Worlds 2023: T1 And LNG Battle For Final Semifinal Spot

The 2023 League of Legends World Championships, better known as Worlds 2023, represents a major change for the long-running tournament. Ahead of the 2023 pro season, Riot Games announced that major format changes would be coming to the season-ending tournament. Since 2017, the tournament has operated a play-in stage, a group stage, and a knockout stage.

Starting in 2023, the scope of the play-in stage will be reduced and modified. Firstly, the play-in will no longer feature teams from South Korea or China. Furthermore, a maximum of one team from Europe or North America will be present. The last of the eight teams to qualify for the play-in stage will be determined by a preliminary qualification tournament.

Furthermore, the Worlds Qualifying Series will pit the fourth seed from Europe against the fourth seed from North America. Subsequently, The winner of this best-of-five series will compete in the Worlds play-in stage. Additionally, this was won by Team BDS, who beat Golden Guardians.

Additionally, the Worlds group stage has been replaced by a Swiss Stage format. Furthermore, teams will play a maximum of five matches, with their opponents determined by their previous results. However, three regions will no longer be represented at Worlds from 2023. Firstly, the TCL, which represents Turkey, vacated its Worlds spot to become part of the European Region League system. Similarly, the LCO, which represents Oceania, vacated its Worlds spot and will seek qualification through the PCS. Finally, the LCL, which represents Russia, has been suspended since the Russian Invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

With the elimination of Team Bliss and Chiefs Esports Club from the PCS playoffs, Worlds 2023 will be the first since 2016 not to feature any teams from Oceania.

Worlds 2023 Play In

The Worlds 2023 Play-In Stage will be conducted using the GSL format. The top two teams from each group qualify for a best-of-five series. A TikToker by the name of “swagifypromo” has found himself as the main character of SportsTok after trying to shame Steph Curry. The account posted a video claiming that his 8-year-old son had saved $2500 for courtside seats at a Warriors game so he could meet Steph Curry. However, the video shows Curry going to meet another family as the TikToker’s son quietly stands in the background with a jersey.

Despite this being perfect ragebait, people are more mad at the TikToker than Curry. “Entitled parents and kids,” reads one comment with over 11,000 likes. “How does an 8yr old save $2500? My 30yr old lives in my house,” another said with 15,000 likes. Furthermore, people took major issue with the original poster saying that NBA players had a “duty to serve the youth” and other bizarre phrases. Of course, there were a handful of people calling for Curry to make it right. However, a majority of the commenters have seen through Swagify’s attempt at rage bait content.

Meanwhile, Curry has been absolutely balling out in the start to the NBA season. Through six games, in which the Warriors are 5-1, Curry is already averaging 30.8 points and 5.7 rebounds. The Warriors have been route one this season, with Curry nearly doubling the ppg of the next-best shooter on the team (Klay Thompson, 16.8 ppg). Court documents have shone more light on why Chiefs wide receiver Justyn Ross was arrested last week. The affidavit states that after Ross reportedly learned of his partner’s infidelity, he allegedly pushed her to the ground and began throwing household objects at her. Furthermore, a number of witnesses claimed they saw Ross “run a small knife” across the exterior of the woman’s Mercedes. However, the document also states that Ross denied the claims. According to him, he only threw her belongings out of the house and did break a laptop, but claimed that it was his property.

Ross was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on October 27, four days after his arrest and not-guilty plea. Ross had been played sparingly across the start of the 2023 season, appearing in three games for the Chiefs and racking up just 34 yards. He was an undrafted free agent signed in 2022. However, he missed his entire rookie season due to an offseason foot injury. At the trade deadline (October 31), the Chiefs traded for Jets receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. to add some depth at the position.

Adam Silver Promotes SKIMS After NBA & WNBA Deal

Adam Silver proudly promotes SKIMS, the shapewear company founded by Kim Kardashian, after the brand recently struck a deal with the NBA and WNBA. “Although I’m not going to show you, I’m wearing them right now. I strongly recommend them to everyone,” Silver told TMZ during a street interview earlier this week. “When guys are more comfortable, makes them play better. So yes, gonna have a direct impact on the game,” Silver added.

SKIMS recently landed a multiyear deal with both the NBA and WNBA in the wake of the launch of its men’s brand, which featured Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as one of the launch models. The shapewear brand will be promoted at “marquee league events” and national television broadcasts will carry “virtual on-court signage” for the brand as well. “Skims has quickly become one of our most culturally influential brands. We look forward to bringing NBA fans and Skims users unique experiences, new offerings and premium products through our partnership,” Silver said in a press statement.

Charles Barkley Presses Adam Silver On Domestic Violence

However, it’s not all been brand promotion for Silver. Charles Barkley used Silver’s appearance on Inside The NBA to confront the league executive about the sharp rise in domestic violence incidents involving NBA players. Silver appeared completely caught off guard by the question. Eventually, he stammered his way through an answer that essentially boiled to “We tell the players that violence is bad”. However, while Silver said that the “consequences are enormous” for the players, the opposite rings true in practice.

The league only suspended repeat offender Miles Bridges for 10 games. Furthermore, they argued that he served 20 games of the original 30-game suspension by being a free agent last season. Meanwhile, Bridges was arrested in recent weeks for violating his protective order against his original victim. Meanwhile, the NBA has said nothing other than the league being “aware of the situation” when it comes to the Kevin Porter Jr. situation. Of course, Silver is never going to say anything revolutionary when it comes to domestic violence. However, it’s far from the answer that Barkley’s question warranted.
