Nicki Minaj Wishes Happy Birthday To Her Late Father: “Miss U So Much”

Nicki Minaj recently spoke out about her father Robert Maraj’s death for the first time. Maraj passed away in February after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Long Island. The Young Money emcee finally opened up about the loss in an open letter about what a painful loss his passing was. “Tho I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life,” she wrote.

She continued, “I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed.” The South Jamaica, Queens rapper took time out on Sunday (May 16) to share warm words in honor of her father’s birthday.

Just days after penning the open letter, Nicki is continuing to speak publically about the loss to honor Maraj on his birthday. “Happy Birthday Daddy. Miss u so much. So much. So so much. Rest In Peace. Oh my God,” wrote the acclaimed rapper in the caption of the post. She added a photo of her smiling father in a “Legends Never Die” tee to deliver the message.

In February, shortly after the fatal accident, Nassau County Police revealed that Charles Polevich, 71, of Guam, had turned himself over to police. Polevich also has a home on Long Island and has no prior criminal record before the incident. He was ultimately charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident with a fatality and tampering with evidence.

He faced arraignment in February in connection with the hit and run. Elsewhere for Nicki, she recently elaborated on her much-needed break from the music industry. “Very much needed that zen for important bonding time [with] my son, getting back fluid [with] writing & [something] else I don’t want to discuss yet. If u know u know,” she spoke of her time off.

It seems like she may be ready to step back into music now, however.

Air Jordan 1 Low Receives Suede & Corduroy Offering: Photos

When it comes to summer-ready shoes, the Air Jordan 1 Low has always been among some of the best. Fans are always eager to cop this model thanks to the fact that it is a more cost-effective and accessible version of the Air Jordan 1 High OG. Every single year, there are dozens of colorways that are introduced to the market and for the most part, they all get bought up fairly quickly. It’s a shoe that will always have a place in the sneaker world, and Jumpman never seems to disappoint with their offerings.

One of the latest colorways to be shown off is this interesting new suede and corduroy model that will impress all of you premium material aficionados out there. As you can see, there is some creamy white corduroy on the base of the shoe, all while tan suede overlays are found throughout. We even have some pops of red to help bring about some contrast.

Overall, this is a dope colorway although it will be a women’s exclusive, which means only those with small feet can cop. Pairs should be hitting stores soon, so keep your eyes out at your local retailer.

Nicki Minaj Says Musical Hiatus & Motherhood Were Good For Her Mental Health

As many people familiar with Nicki Minaj’s career can recall, she announced her retirement from the music industry back in 2019. While she did not completely fade away from the rap game, stepping out every once and a while to lay down a guest feature, her last full-length solo project was 2018’s Queen.

In her time away from the spotlight, she emphasized her desires to be a family with her son affectionately known as Papa Bear, and her husband Kenneth Perry. In a chat with fans on social media following the servicing of her Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape to streaming services, the new mom revealed how taking a brief break from social media worked wonders for her mental health.

She’s long been vocal about the pressures of fame and the limelight. During a Q&A session on Twitter, the 38-year-old rap star was asked if she benefitted from the small hiatus she’s taken from music since her last album. She subsequently admitted that she’s been in a much better mental state since giving birth to her little one back in September.

“Great question. Yes. It was soooo needed for me. I appreciate u guys so much for waiting,’ she confessed. “But yea, very much needed that zen for important bonding time [with] my son, getting back fluid [with] writing & [something] else I don’t want to discuss yet. If u know u know,” continued Nicki, edited for clarity.

Nicki welcomed her first child with Petty on September 30th in Los Angeles last year. Elsewhere in the Q&A, she noted that her son “hated rap music when he was in my tummy,” and she played Enya during the course of her pregnancy.

“He’d kick rlly hard. But he was bopping a lil bit to #SeeingGreen b4 I released it,’ explained Nicki. ‘While pregnant I could only play him soothing music like Enya/classical, etc. he’d be more relaxed. It’s why i couldn’t rlly complete my album preggers.”

She and Young Money labelmate and good friend Drake recently connected on Instagram live ahead of the release of “Seeing Green,” a new offering on Nicki’s re-released 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty.

LeBron James Speaks On Lakers Potentially Going To The Play-in Round

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are in a predicament right now. At the start of the season, it seemed like they would be locks to end up top three in the Western Conference. For much of the season, it seemed like that was going to play out as planned, however, injuries got the better of the team, and now, the Lakers are fighting for sixth place in the West. In a normal year, 7th would be good enough for the playoffs, although with the play-in system, the Lakers are still in jeopardy of missing out on the postseason.

In order to avoid the play-in round, the Lakers need to beat the New Orleans Pelicans tonight, while the Portland Trail Blazers have to lose to the Denver Nuggets. Based on these matchups, it seems fairly likely that the Lakers can edge their way to a sixth-seed performance. Despite all of this, LeBron does not seem to care where the Lakers end up.

“Let the chips fall where they may. We’re ready to go,” LeBron said on the matter. While this is definitely a great sentiment to have, there is no denying that any team in the Lakers position would rather just avoid the play-in altogether.

If the Lakers end up in seventh, they will have to play the Golden State Warriors, and if they lose, they will play the San Antonio Spurs or Memphis Grizzlies in what would prove to be a do-or-die game. Needless to say, tonight is very important for this Lakers team.

Jorja Smith & T-Pain Hold Down Our “R&B Season” Playlist

Another week, another R&B Season playlist update with a few necessary recent releases from the genre’s brightest stars. To kick things off, Jorja Smith emerged with her latest body of work, Be Right Back. The UK songstress’s new project serves as her follow-up to her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. Be Right Back largely finds Jorja shining on a solo tip. “Home,” produced by Ed Thomas,” was an immediate highlight that you’re guaranteed to have on repeat for the weeks to come.

Following a rather off Instagram Live session with Mark Zuckenberg regarding his request inbox, T-Pain unveiled a brand new single for the fans with some assistance from Kehlani. The record flips his classic record “Buy U A Drank” with an updated banger for 2021. There’s no doubt that this collaboration with Kehlani and T-Pain will live on throughout this summer. The song was co-produced by DJ Montay and T-Pain. Hopefully, it’s a sign that Pain got some more heat in the stash for the summer.

Other additions on this week’s R&B Season playlist include up-and-comer Jenevieve who dropped off her latest single, “Eternal” this week. Additionally, we have Mereba’s latest single, “Rider.”
