Tory Lanez Doesn’t Believe In Cancel Culture & Neither Does T.I.

Tory Lanez has been doing this best to defy the effects of cancel culture. Following the 2020 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, he’s faced backlash after the Houston rapper accused him of being the triggerman. He’s gone on to deny it, even putting it in a few of his songs. However, the rapper has continued to carry out his rapper duties without fearing the impact that those allegations will have on him when it comes to public perception.

Clearly, there are enough people out there who are still listening to Tory Lanez’s music. He has a dedicated following who continues to run up the streams every time he drops. While the industry at large has shunned him, it looks like he’s still making a pretty penny off of his releases.

On Sunday, the rapper made a controversial appearance at Rolling Loud during DaBaby’s set which took place immediately after Megan hit the stage. Though it was DaBaby who earned a significant amount of backlash for that, and misinformed and homophobic comments he made on stage, Tory Lanez appears to have come to a conclusion about cancel culture.

“Cancel culture doesn’t exist… it’s just a small group of n***a on TWITTER…. tweeting at the same time,” he wrote, adding, “Bunch a UGLY MF’s too.”

In a separate tweet, he addressed selective outrage on social media. “U can’t stand for something… and be selective on the times you stand for it,” he added.

T.I., who’s been facing his own allegations of abuse, slid in the comment section of TheShadeRoom’s post with a bullseye emoji.

Conway Gives Westside Gunn Some Griselda Birthday Love

There are some who foolishly questioned whether or not the Griselda movement was solid, and it didn’t take long before rumors of the group’s demise began circulating. Yet those who truly rock with the Buffalo trifecta knew that the loyalty was never in doubt, and Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Benny The Butcher continue to keep it moving to this day.

Today marks an important day in Griselda history, as the group’s visionary orchestrator Westside Gunn officially turns thirty-nine years old. In honor of the milestone, his brother Conway took a moment to share a few heartfelt words, taking to Twitter to spread some love GXFR style.

“Happy birthday to my brother, my twin, my heart, the legend @westsidegunn,” writes Machine. “Love Gz.” For those eager to hear the pair collaborate on wax again, it seems that you might not have to wait much longer. Conway recently unveiled the tracklist to his upcoming album God Don’t Make Mistakes, and both Westside Gunn and Benny The Butcher are slated to appear on the Daringer-produced “John Woo Flick.”

We’d like to echo the sentiment and wish Westside Gunn an incredible birthday; he’s truly been instrumental in bringing new energy to hip-hop culture, and the foundation he has laid throughout his career will likely be followed for years to come. Happy birthday to the man with the best ad-libs in the game!

Parkland Survivor Says Dad Turned To QAnon, Believes School Shooting Is A Hoax

One of the survivors of the 2018 Parkland shooting says that his father has been buying into the conspiracy theories that he, along with his classmates, are “paid pawns” who faked the school shooting that claimed 17 lives, per VICE News. The 18-year-old graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, who goes by Bill in the article, is part of the final class of survivors but he explained that his father’s recent discovery of QAnon has led him down a dark path.

“It started a couple months into the pandemic with the whole anti-lockdown protests,” Bill told VICE. “His feelings were so strong it turned into facts for him. So if he didn’t like having to wear masks it wouldn’t matter what doctors or scientists said. Anything that contradicted his feelings was wrong. So he turned to the internet to find like-minded people which led him to QAnon.”

Bill explained that his dad saw the video of Georgia Rep. Marjory Taylor Greene, famed for pushing QAnon conspiracies, harassing a Parkland survivor which further fueled Bill’s father into thinking it’s a hoax.

“From there it snowballed into what he is today, believing that if the government is able to overthrow an election, then everything else is probably a lie too,” Bill added.

In a Reddit post shared last week, Bill detailed the type of abuse he has to endure from his father over these conspiracies. “He’ll say stuff like this straight to my face whenever he’s drinking: ‘You’re a real piece of work to be able to sit here and act like nothing ever happened if it wasn’t a hoax. Shame on you for being part of it and putting your family through it too,” he wrote in the post.

R. Kelly’s Attorneys Say New Abuse Claims Are An Attempt To Smear Singer’s Reputation

R. Kelly’s legal case in Chicago is only getting worse. Last week, it was reported that the singer was facing new allegations in his federal sex trafficking case. The bombshell documents alleged that Kelly had abused even more minors including a 17-year-old male who he allegedly met at McDonald’s — a place Kelly’s known for frequenting during his downtime.

The new allegations claim that Kelly lured the male minor into his home under the impression that he could help uplift his music career. The new documents go on to allege that the 17-year-old then introduced Kelly to another male minor who was also sexually abused. The court documents also list new women who were allegedly forced to have sex with the two boys while Kelly filmed.

Though Kelly’s due back in court next month in New York, his attorney has since fired back at the prosecutors’ new documents. Kelly’s attorney, Nicole Blank Becker, said that the prosecutors are merely carrying out a smear campaign against her client.

