It has been reported that 2004 Number 1 overall Draft Pick in the MLB Matt Bush was arrested in Arlington, Texas this past weekend on charges of driving while intoxicated as well as evading and causing an accident that resulted in bodily injury.

Arlington Police reported that officers initially attempted to pull over Bush after he was spotted “driving erratically” in his Lincoln Aviator on Friday evening. Police claim Bush managed to evade them by speeding away. Shortly after, Bush ran a red light at a nearby intersection, causing a multi-car accident. Even then, the 38-year-old former baseball star tried to run away from the scene on foot, but a group of Good Samaritans pinned him down until police could detain him.

After refusing to conduct a sobriety test, Bush was arrested and charged with one count of DWI, one count of accident involving injury and one count of evading.

Bush was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Diego Padres in 2004, but was plagued by numerous off-the-field issues before his professional career even began. In March 2012, while playing in the minor leagues, Bush was arrested after running over a motorcyclist’s head with his SUV and was sentenced to 51 months in prison.

When Bush finally made his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers in 2016, he appeared in a total of 217 games with the Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers, who traded for Bush in August 2022. Bush made 12 appearances for the Brewers during the 2023 season, posting a less than mediocre 9.58 ERA, ultimately being released by the team in July 2023.

SOURCE SPORTS: Mets and Phillies Split First Two Games In NLDS, Game 3 In Citi Field

After a roller coaster of comeback wins against the Milwaukee Brewers last week, the New York Mets took Game 1 against the Phillies 6-2, but the Phils squeaked by the Mets 7-6 in Game 2, which brings the series to Citi Field today(October 8) for the tie breaker and who will take the lead in the NLDS.

Game 1 was one of the most exciting games of the 2024 MLB postseason, with the Mets scoring five of their six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the opening of the series in Citizens Bank Park on Saturday. Even with Kyle Schwarber’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the first, leading the Phillies’ momentum, still didn’t keep the Amazins’ bats from cracking in the top of the eighth inning. The moment that Zack Wheeler left the mound, who kept New York to just one run throughout seven innings, the Mets took full advantage, driving in five runs on five hits. With Game 1 being the fourth comeback win for the Mets in the past week and a chance to bring the series back to Citi Field, it’s almost as if the Mets’ pennant position is destined.

The second of the two games put the NL East Division-leading Phillies in a comparable situation, knowing that they had to go back to New York for at minimum two more games against the Mets and their rivalrous crowd. Nick Castellanos could’ve possibly saved the postseason for Philly, hitting a walk-off single to left field to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the Phils’ 7-6 win over the Mets in Game 2.

Castellanos ran to first base, dropped his helmet then ran back to home plate, where he met his son Liam.

“Lets Go!”, the father/son duo yelled to each other. “The best,” Castellanos said in his post-game interview with MLB.com. “Because when I’m old, and no one cares about me as a baseball player anymore, we’re going to be at home and be able to remember and look back at that.”

This NDLS Mets vs. Phillies series is so evenly matched, that down to today’s upcoming game, the Phillies and Mets record against each other in their past 100 outings, going back to August 2018, the record is split 50-50. Even in their past 1,000 games, dating back to July 1966 when the Mets franchise was just a few years old, the record is still in splitsville, 500-500. This rivalry leads up to the anticipation of Game 3, which will the give the winner the lead in this series and ultimately, bragging rights in their beef on the diamond.

SOURCE SPORTS: Michael Jordan Sues NASCAR And Its CEO Jim France

Reports have confirmed that basketball legend Michael Jordan is suing NASCAR and it’s CEO Jim France, calling them “monopolistic bullies.”

Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports filed a lawsuit in a federal court in North Carolina yesterday(October 2) after the two teams say they refused to sign updated pacts with NASCAR over “unfair terms.”

Both teams demanded more when it came to extending their charter agreements beyond 2024, but neither MASCAR or France was willing to negotiate their share of the revenue. Both teams claim the org. pressured them into agreeing to a “take-it-or-leave-it” offer that if they did not agree to, they could risk losing their charters in the future.

