How To Use Spotify Jam

Today (September 26), Spotify announced Jam, a new feature that aims to bring music listeners together, but what is it and how does it work?

Spotify lays it out in a blog post and describes Jam as “a personalized, real-time listening session for your group to tune into together,” adding, “Jam builds on some of our popular social features and combines them with our personalization technology to take real-time listening with pals to the next level.”

As for how to use the feature (which is rolling out globally today), the first step is to make sure you have an up-to-date version of the Spotify app. From there, one user (who must have a Premium account) can start a Jam, which any Spotify user (Premium or not) can join.

More specifically, Spotify explains, “To get grooving, select a playlist or song you’re feeling excited about. You’ll see a “Start a Jam” button by clicking the speaker icon at the bottom of your screen or by hitting the three dot menu within your favorite playlist or song. You can also select a device to play on, whether that’s your phone or speaker. Those in your household on your shared Wi-Fi will also be prompted to join the Jam when they open Spotify.”

Then, the user who started the jam can invite others to join in one of three ways: “Turn on Bluetooth, then tap your phones together,” “Have your friends scan the QR code on your host screen,” or “Hit ‘share’ to send the link through social, text, SMS, and more.”

Once the Jam has been set up and multiple users are in, anybody in the Jam can “add songs to the queue, see who added which song, and receive recommendations, all from their own devices.” The Jam’s host has advanced control, though, as they can “determine who’s in the Jam, change the order of the tracks, or remove a song that doesn’t fit the vibe.”

Spotify also shared a promotional video showing off the feature, so check that out above and learn more about Jam here.

Doja Cat’s “Scarlet” Performers Take Over U.K. Streets As She Breaks A New Spotify Record

Scarlet is finally here, and if there’s anyone in the United Kingdom who didn’t know, they found out the hard way on Saturday (September 23). Moreover, Doja Cat sent out various actors covered from head to toe in red tights and paint to promote the new project. As they dance and make wild faces for the amused crowd, you can hear some of the Los Angeles native’s new tracks in the background. It’s certainly a creative way to create buzz around a new phase in your career, especially such a seemingly dark aesthetic turn. Still, it’s not like the “Paint The Town Red” MC has never played with aesthetics like these before in her music or with her image.

As such, this is actually quite the cool and fitting promo move for Doja Cat, especially in another country outside of her own. Lots of people are probably tired of hearing about her supposed satanic ties in the States, and maybe other nations haven’t caught up yet. Regardless, it’s something that clearly caught passerby’s eyes, as you can see people pulling out their phones as they approach the dancers. Also, with Halloween right around the corner, the move could be the dawn of the spooky season this year for anyone who saw it.

Doja Cat’s “Demons” Roam U.K. Streets

What’s more is that the 27-year-old’s promotional efforts proved to pay off, and will likely continue to do so. According to Chart Data, Doja Cat’s Scarlet officially broke Spotify’s record for the biggest debut for a female artist’s hip-hop album in the platform’s history. This puts her in the same league as titans like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more superstars. Of course, the hitmaker was already in that conversation, but this is just adding a little extra proof to silence any doubters.

Scarlet Enters The Spotify History Books

Meanwhile, this commercial success also hints that she will have a top ten debut on the Billboard 200 chart with Scarlet. It’s been interesting to hear fan reception to the album considering Doja’s public controversies and her change in aesthetics. Do you think she stuck the landing? Let us know in the comments and come back to HNHH for the latest on Doja Cat.

Christina Milian Shows Love For Doja Cat’s Individuality

In a recent interview with Page Six, Christina Milian expressed her admiration for pop star, Doja Cat. Milian, who carved her own path as a pop star with hits like “Dip It Low,” offered glowing praise for Doja Cat’s distinctive image, highlighting the artist’s unique approach to her craft. Christina Milian’s words of appreciation reflect the evolving landscape of the music industry, where artists like Doja Cat have redefined the boundaries of creativity and self-expression. While Milian’s own music career was marked by memorable songs and a unique style that resonated with fans, she recognizes that the industry has evolved since her heyday.

In embracing this evolution, she commends Doja Cat for embracing her individuality and pushing artistic boundaries. “The image is not necessarily my type of image but I love that about her,” Milian explains. “And it’s a performance and it’s entertainment.” The “Paint The Town Red” singer Doja Cat, known for her genre-blurring music and eclectic fashion sense, has indeed carved out her own niche in the music world. However, she’s breaking records as she goes. In fact, just last week she broke an all-time Spotify record. At just 27 years old, she has the highest number of monthly listeners of any female rapper in history, surpassing an impressive 65.7 million. Despite being different from her peers, her uniqueness has proved to be successful in today’s music age.

