Tyga’s ‘Ay Caramba’ Apology Interview Sparks Protest After Videos Surface Of Interviewer Calling Black People “Coons” and “Ghetto N*ggers”

Tyga Reunites With Kardashians at 'On The Run' Concert

Tyga recently apologized for the Mexican community for his “Ay Caramba” music video in an interview with American Cholo podcast host Gil Tejada. However, the interview was taken down and has since sparked a protest of the radio station after video surfaced of Tejada calling Black people “ghetto coons” and “n*ggers.”

Yesterday, film director Tariq Nasheed took to IG to call for a protest in front of the Power 106 station. “The community is #PullingUp outside #Power106 #radio station in #Los Angeles tomorrow (Weds. Aug 3rd) to call them out for giving a platform to anti-Black racists. If you are in #LA, everyone come thru,” he wrote.

Following backlash from the Mexican community for his “Ay Caramba” music video, Tyga had sat down with American Cholo podcast host Gil Tejada where the the host was able to speak to Tyga about how racially insensitive the video was. On his own podcast, Tejada blasted Tyga and even called for violence against the west coast rapper.

The interview itself was taken down by Power 106 after a video surfaced of interviewer Gil Tejada calling Black people “ghetto coons” and “n*ggers.” Tejada even pulled up on No Jumper podcast host Adam22 to tell him to take the video down.

However, after the video was taken down by Power 106, the station failed to issue an apology to the Black community for giving a platform to Tejada despite his racist and derogatory remarks.

“I had no intentions to offend anybody,” Tyga said in his interview. “If people are offended, I really apologize. If I do a show, 50 percent of the crowd on he west coast is Mexican. If they’re hurt, I’m hurt.”

Tyga added, “At the end of the day, I’m not Mexican, so I can’t say what Mexicans are offended by or not. But I know I had no intentions of offending anybody. For one, I want to apologize to the Mexican community and my fans that are Mexican. I have a lot of Latin fans that are Puerto Rican, Dominican, that probably weren’t offended by this video. But my Mexicans fans in L.A., there definitely was some that were offended.”

Tyga Addresses Offensive “Ay Caramba” Video In Interview

Tyga has addressed the offensive new music video “Ay Caramba” and apologizes to the Mexican American community. “The American Cholo” podcaster took to Instagram and shared a clip of a recent interview with Tyga where he owns up to offending the Mexican community captioned: “We have been heard and I truly hope @tyga listens to […]

Tyga Offers An Apology To The Mexican-American Community For The ‘Ay Caramba’ Video

Tyga found himself in some hot water a few weeks ago after the release of his “Ay Caramba” video. Specifically, members of the Mexican-American community took issue with the “racist caricatures,” as the “Rack City” artist is shown wearing a fat suit while eating chips and guacamole. While many artists might have opted to ignore the backlash and keep it moving, fortunately, the rapper took the time to sit down with the Power 106 Los Angeles and Gil from the American Cholo podcast to apologize.

Tyga first expressed his sympathy, saying “I had no intentions of offending anybody… I want to apologize to the Mexican community, and my fans that are Mexican.” He then went on to tell Gil and the LA Leakers team he was initially confused because his true vision for the video was a spoof of Nutty Professor starring Eddie Murphy.

“I was really just confused, I wasn’t making this video to be offensive, I was really making this video to be creative. The whole concept of the video was just different Latin things, it wasn’t like a Mexican-themed video. The character is just me in a fat suit, the character is not even Mexican. This character was literally a reference from … Nutty Professor. There’s a scene from Nutty Professor where he has the same kind of sweat suit on.”

Gil asked the 32-year-old if he would be willing to take the video down, which Tyga said he would be open to but would need to think further. The damage is already done, but perhaps there is some room for reconciliation in the near future.

Tyga’s Over-The-Top ‘Ay Caramba’ Video Is Ridiculous In The Best Way

Over the past couple of years, it seems like Tyga has been on an ongoing quest to become the most popular ese in East LA. First, he popped up on YG’s “Go Loko” in 2019, and it seems he enjoyed the mariachi vibes so much, he kept going, following up with “Mamacita” (which also featured YG as well as the legend himself, Carlos Santana), then “Ayy Macarena” (featuring the duo responsible for the original monster hit, Los Del Rio), and now, he keeps the Latin party going with “Ay Caramba.” His latest Spanglish-accented single is accompanied by a video that can only truly be described as “ridiculous” — but in the best way.

