GloRilla has one of the year’s biggest songs so far with “Wanna Be,” and that tune and others made the cut for her 2024 BET Awards performance.
Right from the jump, GloRilla decided to enter the stage via a (prop) parachute. From there, she ran through an energetic medley featuring “Yeah Glo!,” “TGIF,” and “Wanna Be.” “Wanna Be,” of course, is a collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. Meg opened the BET Awards with a performance of her own, so she stuck around and gave Glo an assist by joining for the song, even wrapping things up with an on-stage twerk-off.
One of the biggest rap songs in the early going of 2024 has to be “Yeah Glo!” by GloRilla. The Memphis femcee was losing some steam after dropping tracks like “F.N.F.” and “Tomorrow 2”. At least, that was the narrative amongst most fans, but she really shut up a lot of skeptics with that February single. It has become one of the genre’s anthems of the year, as it preaches self-worth and being confident in your abilities. Because of its message and lively performance, the track has been widely praised by many, including other rappers. One of them is Young Dro, who has recently decided to rap over the instrumental and retitle it “Yeah Dro Freestyle”.
Young Dro is a veteran wordsmith and has been an unheralded name in the Atlanta scene for well over a decade and a half. The “Shoulder Lean” MC is not as eager to drop much anymore it seems, as it evidenced by his last project dropping in 2022. That would be Da Real Atlanta & HyDROponic (Deluxe Edition). Furthermore, his last singles came back in 2023. But, after almost five full months, Young Dro is back with the “Yeah Dro Freestyle”.
It is only available on his YouTube page, which features just this one song. Even though he has received minor publicity on the platform, the off-the-dome performance has over 100,000 views. Dro shows off his always impressive flows and wordplay across the 2:48 of runtime. Be sure to support him and the song with the link above.
What are your thoughts on “Yeah Dro Freestyle” by Young Dro? Did he body the “Yeah Glo!” beat, why or why not? Is he still a criminally underrated rapper, or is he properly rated? Do you think he should drop a new album this year? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. LeBron James impressed Metro Boomin when he rapped along to Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” verse during warmups ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, March 31. GloRilla heaped more praise onto the ever-expanding LeBron James Praise Pile during the latest episode of Club Shay Shay.
Host Shannon Sharpe asked for GloRilla’s reaction to James posting a video of him dancing and rapping along to her February single “Yeah Glo!” The Memphis rapper explained that she found out about it while getting a massage and noticing her phone “blow up” on the “little massage table” and initially blowing it off before finally looking and seeing that “everybody [was] calling me, like, ‘LeBron just posted your song!’”
“LeBron knew the words! I can watch LeBron rap songs and not know the words for real. He knew ‘Yeah Glo!’ That was good for him because he don’t be knowing songs for real. … Nobody can tell me ish. I got LeBron co-sign and I got Shannon co-signing me.” – @GloTheofficialpic.twitter.com/w2Jo3zIW0Q
GloRilla said she “instantly reposted it,” and then she hit up Rodeo Drive to get something to wear to the Lakers’ game that night because “this is one of the best — not one of the best — this is the best player in the league right now.” Glo paused to clarify that the late Kobe Bryant is her favorite player, but James is second.
Sharpe rained on her parade, saying, “He ain’t know not one word.” GloRilla countered with, “He knew the words! He did! I done watched LeBron rap songs and not know the words for real. He knew ‘Yeah Glo!’ He probably ain’t say, like, certain words, but that was good for him because he don’t be knowing songs for real. He knew more words than usual when he was singing ‘Yeah Glo!’”
GloRillacontinues to thrive in 2024 for a number of reasons. The Memphis rapper started off the year with a bang due to her single “Yeah Glo!” Its messages of self-affirmation are something that everyone can get down with. It has also proven to be quite the workout track. LeBron James was bumping it loud and proud during one of his famous and rigorous training sessions. The King is known for supporting rappers across the genre, regardless of how bad he is at remembering lyrics. Glo eventually caught wind of the Lakers superstar messing with the song and they would wind up meeting in person. LeBron and his support for GloRilla and “Yeah Glo!” was a topic brought up in conversation with Shannon Sharpe.
