D Smoke Delivers The Soulful “Sade” For Spotify Singles

Following Chika’s cover of Billie Eilish’s “My Future,” Spotify Singles continues its celebration of the current class of Best New Artist Grammy nominees with D Smoke. The Black Habits artist and renowned winner of the first season of Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow is nominated for Best New Artist and Best Rap Album at the upcoming 63rd annual Grammy awards, and leading up to the ceremony, D Smoke has linked up with Spotify to give fans two exclusive new singles, “Sade” and a remix of Black Habits standout “Gaspar Yanga.”

“Sade” finds D Smoke paying homage to the legendary British singer-songwriter Sade Adu while reveling in nostalgia. The two-and-a-half-minute track is an original track by D Smoke that interpolates Sade’s “The Sweetest Taboo” and further displays the Inglewood artist’s ear for robust musical arrangements.

Touching on the opportunity to release two singles for Spotify Singles’ Best New Artist celebration, D Smoke says, “I’m proud to put out two songs on the same day that represent both sides of me. ‘Gaspar Yanga (Remix)’ with its warrior-chant sound and aggressive language, pays homage to the Afro- Latino liberator by the same name, who successfully led a revolution, while ‘Sade’ speaks to the complexities of love and artistry. These songs together serve as a 1-2 punch from the heart of Inglewood.”

Give D Smoke’s new single “Sade” a listen on Spotify, and let us know what you think about the Inglewood artist’s special release.

Quotable Lyrics

Wish faith would have it otherwise.
You stole my heart, is it a crime?
I still listen to all your sh*t,
but it’s never good as the first time

Soulja Boy Disparages Randy Orton For Wearing “Leather Thongs”

It’s honestly one of the most unexpected beefs of 2021, yet the war of words between Big Draco and The Viper continues nevertheless. Like many beefs these days, Soulja Boy and Randy Orton’s public disparaging of each another began with one tweet, in which Soulja Boy labeled the rap game “faker than WWE.” Naturally, some WWE stars like the 14-time world champion Randy Orton caught wind of the Soulja World rapper’s tweet and proceeded to call him out on Twitter.

Now, weeks later, the tension between Soulja Boy and Randy Orton doesn’t look like it’s going to simmer down anytime soon, as watchful fans have shared snippets from one of Soulja Boy’s live streams, in which the rapper continues to taunt and belittle the WWE star with an onslaught of shots. At the start of the video, Big Draco confirms that his problem isn’t with everyone in the WWE. After giving props to The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and John Cena, he proceeds to deem Randy Orton a “b*tch a** n*gga” while directly responding to Orton’s initial clap back at the “ZaZa” rapper.

“This n*gga talkin’ about baby mamas. I ain’t got no kids, n*gga! The f*ck is you talkin’ about, stupid a** boy?” Soulja Boy says before claiming that Orton took his WWE tweet way out of context. “You know what the f*ck I meant, n*gga. The WWE is fake. You blew that sh*t all out of context.”

“I’ll come to the WWE and smack the sh*t out of you,” the rapper continues. “I’ve made millions and millions of dollars. I don’t even know you, n*gga! Randy organ — n*gga, f*ck outta here.”

In typical Big Draco fashion, however, the rapper doesn’t stop there, and he continues to roasting the wrestling champion, specifically regarding Orton’s go-to costume, saying, “I can’t wrestle with a n*gga that wears leather thongs!”

“N*gga wanna yell at me in his underwear,” Soulja Boy says, mocking Randy Orton. “‘SOLDIER, COME HERE!’ N*gga? Bow! Get yo stupid a**!”

Is this a W for Big Draco or is he simply digging a deeper whole for himself at this point?

Cardi B Clarifies Kodak Black’s Credit On “Bodak Yellow”: “We Both Getting Rich”

Cardi B’s breakout hit single “Bodak Yellow” has officially been certified diamond, making her the first solo woman in rap to achieve such a feat. The tremendous accomplishment has been celebrated by a number of forces within the music industry, including Kodak Black, a man who strongly influenced the single’s flows and title. The track interpolates Kodak’s flow in “No Flockin”.

