Westside Boogie Announces ‘More Black Superheroes’ And Releases ‘Killa Mode’ Featuring Storm Ford

In 2019, Compton, California-native rapper Westside Boogie put out Everythings For Sale, and fans have been anxious for new music since. After a name change, some freestyles, and a bunch of guest verses, there was some hope for an album last month when he released the song “Stuck,” as well as a music video, both of which appeared to suggest something was coming.

Today, Boogie is officially back with the announcement of his new album More Black Superheroes, as well as the release of the single “Killa Mode.” The LP will be out this Friday and span 12 tracks, while including features from Soulja Boy, Snoop Dogg, Mamii, Smino, Teezo Touchdown, Kalan.FrFr., and more.

“This album is about embracing our powers,” he wrote, “This album is for you because you survived all your trials, for the black fathers that go out in the world and feel like they have to hide all our true feelings because it seems weak to express how you’re hurt but no that’s one of your biggest strengths, For the people that feel boxed by the world and have to hide there many sides ..I love you let’s heal together .MORE BLACK SUPERHEROES out on Friday now go pre save my sh*tt”

Westside Boogie Admits To Being Confined By His Own Roots In The Video For ‘Stuck’

It looks like 2022 will finally be the year that Westside Boogie delivers a new album to the world. The last time he dropped a full-length project, which was 2019’s Everythings For Sale, the Compton rapper went simply by Boogie. Since then, he’s undergone a name change, freestyles over a number of rap’s most popular recent beats, and laid off a few guest verses. In addition to that, Boogie dropped his first official single, “Outside” with Joey Badass, towards the end of 2020 which signified the start of a new chapter in his career. That continues Boogie’s latest release.

Westside Boogie returns with “Stuck” and it’s an honest effort that sees him admit to being confined to his roots. While fame and success might cause some to run away from the responsibilities and dangers of home, Boogie says he’s yet to fully detach himself from his home. “It’s somethin’ ’bout the hood, I love it, I ain’t goin’, no, I’m stuck,” he raps on the song’s chorus.

The new track arrives after Boogie confirmed that his sophomore album will be titled More Black Superheroes. The news was shared through posts from Boogie and his label Shady Records. A release date for the project has yet to be revealed, but “Stuck” and news about More Black Superheroes both arrive after Boogie connected with Shelley fka DRAM for their recent collaboration, “Aight.”

In D Smoke And Westside Boogie’s ‘Crossover’ Video, Good Times Go Bad

In D Smoke’s new video for “Crossover” featuring Westside Boogie, good times go bad as a result of some bad decision-making. The video opens at an outdoor basketball game, where the Inglewood rapper puts the shimmy shake on a prideful player. With his feelings hurt, Smoke’s opponent goes to his bag and winds up clearing the court when he pulls out a pistol. Later, at a house party attended by both rappers, Smoke gets friendly with a lovely lady, only to have their “alone time” interrupted by a deeply unaware admirer.

“Crossover” appears on D Smoke’s 2021 album War & Wonders, the follow-up to the Rhythm+Flow champ’s debut album Black Habits. It’s the fourth video to be released from the project after “It’s OK,” “Shame On You,” and “Say Go.” The new album, which followed a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, featured 16 tracks and guest appearances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Fireboy DML, John Legend, Marsha Ambrosius, SiR (D Smoke’s real-life brother), Tobe Nwigwe, and Ty Dolla Sign.

Westside Boogie, meanwhile, has laid low since the release of his 2019 debut album Everything’s For Sale, but has released a handful of singles including “Float” while making occasional guest appearances on tracks with Dreamville rapper Lute and his LVRN family.

Westside Boogie Takes A Break From His Problems On The Meditative ‘Float’ Featuring Mamii

Compton rapper Westside Boogie is over two years removed from his debut album Everythings For Sale, and while fans impatiently await his follow-up album, he’s kept their appetites satisfied with a string of freestyles throughout the year, including the “Joe Exotic Freestyle,” a freestyle over Moneybagg Yo’s “Said Sum,” “Do 4 Love” over Tupac’s Bobby Caldwell-sampling hit, and a freestyle over CJ’s breakout hit “Whoopty.”

However, what fans really wanted in all that time was a single, something that showed the new album might be on the way. Today, Boogie scratched that particular itch with “Float,” a meditative ode to the calming powers of the ocean featuring R&B/soul singer Mamii. Featuring a chill, guitar-driven groove and down-tempo percussion, “Float” finds Boogie considering his myriad problems and the way he can temporarily escape them by taking a little time to himself to drift on the waves. Like many of Boogie’s fan favorites, it’s relatable and illuminating, giving listeners a look at his interior thoughts while reminding them of our universal experiences.

Whether this means Boogie’s new album is ready remains to be seen, but in the meantime, fans will still get plenty of new material from the Compton rapper with his feature on Lute’s upcoming album Gold Mouf.

Lute’s Long-Awaited Album ‘Gold Mouf’ Features JID, Little Brother, Saba And More

Dreamville fans have been waiting for Lute’s album Gold Mouf for a longer time than originally anticipated after a global pandemic set back its release last year. In February of 2020, Lute started the hype train rolling with his “GED” video and a related web series, only to see the entire music industry shut down as a result of COVID-19 safety protocols. In the meantime, though, he collected his platinum plaques from the Revenge Of The Dreamers III compilation.

Now, though, the industry is once again humming, venues across the nation have reopened, and Lute finally has a release date for Gold Mouf, the follow-up to his well-received 2017 debut album West1996 Pt. 2: October 4. Today, he revealed the release date and the feature-filled tracklist, which contains nods to both his Dreamville family and his North Carolina roots. Fellow Dreamvillians Ari Lennox, Cozz, and JID appear on three separate tracks, while out-of-town assistance comes in the form of features from BJ The Chicago Kid, Blakk Soul, Devn, Saba, and Westside Boogie.

But North Carolina natives and fans of the sort of soulful throwback hip-hop embodied by much of Dreamville’s roster will likely be most excited to see the pioneering rap group Little Brother included. Considered inspirations to many of today’s top rappers, including Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Dreamville’s own J. Cole, the NC-based Little Brother eventually spawned the Grammy-winning efforts of former producer/DJ 9th Wonder and the multi-talented, do-it-all industry expanse of Phonte Coleman. Little Brother recently reunited as a duo featuring Phonte and Big Pooh with the blessing of 9th Wonder, making the occasion one to be truly excited for.

Gold Mouf is due 10/4 via Dreamville. Check out the tracklist below.
