Mac Miller x Vans Authentic “Swimming” Collab Drops Today

Mac Miller is a beloved artist who passed away entirely too soon. Overall, fans are still mourning him and it is easy to understand why. He remains an integral part of a lot of people’s formative years, and his art will live on forever. In fact, today marks the 5th anniversary of his incredible album, Swimming. This is considered to be his best work, and to this day, people are still talking about it. Although it wasn’t fully appreciated when it came out, it remains an undeniable body of work.

With Swimming turning five years old today, Vans has decided to come out with an amazing collaboration. This new sneaker is going to pay homage to Mac Miller, as well as the album itself. As you can see in an official image below, this shoe is a Vans Authentic. This is an iconic yet simple silhouette that plenty of consumers have enjoyed over the years.

As far as the colorway is concerned, there are some cool elements at play here. The shoe is mostly your basic black-and-white aesthetic. However, the toe box has a Yin and Yang symbol. Supreme x Vans “Money” Collection Unveiled: Details

Although Vans isn’t the most popular sneaker brand these days, they do have some truly classic silhouettes. Overall, some of those silhouettes are the Vans Era, the Vans Old Skool, and the Skate Grosso Mid. Supreme has implemented its style on these silhouettes over the years, and they fully intend on continuing that tradition.

Tomorrow, fans will be able to cop the Supreme x Vans “Money” collection. This is a capsule that had been teased months ago and is now finally coming to fruition. Consequently, fans of these two brands are very excited about what they are about to get. As it turns out, there will be three colorways of the Vans Skate Grosso Mid. Moreover, there will be one simple colorway of the Vans Era. Overall, these offerings are extremely unique and certainly fit the theme quite well.

As you can see in the image above, we have the Supreme x Vans Era which boasts an upper filled with money print. Secondly, the Grosso Mid has money print on the side panels. As for the different colorways at play here, we have pink, black, and lighter pink. Ultimately, this is one of those collaborations that is not for everyone. Vans and Timberland Reveal First Collaboration

Vans and Timberland are launching their first capsule collection together in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the former label’s iconic “Half Cab.” ‘Half Cab,’ first released in 1992 and Timberland’s sturdy ‘Euro Hiker’ boots were created in 1988. The original silhouette is most known for its firm construction that guarantees performance in cold-weather (great for metropolitan terrain trotters) and its clean earthy appeal. The duo is teaming up on an entirely new hybrid silhouette that’s half skate shoe and half hiking boot, dubbed the Vans Skateboarding x Timberland Half Cab Hiker.

The pair have described the collaboration to be “entirely unique” while still upholding familiarity. The ⅝ cut upper placed on top of a Euro Hiker boot outsole alongside two-tone round boot laces reflects that statement. The ‘Half Cab Hiker’ is made up of canvas, Timberland’s premium leather, and a ReBOTL lining made from at least 50 percent recycled plastic. The shoes also contain padded leather collars, rubber lug outsoles and dual iconography. The colorways available include Wheat and Chocolate/Olive.

In addition, the ‘Half Cab Hikers’ is a reimagined take on Timberland’s premium 6-inch Waterproof Boots born out of 1973. The Vans team modernized the shoe by taking inspiration from streetwear, workwear and skate aesthetics. The new model stays connected to the Vans aesthetic with an appearance of the signature checkerboard print. More developments can be seen in the all-black updates that mark the release of the Vans Skateboarding x Timberland 6-Inch Boot.

Tyga And His Wavy Baby Sneakers Will Appear Against Vans In The Federal Appeals Court

Tyga has been locked in a legal battle over his recent Wavy Baby sneaker collaboration with MSCHF since April, but it appears they may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Billboard reports The U.S Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has quickly approved an appeal submitted by the Brooklyn studio that assisted the “Taste” artist in making the shoe. On Wednesday, the court announced that the court would allow a quick challenge to a previous ruling that banned the sale of the sneakers because they look too much like Vans Old Skools.

MSCHF cited that the case was time-sensitive, as the ban infringed upon their First Amendment rights. “MSCHF is grateful that the Second Circuit granted its motion to expedite this appeal, which raises critical questions of the intersection of the First Amendment and trademark law,” stated David Bernstein, the company’s lawyer. “Given that MSCHF plans to display Wavy Baby at the Perrotin Gallery and at Art Basel this fall, it was essential that the appeal be expedited so that the Second Circuit can protect MSCHF’s First Amendment rights.”

