Trae Young To Miss At Least 4 Weeks Following Finger Surgery

Trae Young will miss at least the next four weeks while recovering from a torn ligament in his left pinkie finger. The Hawks announced that the All-Star point guard will undergo surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on Tuesday. After the four weeks, he will be re-evaluated. He suffered the injury during Friday’s loss to Toronto.

“You feel awful for Trae more than anything,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said as noted by ESPN. “It is going to be a challenge for him not to be out there.” The absence comes as several key players for the Hawks have gotten hurt. “You have to adapt,” Snyder added. “That happened when we lost Jalen [Johnson]. We have to have minutes from Kobe [Bufkin] and Patty [Mills] and we obviously know what (Dejounte Murray) can do. I don’t want to wallow in anything.”

Atlanta is currently competing for a spot in the play-in games in the Eastern Conference as the regular season enters its second half. Young begins his recovery period while leading the team with 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game. Snyder says the lineup will be “fluid” in his absence. “This will be fluid. If Boji starts, we lose his punch off the bench,” the coach said. “Do you want him stabilizing the second unit? There’s a lot of things that go into it. We will approach it that way.”

Angel Reese Joins Elite LSU Club With 2000th Point

Angel Reese became the sixth LSU WBB player to score 2000 points as she surpassed the mark in a dominant win over Tennessee. Reese joined Joyce Walker, Seimone Augustus, Julie Gross, Cornelia Grayden, and Sylvia Fowles in the exclusive club. Reese began her career at Maryland, where she scored 719 points. However, she is now forever linked with the Tigers. Reese’s mark stands at 2006 after scoring 11 against the Volunteers.

Reese and LSU are second in the SEC. However, that is as close to a regular season title they will get this season as South Carolina will guarantee themselves that honor with a win over Kentucky. Instead, Reese and company will look to finish out the season against Georgia and Kentucky before turning their attention to the SEC tournament and then, a March Madness tournament they will enter as defending champions. LSU is currently a four-seed in ESPN‘s latest bracketology.

Angel Reese Calls Out Barstool Sports For “Double Standards”

However, Reese isn’t just comfortable taking shots on the court. Last month, Reese criticized Barstool Sports for a “double standard” in how they reported on two instances of the same celebration. “Lol I’ve seen this before,” Reese said in response to a post on X about Barstool‘s reporting of celebrations performed by Ja Morant and Quinn Ewers. On December 26, Ja Morant faced scrutiny for performing the “Rock Ya Hips”, a dance move popularized in New Orleans. Morant used it to troll the Pelicans. However, the celebration was initially misreported as a gunfire celebration. “Ja spraying imaginary bullets into section 113 after slam,” was the way that Barstool reported it on social media. However, when Texas QB Quinn Ewers did the same celebration during the Sugar Bowl, Barstool said that Ewers was “having fun”.

Of course, Reese is no stranger to the ire of Barstool. The outlet, and its founder Dave Portnoy, were some of the bi ggest critics of Reese after she hit Tony Yayo‘s “You Can’t See Me” during the National Championship. Barstool‘s coverage has long been criticized for racial bias, especially against Black athletes.

Heat-Pelicans Fight Suspensions Announced

Jimmy Butler, Naji Marshall, and Nikola Jovic will be suspended for a game while Jose Alvarado and Thomas Bryant will miss three games for their respective roles in the brawl that broke out at Heat-Pelicans on Friday night. Alvarado and Bryant’s punishments were deemed more severe due to the pair reigniting tensions between the teams after the original scuffle had died down.

However, fans will note that Draymond Green still received a larger suspension for placing Rudy Gobert in a chokehold earlier in the season. Green missed five games for that incident. Fans will likely soon voice their distaste for the league’s double standard as news of the suspensions begins to spread.

Butler was one of four players ejected after a wild brawl broke out between Heat and Pelicans players on Friday night. A hard foul on Zion Williamson caused tensions to boil over, with Butler and Marshall seen grabbing each other by the neck. Bryant and Alvarado were also ejected alongside Butler and Marshall. However, Butler argued that he didn’t think his actions warranted a suspension. Furthermore, he accused Williamson of flopping, causing the whole debacle to begin with. Meanwhile, Williamson appeared to place the blame on Butler. “I wasn’t tripping about K-Love because he actually protected me on my fall. All of a sudden I see Butler kind of lunging toward Naji. So I’m trying to get there like, ‘Yo, relax, like what’s going on?’” Williamson said.

Additionally, tensions surrounding the game had been high even before the teams took the court. Earlier in the day, The Pelicans took shots at Stephen A. Smith after the ESPN personality went on yet another rant about team star Zion Williamson. The team’s official X account posted a graphic showing Smith’s dismal college stats of 1.5 points and 1 assist a game. Appearing on Get Up! earlier in the day, Smith had once again gone after Williamson’s weight. “Zion Williamson, it’s not about his game. It’s about how many burgers he’s eating,” Smith said in part.

Duke star Kyle Filipowski suffered a knee injury as Wake Forest fans stormed the court following their team’s upset victory over the iconic college basketball program. Duke was ranked No. 8 in the country coming into the game. Wake Forest won 83-79.

“It’s just really ridiculous how that situation is handled,” Filipowski told WFMY News after the game. “I absolutely feel like it was personal. Intentional for sure. Like I said, there’s no reason where they see a big guy like me trying to work my way off the court and they can’t just work around me, you know? There’s no excuse for that.”

I never met this man a day in my life. If fumble a family and fumble a contract was a person. I would never give my friend son to somebody I don’t know at 5 am in the morning especially if they’re having a dispute. You gotta problem call the police and that’s exactly what he did. However, Kissen is no stranger to confrontation. In an October episode of Baddies East. Things got a little tense after the crew rolled up to an indoor go-karting place. Some of the group started pressing Kissen as to why she looks so dour. Tee simply responded that she’s not feeling great. However, wasn’t not enough for some of the group, who keep pressing, asking why she’s giving Rollie the “death stare”. Before you knew it, Scarface and Kissen were full-on brawling in front of the crew.

However, Kissen already made her thoughts on the altercation before the episode even dropped. “People talking about how she’s saying that she had to hold back because we can’t fight the way people do on other networks. Okay, but we still fought and we still threw down, b-tch. Like, how can you hold back on a b-tch if you fighting somebody. Get it done now,” Nate Jones wrote on X.

However, not everyone was on board with the idea. “Not when she hasn’t won any thing compared to women of Troy and Cheryl Miller Cynthia Cooper she’s great but we need to see them cutting down the ribbon first and she’s a freshman come on man,” one person wrote in response to Jones. While Watkins, the nation’s No. 2 scorer behind Clark has been lights out, the Trojans have struggled with consistency at times. 21-4 with three games to play in the Pac-12, the Trojans will be hoping to stun the conference during tournament play or rally around a deep run in March.

With three games remaining in the regular season, Clarke will most likely secure the record during the Hawkeye’s season finale against Ohio State.

The records might be hers, but Clark is far from done. Iowa is third in the Big Ten standings with a 12-3 conference record. Barring a complete collapse from Ohio State, the regular season title is likely out of reach for Iowa. After that comes the Big Ten Tournament and March Madness. With Clark expected to become the No. 1 pick in this year’s WNBA Draft, it would be only fitting for her to end her college career by avenging last year’s National Championship defeat.