Tyga in a fat suit? Check. Tyga with a foot-long mustache? Check. Tyga as a freaking luchador? Check. This video has it all. Tyga really leans into Mexican pop culture archetypes and looks very much like he’s having the time of his life doing so. It’s nice when rappers don’t take themselves so seriously. Tyga’s rhymes on the track, though, let you know that he hasn’t given himself completely to self-parody. Among the things prompting Bart Simpson’s signature exclamation throughout the song: a “big ol’ Glock on the hip,” a woman who “remind me of Tabasco,” and his Porsche when he “press on the turbo.”

Although he’s flown under the radar for a while now, the Compton-claiming rapper has become a pretty reliable supplier of worthwhile party raps, including “Run” with YG and BIA, “Freaky Deaky” with Doja Cat, and “Mrs. Bubblegum,” which has its own hilariously tongue-in-cheek video.

YG recently has hit the mark of 10 billion career streams and 2 billion views on YouTube. To keep the momentum going, the West Coast legend has dropped off his new single and video for “Run” featuring Tyga, 21 Savage, and BIA.

The video opens with YG and Tyga prepping for a heist, pulling off their best impression of The Wayans’ White Chicks to get the job done. The robbery leads to a chase through Calabasas and a bunch of other wild moments.

You can see the video and hear the bars from the quartet of rap stars below.

YG Is On The ‘Run’ With Tyga, BIA, And 21 Savage In Their Mischievous New Video

It’s very possible that YG could give us his third project in as many years with the impending release of his sixth solo album. He concluded 2021 with the release of “Sign Language,” accompanied by a sunny video strapped with lowriders. After that, he returned alongside J. Cole and Moneybagg Yo on “Scared Money,” a track he later performed with the latter rapper on The Tonight Show. There’s no word on when YG’s sixth album will arrive, or even what it will be called, but we’re taking one more step towards it with his new single “Run” which places YG alongside Tyga, BIA, and 21 Savage.

On the new track, the four rappers speak about their mischievous lives while flexing their flashy spending and partying habits. In its matching video, YG and Tyga appear as a notorious criminal duo known as the Calabasas Sisters. They rob and bank away and make a run for it as BIA and 21 Savage help to make sure that their getaway is successful.

YG’s latest track arrives after he teamed up with Mozzy for their collaboration project Kommunity Service last summer. That project was a brief one with just ten songs but it also flaunted appearances from Blxst, Ty Dolla Sign, Young M.A, G Herbo, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Tyga, and others. As for YG’s last solo project, that arrived back in 2020 with My Life 4Hunnid, a 13-track effort strapped with appearances from Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Tyga, Lil Tjay, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Mosey, Calboy, and more.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Tyga And YG Will Cosplay As The Kardashians In Their Upcoming ‘Run’ Video

Who had YG and Tyga getting fully made-up as The Kardashians on their 2022 bingo card? Nobody? Ok. Well, it’s officially a thing as this looks to be the motif for the vieo for YG’s new song, “Run,” which is dropping on Friday, June 24 at midnight. In a teaser clip for the video posted by YG to his Instagram feed, the pair have gone full White Chicks and it’s well, pretty ridiculous.

The pair sit in the cleanest convertible Ferrari you’ve ever seen as “Run” starts to play on the radio. YG is in the driver seat rocking a blonde wig, presumably indicating that he is Khloé Kardashian, while Tyga rides shotgun in black hair with big sunglasses a la Kim. Tyga… err, Kim fixes their hair, while YG/Khloé dances to the tune and says, ““Calabasas forever!,” referencing where the Kardashian’s family home is located. Tyga — who seems really into the cosplay — then looks in the vanity mirror to touch-up his make-up and lipstick, before giving the camera a “blue steel” look.

The pair must have no doubt spent literal hours in a makeup chair to become the Kardashians and it’s unexpected to say the least. “Run” is also set to feature Bia and 21 Savage, and drops Friday at midnight. There’s no word yet on whether it will be included on YG’s upcoming album, Pray For Me, but the clip above certainly does it’s job: piquing curiosity for the full video this Friday.
