Sabrina Ionescu Proud Of Performance Against Steph Curry, Hopes To Inspire Future Hoopers

Sabrina Ionescu had nothing but pride about her performance against Steph Curry in their All-Star three-point challenge. “I didn’t back down from the challenge and going up against the best shooter this game has ever seen — and shooting from the NBA line to show all those young kids to not be scared in doing something that has never been done before,” Ionescu told ESPN‘s Malika Andrews. Ionescu put up 26 points, matching the best scores from NBA talent like Damian Lillard. However, some clutch moneyball shooting from Curry sealed a close win for the Warrior legend. Furthermore, as Ionescu alluded to, she did it all from the NBA line, as opposed to the WNBA one.

Many fans hoped that the event would become a staple, potentially allowing for a rematch between Ionescu and Curry. After all, it was Curry who initially issued the challenge. Curry first proposed the idea while discussing Ionescu with his teammate, Brandon Podziemski. “I think I’ve got to challenge her. I think I gotta bring her out, we gotta settle this once and for all,” Curry told his rookie teammate. The veteran three-point star was referring to the fact that Ionescu had sunk 37 threes at last year’s WNBA All-Star Game. That surpassed Curry’s own All-Star Weekend record of 31.

Who Is Sabrina Ionescu?

Sabrina Ionescu is one of the hottest stars in the WNBA. She carved a legendary individual career for herself at Oregon, winning National Player of the Year in 2020 and finishing her career as the only NCAA player in history with 2000 points, 1000 assists, and 1000 rebounds. However, Ionescu was never able to capture an NCAA title. The closest she came was reaching the Final Four in 2019. Oregon were amongst the title favorites for the cancelled 2020 March Madness tournament.

After her standout career with the Ducks, Ionescu was the first overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft. However, her first years in the league were derailed by injury. However, now healthy, Ionescu is finally finding her form. She has made back-to-back all-star and all-WNBA second-team appearances. Furthermore, she reached the WNBA Finals in 2023 as part of a stack New York Liberty superteam. As long as injuries do not becoming a larger problem for her, Ionescu’s star will only continue to grow.

Steph Curry Outscores Sabrina Ionescu In 3-Point Shootout, Mac McClung Repeats As Dunk Champion

Steph Curry defeated Sabrina Ionescu in the first-ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-point contest on Saturday night during All-Star Weekend. Ionescu started her round on fire and finished with 26 points. The score tied for the highest for any NBA player in the night’s standard 3-point competition, which was won earlier in the night by Damian Lillard. Curry countered by making his final four straight Moneyball shots to close with 29 points.

“For us to deliver a show like that, it was perfect,” Curry said afterward. “As much excitement as you can build in that short amount of time with two great shooters going at it. This is something we’ll remember for a long time.” From there, it was Mac McClung’s night in the dunk contest.

The Osceola Magic guard became one of the few players in NBA history to repeat as a dunk contest champion. Zach LaVine, Nate Robinson, Jason Richardson, and Michael Jordan are the only other players to ever win two dunk contests in a row. To do so, he defeated Jaylen Brown in the final round with a 50-point dunk over Shaquille O’Neal. Check out highlights from the night below.

Stephen A. Smith Believes LeBron James Should Have Taken Warriors Trade

Stephen A. Smith questioned why LeBron James killed a potential deal that would have sent him to the Warriors at the trade deadline. Smith confirmed that the story first reported by his fellow ESPN colleagues was true but asked what it said about LeBron. “How happy is LeBron with the Lakers management?” Smith asked. However, he went on to say, “LeBron James. If there is one person on Earth you should want to play with, it’s Steph Curry”.

Per the original ESPN report, the efforts of the Warriors to acquire LeBron didn’t get past an initial phone call. Warriors owner Joe Lacob reached out directly to his Lakers counterpart Jeannie Buss. The deal was struck down by Buss and Rich Paul. LeBron’s agent. However, the Warriors were not the only team reportedly interested in LeBron. Earlier in the run-up to the deadline, the Sixers Daryl Morey reached out to Lakers GM Rob Pelinka. Morey wanted to enquire about LeBron’s availability after seeing his cryptic hourglass tweet. That conversation was quickly ended when Pelinka asked Morey whether Joel Embiid was available.

LeBron James Coy About Plans For Next Season

Meanwhile, following the trade deadline, LeBron had a very simple answer when asked if he had thought about what he was going to do with his player option year for next season – “No.” The veteran star gave the blunt answer following a Lakers shootaround ahead of their marquee clash against the Knicks. LeBron has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024/25 with a late-July opt-in deadline. That opt-in deadline comes a few days after the NBA Draft. As a result, many pundits believe LeBron will wait to see if and where his son Bronny is drafted.

