Coheed And Cambria’s Frontman Claudio Sanchez Thinks They Could Put On A Unique Concert In Fortnite

Coheed and Cambria’s frontman, Claudio Sanchez, surprisingly is not the kind of person to embrace being personable with others. In an interview with the Washington Post, Sanchez dove deep into how he has been using Twitch as a way to embrace being a little more open with fans of his band. It is a really interesting example of a star in a completely different industry using something like Twitch as practice for their main career.

Amidst the interview though, Sanchez did drop one really interesting tidbit about his game of choice, Fortnite. Sanchez has seen other stars of music, such as Ariana Grande, get virtual Twitch concerts and while he’s not demanding that Epic Games put his band into Fortnite, he thinks Coheed and Cambria could put on a pretty unique show.

“I don’t know if we’re at that place where ‘Fortnite’ would be like, ‘Yeah, let’s throw a Coheed and Cambria concert,’” said Sanchez. “That being said, I think we do have all the assets to create something pretty interesting with ‘The Amory Wars,’ the ‘Vaxis’ story, characters, music. There’s something there I think we have that others might not.”

While Fortnite has never publicly considered Coheed and Cambria, that is something they may want to reconsider because they have a hardcore fanbase that would absolutely turn out for a virtual concert. It would also be an opportunity for Epic Games to break out into doing something a little different with their in-game concerts. So far they’ve mainly focused on showing huge megastars like Grande, but maybe with a little variety, we could have a chance at an entire music festival being hosted in-game.

As for Sanchez, anyone interested in catching him on Twitch needs to do it while he’s actually live. He doesn’t keep VODs or upload his streams to YouTube so it really is one of those “had to be there” moments whenever he does something.

Post Malone Will Play ‘Apex Legends’ On Four ‘Gaming For Love’ Charity Livestream Events

Post Malone loves gaming in all its forms, whether he’s playing party games like beer pong, card games like Magic The Gathering, or video games like Pokémon. Now, Malone is going to try his hand at being a video game streamer with a run of charity livestreams.

Dubbed “Gaming For Love,” the streams are scheduled to take place on July 18, 20, 22, and 24 on Malone’s Twitch, with each stream starting at 6 p.m. PT and set to run for six hours apiece. During that time, Posty and pals will be playing Apex Legends, and Apex developer Respawn Entertainment will be donating $10,000 during each stream. Viewer donations will benefit different non-profits for each broadcast: Human Rights Watch (July 18), Project HOPE (July 20), United Way (July 22), and The Trevor Project (July 24).

Malone said in a statement, “Tune in as I game for love & raise money for Human Rights Watch, United Way, Project HOPE, & The Trevor Project. And shout out to Apex Legends & Respawn Entertainment for their support. Donate & spread love.”

Video game livestreams have proven to be an effective way to raise money for worthwhile causes: The recent Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) event, which ran from June 26 to July 3, raised over $3 million for Doctors Without Borders. Meanwhile, this year’s Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), which took place from January 9 to 16, brought in over $3.4 million (the most ever for a GDQ event) for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Chloe x Halle Are Facing Off In A 90-Minute Twitch Livestream To Encourage Women In Gaming

Looks like there’s absolutely nothing Chloe x Halle Bailey can’t do. These sisters have been Beyonce’s proteges for years now, and broke out in a big way in 2020 with their second album, The Ungodly Hour. Since then, Chloe Bailey has launched her own solo career with the single “Have Mercy,” and Halle landed a starring role as Ariel herself in new live action The Little Mermaid remake. Not too shabby for a few pandemic years! But they won’t stop there, now the sisters are getting involved in the gaming world, and advocating for more women in the male-dominated and historically sexist space.

In an attempt to combat some of the past toxicity, LG is launching a content series as part of its Only On OLED campaign. Chloe and Halle will face off in a live streamed Twitch battle and during their 90-minute match the sisters will be joined by Evil Geniuses Creator Collective stars Lisa Wallen and Aruuu. “We want to encourage women to get involved, learn more, support and take over gaming!” said Chloe of the collaboration. No exact info has been shared on what games the sisters will be competing against each other in, but in the practice snippets from above, they’re driving cars — so definitely some races. Check out the teaser above and look out for the live stream tonight at 7:30 PM EST.

Twitch Announces A Streaming Partnership With T-Pain With ‘I’m Cool With That’

T-Pain was on Twitch well before it was cool. While Twitch had been in use for years among video game fans, it was not a place that celebrities typically hung out like it is now. These days it’s not uncommon for famous athletes, actors, or musicians to be seen hanging out on Twitch playing a game and interacting with their community. T-Pain, on the other hand, was doing it originally as just something to do in his free time. He’d play games, show off new music, and just hang out.