“This is nothing more than a veiled effort to pile on to further shape the public’s perception in this case ignoring that Mr. Kelly is presumed innocent until proven otherwise,” Becker told TMZ, adding that the singer’s legal team with “vigorously oppose” the evidence being presented in court. “As the trial nears were are looking forward to the truth prevailing,” Becker concluded.

Nicki Minaj Reacts To “Beam Me Up Scotty” Customized Bratz Doll

Nicki Minaj stormed through this year to celebrate her breakout mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty. A project that didn’t offer the pristine and infectious pop sounds that would dominate the carts but rather highlighted just how good of a f*cking rapper Nicki Minaj is. The re-release of Beam Me Up Scotty finally found the mixtape on streaming services for the first time and earned Nicki another top 10 charting project on the Billboard 200.

From its iconic cover to cult classics like “Itty Bitty Piggy,” Nicki Minaj beloved mixtape has maintained in steady rotation since hitting streaming services, despite being over 10-years-old. And while it did cement the Barbz status in pop culture, it looks like Barbie’s rival doll brand has now offered their own tribute to Nicki. Today, Nicki took to her Instagram page where she revealed Bratz Doll’s customized recreation of the Beam Me Up Scotty cover on her Story, writing, “Thank you @bratz.”

The re-release of Nicki Minaj’s Beam Me Up Scotty included four new songs. Drake and Lil Wayne make an appearance on “Seeing Green,” while she also paid homage to Jay-Z on the record, “Fractions.” The project also included her remix to Skillibeng’s “Crocodile Teeth.”

Dua Lipa Addresses DaBaby’s Homophobic Comments

Dua Lipa has a hit record with DaBaby right now, “Levitating” to the top of the charts with their summer-ready collaboration. The track has gone viral on social media and it remains a fan favorite from Dua’s catalog, but the pop star is taking steps away from the rapper after he made vile homophobic comments at Rolling Loud this weekend.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” said DaBaby during his concert. “Ladies, if your pussy smell like water, put your cellphone light in the air. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

Many people have vocalized how upset they are about his words, which prompted DaBaby to deliver an explanation of sorts. During his “apology” video, the rapper said that he has lots of gay fans but his supporters aren’t the “nasty” gays with AIDS and HIV

Dua Lipa’s music is beloved by members of the LGBTQ+ community and her fans have called for her to remove DaBaby from the “Levitating” remix. While she hasn’t decided whether she will go to that length yet, she has issued a statement about his comments.

“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments,” wrote Dua on Instagram Stories. “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGTBQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

What do you think of Dua Lipa’s response?

Singer/Songwriter Sofia Valdés On What Travel Means To Her

A great adventure story? We’re sorry, but it just never begins on your couch. Yet, that’s where most of us have been stuck for more than a year, putting plans on hold and leaving us to dream about safe and smart travel when normal comes back around. Maybe that means reconnecting with family and friends or touching down in locales in the US and abroad that populate your personal bucket list and feed your sense of adventure.

For singer/songwriter Sofia Valdés, it’s those things and a chance to stoke creativity through the achingly missed act of meeting people as you explore their home cities and countries learning just a little bit about them in the process of being inspired. As Valdés says in the first episode of our new Creator Connections video series (made in partnership with Delta Air Lines), “There’s something magical about being able to find a home in people, so wherever you are, you feel at home.”

That’s the power of travel and exploration, essentially — a charge that comes from new experiences, new cultures, new destinations, new people, and a new perspective that promotes a larger, more informed view of the world. Even if you’re going somewhere familiar or just looking to relax, it’s going to change you for the better. Because it’s still a connection (to people, places, and things), and it’s what we’ve all been missing most.

Check out Sofia’s story (above) to learn more about how she finds a home and a community wherever she travels and how Delta is helping her reconnect with her career and musical life in this episode of Creator Connections.

The US Government Has Sold The Wu-Tang Clan Album Seized From Martin Shkreli

The mythic Wu-Tang Clan album once purchased for an exorbitant sum by “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli has finally been sold after being seized by the US government. According to the Justice Department, the sole copy of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin was sold off to pay off the $7.4 million forfeiture judgment against Shkreli for his 2018 conviction on securities fraud. A confidentiality provision in the sale contract protects information about the buyer and price.

The album first made waves in 2014 when it was announced that only one copy of the album would be auctioned off, incensing group members like Method Man. The album was purchased by Shkreli in 2015 with the caveat that it couldn’t be commercially exploited for nearly 100 years. When Shkreli was convicted in 2018 for SEC violations, he played the album while talking about it and tried to sell it on eBay to avoid forfeiting it as part of his sentence. When he was sentenced to seven years in prison, the government appropriated the project for the purpose of auctioning it off to pay his debts.

Of course, just because only one copy of the album exists and can’t be monetized for 100 years, doesn’t mean RZA won’t try to make some money off it anyway. In August 2020, the Wu-Tang leader reportedly began production on a film about the album’s convoluted existence for Netflix.
