Joe Rogan Extends His Contract With Spotify, But There’s A Twist

Joe Rogan has signed a multi-year extension with Spotify to continue producing The Joe Rogan Experience for the platform. However, the new deal comes with a major change. Gone is the previously implemented distribution exclusivity clause. Spotify and Rogan will now look to also release the highly successful podcast on Apple, Amazon, and YouTuber amongst other platforms.

The details of the contract were not released. However, The Wall Street Journal estimates that the deal is worth somewhere in the region of $250M. His previous deal with Spotify is believed to be have been worth between $100M and $200M. The Joe Rogan Experience is the last Spotify-exclusive podcast on the platform. Call Her Daddy moved to a non-exclusive agreement last week. Meanwhile, a new podcast headed by Trevor Noah launched as a Spotify non-exclusive last year.

Alex Cooper Opens Up About Boston University Trauma

Meanwhile, another of Spotify’s (formerly) exclusive talents opened up about one of the darkest portions of her life. Call Her Daddy host and former D1 soccer player Alex Cooper broke her silence about “traumatic experiences” she endured while playing at Boston University during a November Cosmopolitan interview. “With this specific thing, it’s so personal to me and it took such a toll on my mental health. Recently, I reconnected with a lot of the people that I played soccer with who were around when things were happening and it’s been pretty cathartic. I met up with one of my teammates in Santa Monica who I hadn’t seen since we graduated — we didn’t even say hi, we just both started crying. There’s another woman that went through it with me, and we finally saw each other recently and it’s just wild to talk about it together.”

While details are scarce, Cooper has alluded to the “traumatic experience” being at the hands of a coach during her time with the Terriers. Cooper played for the team between 2013 and 2015. However, Cooper said she left the team partway through her senior season in 2016 over the incident. Furthermore, Cooper has said that she intends to fully speak out about the incident on her podcast in the near future.

Nicki Minaj Nabs Another Record-Breaking Achievement With “Big Foot”

Nicki Minaj’s new Megan Thee Stallion diss track is doing very well, and if nothing else, at least this beef is bringing these femcees a lot of commercial success. Moreover, the Trinidadian MC recently took to social media to bask in her latest broken record. “Big Foot” officially claims the biggest Spotify debut for a solo song from a female rapper in 2024. “O….my… I’m really happy about breaking this record, you guys,” she captioned a new Instagram post celebrating the accolade. “This is SOOOOOOOOOOO unbelievable, yo. THANK YOU. LOVE YOU. #PinkFriday2 #BigFoot. Dear #BARBZ, you are loved & adored & appreciated & admired & absolutely amazing. I’m not even kidding I love you & thank you so much. If you only knew.”

However, in the comments section of this post, you will see a lot of people trashing Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot,” as well as plenty of praise. Still, a lot of the most engaged-with comments are about how this song is disappointing or about how she’s crashing out. While we can’t make these judgements this early into the spat, it’s fair to say that these sides manifested well before either artist chose to attack on wax. As such, it’s hard to find a corner on the Internet where there isn’t equal parts love and hate for the two, and since we’re talking about rap beef, neither rapper should lament that.

Nicki Minaj Celebrates The Biggest Spotify Song Debut For A Solo Femcee In 2024

But the question still stands: who’s winning, Nicki Minaj or Megan Thee Stallion? The latter still hasn’t responded to the former with a song, which might be an automatic loss for many. Regardless, there are also plenty of people who think the Houston hitmaker won outright with her “Megan’s Law” line, even if that also brought up its own controversy around its namesake’s history and Meg’s use of it. Let us know what you think on that debate down in the comments below.

Meanwhile, we’re sure both superstars will continue to celebrate the success of their tracks, but the fan jury’s still out. It’s been 24 hours without an apology from Megan to her mother, and the Barbz’s leader still hasn’t made “s**t uglier than KenBarbie” as threatened. Will we ever wrap this up in a nice bow or is this where the buck stops? To find out, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Nicki Minaj.

How To See Your Spotify ‘Daylist’ Playlist

spotify

Spotify rolled out its “Daylist” feature back in September 2023, but apparently, interest in it has skyrocketed lately: Today (January 25), Spotify CEO Daniel Ek tweeted, “You guys have been really loving daylist! (searches last week went up 20,000%).”

So, what’s going on here?

What Is The Spotify “Daylist” Playlist?

In a blog post introducing the feature, Spotify explained:

“Throughout the day, your mood changes, and so does the music you listen to. Last night might have been a windows down, thrillwave monday evening, while this moment is more of a ’90s rave rainforest late night. The point is, you’re ever-changing, and your playlists should be too.

Say hello to daylist, your day in a playlist. This new, one-of-a-kind playlist on Spotify ebbs and flows with unique vibes, bringing together the niche music and microgenres you usually listen to during particular moments in the day or on specific days of the week. It updates frequently between sunup and sundown with a series of highly specific playlists made for every version of you. It’s hyper-personalized, dynamic, and playful as it reflects what you want to be listening to right now.

You’ll get new tracks at every update, plus a new title that sets the mood of your daylist. With relatable titles including thrillwave, happy dance, pumpkin spice, and more, the playlist helps you understand more about your taste in music—and express your unique audio identity.”

How To See Your Spotify ‘Daylist’ Playlist

As the aforementioned blog post notes, the feature is available to use for both free and Premium users in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. To use the feature, you can visit spotify.com/daylist or find it on the mobile app in the Made For You hub. On Spotify’s desktop or web apps, you can also search for “daylist” and it’ll come up.

