Rod Wave Denies That His Latest Single Was A Suicide Letter: ‘That’s Not How That Works’

Rod Wave is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve. It’s what that’s made him appealing to his fanbase, who gave the Florida rapper his first No. 1 album with Soulfly earlier this year. Despite this, Rod Wave’s last single “Nirvana,” which he shared and quickly deleted on Saturday, left many concerned, as people felt it sounded like a suicide letter.

The lyrics left people worried. “If you’re hearin’ this, it’s too late / I’ve been writin’ this since Tuesday, today Friday / That mean tomorrow’s doomsday / Tried to fight the pain, but it ate me alive,” he sings. However, according to Rod Wave himself, there’s nothing to worry about.

The Florida native hopped on Instagram Live to set the record straight. “Why the f*ck people take that sh*t and just say that was my suicide letter?” he said. “That’s not how that works. That’s not how suicide letters work. You don’t go to a studio and record a suicide letter. Real fans of me, people that listen to my music and f*ck with me, they know what my music be like, feel what I’m saying?” He added, “So, sh*t, they should already…But all the blogs and sh*t posting…just like cooking up sh*t saying, ‘Rod posting a suicide letter,’ that’s not true, bro.”

Rod also addressed critics who believed the song was an odd way for him to get people’s attention. “F*ck niggas hating, talking ’bout I’m looking for attention. Bitch, who the f*ck needs attention?” he said in the video. “You forgot who the f*ck I was? I don’t need new attention. Did you not see my tour? Did you not see my album sales? I don’t need no extra attention. I had already deleted my Insta and my Twitter and all that shit because of the extra attention. I don’t need no extra attention from nobody, I’m good.”

You can listen to a clip from his livestream and hear some of “Nirvana” above.

Rio Da Yung Og Says “Fiend Lives Matter”

Rio Da Yung OG started 2021 out on a rough note after being sentenced to five years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and intent to distribute controlled substances, but as the year comes to a close, he’s feeling reflective, as you can hear on his new EP, Fiend Lives Matter.

The 7-track tape marks Rio’s first solo delivery this year – he appeared alongside Lil Yachty on “Royal Rumble” back in February, and has been dropping collaborative EPs like Life Of A Yung Og with Nuez, Murder Mitten Babies with Baby Zeek, Dum N Dumbber 3  with Rmc Mike, and Back From Michigan with PM Capo.

The project’s second track, “Dope Fein Friday” received a video that introduces us to the rapper’s father, Rio Da Old OG, who reassures his son that his prison sentence will be up “in no time.” While some of the titles on the tracklist like “Bag Back” have a playful feel, the “Outro” sees him contemplate his life decisions that got him to where he is today.

Check out Fiend Lives Matter below and let us know which songs stand out to you in the comments.

Tracklist:

1. My Story

2. Dope Fein Friday

3. Bag Back

4. No Hook

5. Chill Side

Stunna Gambino Is Swinging On The Opps On “Man Down”

Stunna Gambino has been one of the most promising new stars New York City has to offer this year. Over the course of the past year, the rising rapper has dished out plenty of singles that have gotten his name hot in the streets. However, his efforts have ramped up in the past few months He teamed up with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie in late August for “Demons,” which followed a slew of solo singles like “Talk 2 Em” and “ZAZA.”

Just before the year comes to an end, Stunna Gambino is back with more heat. This week, the rapper dropped off his latest single, “Man Down,” produced by Maaui Yahweh. It’s another banger to add to Gambino’s catalog. Hopefully, a new project is in the stash for 2022.

Quotable Lyrics
Put a milli on a Richard Millie arm
For all the fuckin’ times that you ever did me wrong
I been in my bag but I’ve been trying to keep it calm
‘Cause even when I’m right, you bitches hope that I’m wrong

Gunna Says He’s Never Taking Off His Beyoncé Ivy Park Drip

It feels like it was just yesterday that Beyoncé shared her ad campaign for her latest Ivy Park collection, but we’re already seeing the iconic pieces from this drop appear in the Instagram photos of some of the most stylish celebrities, including Mr. “Drip Influencer” himself, Gunna.

On Saturday night, the 28-year-old shared a series of snaps that show him rocking a black bucket hat with some green details, some shades, a long black and white plaid coat with the same green details, some black pants, and a pair of crisp white sneakers to complete the look.

“Put That Shit on and Never Take it Off ! SLATTy,” he captioned the post, which included a video of him shouting out the “Crazy In Love” singer. “They asked me what I had on, I told ‘em ‘Ask Beyoncé,’ because she sent me this coat,” he said with a smile before turning around to give us a full look at the garment.

Several comments from friends and fans alike have been gassing the “Drip Too Hard” rapper up, tagging Ivy Park in the comments to let Yoncé know that she killed it on the design of her collection, once again.

In case you missed it, this time around the mother of three went for more of a preppy vibe, naming her drop Halls of Ivy and describing it as a “figurative space that is somewhere between where you are now, and where you aspire to be…Halls of Ivy is a boundless, unconfined place where everyone is welcome.”

Check out the campaign video, featuring familiar faces like Natalia Bryant, Blue Ivy Carter, and James Harden below.

