Zion Williamson Issues Response To Shaq & Charles Barkley

Zion Williamson has been going through it as of late. Overall, ever since he entered the league, there have been concerns about his health. Mostly, this has to do with his weight, which has allegedly gone up to as much as 330 pounds. Ultimately, this is not good, especially when you are supposed to be a franchise cornerstone. Furthermore, things got particularly ugly when the New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the In-Season Tournament semi-finals. Since that time, everyone has been calling him fat, including Stephen A. Smith, Shaq, and Charles Barkley.

On Monday night, Williamson had himself a bounce-back game of sorts. He dropped 36 points and was flying all over the court. Furthermore, his team ended up beating the Minnesota Timberwolves who are a team that has been playing spectacular basketball this year. After the game, Williamson was asked about some of the criticisms that have come his way as of late. Although Williamson could have been upset, he was very diplomatic about it, instead. His answer definitely showed some maturity.

“If it comes from a great place and a place where they just wanna see me do better, thank you,” Williamson said. “But if it comes from anywhere else, everyone entitled to their own opinion. Can’t control that.” At the end of the day, Williamson will have to dig deep if he wants to fix his weight. Getting yourself right is absolutely no easy task. However, with the right trainers and the right regimen, Zion could definitely make it happen. At this point, it is just a question of motivation.

Hopefully, Zion Williamson will be able to live up to the hype. He has shown flashes of brilliance, and when he is healthy, he is a beast out on the court. He has been known to be cruel on occasion, and it can get ugly. As for who he is going after right now, that man would just so happen to be Zion Williamson.

Williamson had a lackluster performance against LeBron James in the In-Season Tournament semi-final. Subsequently, there was a whole bunch of chatter about his weight and whether or not he was in the proper shape to play basketball. Over the weekend, Stephen A. was on his podcast where he was extremely hard on Williamson. Today, on First Take, he went even harder. In the video below, Smith talks about Zion’s weight and how he has heard about the NBA star from chefs down in New Orleans. He even had one quote that is setting the NBA world on fire.

It was a hell of a quote and many are wondering what exactly is wrong with the former Duke standout. At some point, someone on the team will have to hold him accountable.

Smith slammed Zion Williamson during a rant on the latest episode of his eponymous show in response to the 23-year-old’s performance in the semifinal game of the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament on Thursday night. During the New Orleans Pelicans’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Williamson finished with just 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.

“Zion Williamson, who is more than five years younger, but 40 pounds heavier, went to the free throw line,” Smith said. “Ladies and gentlemen, I saw a belly. A belly. Like, when he took a deep breath, his belly bounced. That kind of belly. I mean, damn. Damn. What’s up, Zion?”

Smith continued: “It’s bad enough you got your ass kicked, losing by 44 points in the semifinals. Did nothing to lead and galvanize your team. Did nothing to show the man-child that you are and to take over. But you look like you showed up to the game having just ate a buffet. Not something from the buffet, I said the buffet. Like you ate the damn table. I wasn’t going to touch on this, because I was embarrassed for him. But then Sports Illustrated wrote about it, and the New Orleans Times-Picayune, local newspaper, wrote about it. So it’s public information. JJ Redick On Zion Williamson: “He’s Still Not In Shape”

After a 133-89 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA’s In-Season Tournament, everyone’s got something to say about Zion Williamson. Moreover, many folks within the basketball world, whether it’s fans, commentators, analysts, or fellow players, criticized his 13-point, 3-rebound performance. While these are never easy critiques to handle as a professional athlete, many of them come from a place of love, admiration, and hope. Everyone knows how good Zion is, especially former teammates like JJ Redick, who expressed his thoughts on the matter on Friday’s (December 8) edition of NBA Today. During his remarks, he expressed belief in the fact that the young North Carolina forward has always faced these issues, but expressed even more hope that he can overcome them.

“I was disappointed, and overall, I’ve been disappointed in Zion this season,” JJ Redick remarked. “We can certainly point to counting stats and say he’s having a fine season, but you can be in the building, you can watch on TV, you can be courtside and you can see he’s not in shape. He still isn’t in shape despite everything that he [went] through.

And that is disappointing because as someone who’s a fan of his, a former teammate, a fellow Duke guy, I know— we all know— how great he can be.

Shaq and Charles Barkley had no time for Zion Williamson’s poor showing against the Lakers in the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament. “Does not run hard — it’s not a diss, this is gonna be a lesson from one great big man to another guy that can be a great. Does not run hard. I had the same problem my first, second year — I thought I was running hard. Charles talks about this all the time, my talent’s gonna get me 20. When I start going to 20, 30, and 40, it’s because I started doing certain things,” Shaq said.

However, the Hall of Fame big man wasn’t finished “He doesn’t create easy points for himself. I saw a couple times when he had a couple times at the basket, he don’t seal, right? He doesn’t demand the ball … and he doesn’t have that look. Like, I’m not the greatest athlete ever, but I know a look when I see it. In every sport, I know a look. Tiger Woods had that look, Jack Nicklas had that look. He just doesn’t have that look. And he doesn’t rebound. He does not rebound,” he continued.

Furthermore, Williamson – who went 13/2/3 in the 44-point blowout loss – was the first to admit that he didn’t play his best game. “I got to be better. I got to be more aggressive, finding my shot. And I got to do more things to get my team going. I think I was too laid-back tonight, and I just can’t do that. And defensively I got to be better,” Williamson said.

On the other side of the ball, LeBron James had one of his biggest games of the year. LeBron looked ageless as he put up 30/5/8 to power the Lakers into the title game against Indiana. However, that’s now two games in a row that Williamson has struggled to break double digits. In the Pels’ quarterfinal win over Sacramento, Williamson was held to just 10 points. “I have a problem where I literally just try to hunt the best shot possible every time, but my teammates, they expect more from me. I expect more from myself. But I got to just trust my game. I just got to be more aggressive. I think if I’m more aggressive that energy will definitely carry over,” Williamson added.
