Njomza Connects With Ari Lennox On “Tidal Wave”

Njomza first announced her LIMBO EP back in May, which coincided with the release of its Russ-assisted lead single “winter in atlanta.” She followed up with the Skrillex-produced track “over and done” before finally unleashing the project on Friday (June 25). The singer, whose name translates to ‘something new that has just been created,’ explains, “I feel like the world has been in limbo with everything that has been going on. So I think that’s just rubbed off on me. Then, I am in a headspace right now where I feel like I’m really coming into myself.”

“tidal wave” featuring Ari Lennox is the tape’s seventh track and captures venerable late-night lingering thoughts about a dissolved relationship. The songstress explained to NYLON the inspiration for the silky track came from “the back and forth emotions after leaving a relationship (and a little red wine…).”

As for how the collab with Lennox came to be, she explained to Tidal, “Well, Ari is a really good friend of mine. I really love her so much. She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve met. So that happened organically. I was actually at Dreamville. They were in the studio doing Revenge of the Dreamers. They were working on that album, and I went to work with everybody out there. Me and Ari got in one of the studios and did “Tidal Wave.”

To complement the EP, Njomza also unleashed a compelling visual to “Tidal Wave.” Check it out below and of course, let us know what you think down in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics:

It’s quiet, I hear a clap
I can tеll you’re searching for a ride, flex
I’ve been waiting
Feeling myself fading
All I do is think of you (You, you)
Save me

Derek Chauvin Sentenced To 22.5 Years In Prison For Murder Of George Floyd

Former Minneapolis police offer Derek Chauvin will be serving the next 22.5 years behind bars for his role in the death of George Floyd. Chauvin has spent the last two months in solitary confinement after a jury convicted him of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter back in April. Today, June 25, he sat in Hennepin County court and judge Peter Cahill handed down his 270-month prison sentence.

Chauvin’s defense attorney, Eric Nelson, argued that the former officer should instead receive probation and time served, or at least a sentence less than what the law guides. However, the judge didn’t see it that way, and ultimately sentenced him to the 22.5 years, of which 199 days are already served. The maximum in which Derek could’ve been sentenced by law was 30 years.

During the trial today, George’s daughter, Gianna, delivered the first victim impact statement. “I ask about him all the time,” his daughter said in an emotional clip. Someone in the video asked Gianna what she would tell her father if she could see him again. “It would be I miss you and I love you” she added. Later, George’s nephew, Brandon Williams, spoke in court, calling his uncle’s death “truly unimaginable.” He stated, “Chauvin killed George, not only did he kill George, but he also displayed a total lack of consideration for human life as he did so. You saw it. I saw it. And millions of people across the country and the globe witnessed the act of hate.”

Minnesota Assistant Attorney General Matthew Frank, who spoke at Derek Chauvin’s sentencing, argued that Chauvin abused the power he had as a police officer on the day he killed George Floyd. “This case wasn’t about police officers, all police officers. It wasn’t about policing. This case was about Derek Chauvin disregarding all that training he received and assaulting Mr. Floyd until he suffocated to death,” he said.

Elsewhere during the sentencing, Derek’s mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, spoke publicly for the first time, saying her son is “a good man” and someone who “always dedicated his life and time to the police department.” “Even on his days off, he would call to see if they needed help,” she said.

Lastly, Derek Chauvin himself spoke briefly to the court, giving his condolences to the Floyd family. “I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family,” Chauvin said. “There’s going to be some other information in the future that would be of interest and I hope things will give you some peace of mind.”

Over the last couple of years, Jason Kidd has served as the assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. Kidd has mostly been involved with the team’s offense and for a few years, it seemed like he was positioning himself to become the next head coach of the team. However, this past year, numerous opportunities have been presented to him and there are various players who have been hoping for him to become their coach.

Today, Kidd officially got upgraded to a head coaching role although this time around, he will be heading to Dallas to coach Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. This is a big move for Kidd and he is already receiving support from his former players. For instance, LeBron James took to Twitter today and congratulated Kidd on the move although he noted that he is certainly going to miss the NBA legend in Los Angeles.

“Damn I hate to lose JKidd man but damn I’m happy for him at the same time! Good luck Kidd!” LeBron wrote. 6ix9ine’s Estranged Dad Is Homeless & Wants His Son To Help

Tekashi 6ix9ine, née Daniel Hernandez, is easily one of the most polarizing figures in rap history. The Brooklyn-bred rapper was arrested back in 2018 on federal R.I.C.O. charges, subsequently striking a deal with prosecutors that landed him a mere two years in prison in exchange for testifying against fellow Nine Trey gang members.

The disgraced rapper’s father notably made an appearance at the rapper’s sentencing in December of 2019 after he pleaded guilty to crimes related to his involvement with the aforementioned gang. While in court, Hernandez, who shares the same name as his son, asked to speak on 6ix9ine’s behalf but was denied. Now, the “GOOBA” artist’s estranged father is admitting he’s homeless and upset with his son for not reaching out with financial assistance.

Hernandez revealed in a video obtained by Page Six on Friday (June 25) that he has been living in a homeless shelter for two years despite Tekashi’s successful music career. “Because I don’t have an apartment, he doesn’t know that I’m in the shelter,” Hernandez, 60, said. “Now he’s going to know I’ve been here for, what, two years already?”

Hernandez furthers that his son, who he’s been estranged from now for over a decade, hasn’t offered any money to him. “You think he’d come hook me up with something,” he said. “He’s been giving money to other people. … He gives money to everybody. ‘Here, here, here.’”

As mentioned, Hernandez briefly made an appearance at 6ix9ine’s sentencing for his involvement with the Nine Trey Gang. “I took one glance — I see my biological father. I haven’t seen him since the third grade,” said Tekashi addressing the court before receiving his sentence. “I don’t even know if this is a f–kin’ joke, everything I go through.”

The rapper has admitted before that he did not meet his biological father until he was 9. He previously explained that his mother, Natividad Perez-Hernandez, kicked him out the house after allegedly catching him shooting up heroin in the bathroom.

Perhaps 6ix9ine will put his internet trolling on the backburner to help his father out.

Kevin Durant Goes After Jackie MacMullan Over Recent Nets Comments

Kevin Durant has been active on Twitter as of late in light of the Brooklyn Nets’ elimination from the NBA Playoffs. Durant has a lot more free time to engage with whatever the media is saying, and over the last couple of days, he has certainly let his presence be known. Yesterday, he went after the likes of Scottie Pippen, and today, Durant is throwing shots at ESPN reporter Jackie MacMullan.

MacMullan recently went on Bill Simmons’ podcast and explained that Durant told her that he wants to win at least three titles in Brooklyn. Well, Durant saw this report and immediately refuted it as he took to Twitter claiming that he never had a conversation like that with MacMullan. In fact, he even got on her case for pretending as though the two are friends.

“Once again, I don’t even talk like this…plus I don’t have a relationship with Jackie for us to have in depth conversations about my intentions as a basketball player. I get she plays an opinion based sport but she framed this like we are friends. We are not,” he wrote.

Durant has proven to be quite sensitive when it comes to matters involving the media, and it doesn’t seem like he will be changing that behavior, anytime soon. As for MacMullan, she has yet to reply to Durant’s tweet.
