Blueface & Soulja Boy Beef Over “Verzuz” Battle Claims

Things are heating up between Blueface and Soulja Boy. Recently, the former Cr*zy In Love star claimed he’d beat the “Crank That” performer in a Verzuz battle. Soulja didn’t take kindly to his claims, firing back during an Instagram Live. According to the Chicago-born artist, all Blueface would do in the battle is perform his 2018 hit “Thotiana” five times.

This isn’t the first time someone’s come at Blueface claiming that’s the only song they know by him, however. Funny Marco made a similar insinuation during their interview this week, nearly prompting the LA native to cut the conversation short. In a new clip, Soulja Boy is seen telling Funny Marco to set up an interview with him, and demanding that an actual Verzuz battle between him and Blueface be arranged.

Soulja Boy On Blueface Versuz Battle

According to him, there’s no way the father of three could go up against his collection of hits. Unfortunately, his claims prompted a passionate response from Blueface, who then decided to mention the mother of Soulja Boy’s child. “I hit yah Bm already soulja boy ask her who perform better hit for hit,” he wrote alongside a laughing emoji earlier today. “I ain’t never told one lie he naming all these people he got songs with he don’t even know me an his Bm made a whole album… My d*ck is bigger than yours.”

He continued his Twitter spree, later claiming that Soulja’s mention of Jaidyn Alexis is what really set him off. “When I heard the word ‘Jaidyn’ come out his mouth now that’s where he f*cked up at that ones going to cost you every time,” he wrote. “I turn to a s*vage bout Jaidyn.”

Blueface Reflects On Life Changing Cardi B Feature On “Thotiana”

Blueface has been everywhere in the past few months just as people claimed that he fell off. Though it’s true, he isn’t releasing music at the same rate as he once did. Also, people don’t necessarily recognize him for his artistic output. At one point, he was recognized as one of the hottest rappers to come out of California. However, that momentum died down significantly in recent times, especially once he began dating Chrisean Rock and turned into a reality star.

Ultimately, Blueface did what most rappers do when the hype begins to dwindle – leap into reality TV. Blue Girls Club and Crazy In Love‘s success propelled him to the forefront of headlines every single week. Some might feel as though he abandoned his career. Still, none of the success he had in recent times would’ve happened without his hit record, “Thotiana,” which later earned a remix featuring Cardi B.

Blueface On Cardi B Feature

At the time “Thotiana” began to gain a buzz, Blueface delivered impromptu concerts at high schools in the Los Angeles area. However, the success of the song eventually led to a Billboard top 10 single for Blueface, which wouldn’t have happened without an appearance from Cardi B. The rapper took to Instagram this weekend where he reflected on how Cardi landed on the song and the impact it had on his career.

“When I got that cardi feature I never spoke with her prior to the studio session or recording of the music video everything was done from management to management to ensure professional business no money was exchanged for anything because it made cents for everyone no leverage,” he wrote. “That feature changed my life fasho that’s the only way we doing business in 2023,” he added in another tweet. It’s no doubt that the Cardi B co-sign eventually led to collaborations with other rappers, such as Offset and Snoop Dogg, down the line. Though it’s unclear if Blueface will release another project in the near future, there’s no doubt that he had a firm grip on hip-hop when “Thotiana” dropped.  Check out his tweets above.

Blueface Talks About Working With Cardi B On The ‘Thotiana’ Remix For ‘How I Blew Up’

2018 was only four years, which somehow feels both like just yesterday and a lifetime ago. A lot has happened since then, making it easier than ever to forget that it was the year that helped to launch some of today’s biggest names in rap music, including Cardi B, Travis Scott, and Blueface. The latter’s “Thotiana,” which dominated radio and playlists for much of the year, was a controversial hit, inspiring as many detractors as imitators, but its impact is clear in nearly every syllable-packed single that bubbles up from the LA underground scene.

For the latest edition of Uproxx’s How I Blew Up, the Mid-City native stops by the studio to explain his recording process, reveal the moment he first knew “Thotiana” was a hit, and recall working with future No. 1-selling artist Cardi B on the song’s remix. He also explains how he fell into the “off-beat” style of rapping that became his signature, saying, “The inspiration was no inspiration.” And while that quirky rhythmic approach received its fair share of side-eyes in 2018, many of the buzzy names that followed — names like 1TakeJay, AzChike, BlueBucksClan, Remble, and more — have clearly taken the baton and run with it.

2018 was a long time ago, but at the same time, it wasn’t that long ago, either. Blueface has since proven he’s no one-hit-wonder, but he’s also still just getting started. Check out the latest episode of How I Blew Up above.