She was the most recent guest on his hit podcast Club Shay Shay and a clip from it is gaining some attention. GloRilla is also hip to the fact that James has a foggy memory when it comes lyrics, and she made quite a funny joke about it. “LeBron knew the words. I watch LeBron rap songs and not know the words for real. He knew ‘Yeah Glo!’”
GloRilla Couldn’t Contain Her Excitement About LeBron Bumping “Yeah Glo!”
Later on in the chat, Glo also expressed how thankful she was for LeBron’s support and how nice he was when they linked up. It meant so much to her, especially since her family is a big fan of the NBA. Furthermore, she went on to mention that Bron is her second favorite player ever behind the late Kobe Bryant. Life is going great for GloRilla as she is also going to be dropping her new mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang, this Friday, which features “Yeah Glo!” as its lead single.
What are your thoughts on GloRilla shouting out LeBron for bumping “Yeah Glo!”? Is this song still in your rotation? Are you excited for her upcoming mixtape Ehhthang Ehhthang? Do you think she is going to have her best project when this drops on Friday? Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding GloRilla and LeBron James. Since finding viral success with her 2022 track “F.N.F. (Let’s Go),” GloRilla has become quite comfortable in the limelight. But, there’s one thing she’s still settling into—her brand new breast implants.
In fact, GloRilla accidentally flashed her four million followers online during an Instagram livestream. Immediately, fans began to clip the moment, reposting it across the social media platform. Although the “Yeah Glo!” rapper isn’t ashamed of her innocent peep show, supporters have begun to flood her comments with remarks about the moment. So, on March 2, GloRilla addressed it with a rather perky response on another broadcast.
“Let me tell ya somethin’,” she said. “Stop acting like y’all are so muthaf*ckin’ amazed by a nipple. Baby, ain’t it sh*t but a nipple. Calm down. Please calm down.”
GloRilla didn’t stop there. She went on to scold her followers for screen-recording the moment. “I don’t know, I’m not going to do sh*t in the background f*cking around with y’all,” she said. “Baby, y’all see everything. Y’all gonna record that sh*t. Y’all don’t play them type of games.”
In December 2023, GloRilla shared the news of her body modification on Instagram. “I just bought some new titties,” she said. “Y’all like my new titties? I’m on my bullsh*t, I just bought some new titties. I ain’t with that overboard sh*t. These are just a little fill-in. Just filled them in.”
Since then, GloRilla has kept supporters updated on her recovery process.
It’s been a minute since GloRilla dropped music. But tonight (February 9), she’s back with the heat. GloRilla just released “Yeah Glo!,” another dirty south anthem bound to be on repeat for the foreseeable future.
On “Yeah Glo!,” GloRilla reminds us that she’s not disappearing from the rap game anytime soon. “Big Glo, where you been at? / Mane, everywhere, I’m workin’ hard / Maybach and G-Wagon trucks, got M&M’s in my garage,” she raps on one of the song’s verses, letting everyone know she’s taking time to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
But don’t push her. This doesn’t mean she’s softened. In fact, if you ask her for a collaboration, she just “might embarrass you.”
“Yeah Glo!” arrives nearly two years after the Memphis rapper dropped her breakthrough hit “FNF (Let’s Go).” Since then, she’s released quite a few heavy-hitting anthems.
Last August, Glo teased her full-length debut album in an interview with Good Morning America. While she didn’t reveal two many details, she did say the songs would be equally, if not more catchy, as her previously released earworms.
“I’m excited about it,” said Glo. “I plan on going number one. I gotta make another song that’s gonna have all the girls screaming — and another anthem.”
In the meantime, you can listen to “Yeah Glo!” above.
