TDE Punch Clears Up Ab-Soul And J Cole Rumors With Important Clarification About “Pi”

TDE Punch has clarified that J Cole’s song, “Pi,” was recorded long before Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Metro Boomin dropped “Like That,” earlier this year. In response to HipHopDX’s Jeremy Hecht, Punch shot down rumors that Cole included him on the song intentionally to diss Kendrick Lamar.

Hecht had written: “Ab-Soul threw jabs at J. Cole after Cole did him dirty by adding him & Daylyt to a song with a verse dissing Kendrick on ‘Pi’ – this is a question for rap fans. Cole dropped out with Kendrick but he still claims his pen is unmatched. Does he have to engage w Soul to prove it?” As fans begin debating the validity of the theory, Punch replied: “I hate to clear up rumors, I usually let them fester and see how far they go, but ALL verses on Pi were recorded long before Like That.”

Afterward, Hecht added: “Glad Punch clarified but just so everyone knows… I wasn’t making that theory up out of thin air.. Glasses Malone who is close to all of those people said on a livestream that Cole recorded that verse later and that Soul didn’t hear it. I was basing things off that.” With the release of “Like That,” Lamar shook up the entirety of hip-hop by dissing both Cole and Drake. While Cole quickly bowed out of the feud, Lamar and Drake traded numerous diss tracks in the following months.

Additionally, Cole reflected on the feud in his song, “Port Antonio,” last week. Be on the lookout for further updates on Ab-Soul, J Cole, and Kendrick Lamar on HotNewHipHop.

TDE’s Punch Questions Elliott Wilson’s Edit Of Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet The Grahams”

Kendrick Lamar has removed copyright from almost every other person, page, account, content channel, or reactor posting his recent Drake diss tracks online… except for one. Moreover, Elliott Wilson had taken to Twitter with an edited version of his haunting song “Meet The Grahams” without the verse claiming that Drizzy has a secret daughter. Then, he expressed surprise when he realized that the copyright owner disabled the media on Twitter, for which people have many theories. TDE’s president Punch had some words on the matter, and his statement on the edit is fueling other ideas as to why K.Dot would’ve wanted to take that down.

Why would you request for it to be edited anyway? Did you ask for edits on anything else?” Punch asked Elliott Wilson, who invited him for a conversation in the replies on Twitter. Moreover, this lends credence to the speculative idea that Kendrick Lamar wants to keep the original version of the song intact because, even though his allegations are unverified, so are many of Drake’s and ones on other of his own tracks. As such, Punch seems to be pointing at an apparent double standard in this beef that Wilson probably did not intend in the first place.

Punch Reacts To Elliott Wilson’s Kendrick Lamar Edit

Regardless, the damage is there, and Kendrick Lamar and Drake seem no closer to providing proof on one another or burying the hatchet at any point in the future. Perhaps the battle isn’t over yet despite what most folks are saying online, so we’ll see if this changes at any point. Of course, there are people like Freddie Gibbs who rightfully concluded that the only real winners in this beef were the record labels. Maybe this scuffle over an edit also speaks to how hip-hop media was able to shift and mold this battle in their image for their own gain or benefit, but we’re all complicit in that as fans.

Meanwhile, we can’t help but wonder how this whole situation will age. Will we ever remember this edited version of “Meet The Grahams,” and will “Not Like Us” keep its commercial staying power? No matter the case, this is going down in the history books one way or another. Kendrick Lamar and Drake went too hard, too quick, too low, and too impressively to not consider this one of the most memorable hip-hop moments of the past decade or so.

TDE Versus Young Money: Mack Maine Trolls Punch In Comical Back & Forth Over Drake Diss

The beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar (and frankly, half the mainstream hip-hop game) is putting almost everyone at odds, as everyone even remotely connected to either is expected to step up. However, it seems like some people are a little too quick to jump to either’s defense, which has resulted in some funny back-and-forth “disses” and responses from folks that clearly feel energized by the animosity. There was perhaps no better recent example of this than Young Money president Mack Maine trolling TDE co-president Punch on Twitter. The labels are clearly here for all the drama, but the former is particularly looking for the smoke.

“12 hour flight!” Punch tweeted on Friday evening (April 12), and Mack Main quote-tweeted over a day later with: “You still on the [plane emoji]?” alluding to the leaked Drake diss driving everyone wild. “Nah I’m the ground [sic]. What’s good?” the TDE boss responded. “I’m in the trenches babbbyyy… just makin sure you made it safe #DropAndGimme50,” the Young Moolah honcho elaborated. Clearly taking the cue, Punch kept it up with his clap-back: “Appreciate you. Made to NZ safe and sound. SZA tryna convince me to go hiking but I ain’t really Like That,” he wrote.