Doja Cat’s ability to seamlessly blend different musical styles, from hip-hop to pop to R&B, has garnered her a massive and diverse fan base. Milian’s acknowledgment of Doja Cat’s unique image serves as a testament to the ever-changing landscape of the music industry, where artists are celebrated for their authenticity and willingness to break the mold. “I like that she’s owning herself. I think that’s what I love about it,” Milian continued.

Furthermore, Milian’s endorsement of Doja Cat underscores the importance of artists supporting and uplifting one another in the competitive music industry. Rather than viewing Doja Cat’s unique image as a threat or competition, Milian’s words reflect a spirit of camaraderie and respect among musicians who appreciate the artistry and individuality of their peers. In an era where artists such as Doja Cat continue to redefine the music scene, Christina Milian‘s admiration for her serves as a reminder of the way the music world thrives on the celebration of individuality. How To Use Spotify Duo

Spotify Duo is a new feature from Spotify that allows two people who live together to share one payment plan but with two separate premium accounts, ensuring that they get to keep their own passwords, playlists, and shared music. The discount is presumably designed to give roommates and partners a savings option that doesn’t just saddle them with a family plan or sharing an account.

To use Spotify Duo, one of the two people must be designated as the plan manager. This person sets up the payment method, sets the address, and invites the other member to join. Meanwhile, the second person can join once they’ve been invited by logging into their own account, then entering the correct address. If they were already on a premium account, they’ll be prompted once that account expires after canceling the final month. Users can only switch Duo plans once a year.

In order to cancel your existing premium plan, click CHANGE PLAN under the Your Plan tab. Under Cancel Spotify, click CANCEL PREMIUM. The account will switch to a free account after the next billing date. Your playlists and saved music remain with the addition of ads. Once you’re on a Duo account, following these steps will simply remove you from the plan, while the plan manager will still need to cancel or update the payment method.

If you don’t already have a premium account, you may want to sign up soon; Spotify is currently testing restricting access to song lyrics to just premium users.

You can see a video for instructions here.

What Is Spotify Duo?

Spotify has unveiled a special new feature called Spotify Duo that users might be interested in — and isn’t quite well-known just yet. For those unfamiliar, Spotify Duo is a deal for Premium users to receive a discount plan. Specifically, for two users who live together.

According to Spotify’s website, each person gets their own Premium account with a separate password. Even if you are on the same plan, the account would be solely your own.

To join Duo, one person would be the designated plan manager. While you cannot change who is in charge of this after signing up, they would “handle payments, set the address, [and] invite and remove members.”

Other steps include: “Live with the plan manager (the person who signed up), log into (or sign up for) your own account, [and] enter the correct address.”

Spotify also points out that if you currently have a Premium account with someone else, you would need to cancel that and wait for the billing cycle to end before signing up for Spotify Duo.

Upon joining the program, users can only switch Duo plans once per year.

Right now, Spotify is allowing users to try Duo for two months while still using their individual plan at no extra cost. More information on this can be found here.

Slim Thug Is Feeling Good On His Latest Record “Midlife Crisis”

Prolific, veteran, Houston rapper Slim Thug is back with another album for 2023. This new project follows up his second release from this year, BIGslim (Swisha House Remix) (Edited), and it is titled Midlife Crisis. Before both of these releases, he put out Where Dreams Are Made. Each output has been short and concise with each one not exceeding more than 10 songs. Midlife Crisis follows that similar trend with just 12 tracks at just over 37 minutes in length.

Thug is sounding extremely confident as he always has on this new effort. A good deal of the cuts here feature some nice soulful vocal samples. Additionally, the rapper is laying down his verses over the traditional bassy and bouncy Southern hip-hop beats. Some of the themes that are woven into the runtime of the project seem to reflect on his past when times were putting him in difficult situations.

Swedish Gang Members Are Apparently Using Spotify Streams To Launder Money, Somehow

A newspaper in Sweden titled Svenska Dagbladet has recently claimed that gang members are using Spotify as a tool to launder money. The paper had sources of four Swedish gang members and an anonymous police offer.

The laundering is apparently done by converting money into Bitcoin through Facebook, using the cryptocurrency to purchase fake streams for artists tied to the gangs, and then cash out the money made from said streams.

“Spotify has become an ATM for them,” the cop said (via Music Business Worldwide.) “There is a direct connection to the gangs and therefore also to the deadly violence.”

“If you’re a network and you want to attract kids and you have a rapper who’s going big, that’s half the job for you,” he added. “It is very good for recruiting purposes.”

In a recent study from France’s Centre National de Musique, they noted that only 3% of streams across platforms are fake — with MBW noting that this accounts for the ones they actually find. And, considering how little the streaming services pay artists for single streams, it seems difficult to be able to get a large return.

The paper also reached out to Spotify for the chance to comment on the matter. While they declined an interview, a spokesperson did offer a statement.

“We have no evidence that money laundering occurred via Spotify,” they said. “Less than one percent of all streams on Spotify have been determined to be tampered with.”
