Celebrate The 10th Anniversary Of “Blue Slide Park” With “Missed Calls”

Ten years ago, a 19-year-old Mac Miller released his debut albumBlue Slide Park

After a series of mixtapes, including K.I.D.S., I Love Life, Thank You and Best Day Ever, Blue Slide Park was a step towards what Miller would eventually become. While records like “Party on Fifth Ave.” and “Frick Park Market” were reminiscent of his earlier work, it was clear that this young, Pittsburgh rapper wanted more than just internet fame. And in including tracks like “One Last Thing” and “Diamonds & Gold,” on Blue Slide Park, Miller experimented with a more mature sound listeners hadn’t heard before.

“Missed Calls” is the best example of that.

When Miller released Blue Slide Park, he was transforming from the happy-go-lucky kid we saw in his videos, to a bonafide rap star. He debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 (becoming the first independent artist to go #1 with their debut album) and the bright lights of Hollywood came calling. And on “Missed Calls,” he addressed his rise to fame and the people he lost as a result.

Rapping directly to his love interest at the time, Miller assured that he would be fine if she left. With multiple mentions of his partner feeling as if Miller changed, and that he no longer had time for her, the Swimming rapper began touching on the themes that would mark the rest of his career. The balance of love and the quest for success is a delicate one, and despite still being a teenager for the creation and release of “Missed Calls,” the record put Miller’s emotions and thought process surrounding them on full display.

While other records off Blue Slide Park may have been bigger in the moment, “Missed Calls” has remained a fan favorite, and when contextualized against the rest of Miller’s extensive discography, the track is a clear turning point in what would become his illustrious career.

Quotable Lyrics
She tell me, ‘You an asshole, superficial douchebag’
Wishing that you knew that, you could have these shoes back
Of all of this perfume back, necklaces and jewels back
All the shit you buy me”
She said, “I want you back

Fortnite Pulls Travis Scott Emote Following Astroworld Festival Tragedy

An emote on Fortnite’s daily Item Shop featuring licensed music from Travis Scott and Jackboys has been removed days after the fatal crowd surge at Astroworld Festival, Eurogamer reports. The “Out West” emote included a license from Scott and Young Thug’s viral hit off of the JackBoys compilation project that gained popularity with a TikTok challenge. Epic Games removed the emote, along with other items in the same section that contained the emote. Fortnite acknowledged that it was disabled but without much of an explanation.

“It’s known that the ‘Daily’ section of the Item Shop has been disabled. This is intentional and the ‘Daily’ section will return with the next Item Shop refresh,” a tweet from Fortnite support reads. The “Out West” emote was the only Travis Scott item affected, though. No word on if Epic Games actually has any intention of pulling other items based around the rapper from their store in the future.

Travis Scott has had a tight-knit relationship with Fortnite after hosting their first-ever virtual concert in the middle of the pandemic. Travis Scott-themed items were also sold in the store at the time to celebrate the show.

However, the “Out West” emote was reportedly on sale to align with Scott’s Astroworld Festival.

We’ll keep you posted with any more updates on the matter.

Talecia Tucker Knows How To Stay Focused On The Big Picture

It can be daunting to change careers, especially during a pandemic, but Atlanta artist Talecia Tucker is finding her way through that transition just fine.

After high school, the Georgia native went from studying fashion to putting that knowledge to work while establishing Pretty Major, a unisex clothing brand. In 2018, however, a new passion flared, with Tucker taking an interest in photography and the idea that they could pursue that professionally.

Tucker went to grad school to sharpen their skills, but unfortunately, the pandemic got in the way, causing her to leave the program she had enrolled in. Tucker isn’t stuck at a crossroads, though; they’re combining their two primary talents, leaning on the belief that her background in fashion can give her an edge when it comes to photography.

“I like pops of color,” Tucker says, “so even when I’m photographing, I’m thinking about colors and the moods that are associated with color. It’s the same with my fashion.”

Regardless of the medium, for Tucker, it’s all about forging connections while making work that represents their community and intersections of their identity.

“I’m an artist first, and being an artist, I like to connect to other people through my art, whether that be through a lens, through fashion, or through zine-making,” Tucker says. “I think what gives me a unique perspective is wanting that connection and that being a through-line in all my work.”

As any artist will attest to, rejection is part of the process, but Tucker isn’t letting it slow them down.

“I face rejection when I’m seeking funding, whether it be through grants or trying to find investors for my company,” Tucker says. “I’ve also been able to retain my artistic voice through it all. It’s set me back in some ways, but in other ways, it has helped out.”

When facing setbacks, Tucker finds both support and inspiration from her mother.

“My mom is my biggest inspiration,” she admits. “She has gone through a lot more trauma, and she’s still able to be a positive person and to encourage me to go after my dreams. In those moments when I’m feeling down or encounter a setback, I think my mom is my biggest supporter and I don’t want to let her down in those moments.”

When it comes time to emerge from those moments, Tucker finds a way to focus. “I don’t want to discount the fact that it does knock me down,” Tucker says, “but I always think back to the big picture: That one setback, one ‘no,’ one rejection letter, is not going to stop my vision. Even if I get down, I have to pick myself back up and look at the big picture.”