Punch & Mack Maine Go Back & Forth Over Drake Diss

“#Barz but if you do go when you fall make sure you #DropAndGimme50 ya heard me!!” Mack Maine responded. “I was just checkin on ya tho… You usually get ya @stephenasmith & @RealSkipBayless on… you was real quiet today ain’t know if yall had wifi on the [plane emoji]… Enjoy NZ.” 20 minutes later, he was too impatient to wait for a response, and the New Orleans native double-tweeted. “PS Da Canadian got nikkaz leavin [U.S. flag emoji] and it ain’t been 24 hours… Lil weaux [plane emoji] to New Zealand to go hiking you could’ve did that in Runyon weaux #DontSNOOZEandMissDaMoment #DropAndGimme50.” “Wait… are you trying to get a rise out of me Mack Maine?” Punch responded, to which Maine quote-tweeted with a simple pause emoji.

J Cole’s Kendrick Lamar Apology: Reason & Punch From TDE React

Just a few days ago, J Cole shocked the hip-hop world by dropping off a new project called Might Delete Later. This new project just so happened to contain a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar, called “7 Minute Drill.” Overall, the diss track contained mixed reviews. Many felt it was weak, while others thought it was a good way of scrutinizing Kendrick’s body of work. However, Cole has undone his diss. On Sunday night at Dreamville Festival, Cole offered an apology to Kendrick. As it turns out, writing the diss track had him feeling awful.

“I’m so proud of that project except for one part,” Cole said. “There’s one part of that sh*t that makes me feel like, ‘Man, that’s the lamest sh*t I ever did in my f*cking life.’ And, I know this is not what a lot of people wanna hear. I can hear my n****s up there right now like, ‘Nah, don’t do that.’ But, I gotta keep it 100 with y’all. I damn near had a relapse.” This prompted reactions from TDE members such as Punch and Reason. As you can see, they weren’t so amused.

J Cole Elicits Strong Reactions

Punch took to Twitter where he simply wrote “lol.” Meanwhile, Reason said “idk man, i just…idk.” This is in line with how many other hip-hop fans are thinking right now. At the end of the day, Cole probably should have just stood on his diss track. Instead, we got an apology that could very well be legacy-threatening. Only time will tell how long it takes before fans forget that this ever happened.

Let us know what you think of the J Cole apology, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this was a big mistake from Cole? Do you think the rap world is actually that scared of Kendrick Lamar? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

TDE’s Punch Reacts To J Cole Dissing Kendrick Lamar & “To Pimp A Butterfly”

Well, rap’s newest cold war just turned into an all-out battlefield with J Cole’s diss against Kendrick Lamar, “7 Minute Drill,” on his surprise mixtape Might Delete Later. In it, the Dreamville boss took aim at the former TDE lyricist’s discography, his often absent and inconsistent presence in the hip-hop game, and some other hot takes. Of course, fans are reacting wildly to this online, opening up a lot of debates as Cole seems to claim the genre’s throne in the present day. In fact, there are even a couple of folks within the music industry which have given their thoughts on it already, including a very close partner on the affected side.

“SMH. I thought to pimp a butterfly was pretty good,” Punch expressed on Twitter, thus resulting in the first official response adjacent to Kendrick Lamar’s camp, specifically from TDE’s president. Furthermore, this lines up with K.Dot’s own diss against J. Cole and Drake on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That,” on which he took aim at their artistry above all. In addition, this is a curious claim from the North Carolina MC, considering that he and Kendrick collaborated on the “Black Friday” singles shortly after To Pimp A Butterfly and 2014 Forest Hills Drive‘s releases. Specifically, Cole said that TPAB “put n***as to sleep,” which was probably the hottest take on “7 Minute Drill” in many fans’ eyes.

Punch Reacts To J Cole’s TPAB Diss Against Kendrick Lamar

J. Cole rapped over the beat for Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” on these “Black Friday” singles, easily one of the biggest tracks off of TPAB. While that has little bearing now, he also made it very clear that he doesn’t have any real beef with Mr. Morale (who’s no longer on TDE), but that he’ll bar up if need be. However, some fans are also pointing out that most of Kendrick’s disses on “Like That” were more directed at Drake than at Cole. As such, fans are still waiting on an official response from the Toronto superstar more closely, although that seems more like an improbability with each passing day.