The playlist updates multiple times per day, but if you don’t want to lose a mix that you’re really feeling, you can save and make a copy of the playlist by tapping the three-dot menu, scrolling to “Add to playlist,” then selecting “New playlist.”

There are also a few options for sharing a “Daylist” mix you get: “A ready-made screenshot of your daylist,” “A social media sticker that captures the essence of your daylist,” and “A changing sharecard with up to four different background graphics depending on the time of day you post your daylist.”

Lil Nas X Got Wind Of Spotify’s Sassy Response To His ‘J Christ’ Single, And His Clapback Was Biblical

Even Lil Nas X’s commitment to his “Christian era” couldn’t wash him of his former troll ways. But his recent online post might’ve been justified. As the rapper claims to be studying theology (but probably isn’t), he’s already begun to implement one Christ-like principle, and streaming giant Spotify learned this the hard way.

On January 12, the platform took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to shade Lil Nas X’s new single, “J Christ.” “LNX is back with more mid-music [shrugging emoji],” read the note about the track. Well, Lil Nas X got wind of the diss and decided to embody the Biblical lesson, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Lil Nas X leapt into troll mode without missing a beat, replying to their message with one of his own. Using the viral clip from when an inmate attacked a Nevada judge, Lil Nas X wrote: “Me at the Spotify headquarters tomorrow.”

Some of his followers pointed out that the online exchange was probably something both Spotify and Nas were in on (the streaming platform typically doesn’t launch unsolicited social media attacks on popular artists), and it was likely just part of the single rollout. “Lol, people thinking this Spotify tweet wasn’t planned [crying laughing emoji],” wrote one user.

Others (like most people on the internet) just sat back and enjoyed the messy interaction. Given Lil Nas X’s history of outrage marketing, whether it was staged or not, this is all a win in his eyes.

Nicki Minaj Breaks Spotify Record And Breaks Down Her Writing For Fans

The commercial accolades keep coming for Nicki Minaj’s new album Pink Friday 2. The rapper released her first new studio album in 5 years last month and it’s been a hit with fans. The feature-packed effort sports appearances from Drake, J. Cole, Future, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. Songs like “FTCU,” “Needle,” and “Everybody” have already taken off on the Hot 100. In combination with hit singles like “Super Freaky Girl” and “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” the album racked up hundreds of millions of streams quickly.

In fact, Pink Friday 2 just broke a record for how quickly it’s generating streams. Minaj’s newest effort just surpassed 1 billion streams which is an incredibly impressive milestone on its own. But it gets even more impressive when you learn that she also broke the record for the fastest album to hit 1 billion streams by a female rapper in the history of the platform. Additionally, she became the first female rapper with five different albums that each crossed 1 billion streams.

Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” Achievements

Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj peeled back the curtain on her creative process during an Instagram Live. She broke down the songwriting process of one of the new album’s biggest hits, “FTCU.” It’s the same song that she revealed J. Cole took a particular interest in when she first played it for him prior to the release of the album.

It’s the same track that Nicki has been teasing an upcoming remix for. While she didn’t say who would be joining her on the song she did say it was a male rapper. That’s why after learning of his pre-release intrigue with the song many suspected that Cole was the artist joining her for a remix. Nicki hasn’t shared an official release date for the remix yet. What do you think of the fast commercial success of Pink Friday 2? Did you find her breaking down her songwriting and lyrical content impressive or helpful? Let us know in the comment section below.

The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Just Made Spotify History By Being The First Song To Cross An Unreal Streaming Milestone

The Weeknd is an undisputed king of the streaming music era, as evidenced by the fact that “Blinding Lights” is the most-played song in Spotify history. Since its release in late 2019, the song has been racking up streams, and now, it has reached a height no song before it ever has: It’s the first song to ever reach 4 billion total streams on Spotify.

As of this post, Spotify currently shows “Blinding Lights” as having 3,999,046,181 streams, but some started reporting this afternoon (January 11) that the song had eclipsed 4 billion. Regardless, if it hasn’t hit 4 billion quite yet, it will any second now (perhaps by the time you read this) and become the first song to ever do so.

Currently, after “Blinding Lights” on the all-time Spotify list are Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” (3.74 billion streams), Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” (3.15 billion), Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” (3.1 billion), and Tones And I’s “Dance Monkey” (2.97 billion). Just outside the top 5 is The Weeknd and Daft Punk’s “Starboy” at 2.95 billion plays.

The last song to break this sort of ground was “Shape Of You.” It used to be Spotify’s most-streamed track ever, and in December 2021, it became the first song to hit 3 billion plays on the platform. At the time, “Blinding Lights” was second on the all-time list, but it rose to No. 1 in January 2023.

Now that we’re a couple weeks into 2024, the highly anticipated new album releases are starting to roll in. One of the first of the year is 21 Savage’s American Dream. The album follows 2018’s I Am > I Was as the rapper’s first solo project in six years. If you’re a Spotify user, here’s what to know about when you can stream the album.

When Will 21 Savage’s American Dream Be On Spotify?

Like most new albums from high-profile artists, the project is set to be released at midnight on Friday, January 12 (or 9 p.m. PT on January 11), so it should be available to stream, on Spotify and other platforms, starting then. If neither of those are your time zone, try using a time zone converter like this to figure out when the album drops where you are.

So far, Savage has kept info about the album pretty close to the vest. No singles from the album have been released so far and he has yet to reveal a tracklist or any featured artists. He did share the cover art recently, though.

He also unveiled a trailer for his movie American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, featuring Donald Glover and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin playing him at different points in his life.

American Dream is out 1/12 via Epic Records. Find more information here.