FRVRFRIDAY Shares New Single “Time & It’s Order”

FRVRFRIDAY has been serving up heat this year. Though he’s only dropped off a handful of singles, they’ve been promising signs of what he has in store. This week, he dropped off “Time & It’s Order.” Led by the guitar-laden production, FRVRFRIDAY’s melodic delivery creates a dreamy vibe as he details his life of luxury from his come-up in the streets.

“I got in the studio and ‘Time & It’s Order’ was the first beat we played,” he told Complex of the song. “It had this crazy energy—a real no brainer. I remember being bent about some shit someone that was close to me said about me. Hence the opening line. The rest flowed effortlessly, I was just talking to the mic as if I was talking to a homie. This is one of my favorite tracks to play before a show because it gets me and my crew in that performance mode.”

Quotable Lyrics
We bound by time and its order
Take my bitch cross borders
If you trying to sign me for a million
I got n***as that’ll kill for a quarter

Chris Brown’s Mom Gushes Over His Showmanship At Rolling Loud L.A.

Chris Brown is one hell of a performer. Unfortunately, many fans haven’t been able to witness this with their own eyes in the past few years due to the coronavirus pandemic. That’s why fans have been ecstatic about Los Angeles’ Rolling Loud. Artists like J. Cole, Kid Cudi, and Lil Durk held it down during the festival in the past few days, though Breezy’s slow ahead of the Dreamville rapper’s last night became widely talked about.

Rick Ross Gives A Nod To The ‘Outlawz’ Of The World In His Video With 21 Savage And Jazmine Sullivan

More than two years after releasing his last body of work, Rick Ross returned this past weekend with his eleventh album Richer Than I Ever Been. It’s a rather short project, with just 12 songs and guest appearances from Wale, Future, Benny The Butcher, and more. To celebrate, Ross returns with a video for the album’s lead single, “Outlawz” with 21 Savage and Jazmine Sullivan. It finds Ross driving around town, with appearances from his two collaborators.

The video comes after Ross responded to rumors that he and Meek Mill, who is signed to his Maybach Music Group label, were not on good terms. “I feel like we’re both hustlers,” he said during an interview at the Grammy Museum. “That’s one thing about life, you either grow together or grow apart. As a boss, you make that decision, because whatever it is you want to do, Ricky Rozay wants to see you do it. There’s a lot of people that didn’t last or was still down with me the way Meek is — so I want to see the homie shine regardless.”

You can watch the video for “Outlawz” in the video above.

Richer Than I Ever Been is out now via Maybach Music Group/Epic Records. Get it here.

Wiz Khalifa Reunites With Cardo & Sledgren On “Blacc Tarantino”

Wiz Khalifa fans have been loving the 34-year-old’s surprise project, Wiz Got Wings since it arrived at midnight on Friday. The album sees Wiz reunite with former collaborators Cardo (Got Wings) and Sledgren to create a masterpiece that feels similar to some of his older offerings that have stayed in rotation over the years.

The tape’s 11th track, “Blacc Tarantino” has quickly become a standout, with the North Dakota-born star cooly rhyming over smooth, almost magical production. “She don’t wanna be left out / Let her hit the weed, this the best out / Came over to my crib with her chest out / Best friend hatin’, she the next one waitin’,” the catchy intro goes.

While Wiz and his collaborators handle much of the album on their own, Fedd the God was tapped for “Dr. Dankenstien,” Young Deji appears on “Purple Fantasy,” “2 Stoned For TV” sees Curren$y, and Larry June assists on “Know Better.” Last, but certainly not least, Chevy Woods shows up on the final track, “The Kid Frankie Pt. 2.”

Listen to “Blacc Tarantino” below and let us know what titles you’ve been loving from Wiz Got Wings.

Quotable Lyrics:

She don’t wanna be left out

Let her hit the weed, this the best out

Came over to my crib with her chest out

Best friend hatin’, she the next one waitin’

Alicia Keys & Ne-Yo Stand Out On This Week’s “R&B Season” Playlist

We’re quickly approaching the end of the year. Thankfully, we’ve made it out of the thick of the pandemic and lockdowns. With the world opening back up, more artists have pushed out new music in anticipation of hitting the road in 2022. In recent weeks, there’s been a spur of new releases among some of music’s most renowned artists.

Alicia Keys dropped Alicia in 2020 and she wasted little time following the project with the release of Keys. The double-disc effort puts Alicia Keys’ incredible songwriting and vocal chops front and center, though she does bring on a few interesting guests. Pusha T, for example, helps kick the project off on “Plentiful.” It was a no-brainer that we add this track to this week’s R&B Season playlist.

Ne-Yo dropped off his latest, What Was earlier this year but he’s not slowing down as the new year nears. On Friday, he blessed fans with a brand new collaboration among R&B’s most exciting new artists Yung Bleu. Together, they delivered their latest collab, “Stay Down.”

Finally, a favorite in modern R&B Lucky Daye slid through with a new single, “Candy Drip.” The sultry new single follows the release of “Over” in September. Perhaps, the follow-up to Table For Two is in the pipeline for 2022.
