Lil Tjay’s Show Rate Has Gone Way Up

With the release of his sophomore studio album just two days away, Lil Tjay is making sure that he’s getting paid for the rest of the year. Despite the fact that he’s still only 19-years-old, the teenager has built a huge name for himself in hip-hop, ensuring that he can support his family for the years to come. The Bronx-based rising star continues to be a favorite among the latest class of rappers to break out and he knows that he commands a lot of fan attention, which is why he’s aiming high with his latest price update, revealing that he’s asking for over six-figures to perform.

Lil Tjay was Destined 2 Win. He knows that much and he’s not selling himself short. As he teases the release of his new album, which features the recently-dropped single “Born 2 Be Great”, the young recording artist revealed his updated performance rate, telling his followers that he won’t accept any offers less than $150,000 for a performance.

Throwing racks in his driveway in front of a Rolls-Royce, Lil Tjay emphatically told fans that he makes “150 a show”. People are undecided on that amount for him. While many are saying that he deserves the money, others are theorizing that because of his price, we won’t see too many festivals and promoters booking Lil Tjay this year. We wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up getting that money though– especially after his new album drops this week.

Do you think Lil Tjay’s show rate is on point?

Westside Gunn Delivers New Single “TV BOY”

Rest assured that rumors of Westside Gunn’s retirement have been grossly exaggerated. In fact, the Griselda visionary is on the verge of delivering yet another new project, this time revisiting a long-running series for Hitler Wears Hermes 8. With that one officially on the way, Gunn has come through to drop a pair of new singles off the project, the first of which being the Daringer and Beat Butcha collaboration “TV BOY”

Being that this one was conjured by two of Griselda’s most consistent producers, it’s no surprise that “TV BOY” features the label’s grimy signature sound. Immersed in the warbling instrumental, Gunn lets fly an energetic dose of street lyricism, reflecting on his formative hustling days. “Beware, it’s the MAC squeezer,” he spits, buried in a mass of ad-libs and filthy percussion. “If all else fails, I kept Pyrex for scales / Last place was hell, I’m talkin’ 23 and 1 / Thirty minutes straight starin’ at the cell.”

Check out “TV BOY” now, the first of two new singles from Westside Gunn — the Camouflage Monk-produced “Julia Lang” is also due for release at some point today.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Beware, it’s the MAC squeezer
If all else fails, I kept Pyrex for scales
Last place was hell, I’m talkin’ 23 and 1
Thirty minutes straight starin’ at the cell
I miss my old celly, I wish that ni*ga’d come home
Been locked since the ’80s, never had a cell phone

Lil Tjay Previews New Album With “Born 2 Be Great”

Bronx-based rapper Lil Tjay is releasing his sophomore studio album Destined 2 Win at the end of this week and he’s officially dropped the latest single from it, coming through with “Born 2 Be Great” on all streaming platforms.

The new single comes just days before the release of the 19-year-old’s new album, which follows up 2019’s True 2 Myself. “Born 2 Be Great” unpacks the teenaged rapper’s hardships as he dreamed of a superstar life, explaining that he’s destined for the life that he’s been blessed with. From the millions of dollars in his bank account to the lavish trips that Tjay can take around the world, the rapper truly believes that he was meant to live this way.

In his second verse, Lil Tjay interpolates Drake’s “Work” lyrics and makes them his own, spinning them to make sense with the rest of the song.

Listen to the latest record from Destined 2 Win below and stay tuned for more new music from Lil Tjay on Friday.

Quotable Lyrics:

Sometimes it feel like n***as you love the most be the ones that bring you down
Just speakin’ from experience, ’cause I done been around
I remember sh*t was smooth, we was dreamin’ cap and gowns
Older n***as preached to us the sh*t that we see now
Some of your friends gon’ die, some of your friends gon’ live
Some of ’em go to jail for all the sh*t they did
Every year they solid, every year they straight
I was always solid, solid all the way

Jay Electronica Gives Kanye West Some Major Love

Being that he’s easily one of hip-hop’s most elusive and generally quiet artists by a wide margin, it’s hard not to take notice when Jay Electronica actually uses his social media pages. Today, the Grammy-nominated lyricist used his platform to share some kind words of encouragement to his former collaborator Kanye West, who is in the midst of undergoing a widely publicized divorce from Kim Kardashian.

“@kanyewest,” begins Electronica, making sure to tag Yeezy for good measure. “From afar, seems like Almighty God is putting His final touches on His Mighty Sword (you). I would imagine the pain is intense. After this though, you unstoppable. Flame on King! and as for the rest of em, my mom would just say “well Son, fuckem.” Citing his late mother, whom he previously celebrated on the emotionally powerful “A.P.I.D.T.A,” it’s abundantly clear that Electronica means exactly what he says.

“@kanyewest, I literally CANT WAIT so see your next Beautiful moves and offerings,” he continues, making it known that he supports and values whatever endeavors the producer slash business mogul opts to pursue. “Thank you for all of the Beautiful ones you’ve given us thus far.” It’s evident that Electronica still holds Kanye West in high esteem, and it’s unclear if this reach-out will ultimately culminate in a Wyoming-centric reunion. After all, Ye’s Donda project is rumored to be in the works,  and it would certainly be interesting to see Jay Electronica contribute in some capacity.

Either way, it’s nice to see Electronica showing support for Kanye during this complicated time. Check out his messages below, and sound off if you’d welcome some new music from Jay Electronica and Kanye West in the near future.

