Mick Jenkins & Kaytranada Reunite For “Designer Frames”

The last we heard from Mick Jenkins, specifically in a concentrated dose, was upon the release of early 2020 gem The Circus. Though originally meant to be the prelude to a deeper conceptual narrative, Mick opted to let his project breathe, delaying the follow-up effort indefinitely. Today, the elite lyricist has decided to drop off a new loosie, reuniting with his longtime collaborator (and now Grammy-winning producer) Kaytranada for “Designer Frames.”

Released alongside a promise that his new album is “on the way,” Mick’s new release is a welcome reminder of how effortlessly he shines behind the mic. “I could give a fuck being Frank, I be laughing like I’m off the novocaine,” he spits, over Kaytra’s percussive arrangement. “Hold the weight of the team, I might have to do like Kappa, grab a cane / all the pain we ascertain from chocolate rain and acid rain.” When it comes to vocabulary and sheer scope of references, few can stand with Mick Jenkins in that department

Check out “Designer Frames” now, and keep a watchful eye for updates on Mick Jenkins’ third studio album as they surface.

Cardi B Responds To Candace Owens’ Suggesting ‘WAP’ Is Ruining American Society

The biggest night in music took place over the weekend, of course not without a fair share of memorable moments. Beyoncé broke an all-time Grammys record by becoming the most decorated woman in the award show’s history after winning her 28th award. Cardi B and Megan thee Stallion laid down an unforgettable performance of their hit “WAP,” which has been accused of “glamorizing prostitution and stripping.” Chiming in on the discussion, political commentator Candance Owens further insinuated the sexually charged song is destroying America.

The conservative author went on Fox News to criticize Cardi and Megan’s racy Grammy performance, warning that the Bronx-bred artist’s song could bring an end to society as we know it. “You have the kids learning about critical race theory. They’re learning that they should aspire to be people like Cardi B. You see that fundamentally we are seeing the destruction of American values and American principles,” Owens said to Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Monday (March 15).

She continued, “It’s terrifying. I think parents should be terrified that this is the direction our society is heading towards. And again, we are weakening America… This is a weakening of American society. It feels like we are looking at corrosion; like we are about to see the end of an empire.”

Never one to shy away from facing her toughest critics directly on social media, Cardi didn’t seem too fazed by Owens’ criticism. “Yaaaayyyyyyy. WE MADE FOX NEWS GUYS!!! Wap wap wap,” wrote the 28-year-old.

Of course, this is not the first time the song’s faced criticism either. Check out the full ‘WAP’ performance below if you didn’t get a chance to see it this weekend.

Bobby Shmurda Finds His Knicks Cap After 7 Years

New York rapper Bobby Shmurda has been keeping his fans updated ever since he was released from prison this year, marking a celebratory moment in the hip-hop world. Heralded as a real one for taking extra time on his own sentence to have Rowdy Rebel’s sentence lightened, Bobby’s return home has been sweet for supporters of the GS9 crew to keep track of.

Known for his hit songs “Hot N***a” and “Bobby B*tch”, Bobby Shmurda is arguably most famous for the viral music video that accompanied the former record. The low-budget video, which was filmed in the streets of New York City, features one famous scene where Bobby tosses his New York Knicks cap up in the air, never catching it before it disappears from the frame altogether. For the entire length of his sentence, Bobby’s fans have joked about the whereabouts of the hat, and finally, it has made a return.

Likely a little dustier seven years later, Bobby is back with his classic Knicks cap, showing it off on Instagram Live. “They don’t wanna see that! The hat is back,” exclaimed the rapper’s friends as he walked out with it. “They know where we from,” yelled Bobby repeatedly in the video.

After so many jokes were made at the hat’s expense, it’s nice to see that, 1. Bobby still owns the hat and, 2. it’s still in pretty good condition!

How much do you think this hat would go for if he ever sold it?

Kodak Black Says Megan Thee Stallion Made A Career Off Stealing From Him

Kodak Black is tired of waiting for people to acknowledge his influence on the rap game. The 23-year-old Florida rapper wants his credit and he wants it now. Lately, he’s been embroiled in a short-lived internet feud with buzzing Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty, re-focusing and aiming his ire at Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion and saying that she capitalized off jacking one of his catchphrases.

For months, Kodak Black has been claiming that Megan’s “drive the boat” phrase originates from him, which fans have largely agreed with. When asked about the term on national television though, Megan refused to give credit to Kodak, saying that she came up with the sentence herself. “I Really Wanna Go Bad On Lil One but I’m Keepin This Sh*t Pretty #LetMeDriveTheBoat,” he wrote a year ago while he was still incarcerated. After Megan went an entire year without showing love to him, Yak is frustrated and he’s coming for the superstar on Twitter, letting off some steam on Tuesday night.

“‘You Know What, Ima Pull Up On Jit Wit Bout 200 Bands Or Sumn Since I Raned Off Wit Da Man Quote Got Rich Off It & Ain’t Mention Em Nan Time,'” wrote Kodak on Twitter, seemingly suggesting what Megan should have done after Yak caught on. “Who Shoulda Said Dat Twitter?”

He went on, saying that Megan made her entire career off the phrase. “I’m Lit I Ain’t Old & Washed Up Somewhere Hating On Young N***as I’m Jus Over Here Counting This Money But Still Pointing Dat Sh*t Out Y’all B On D*ck!!! Make a whole career off of taking one Lil piece of my sh*t & I B Coming For My Money. Baby ain’t have to go out her way to give my credit but the opportunity came to her instead when they asked that question on tv smh and they be on some Black Lives Matter sh*t y’all don’t even be fa this sh*t fr. Especially Since He Just Getting Outta Prison And Black Lives Matter So Let Me Pay A Lil Homage To Dude Throw It Back On Em Or Sumn. Or You Know What Ima Just Let Him Drive My Boat & Call It Even.”

Well, Kodak has named his price. Either he gets a $200,000 bag for supposedly kicking off Megan’s career (in his opinion) or he gets a ride on the boat with her…

What do you make of this feud?

In the visual to “I Stand On That,” we find social distancing at its finest. The single is included on E-40’s joint album with Too $hort, Ain’t Gone Do It/Terms & Conditions, and it is a track that fans praised as one of the standouts with features from Joyner Lucas and T.I. All three of the rappers spit rapid-fire bars that perfectly pair with the Traxamillion production and flex that energy in the recently released visual.

In the clip, Joyner, E-40, and T.I. are each featured in their own room in a warehouse-like setting where they pose with classic cars and video vixens. Ain’t Gone Do It/Terms and Conditions was released just ahead of E-40 and Too $hort’s Verzuzappearance last year and was praised by fans. The 20-track project hosted features from artists like Freddie Gibbs, Brent Faiyaz, G-Eazy, Blxst, and Drakeo The Ruler. “I Stand On That” was chosen by listeners as a favorite, so check out the 40, Lucas, and Tip collaboration above.
