Atlanta Artist Rax Drops his First Single “Zip Tie” Feat Abu Da Don

unnamed 13

Atlanta just gained another artist to the roster, but this time it’s coming in HOT! Born and raised on the outskirts of A-Town, a new and upcoming artist, Rax, is hitting the scene with passion and authenticity through his raw lyrics and unique voice. Taking note of his talent in his childhood days, it was his innate instinct to explore how far his talent could go. Rax was inspired by music early on in life; from singing to being the Nick Cannon in Drumline of his local band, his talent has grown into a passion that has given the music industry everything that has been missing.

Real. Passionate. Raw – his first single, Zip Tie ft Abu Da Don, hit streaming platforms in late January and has proven to be the melodic tune that has listeners putting the single on replay. The content of this tune exploits the reality of hustle culture and what everyone seems to have issues with lately – life. “It's the realness for me!” The collaboration of these artists will be blasting at all functions this summer, and we hope to see more of it.

Kanye West’s ‘Donda 2’ Ruled Ineligible for Billboard Charts

Kanye West

Despite the hype surrounding his latest album release, Billboard magazine has announced that Kanye West‘s Donda 2 will be ineligible for placement on the Billboard charts.

The controversy stems from the Ye’s decision to exclusively release Donda 2 on his own proprietary Stem Player device. The bundling of the player and the album is in violation of Billboard charts’ merchandise bundle policy, which disqualifies albums that come bundled with physical merchandise.

Billboard announced the bundling rule back in 2020, stating that selling merchandise along with a physical album or digital album download (often a free download) as a way to boost album sales numbers would skew sales numbers. The practice had been a point of controversy for the chart-ranking publication for many years. Critics of bundling had suggested that bundling put newer (and less wealthy) artists at a disadvantage because they could only offer an album, not merchandise.

West’s Stem player has been a successful venture for the artist. The player, which comes pre-loaded with a variety of West’s albums (depending on what year the player was purchased), has reportedly sold 39,500 units for a total of about $8.6 million.

As of March 7, all Stem player owners can reportedly download Donda 2 to their devices.

Today in Hip-Hop History: De La Soul Dropped Their ‘3 Feet High And Rising’ LP 33 Years Ago

tumblr 41cfca433efe7e48d6f470c397d3042e 98cb4282 1280

On this day in 1989, the iconic trio De La Soul released an album that would change the course of Hip Hop forever. Off Tommy Boy Records, De La Soul’s debut album, 3 Feet High And Rising set the standard for what rap should (and would) sound like.

Along with producer Prince Paul, the group crafted a sonic landscape of sampled songs, sounds, and snippets unheard of before in Hip Hop. Where most producers sampled either James Brown or P-Funk, De La and producer Paul were borrowing from recordings by an unlikely host of artists usually not affiliated with hip-hop sampling like Johnny Cash, Hall and Oates, Otis Redding, The Turtles, and a French-language instructional record.

3 Feet High And Rising also introduced the “skit” concept, which is now almost too prevalent on rap albums. 3 Feet High And Rising also spawned hits and raps classics like Me, Myself And I, Potholes In My Lawn, Plug Tunin’, Buddy, Say No Go, The Magic Number and Eye No.

The album’s funky and dreamy 1960’s and 1970’s inspired attitude, coupled with the group’s concept of “The D.A.I.S.Y. Age, an acronym for “Da Inner Sound Y’all” caused people to inaccurately refer to the group as “hippies”.

The album’s diverse subject matter, which tackled things like poverty, individualism, drug abuse, love, materialism, commercialism and Hip Hop cliches, as spoken about on the track Take It Off, cause many to label it rap’s first intellectual album.

3 Feet High And Rising would also feature other members of the musical collective the group was a part of called The Native Tongues with guest appearances by A Tribe Called Quest, The Jungle Brothers, and Monie Love.

3 Feet And Rising is one of the most influential Hip Hop albums in music history.

Happy Heavenly Birthday To BDP’s DJ Scott La Rock!

Screen Shot 2022 03 02 at 8.13.49 AM

On this day in 1962, Scott Monroe Sterling known widely as DJ Scott La Rock of the famous Boogie Down Productions was born in the Bronx borough of New York City. Scott La Rock was the producer for rap icon KRS-One until his untimely death on August 27th, 1987.

La Rock was born in the Bronx, New York City, New York and was raised by his mother Carolyn Morant. As a child, he moved from Queens to the Morrisania neighborhood in the South Bronx then to the Morris Heights projects. La Rock attended Our Savior Lutheran High School where he was a great student and athlete. He originally intended to attend Castleton State University to play basketball but decided to switch his focus to music upon graduation. In college, he used to DJ at a local bar called Dugan’s Bar on Friday nights. From there his musical career blossomed.