The Weeknd Gave Serious ‘Trilogy’ Vibes On “I Was Never There”

Three years ago on March 30, 2018, The Weeknd surprised fans with his first extended play: the dark and emotional My Dear Melancholy,. The six-track project served as a bit of a sonic reset for Abel’s career, as he ditched the purely pop glam of Starboy to revisit the harrowing soundscapes of his early mixtape output. The result was a striking step forward that was successfully expounded upon in his sensational 2020 album After Hours. Now, in honor of its three year anniversary, the Canadian singer-songwriter recently dropped off the never before seen music video for “Try Me,” but the beloved EP is truly held in high regard for its other hard-hitting cuts, including “Wasted Times,” “Privilege,” and “I Was Never There.”

The latter of those songs, “I Was Never There,” is a perfect example of the combination of the haziness from his early output and the crisp production of his studio albums that My Dear Melancholy is typically praised for. While many fans still debate as to whether the Gesaffelstein-assisted song is about Bella Hadid or Selena Gomez, the heartfelt song is one of the most powerful cuts from The Weeknd’s 2018 EP.

It appears that “I Was Never There” may also be one of The Weeknd’s favorite cuts from My Dear Melancholy, as well, because the XO artist recently a screenshot of himself listening to the soul-bearing tune.

Three years later, what is your favorite cut from My Dear Melancholy,?

Quotable Lyrics

Ooh, now I know what love is, and I know it ain’t you for sure
You’d rather something toxic, so, I poison myself again, again
‘Til I feel nothing in my soul (in my soul)
I’m on the edge of something breaking, I feel my mind is slowly fadin’
If I keep going, I won’t make it

Did 21 Savage Just Accidentally Reveal His Relationship With Mulatto?

It looks like 21 Savage and Mulatto might have been lying about the status of their relationship when they said there was nothing going on between them. After fans speculated that they took a romantic trip together over the winter holidays, the rumored couple denied the headlines and said they were just friends. However, after 21’s questionable post-and-delete was screenshotted this week, the rumors are back on.

Mulatto was previously swooning about her man a few months ago, and fans widdled down her romantic exploits to either 21 Savage, Key Glock, or BRS Kash. The three rappers have denied hooking up with Big Latto, but Savage might have some extra explaining to do after he accidentally posted a picture of the rapper without make-up, going crazy over her look and seemingly exposing their love.

“No makeup,” he said on a posted-and-deleted picture of Mulatto on Instagram Stories. “Dam u fine, it’s only 1 way I can come bout you twin”.

Despite the fact that Savage quickly got rid of the post, the evidence was quickly captured by blog pages across social media. It’sOnSite! shared the picture to their page, which prompted their followers to call out Latto and Savage for allegedly lying about their relationship.

This doesn’t necessarily confirm Mulatto and 21 Savage as a couple but it seems as though their flirtatiousness isn’t coincidental at this point. Do you think they’re an item?

21 Savage Is Executive Producing The Music For The ‘Saw’ Spinoff, ‘Spiral’

Gruesome horror movie imagery has always permeated 21 Savage’s music, so it’s only right that the Slaughter Gang head honcho takes his penchant for making murderous music on his first foray into Hollywood. Variety reports that the UK-born, Atlanta-bred Grammy winner has been tasked with executive producing the music for the upcoming Saw spinoff, Spiral: From The Book Of Saw. 21 also crafted his new single “Spiral” as the film’s theme song, which can be heard throughout the newly released trailer.

The film, which is produced by and stars Chris Rock, also features Samuel L. Jackson, as the two veteran actors portray a father-and-son police duo confronted by a Jigsaw copycat killer. 21 Savage’s ear for ominous beats and mayhem-inspired rhymes seems like the perfect match for the sadistic on-screen action.

However, as ominous as his taste would appear to be from his output, it’s also omnivorous. The lanky rapper has been known to post social media videos singing along to his favorite R&B tunes, as he did during the recent Verzuz show with Ashanti and Keyshia Cole. That versatility could also serve him well in his capacity as the soundtrack’s executive producer, as he could use lighter fare to set up the bigger scares — or completely invert fan-favorites as the trailers for Jordan Peele’s haunting thrillers Us and Candyman (which he produced, not directed) have done in the past.

Watch the trailer for Spiral: From The Book Of Saw above. The film premieres May 14, 2021.

Glastonbury Is Hosting A Big Livestream Concert With Coldplay, Damon Albarn, And Others

It was announced at the top of 2021 that Glastonbury will not be hosting a festival this year (for the second year in a row) due to the pandemic. So, while thousands of people won’t be taking to the festival grounds this summer, they can enjoy a newly announced livestream concert that organizers are hosting.

“Live At Worthy Farm” is a ticketed livestream event that is set for May 22. As the name suggests, the show will take place at Worthy Farm and will feature Coldplay, Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn, Haim, Idles, Wolf Alice, Jorja Smith, Kano, Michael Kiwanuka, DJ Honey Dijon, and other currently unannounced performers.

This news shouldn’t surprise fans who have been following Glastonbury’s goings-on in recent months. In January, festival founder Michael Eavis said he wanted to do something to mark the festival’s anniversary: I would like to do something smaller somewhere around the anniversary date of when we started, which was the 18th of September 1970. I would like to consider possibly doing something around that time.” In December, Emily Eavis also noted, “We’re actually looking into the possibility of streaming some things from here if we can’t run the full show next year. We really want to get busy with planning some gigs — even if they’re to be streamed!”