With all this in mind, what do you think about the “7 Minute Drill” diss and these reactions to it? Who do you think will come out on top at the end of the day, and will the “Savior” spitter fire back? Whatever the case, drop your thoughts down in the comments section below. TDE’s Punch Says Rap Is Becoming More “Demonic”

TDE president Punch has some thoughts about “demonic influences” in Hip-Hop. On Sunday (August 27), the label exec hopped on Twitter to address the state of the music industry today. In his opinion, demonism has become more and more prevalent. “The demonic influence is getting more and more blatant in this thing,” he wrote. “The gradualism was numbing, now it’s just out loud.”

2cool2blog went on to share the post on its official Instagram account. Judging by the comment section, fans seem to agree. “It took this post for some of y’all to realize it’s demonic spiritual warfare running rampant through music right now??” one person commented. Another person added, “[target emoji]…but y’all still gon be in these comments defending your favorite artists and making excuses. smh open your eyes!”

Moreover, the multi-hyphenate is not a man who minces his words. After DJ Akademiks made some disparaging remarks about SZA, he wasted no time clapping back at him. “Man I’ve been so conflicted the [past] couple of days as to address this dude publicly or not,” he expressed. “I’m not playing no internet games… He have to answer for those disrespectful things he said about SZA,” he wrote in a now-deleted Twitter post. However, the social media personality seemingly feels no way about it.

“None of y’all are Suge Knight,” he says in a recent livestream. “You don’t strike fear in my heart. There is no, ‘Oh my God, he’s going to get me!’ I did content about the biggest killers in the world in Chicago. I’ve talked about the worst people you could imagine… I won’t be sitting here scared of an older n***a who claims he’s a ‘thug.’ Mr. Punch from TDE, you didn’t have to delete your tweet.” He added, “I’m not scared of you. I don’t know nobody that’s scared of you and I don’t know nobody that would think you be doing nothing. So please, pipe down, and rather than delete the tweet, don’t send the tweet. Because if you look at my tweet history, I leave them up for all to see.”

DJ Akademiks Accuses Punch Of TDE Of Trying To “Suge Knight” Him Over SZA Rant

DJ Akademiks recently inspired the ire of the Internet for going on an impassioned, bizarre, and fat-shaming rant against SZA. If he thought he could do so without getting targeted by her label, TDE, then he was sorely mistaken. Moreover, its president Punch tweeted and deleted a message for the social media personality. “Man I’ve been so conflicted the [past] couple of days as to address this dude publicly or not,” he expressed. “I’m not playing no internet games… He have to answer for those disrespectful things he said about SZA.”

Then, DJ Akademiks responded to Punch’s remarks while streaming on Rumble, and didn’t hold back. “None of y’all are Suge Knight,” the former Complex host started his clap-back. Punch from TDE, you didn’t have to delete your tweet.

DJ Akademiks’ Rant Against TDE’s Punch

“I’m not scared of you,” Akademiks continued. “I don’t know nobody that’s scared of you and I don’t know nobody that would think you be doing nothing. So please, pipe down, and rather than delete the tweet, don’t send the tweet. Because if you look at my tweet history, I leave them up for all to see.” Also, he called Punch a hypocrite for his “lightweight coded threat,” and assessed it as “received, laughed at, and sent back.” “This is why we’re laughing: you’re tweeting [about how] you’re not playing internet games while you’re tweeting it!” Ak continued. “This is why I said y’all are not Suge Knight. Suge Knight wouldn’t give a nice proper warning and then delete the tweet. I don’t think he’d tweet at all.

“We’re not scared of none of you n***as,” the streamer concluded. “Listen, you guys have some great artists and I’m hoping you guys can put out music a little more frequently, just as the fan in me speaking. Put your record out, be quiet. That’s about it… Stop acting gangster online. If you was gonna do something, you wouldn’t tweet it. Stop it, brother, please. You look pathetic. And by the way, I don’t want a response for this neither. Work your record, you’re a record executive. Yeah, you got a couple gangsters on payroll. Whoop de doo! We’re all millionaires. Everybody could pay for some d*mb s**t to get done. You don’t wanna die, I don’t wanna die. You don’t wanna go to jail, I don’t wanna go to jail. Shut up with your tweeting.” For more on Punch, DJ Akademiks, and SZA, stick around on HNHH.

TDE Punch Responds To Reason’s Complaints: “Mean Ol’ Label Narrative Is Getting Stale”

Punch has responded to Reason’s recent rant about being signed to TDE and says that the narrative of labels being the villains is “getting stale.” Reason made the original comments during an episode of BACKONFIGG. During the interview, TDE co-president Anthony “Moosa” Tiffith Jr. called into the stream and the two got into an argument.

“That big bad mean ol label narrative is getting stale,” Punch wrote on Twitter, Tuesday afternoon. When asked how he felt about Moosa getting involved, he explained: “I’m never cool with discussing things publicly that should be discussed in private. BUT if things are being brought to the public then everyone should get a chance to state their truth on a subject.”