These days, Twitch is almost as much of a job as his music career for him. He’s an extremely popular streamer with thousands of people tuning into his streams live or watching the VODs after he’s wrapped up. Twitch saw his popularity and got in contact with him. Now, T-Pain and Twitch have formed a partnership where his presence on the site will be even more visible. He’s kicking off his partnership with an exclusive listening party on his Twitch channel for his new single “I’m Cool With That.”

“This partnership means that I have been seen,” T-Pain said. “With so little representation on the service previously, the fact that Twitch came to me means that they actually see our community and understand the value of our contribution to the streaming world. We’ve been hosting beat battles and collaborative sessions for years… ‘I’m Cool With That’ is a combination of some of those efforts and was the first song created and released with my community, and I hope this is just the start of a journey Twitch and I are about to go on to uplift and strengthen the music community on Twitch.”

The upcoming listening party will be where T-Pain further breaks down the new track and shares details about other aspects of his partnership, such as monthly “Post Ya Song” and “Post Ya Beat” reviews from community producers. It’s really cool to see this kind of opportunity for T-Pain considering that he was one of the first well-known names to really embrace Twitch. Now he has a partnership and his community gets to watch his streams become even bigger.

This is another big step for Twitch as well, as the platform continues to try and show it’s for more than just video games. Twitch will always be about video games first and foremost, but the platform has not shied away from growing to become something even bigger. Lucky for them, T-Pain not only represents the video game side of the platform but the music side as well. He’s the perfect choice for this partnership.

Here’s How To Stream This Weekend’s Outside Lands Festival On Twitch For Free

Outside Lands Festival 2021 is going down this weekend from October 29 to 31 at San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Park. The headlining slate includes The Strokes, Lizzo, Tame Impala and Tyler The Creator, but queue the sad trombone, because it’s totally sold out. Now put that sad trombone away and turn that frown upside down because Outside Lands has just announced their partnership with Twitch to bring an eclectic multi-channel livestream broadcast of the festival to all you fine folks at home for the friendly price of free forty free. While you can’t experience the cannabis wonderland that is Grasslands from your couch, you can still turn your living room into a front row seat to the festival with the Outside Lands Twitch channel.

In addition to live performances, the programming presented by iconic San Francisco-based jeans and clothing powerhouse Levi’s, will also feature backstage interviews hosted by buzzy Twitch steamer Hannah Rad and “surprise guest host appearances throughout the weekend.” There’s also other “special programming” promised, which hopefully includes a tour of one of the best locally-focused food and drink slates of any festival on the circuit. The livestreaming lineup/schedule is set to be announced soon.

Why Are Black Twitch Creators Missing from Its Top 100 Earners?

Black Twitch

Twitch is facing heavy backlash as a new anonymous data leak has revealed that the platform’s top earners are all white. Following the ongoing battle between streamers of color and other underrepresented backgrounds with “hate raids,” this is yet another example of a systemic infrastructure on social media that is harmful to black creators. Metallica’s Twitch Concert Audio Was Apparently Replaced With 8-Bit Music To Avoid Copyright Issues

Metallica played a concert to kick off BlizzCon on Twitch, but apparently not everyone got to actually hear the music they were playing at the online event. The first day of the annual Blizzard event streamed on Twitch on Friday night, and with it came a special performance by Metallica. But the actual audio that played on some channels got caught up in one of the music issues that often plagues streaming content.

On Friday, Twitter lit up with videos from the performance where, instead of Metallica classics, nondescript 8-bit music seemed to be playing instead.

And it wasn’t a dub; multiple people shared clips of varying length where Metallica is clearly on the Twitch channel but some other music is playing. Though that moment spread online like wildfire, it apparently wasn’t what happened on the main Blizzard Twitch page. Rather, it was the front page of Twitch Gaming which had to replace the music.

Still, it’s an interesting bit of irony at the complicated state of Twitch and the music copyright issues that often plague the platform. And as many people pointed out, DCMA takedowns are an issue in internet content creation that came directly from Metallica’s decades-old fight with Napster that set the tone for music copyrights.

No one seemed to have any sympathy for Metallica here, mostly because they’ve dealt with these sorts of issues in the past. Anyone who has streamed a video game that has original music in it has likely encountered takedown or muting issues, and game makers have had to introduce music elimination options to help streamers prevent their content from getting taken down.

It’s unlikely the moment will change much of anything, but it certainly felt like things came full circle on Friday night.