The Second Circuit states the case will be fully briefed by mid-August and the ruling will come sometime after that. The Wavy Baby sneakers were originally set to release on April 18.

Tyga and MSCHF Can No Longer Sell Their ‘Wavy Baby’ Sneakers Thanks To A Judge’s Ruling

Earlier this month, Tyga and Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF teamed up for their Wavy Baby sneakers, which to most consumers, looked awfully similar to a pair of Vans Old Skool sneakers. MSCHF even admitted to the similarities, saying that the Wavy Baby sneakers were a parody of Vans’ classic shoe. To the surprise of no one, Vans filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement against Tyga and MSCHF, and to the duo’s assumed disappointment, they will now have to put a halt on future sales of the Wavy Baby sneakers. It comes after a judge ruled in favor of Vans due to the shoes’ “striking visual similarities.”

According to Billboard, U.S. District Judge William F. Kuntz shared the ruling on Friday and he did not hold back in his statement about the matter. “Despite defendant’s assertions the Wavy Baby shoes belong in museums and galleries for exhibition, the production of 4,306 pairs of shoes places the Wavy Baby shoes on a mobile footing vastly different from one found at the Brooklyn Museum,” Judge Kuntz wrote. MSCHF previously said that their Wavy Baby sneakers were a parody that was meant to comment on “sneakerhead” culture, but Judge Kuntz said that he nor consumers would catch the joke.

“Whatever the actual artistic merits of the Wavy Baby shoes, the shoes do not meet the requirements for a successful parody,” he wrote. “While the manifesto accompanying the shoes may contain protected parodic expression, the Wavy Baby shoes and packaging in and of themselves fail to convey the satirical message.”

Despite this ruling, MSCHF claimed that nearly all orders of the Wavy Baby shoes had already been sold and shipped. As a result, Judge Kuntz also ordered MSCHF to place all profits from the shoe into escrow so that they could potentially be returned to consumers. He also ordered them to cancel or reverse any and all orders that they could.

In response to the ruling, MSCHF’s attorney Megan K. Bannigan said that the company would continue the fight and claimed that the decision entirely omitted key legal precedents. “The court’s decision fails to recognize MSCHF’s First Amendment rights to artistic expression, regardless of the particular medium or form of that expression,” Bannigan said. “MSCHF will continue to litigate this case, including through all available appeals, to secure its and all artists’ freedom to make their art.”

Vans Is Suing MSCHF Over Tyga’s Wavy Baby Sneakers, Calling Them Trademark Infringement

Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF’s sneaker collaborations with rappers have drawn both excitement and controversy. The group’s “Satan Shoe” collab with Lil Nas X not only drew fire from conservative commentators but also got slapped with a lawsuit from Nike. Now, another of MSCHF’s sneaker crossovers is the subject of a trademark infringement lawsuit. This time, Vans is suing the customizer over its Tyga-endorsed Wavy Baby sneaker, which alters what appears to be a pair of Vans Old Skools, giving them a bizarre, curvy sole and adjusting the iconic side stripes to match.

Although the shoes were set to release on April 18, Vans filed for a restraining order against MSCHF, saying the Wavy Baby shoes violated its trademarks and would confuse customers into thinking they were an official Vans collaboration. MSCHF, however, argues that the shoes are an artistic parody commenting on sneakerhead culture, consumerism, and corporate sneaker collaborations. According to Billboard, Megan K. Bannigan, MSCHF’s attorney in the case, told a judge in Brooklyn federal court Wednesday, “These shoes comment on consumerism, on the absurdity of sneakerhead culture. This was released as an art project. It was not released in competition with Vans.”

MSCHF also pointed out that all 4,000 pairs of the limited edition shoes already sold out, and the company has no intention to make more. However, according to Billboard, US District Judge William F. Kuntz seemed skeptical, saying, “The Wavy Baby might have Wavy Babies, and I think that’s what they’re afraid of. If that wasn’t an issue, I don’t think we’d be here.” He agreed to the restraining order but did not advise when it might be pushed through. Similarly, the Lil Nas X Satan Shoe case wound up with both companies settling, with MSCHF asking customers to voluntarily return their pairs — fat chance — and Nike issuing a statement that any complaints should be directed to MSCHF, not them.