Reason also commented on the situation on Twitter, thanking his supporters for reaching out. “I appreciate ppl that’s reached out to me,” he wrote. “Trust I’m as good as I can be. We’ll have a real convo at some point about what happened, just trust that wasn’t a “rollout move” lol that actually happened! All positive energy as of now moving forward tho! Porches Friday! Love y’all!” As for the original complaints, Reason admitted he was unhappy with the rollout process for his new album, Porches. He claimed that TDE dropped the ball when it came to getting EST Gee and Latto on the project.

Punch Addresses Reason’s Complaints

He explained: “It was a few different things. I had Latto lined up for something, not executed. I had EST Gee lined up, not executed. Like, us not pushing through. Features lined up, we got a price set, video and verse for the love, takes too long. I’ll speak on the EST Gee shit specifically — took too long to get through to EST Gee and his people and be like, ‘Yo, this is what we wanna do.’ By the time we ended up connecting with him and reaching out, he dropped a record with Future and the record went cr*zy. Now, the feature is $25,000 more than what it already was.”

SZA Has Enough Rap Records For An EP, Says TDE’s Punch

SZA’s sophomore effort was expected to be a success, but the reaction even took Terrence “Punch” Henderson slightly by surprise. It had been years since SZA released a new full-length album, but it was clear that the anticipation was getting to the hitmaker. For years, she repeatedly took to social media to voice her frustrations with her label. Punch took many of those hits, especially from fans who questioned him about SZA’s second project’s delay. He sat down with Rap Radar and spoke about the songbird’s release, as well as her evolution under the Top Dawg umbrella.

“I think she adjusting a lot better now,” Punch shared with the podcast in an intimate interview. “I think it’s finally starting to set in as to what’s going on and who she is. Like, for the longest, I don’t feel she connected who SZA is to Solána. But I think now, she’s starting to see it, to understand.” It’s something that even SZA acknowledged in a tweet where she claimed Punch told her she was losing herself.

SZA Crosses Genre Lines

A highlight of S.O.S. was the singer testing genre boundaries and stepping out of her R&B box. “She’s always bended the genre, so it wasn’t nothing new,” said Punch. “It was just going, pushing it further.” He then disclosed that it isn’t just alternative music that SZA is interested in. “Like she doing full Rap records now… She got like maybe—she got like an EP’s worth of full Rap records. Like all the way out, no singing.”

The revelation has stirred the singer’s fans, who are always in the mood for more SZA. In a profile interview with Billboard, Punch echoed his sentiments, praising his artist for her expansive reach. “SZA is a force. To go seven consecutive weeks at No. 1 is legendary,” he said of her accomplishment. “She’s a true generational artist, a cultural reset, if you will.”

“For her album S.O.S to blend so many different genres together in a cohesive frame shows her genius and versatility,” he further stated. “Then you have the voice, the words, the pain, the growth, the relapsing, the delivery, the stories, etc. … a true masterpiece.” Check out Punch’s interview with Rap Radar above.

TDE’s Punch Shouts Out Doubters & SZA Fans Who “Stayed Patient” For “S.O.S.” Album

SZA dropped her second studio album S.O.S. earlier this month and is already enjoying the success of the highly-anticipated project. In addition to songs like “Kill Bill” and “Blind” going viral on social media, the album has also quickly climbed the charts, solidifying it as a solid follow-up to her Grammy-nominated 2017 album Ctrl.

Punch, president of Top Dawg Entertainment, recently took to his Twitter to acknowledge the album’s stats, admitting, “I never really focus on the numbers too much. Of course I pay attention to them, the quality of the art is always at the forefront for me. But these SOS numbers aren’t too shabby. Lol”

Showing gratitude to SZA’s fans who stayed patient while waiting for the album, Punch also gave a shout-out to the “doubters” in a follow-up tweet.

The record exec continued, “Shout out to the real fans who stayed down and stayed patient. Shout to TDE and the doubters who doubted us. Love y’all.”

“A few of y’all n****s had a lot to say… lol. I won’t bring it up. I see you,” the seasoned rapper then posted.

While sitting down with Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast, the St. Louis native opened up about feeling nervous about how S.O.S. would be perceived overall.

“If n****s hate it, then great. I can never do music again. And I told my engineer, we’ll move to India and we’ll live on an ashram and we’ll take a vow of silence and that’s it,” she told the outlet earlier this month.

“And it is also really scary that it didn’t go that way because I’m like, now what do I do? And what does this actually mean and when do the tides turn?” SZA then shared. “When does everyone decide that they hate me again or that this sucks? And that’s unhealthy. That’s something I need to talk to my therapist about.”