However, the speculation and trade shutdown haven’t stopped people from making their trade pitches regardless. Smith caused a stir after using a segment on First Take to pitch a deadline trade between his Knicks and the Lakers to acquire LeBron James. Smith’s pitch was more based on the vibes of “LeBron at MSG” rather than how LeBron would actually make the Knicks a better team. Smith’s Knicks, who are playing without Julius Randle until after the All-Star break, are fourth in the East with a 33-21 record.

Anthony Davis, Steph Curry, and Jalen Brunson Headline NBA All-Star Reserves

The NBA All-Star reserves for the Eastern and Western Conferences were announced on Thursday, introducing a mix of rising talents and seasoned stars set to illuminate the midseason celebration in Indianapolis.

In the Eastern Conference, the seven reserves include first-time All-Stars Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, and Paolo Banchero, alongside more experienced players like Bam Adebayo, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell, and Julius Randle. Mitchell, with five selections, leads the pack in experience. Notably, each of the Celtics, Bucks, Sixers, and Knicks contributes two All-Stars between the starters and reserves.

Turning to the Western Conference, the reserves showcase a trio of former All-Star MVPs in Anthony Davis (2017), Kawhi Leonard (2020), and Stephen Curry (2022). The West boasts zero first-time All-Stars, with Anthony Edwards being the least experienced, earning his second selection. The seven players collectively hold an impressive 44 All-Star selections, averaging 6.29 per player. Notably, the Wolves, Suns, Lakers, and Clippers each contribute two All-Stars to the West roster, forming a formidable lineup for the All-Star festivities.

Steph Curry Pushes Warriors To Make Moves At Trade Deadline

Steph Curry has openly expressed his desire for the Warriors to pursue some season-altering moves before the upcoming trade deadline. “We have a standard that’s pretty evident that, if things stay the same, that’s the definition of insanity, right? Keep doing the same thing expecting a different result? So, as players and what we can do, we have to control our effort, our focus, competitiveness, control the things that we can on the court. Like any NBA season, every organization has stuff that works itself out, you can’t allow yourself to get distracted by that because, whether you’re top of the standings or the bottom, there’s always rumors swirling, there’s always conversations,” Curry said.

The Warriors are 17-20 and have just one win in their last four games. They currently sit 12th in the Western Conference, 1.5 games back from the Play-In Tournament. While they are expected to add Draymond Green back into the lineup next week, they must also play without Chris Paul until at least after the All-Star break.

Charles Barkley Warns Draymond Green Amid Warriors Return

Meanwhile, Charles Barkley has praised Draymond Green, but warned the veteran star to keep himself out of trouble. “It’s great to have Draymond back, great to have him back. He’s a very good player, he’s good for the NBA. I hope he gets rid of the antics because he’s a very good player and a good dude, but like I said, he’s got to stop putting himself in bad situations,” Barkley told TMZ.

Green himself said he was done with “antics” as he prepared to return to the Warriors after his 12-game suspension. “I’ve cost my team enough. I’ve cost this organization enough,” Green said Tuesday. After three-and-a-half weeks of therapy, Green acknowledged that has been able to see where he went wrong. “It was very easy to open myself up [to therapy] from a personal standpoint because I needed to gather myself, to recenter myself and to recalibrate. It’s hard to see things when you’re just in it, it’s hard to see what’s necessary to see,” Green said.

Jim Jones & Juelz Santana Question Steph & Klay’s “Splash Brothers” Title

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, arguably one of the greatest shooting duos in NBA history, are better known by their moniker: the Splash Brothers. However, apparently this claim is nothing new, according to some OG New York MCs. Moreover, Jim Jones and Juelz Santana took to social media on Thursday (December 21) to claim that they called themselves the Splash Bros long before either basketball player was in the Golden State Warriors. It’s unclear exactly what prompted this complaint after ten years under the title– at least, for Steph and Klay. It’s also different types of “splashing” here: the Dipset duo has the drip, and the four-time champions make it rain from 3 on the boards.

“The original Splash Bros,” Jim Jones exclaimed. “I don’t know what Steph and Klay was talking about, but we been splashing before they been balling. We got the receipts to show it. Right now, we trying to figure out who decides war. Stop playing with us. This ain’t fashion, this is splashing. Pardon the drip.” “Dipset, us,” Juelz Santana added in the video below. “You see me in the middle of Harlem.”