Rosalía And The Weeknd Preview Their Collaboration ‘La Fama’ With A Trailer Featuring Danny Trejo

The Weeknd is in a collaborative mood right now. In October, he linked up with Swedish House Mafia for “Moth To A Flame” and just a few days ago, he and Post Malone dropped “One Right Now.” Now, he has yet another joint effort on the way, and this time, he teaming up with a familiar face in Rosalía, who he recruited for a remix of “Blinding Lights” in late 2020. This time, the two are meeting up on “La Fama,” a new song that’s set for release this Thursday, November 11.

A brief trailer for the song’s video was shared today, and in it, Rosalía sings and dances in a club while The Weeknd looks on and the pair eventually capture each other’s attention. Furthermore, Danny Trejo makes an appearance in the clip, playing the role of an MC of sorts and introducing Rosalía by exclaiming, “So get ready for some heat: La Fama!”

As for the song itself, it has a Latin-influenced beat and sees The Weeknd singing in Spanish, as he did on Maluma’s “Hawái” remix that was released almost exactly a year ago today.

Check out the trailer for The Weeknd and Rosalía’s upcoming “La Fama” video above.

Duckwrth Sprinkles Vibes All Over The Streets Paris In The ‘No Chill’ Video

It’s been a huge year for Duckwrth. The LA-based R&B punk did an NPR Tiny Desk Concert in April before his latest project, SG8, dropped in September. Then, just as he was wrapping up a sold out US tour, he was announced as the direct support act for Billie Eilish’s massive 2022 tour. Pat yourself on the back, sir.

Now Duckwrth has just dropped the visual for “No Chill” (off of SG8), filmed on the streets of Paris during Fashion Week. A designer himself, he dances through the Tuileries and sips espresso in the clip, while donning a pair of fringe pants that he personally designed for Levi’s. “In the haze of couture and Parisian energy, I felt like this would be the perfect landscape for an easy listening song with a simple message: celebrate life,” he said in a statement. “As it goes ‘My God, tell the models / Keep the bottles on ice’ !”

Nike Will Reportedly Release Digital Shoes Through The Metaverse

Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of chatter about the Metaverse, which is the latest virtual reality project from the likes of Facebook. In fact, Facebook is now changing its name to Meta as the company looks to focus on this new endeavor. Aside from tech nerds and those who actually worked on the project, no one is really enthused about this whole thing. Despite this, it hasn’t stopped companies from creating entire strategies around it.

According to Tech Insider, Nike has been closely monitoring the situation with Metaverse and has been developing patents for the new technology. As you can suspect, it’s all centered around footwear, as well as performance-based tracking.

Effectively, Nike is looking to allow people to buy shoes in the digital world, as opposed to real life. From there, people can build their avatars and even have Nike track their fitness in order to then translate that information over to said avatar. There will also be digital lockers for people to store their digital skins, and there will even be some NFT implications as well. Needless to say, it’s a bit of a convoluted plan that has fans scratching their heads. After all, why buy digital fake shoes when you can just wear the real thing on your feet.

It remains to be seen how any of this is going to work, but for now, Nike seems committed to being an innovator in the digital reality space.

Young M.A Blushes While Meeting Halle Berry

Young M.A and Halle Berry have both had busy years. This weekend, however, each of them found the time to link up to promote Halle’s new film.

Yesterday (Nov. 8), Young M.A posted a video to her Instagram with Halle Berry hugging her as she kept repeating “oh my gosh” in shock, captioning it with: “@halleberry wow! I appreciate you QUEEN!! I’m on the Bruised Soundtrack Nov 19th on all platforms and I’m excited for Bruised the movie droppin Nov 24TH on Netflix!!”

It is almost as if M.A had a huge crush on Halle Berry, and finally got to meet her in person. In the video, Berry says, “this is my baby right here.” So, it appears the two get along well.

Young M.A will be featured on the soundtrack for Berry’s new Netflix film Bruised, in which Berry is the lead actor and will be making her directional debut. The soundtrack is set to release next Friday, and the movie will drop the following Friday, Nov. 24. This appearance by Young M.A comes on the heels of her dropping her latest project Off the Yak in May, with marquee features like Fivio Foreign and Rubi Rose.

Fans teased M.A’s reaction to meeting Berry, and anticipated a romance between the duo, although Berry is in a committed relationship at the moment.

While it is unlikely any extra fun was had between Young M.A and Halle Berry after the fact, M.A has said before that she is absolutely attracted to women, but prefers not to go by any particular sexuality labels.

Howard Stern Takes Aim At Aaron Rodgers, Wants Him Gone From NFL

Aaron Rodgers caused quite the controversy this past week as he tested positive for COVID-19. At first, it didn’t seem like a big deal although it ultimately became one due to the fact that it was revealed that Rodgers had lied about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. It was a truly low moment in his career and it was only made worse when he came back and decided to claim that the “woke mob” and “cancel culture” would end up coming after him.

Needless to say, it hasn’t exactly been a week to remember for Rodgers who is now being lumped in with the likes of Kyrie Irving. This was particularly true on The Howard Stern Show recently, when Stern went off on Rodgers, even claiming that the quarterback should be booted from the league for good.

“This f***ing guy. They should throw him out of the league so fast,” Stern said. “If I ran the NFL, if there was decency in this world, I would throw this guy out of the football league so fast. They should throw him out of the league so fast with the guy who crashed his car at 153 mph.”

Stern said something similar about Kyrie Irving, claiming that the basketball star was one of the dumbest people in the United States. Needless to say, the vaccination issue is one that remains near and dear to the heart of the infamous shock jock.
