Spotify Raises Price on Premium Plans Worldwide

Get ready for your Spotify subscription to cost a little bit more each month. According to The Wall Street Journal, Spotify’s premium individual plan has raised $10.99 monthly.

Beginning Monday (July 24), plans will raise by $1 in North and South America, Europe and Asia. The duo plan will now register at $14.99 and the family plan will go up to $16.99. The premium student account will remain $5.99.

“The market landscape has continued to evolve since we launched,” Spotify said in an emailed statement. “So that we can keep innovating, we are changing our Premium prices across a number of markets around the world. These updates will help us continue delivering value to fans and artists on our platform.”

Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” Now Most Streamed Album On Spotify

Bad Bunny has officially broken a Spotify record. The Puerto Rican rapper’s 2022 album, Un Verano Sin Ti, is now the most streamed album of all time on the platform. It’s Bad Bunny’s fourth solo album, and was released in May of last year. The album also features other artists Chencho Corleone, Jhay Cortez, The Marías, and more. It brought fans hits like “Tití Me Preguntó,” and “Me Porto Bonito.” The record isn’t too shocking, as Bad Bunny has previously been named the most streamed artist on the platform for years in a row.

Bad Bunny has also recently made headlines for his rumored romance with Kendall Jenner. The duo has been spotted out together countless times recently, and some fans even suspect that a recent single of his could have been a nod to the model. The music video for “WHERE SHE GOES” also features Lil Uzi Vert, Frank Ocean, Dominic Fike, and more.

Earlier this year, a source told UsWeekly that Jenner sees Bad Bunny as having “long term potential.” The source added, “She feels like he’s the complete package and he treats her like a total gentleman. They are having a great time together, and she appreciates that he gets along with all of her friends.”

Earlier this year, Bad Bunny also made his in-ring debut with the WWE. During an interview with Zane Lowe on New Music Daily Radio, the artist expressed how much of a toll the sport takes on him. In the interview, he revealed that his San Juan match in May landed him an injury. “I suffer. Yeah, I got hurt. I got hurt. My back, my back. Whole body, bro. My whole body. I felt that I was going to die after that match,” he explained. Bad Bunny continued, “I really thought that I was going to die after the match, but it’s part of it. I was prepared.”

Spotify Is Reportedly Thinking About A Stronger Push Into Video With A New Addition To Its App

Spotify is the king when it comes to streaming music. In terms of music-related videos, though, TikTok and YouTube seem to have a stronger foothold in that space. Now, though, it looks like Spotify might be hatching a plan to have a more prominent video presence.

Bloomberg reports that Spotify is “considering adding full-length music videos to its app,” and that they’ve “already begun talking to partners about the product, according to people familiar with the plan who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak about it publicly.” Spotify declined to comment for the story.

Meanwhile, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek recently said Spotify could raise its prices soon. He said, “I think we are ready to raise prices, I think we have the ability to do that, but it really comes down to those negotiations [with major music industry stakeholders]. […] We did raise prices in 46 different locations and markets last year, and even in those markets, we were still out performing. I feel really good about our ability to raise prices over time — that we have that ability — and we have lots of data now that backs that up. […] We’re working with our label partners to work […] to figure out what’s the best opportunity to do that. And that’s a more complex trade. When the timing’s right, we will raise it.”

Tyler, The Creator Celebrates “See You Again” Hitting One Billion Streams On Spotify

Tyler, The Creator thanked fans for their support after his Flower Boy song, “See You Again,” reached one billion streams on Spotify. In doing so, he shared the feat on his Instagram Story while writing, “Thank you to all ears.”

Tyler released “See You Again” as the fourth single from his album Flower Boy back in 2017. Kali Uchis is featured on the track. While it was successful at the time of its release, the song reached newfound popularity in 2023 after going viral on TikTok. It’s since reached as high as No. 43 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Despite his comments on “See You Again,” Tyler hasn’t spoken as positively about some of his other previous work. During a recent interview on the Rap Radar Podcast, he remarked that his debut album, Goblin, “is f*cking terrible.” “It’s an energy and an aura that it has,” he explained. “And hearing my wonky synths, and gross drums, and me not realizing I’m yelling on every song and saying the most wild shit is what got people there. It’s not about the music. If you were there, that energy and that aura and that air just cutting through what everyone else is doing is so important.”

