Watch Lil Baby And Kirk Franklin Take To The Court For Their Celebratory ‘Space Jam’ Track, ‘We Win’

Let me begin by encouraging you not to believe the bad press about Space Jam: A New Legacy — I saw the film in theaters this past weekend and it more than held up to the original. LeBron isn’t quite as great as he was in Trainwreck, but it’s close! And there’s a heartwarming family angle that was missing in the original. If you like watching toons play basketball and be silly, then you’ll love the film. And if you do go watch it, keep your ears peeled for a soundtrack that’s stuffed to the brim with rappers and musical legends, partially due to LeBron’s avid love for hip-hop I’m sure.

One such soundtrack cut is Lil Baby and Kirk Franklin collaborating on the celebratory gospel track, “We Win,” and now the pair have dropped a video for it, too. Sure, there are some moments of footage from the film, but the visual also includes Lil Baby rapping from the court, Kirk playing piano courtside, and even cute clips of younger players getting their hoop on. It’s the kind of song that a move about overcoming struggle definitely needs for that joyful, final moment, and slates along other songs of the summer remarkably well. Check out the clip above.

Lil Tecca Does Battle With LeBron James In The Digitized ‘Gametime’ Video With Aminé

The release of the long-awaited Space Jam sequel/reboot A New Legacy is right around the corner and promotional synergy for the film and its related products reaches peak levels in Lil Tecca’s video “Gametime” from the recently released soundtrack.

Not only does Tecca’s track — which features a verse and a hook from Portland rapper Aminé — appear on the soundtrack, but the video revolves around the two rappers linking up on Xbox for a session of the New Legacy tie-in game. However, rather than being an arcade-style basketball sim — something the gaming world desperately needs at the moment — the game is a side-scrolling beat-em-up starring an animated LeBron James fighting his way through hordes of enemies a la nostalgic ’90s faves like The Simpsons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Tecca, who wasn’t even alive when any of the above products came out, gets digitized into the game alongside LeBron, helping him defeat the animated legions of bad guys while showcasing the colorfully retro gameplay. I still say the game should have been an NBA Jam style basketball sim with Bugs Bunny, but if a beat-em-up isn’t your thing, there’s a Candy Crush update and some LeBron-themed DLC coming to Fortnite, as well.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is in theaters and streaming on HBO Max starting 7/16. The soundtrack is out now on Republic Records. Get it here.

The Artists On The ‘Space Jam’ Soundtrack Show Their Hoop Skills In A Fun Reveal Video

When the original Space Jam premiered in 1996 one of the elements that made it so iconic for kids of the era was its accompanying soundtrack, which is widely regarded as one of the best-produced film soundtracks of all time. Its eclectic collection of hip-hop, R&B, and pop artists was a hit, highlighting the increasing popularity of rap and its influence over the basketball world. So, naturally, for LeBron James’ sequel, Space Jam: A New Legacy, the bar is rather high — both for the film itself and for its soundtrack, which will likely be instantly compared to its groundbreaking predecessor.

Today, exactly one month before the film’s release — the soundtrack drops one week before — Warner Bros. pictures introduced the soundtrack’s “starting lineup” with a fun reveal video showing which of today’s stars have earned placement on what will undoubtedly be one of the more listened to soundtracks of the year. The video also shows off each star’s relative level of hoop skills and let’s just say it’s a good thing LeBron has the Looney Tunes on his team because some of these passes are looking rough.

Of course, stars like 24kGoldn, Aminé, Anthony Ramos, Big Freedia, Brockhampton, Chance The Rapper, Cordae, Duckwrth, G-Eazy, John Legend, Jonas Brothers, Joyner Lucas, Kash Doll, Kirk Franklin, Leon Bridges, Lil Baby, Lil Tecca, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, P-Lo, Saint JHN, Salt-N-Pepa, Saweetie, Symba, and White Dave are here to rap or sing and not hoop — although Dame D.O.L.L.A. is in there, pulling double duty as he also plays one of the villainous Goon Squad players in the movie.

The New Legacy soundtrack is due 7/9 via Republic Records and WB Watertower Music. The film itself hits theaters 7/16.