Both teams filed a suit and an injunction that would allow them to compete in the 2025 season without releasing their antitrust claims by putting pen to France’s paper.

Both teams said that they wanted to stifle France’s and NASCAR’s “unlawful monopoly power.”

“I love the sport of racing and the passion of our fans,” Jordan said of the lawsuit in a statement, “but the way NASCAR is run today is unfair to teams, drivers, sponsors, and fans. Today’s action shows I’m willing to fight for a competitive market where everyone wins.”

Jordan’s 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin said, “When I look around, I see that the best and most competitive sports in the world understand that when teams thrive, fans benefit, and that everyone who invests in making the sport a success should share fairly in that success. With the right changes, we can certainly make that a reality in racing.”

Former Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy was arrested last night for what Scottsdale Police are calling a case of “extreme DUI”.

Scottsdale PD reported that they pulled Lacy over Monday night after they noticed the NFL star committing several moving violations. Before the start of the doubleheader at Truist Park against the Atlanta Braves, the Mets knew one thing; all they needed to win was ONE game to clinch a playoff spot. Both teams knew that whoever won the first game would have an advantage since they will have already planted their flag in the playoffs. Well, the Amazin’ Mets did not have any intention of losing game 161 of their regular season, edging the Braves 8-7, scoring their eight runs in the last two innings of the game and securing their Wild Card berth. Atlanta clapped back in Game 2, shutting out the Mets 3-0 and securing their Wild Card berth as well.

The 89th win of the year by the skin of their teeth is right on time for a team that was 11 games under .500 before June. The Mets seemed to be losing their grip on a playoff berth when Mets MVP Francisco Lindor was benched for a back injury, but he was in the lineup at the right time in Game 1, blasting a two-run shot off Pierce Johnson in the ninth inning. Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies almost foiled the spoil for the Mets in the eighth, belting a two-bagger with the bases loaded off Maton.

The Braves had no plans of being swept at home to cap the regular season, jumping in the lead in the first inning. The Braves didn’t allow the Mets to score one run thanks to Grant Holmes who posted up 4Ks on the mound for Atlanta in four innings and RHP Daysbel Hernandez, who took the win.

Below is the updated bracket for MLB postseason

Screenshot 2024 09 30 at 2.29.16 PM

The baseball world lost an integral piece of history yesterday as it was announced that Osvaldo “Ozzie” Virgil Sr., passed away on Sunday. He was 92 years old.

The Dominican Republic native migrated to the Bronx in the late 40s, where Virgil graduated from high school then enlisted in the US marines from 1950-1952. I n1953, the 21-year-old Virgil embarked on his baseball career that included nine seasons in the major leagues with the Giants (two stints), Tigers, Athletics, Orioles, and Pirates. He was the first non-white player for the Detroit organization in 1958, 11 years after jackie Robinson broke the color barrier when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. At the time, Virgil was considered the first Black Tigers player, but he was the first Dominican-born baseball player to play in the majors and the first Latino Tigers player.

Following his playing career, Virgil spent 19 seasons as an MLB coach with the Giants, Expos, Padres, and Mariners from 1968-88. He served as third base coach under Hall of Fame manager Dick Williams with the Expos (1977-81), Padres (1982-85) and Mariners (1986-88).

Virgil’s son, Ozzie Jr., played 11 MLB seasons with the Phillies, Braves, and Blue Jays from 1980-90. He went to the 1985 All-Star Game with the Phillies and the 1987 All-Star Game with the Braves.

“He means a lot,” the Yankees’ Juan Soto said last year. “He was the first Dominican coming to the big leagues and opened the doors for a lot of Dominicans — and not only Dominicans, for all Latin players.”

In 2008 with the Detroit Free Press, the late Federal Judge Damon Keith said, “Ozzie was not white, but he wasn’t Black, and he was caught in between through no fault of his own.”