He did admit that there are several songs on the album he still likes. “It’s still some ones on there,” he said. “I still think, ‘Yonkers,’ is awesome. ‘She’ is awesome. The first two versions of ‘Nightmare’ is ill, ‘Tron Cat’ is still awesome. ‘Analog’ is still cool, like there’s still a few things on there but people don’t know like, a lot of songs on that album were just like, random songs I recorded after Goblin that we kinda just, yeah here I got these songs.”

Nicki Minaj Shares Spotify Stats In Response To 50 Most Streamed Rap Albums Of All-Time List

Nicki Minaj took to Twitter on Monday to share some of her streaming stats after Spotify shared its top 50 most streamed rap albums of all-time list. The streaming platform did so in honor of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. With her classic project, The Pinkprint, landing at No. 39, Minaj was one of only two women to make the cut. The other was Cardi B, who took the 16th spot with her debut album, Invasion Of Privacy.

While fans discussed the placements on the list, Nicki chimed in on Twitter by referencing the success of her 2022 single, “Super Freaky Girl,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Last rap song to debut #1?” she asked. The last female artist to accomplish that feat before Nicki was Lauryn Hill, who did so with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

“Highest first week album sales second only to Ms. Lauryn Hill,” Minaj wrote in another tweet.. “Yikes. Pink Friday dropped 13 years ago.” When a fan brought up Minaj’s new collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert on the Pink Tape, “Endless Fashion,” she replied: “SAME!!! LETS GO. STREAMING RECEIPTS ALL DAY BARBZ. Under DUDS, UNDER EVERY THING. LETS GOOOOOO!!!! If we have a smart day I’ll give you a treat.”

She also discussed the success of the re-release of her mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty. “Let’s not forget beam me up scotty doing 80K first week,” she tweeted. “A mixtape with 12 year old songs that were free to listen to on YouTube so glad Drizzy gave me that pep talk when he sent me #SeeingGreen so glad Weezy sent me a voice note rapping when I needed it.” Minaj also commented on the idea that she should be “humble” about her stats. She wrote back to a fan: “Well I have to post it myself b/c I don’t come from the era of paying publications to post stats for me.”

Spotify’s Top 50 Most Streamed Rap Albums Of All-Time List Is Dominated By Drake, Eminem, And Kendrick Lamar

Young Thug’s new album Business Is Business with Metro Boomin nearly dethroned Morgan Wallen’s reign of the No. 1 spot“on the music charts. While second place is still a considerable feat, no hip-hop albums have charted in the coveted spot so far this year. To demonstrate the genre’s impact in another way, Spotify shared its top 50 most streamed rap albums of all-time list.

Based on metrics, Drake, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar have effortlessly dominated the platform. Atop the list is the late XXXTentacion’s 2018 album ?. Drake (Scorpion at No. 2 and Views at No. 3), the late Juice Wrld (Goodbye & Good Riddance), and Travis Scott (Astroworld) round out the top five slots.

Drake made the most appearances on the list with his albums Scorpion, Views, More Life (No. 9), Take Care (No. 19), Certified Lover Boy (No. 22), Nothing Was The Same (No. 26), If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (No. 35), and Dark Lane Demo Tapes (No. 48), all finding a home in the top 50.

Eminem was the second most placed rapper on the list thanks to his albums The Eminem Show (No. 11), Recovery (No. 24), The Marshall Mathers LP – Tour Edition (No. 28), The Marshall Mathers LP2 (No. 29), Music To Be Murdered By Side B Deluxe Edition (No. 30), Kamikaze (No. 36.) landing on the list.

Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West tied for the third most-placed rappers, with three albums each making the list. Lamar’s DAMN. (No. 8), Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City (No. 17) and Black Panther: The Album (No. 23) were listed. While Ye’s The Life Of Pablo (No. 18), Graduation (No. 20), and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (No. 34) were credited.

After hearing news of the list, Nicki Minaj seemingly called out the streamer’s flawed metrics. Only one of Minaj’s albums landed on the list, The Pinkprint (at No. 39). However, based on past data shared by the platform, the “Barbie World” rapper is one of the top 10 most streamed rappers.

Cardi B Has The Most Streamed Album By Female Rapper On Spotify

Earlier today, Spotify released a list of the 50 most streamed rap albums in the platforms history. Artists like Drake, Eminem, Kanye West, Juice Wrld, and Kendrick Lamar found their projects all over the list. XXXTENTACION places two albums in the top 10 including his 2018 album ? at the number one spot. The oldest album on the list was 2Pac’s 1996 album All Eyez On Me. While the newest album on the list was Lil Baby’s My Turn which is nearly a year and a half old. Of the top 50 albums, only two are made by women.