While Cardi has always given Kodak the credit he deserves for inspiring her diamond-certified single, the star was forced to clear some things up on Twitter when a fan checked her, asking why Kodak wasn’t getting any money from the song.

“He got credit on the song,” she clarified on Twitter. “WE both getting rich with the song till we die.. The song is called Bodak Yellow for a reason. You hoes get on this app saying the dumbest sh*t.” The post was shared on DJ Akademiks’ popular blog page on Instagram, where Kodak Black dropped a “like”. The original tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of a HotNewHipHop article from a couple of years ago, in which Kodak praised the superstar rapper. “That’s my twin,” he said in January 2019, suggesting that if Cardi wins, he also wins.

Cardi B also addressed her relationship with “WAP” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion in a recent interview, explaining that she was “too shy” to contact the rapper for nearly a full year.

Congratulations to Cardi B on going diamond. And congratulations to Kodak too for being credited on a diamond single!

Gillie Da Kid Recalls How Dissing Lil Wayne Derailed His “Gangsta Grillz” Tape

Gillie Da Kid and Wallo have been holding it down with Million Dollaz Worth Of Game, easily one of the most entertaining hip-hop podcasts right now. And sometimes, it can even be educational, as it was following the appearance of DJ Drama. As it happens, Gillie and Drama were originally supposed to do a Gangsta Grillz tape, only to have it completely derailed by a series of unfortunate events — events that may or may not have been influenced by Lil Wayne.

In the early moments of the podcast, the conversation shifts to Lil Wayne and Gillie Da Kid’s early millennium feud, which found Gillie going at his former Cash Money affiliate on Wayne’s own “Cannon” instrumental. Gillie explains how at the time, Drama had reached out to do a Gangsta Grillz mixtape with him, an offer that Da Kid was eager to accept. Upon sending him the music, however, a slight issue occurred.

“I said ‘Drama, Wayne just put out some shit dissing me,’ and I’m about to drop this bomb on him,'” explains Gillie. “I didn’t send that to Drama, cause I don’t want to put you in the middle of that cause I know you and Wayne are all good. Drama said what every DJ is supposed to say: ‘nah man, I don’t care about that shit. I’m a DJ, I ain’t got nothing to do with it. Put that shit out, we can put that on the tape.'” Drama chuckles: “it was the worst thing I could have said.”

Gillie continues his tale. As Drama proceeded to head overseas with T.I, Gillie seized momentum and unleashed his Weezy response, the “Cannon” freestyle. “I put that shit out, and by the time Drama comes back, I done been on every fuckin’ radio station.” Drama jumps in to offer a counterpoint. “Do you remember what beat it was on?” he asks Wallo. “That’s one thing we didn’t discuss. He’s factual on everything he’s saying, but he went off the ‘Cannon’ beat. The classic, hottest record on Dedication 2. Gil takes the ‘Cannon’ beat, and goes crazy on that shit.”

It was then that Drama knew he messed up. “This shit sounds like I’m really co-signing it,” he muses, prompting a laugh from Gillie. A hilarious moment ensues as Wallo queues up Gillie’s “Cannon” and adds his own “Gangsta Grillz” tags. Gillie takes it back to the tale at hand, recalling how everything changed after Drama came back from overseas. “I got that call,” explains Gillie. “He said ‘we gon’ put Gangsta Grillz out, but we just gonna put a little halt on that muthafucka.”

“I talked to Tunechi,” explains Drama. “It was right after Dedication 2 arguably one of the biggest mixtapes ever. So mind you, he’s on fuckin’ fire. I’m on another level with the tapes, and beyond that, it was the two of us going in. I did say that to Gillie, I ain’t gon’ deny that…I don’t remember if I brought it up to Wayne, but I told him I’m about to do a tape with Gill. This happened, but we just doing a tape with other shit. He said ‘you can do what you want, but me and you will never do a tape again.'”

I’m on Dedication 7 right about now,” laughs Drama. Check out the hilarious and interesting bit of hip-hop history below, courtesy of Gillie Da Kid and Wallo’s Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast.