La Rock graduated college in 1984 and returned to New York City. He worked a few jobs in the city while at night spinning records at the Broadway Repertoire Theatre. Through his work as a social worker, La Rock met his future partner in crime Kris Parker aka KRS-One at the Franklin’s Men’s Shelter. The two, along with Derrick Jones or DJ D-Nice, formed Boogie Down Productions.

In 1987 the group released their first LP, Criminal Minded, which has become a classic Hip Hop album. Criminal Minded has been ranked by The Source as one of the 100 Best Rap Albums. Rolling Stone ranked it as one of the 500 greatest albums. Complex Magazine ranks the track South Bronx from the album as #9 on their list of best diss-songs of Hip Hop.

La Rock life came to a stretching halt in 1987 due to senseless street violence. In an effort to support his friend and partner DJ D-Nice, La Rock was shot in the neck and died of his wound. As the story goes, La Rock, DJ D-Nice, Scotty “Manager Moe” Morris, DJ McBooo, and BDP bodyguard Darrell rolled up to the Highbridge Homes Projects in the South Bronx. They were there to handle a problem between D-Nice and a man who’s ex-girlfriend we was acquainted with at the time. After they handled their disagreement, bullet began to fly toward the white on red Jeep CJ-7 that they were riding in. La Rock was hit and later died at Lincoln Hospital within one hour of being shot.

KRS-One’s Stop the Violence Movement was a direct result of La Rock’s murder. Despite the loss of La Rock, KRS-One kept the Boogie Down Productions name alive and continued to release music and grow to be one of the most respected voices in Hip Hop. DJ Scott La Rock’s righteous legacy lives on forever through his music and the empire that he helped shape. Take some time today to listen to his classic album and pay some respect to his greatness.

Alpo Martinez’s Murder Linked To Road Rage Incident

Screen Shot 2022 03 01 at 9.01.26 AM

As reported yesterday, a 27-year-old man named Shakeem Parker was arrested and charged in the shooting death of former Harlem kingpin Alberto “Alpo” Martinez and now it is being alleged that the man killed Martinez over a past road rage incident.

The Daily News report says, “Parker, who is known as “Boonkie,” visited a deli in Harlem at 2:49 a.m., where he met up with his brother. He was captured on surveillance video chatting with friends before happening to notice Martinez driving by in the truck, the source said.” Another source close to the incident says that “there’s no indication that this was anything other than a crime of opportunity.”

Police ruled out drugs as a motive after tracking Parker’s movements before the shooting.

Dizzy Wright Releases New Single “24 Hours” Ft. Xzibit

df48aea2 ca07 47b5 a2b3 ef625875375f

Dizzy Wright is an independent artist and owner of the clothing brand and record company “Still Movin.” A thriving businessman who even has his own cannabis brand, it may come as a surprise that Dizzy still finds time to release music as his new song, “24 Hours” featuring Xzibit, challenges the world to match his work ethic.

DJ Hoppa and Puda & Soy is Real kill the beat with drums that sound like a combination of rock fills and finger drum pounds – the type of sound to make a rapper go off in legendary fashion as they achieved just that. Dizzy and Xzibit overdeliver with verses that disregard any suggestion that “We’ve Got the Same 24 Hours” is an unfair adage. The song is a chant to enemies, potential challengers, and the public alike to compete with the titans who are Xzibit and Dizzy Wright.

Wright is proudly plant-based – found his niche well before he started working with Hopsin in 2011 and later went on to join XXL’s Freshman Class of 2013 after winning the “Peoples Choice” vote. Rest assured Dizzy is going to continue taking time to cook up and grow his artistry as he’s proud to be collaborating with the legendary Xzibit having after having grown as an artist recording “The Growing Process” in Xzibit’s Los Angeles studio in 2015 and working his way up to creating a song with Xzibit himself. The work’s not finished as it’s only up from here.

“Listen / We got the same 24 hours/ they overlook the message ’cause they’re focused on the power”

Following up on Dizzy Wright, Xzibit goes off:
“I’mma headbutt the blunts/ Rock the whole shit back to front/ Cause calamity, humanity crushed/ Kill’em witta gentleman’s touch”-Xzibit, “24 Hours”

e0b1442b 6d76 4299 9ff3 0ffbcf42bd9b

Dizzy had the following to say about working with X to the Z:
“This collab with Xzibit means a lot to me on so many levels. Not only am I proud of the record and how dope it is I feel like if your going to work with a artist like X you gotta make sure you’re coming correct. I recorded my album “The growing process” back in 2015 and most of that album was recorded in Los Angeles at Xzibit’s studio. I never felt like I had a record that was hard enough for him back then so I didn’t try to force it. Now that me and Dj Hoppa are showing what we can bring to the table together I knew we had to level up and make it happen. Let’s just say It feels good to finally lock in with another west coast legend and I hope this record reminds people that we all have the same 24 hours. Any and everything can be done if you apply yourself. #StillMovin”