Nicki Minaj’s classic The Pinkprint turns up at the number #39 spot, just one ahead of her collaborator 6ix9ine’s DUMMY BOY. But the most streamed female rap album in Spotify history goes to Cardi B. Her album Invasion Of Privacy shows up at number 16 nestled in between records from Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. It’s not surprising the album is so high given the fact that it contains two of the biggest rap hits of the past 5 years “Boday Yellow” and “I Like It.” The latter features J Balvin and Bad Bunny and has racked up over 1.5 billion streams.

What makes Cardi’s success even more impressive is that Invasion Of Privacy is still her only album to date. She’s been teasing a sophomore release repeatedly all year including even making a burner Instagram account to mess with fans. While no new information ever materialized Cardi B hasn’t kept fans completely starved in 2023. She joined Latto for a remix of her song “Put It On Da Floor” that immediately became a hit. Latto seemed to thank Cardi by gifting her a gorgeous Chanel bag that she showed off on Twitter last week.

Latto’s present wasn’t the only thing that Cardi B showed off on Twitter recently. Last week she introduced fans to a gorgeous custom pink and bronze piano she had made for her house. XXXTENTACION Tops List Of Spotify’s Most Streamed Rap Albums

2023 hasn’t been particularly kind to rap music commercially. More than halfway through the year and no rap song or album has topped either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200. But earlier today Spotify made a post revealing the 50 most streamed rap albums on the platform and it featured a number of former chart toppers. Drake leads the way with 8 albums making the cut while Eminem turns up second with 6. Many of rap music’s biggest stars appear on the list multiple times including Juice Wrld, Kanye West, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, and Migos. The oldest album on the list is 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me while the newest is Lil Baby’s My Turn.

To the surprise of many, the most streamed album on the platform doesn’t come from any of those artists. XXXTENTACION’s 2018 album ? tops the entire list. The album features four songs that have racked up more than a billion streams each. “hope,” “changes,” and the mega-hit “moonlight” have all crossed the milestone. Even more impressive is the album’s biggest hit, the chart-topping “SAD!” The song has over 2 billion streams and is currently the 50th most-streamed song on the entire platform.

XXXTENTACION is no stranger to commercial success. The album before ?, 17 is number 6 on the list of Spotify’s most streamed rap albums. Just last month another of X’s hits, the track “F*ck Love” with Trippie Redd was certified diamond. The certification came on Trippie’s 24th birthday 6 years after the song was initially released.

XXXTENTACION’s estate has continued releasing pieces of music he was working on before his 2018 murder. Back in May they officially released a beloved deep cut on streaming. “let’s pretend were numb” dates all the way back to 2015 but has become a massive fan favorite and recently made its way to Spotify. Rihanna, Kanye West, & Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds” Reaches 1 Billion Spotify Streams

Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney’s 2015 single “FourFiveSeconds” has reached one billion streams on Spotify, according to Chart Data. It’s the latest achievement for the song, which already reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and has been certified four times platinum by the RIAA.

In addition to “FourFiveSeconds,” Kanye also worked with The Beatles legend on the tracks, “All Day” and “Only One.” McCartney once said that he “learned a lot” from working with West during that time.

Speaking with DIY, he recalled their studio sessions: “We ended up just talking a lot. I played a few little things and one of them ended up as ‘FourFiveSeconds’ with Rihanna. It’s more a question of me feeling lucky that these people are interested [in working with me] and think that I can bring something to it. For me, I feel great. I like diversity.”

“We had two or three afternoons where we just hung out together in a Beverly Hills hotel in the bungalows out the back, and he had his engineer and was set up with a couple of microphones in case anything happened,” he continued. “I was tootling around on guitar, and Kanye spent a lot of time just looking at pictures of Kim [Kardashian] on his computer. I’m thinking, ‘are we ever gonna get around to writing?!’

In addition to the release of “FourFiveSeconds,” the trio dropped a black-and-white music video for the song. Rihanna said that Ye handled the fashion decisions for the shoot. “Kanye came up with the idea of just doing some real street, denim, all-American-type look,” she told Rolling Stone. “Denim never goes out of style. It’s classic, it’s iconic just like the f—ing Beatles.”