Jim Jones & Juelz Santana Call Out Steph Curry & Klay Thompson: Watch

Regardless of this, don’t think for a second that the likes of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson aren’t welcome in hip-hop. Never mind the endless lyrical references. The former in particular is even contributing to preserving an indelible cultural legacy in the game. His company Unanimous Media is producing an upcoming documentary on Mac Dre. It will chronicle the massive stamp he left behind on the Bay Area and West Coast hip-hop as a whole. It’s just one of many ways in which he’s been able to make a connection beyond pure association.

“Mac Dre is a cultural icon who made a tremendous impact on the Bay Area and beyond through his music and pioneering creativity,” Curry stated. “We’re honored to work with Mac Dre’s incredible mother, Wanda, to tell her son’s life story with respect and dignity for fans, the Bay Area community, and music lovers alike.” We’ll see how the Splash Brothers continue their dynamic– no matter which one you’re talking about. TikToker Roasted After Trying To Shame Steph Curry For “Ignoring” 8-Year-Old

A TikToker by the name of “swagifypromo” has found himself as the main character of SportsTok after trying to shame Steph Curry. The account posted a video claiming that his 8-year-old son had saved $2500 for courtside seats at a Warriors game so he could meet Steph Curry. However, the video shows Curry going to meet another family as the TikToker’s son quietly stands in the background with a jersey.

Despite this being perfect ragebait, people are more mad at the TikToker than Curry. “Entitled parents and kids,” reads one comment with over 11,000 likes. “How does an 8yr old save $2500? My 30yr old lives in my house,” another said with 15,000 likes. Furthermore, people took major issue with the original poster saying that NBA players had a “duty to serve the youth” and other bizarre phrases. Of course, there were a handful of people calling for Curry to make it right. However, a majority of the commenters have seen through Swagify’s attempt at rage bait content.

Meanwhile, Curry has been absolutely balling out in the start to the NBA season. Through six games, in which the Warriors are 5-1, Curry is already averaging 30.8 points and 5.7 rebounds. The Warriors have been route one this season, with Curry nearly doubling the ppg of the next-best shooter on the team (Klay Thompson, 16.8 ppg). It remains to be seen if Curry can keep this white-hot pace throughout the season. Curry only has two 30-point seasons (2015/16, 2020/21) in his lengthy career.

The Warriors are currently in the early stages of a road trip. After a win over the Thunder earlier this week, they still have games against Cleveland, Detroit, and Denver before returning home to face Cleveland on November 11. Their only loss this season came in the first game of the season, as the Suns topped them in a close game. They currently lead their division by 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers, who are 3-2.

Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, And Steve Nash Named As Inspirations Of Top NHL Prospect

Macklin Celebrini, widely considered the #1 draft pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, has named three basketball legends as his inspirations for becoming an elite athlete. Celebrini told The Athletic about watching his father, an in-demand personal trainer, work with the likes of Steve Nash (“Uncle Steve”), Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant. “It almost became an expectation in our household. Like, Mack barely remembers going to those workouts with Nash. And yet there’s still an expectation that gets set from that experience. That was just the world our family was in. We’ve grown up in an elite athlete’s world and seeing them work, seeing the dedication it takes,” Celebrini’s brother Aiden said. Furthermore, Aiden was drafted in the 6th round of the 2019 draft. Additionally, he currently plays at Boston University.

Rick, Celebrini’s father, is now the Warriors’ director of sports medicine and performance. He remembers this past summer, rehabbing with Macklin after a nasty injury during an international tournament. “I’d heard reports … about his work ethic, commitment and discipline. Honestly — and not because he’s my kid — but I was blown away by how locked in he was (during the rehab). I’d go out and watch Mack quite often go up and shoot pucks or stickhandle with his other hand. He’d just listen to music and lose himself in it. Just playing hockey and training and stickhandling with his left hand,” Rick said.

Furthermore, this fall, Celebrini joined his brother at Boston University. “Coming into school and being (in Boston), I mean, we’re brothers. But at the end of the day we’re best friends on top of everything. We do everything together. We train together every day, every summer. It ended up feeling odd for me. Selfishly, it wasn’t that I felt guilty, I just missed my brother. I was going through this process, seeing this new team and this new program that we’re joining together and I felt half of it. Because I wasn’t experiencing the other half with him,” Aiden said.

Macklin has nine points in his first six games for the Terriers. If he keeps that pace, then he is almost a lock for the #1 pick next year. However, he isn’t the consensus #1 pick just yet. The 2024 class is pretty stacked with talent. Just behind Celebrini is left winger Cole Eiserman, who currently plays for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. Both are considered worthy of the #1 spot. However, it just depends who has the better year on the ice.
