After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a historic Super Bowl victory Sunday night in Arizona, Patrick Mahomes gave that infamous pause before he declared he was going where every NFL player longs to go after the big game: “I’m Going to Disneyland!’’

As confetti rained down around him, Mahomes looked directly into the TV cameras and shouted that iconic phrase that has been shouted after dozens of Super Bowl games. His proclamation is the centerpiece of Disney’s annual Super Bowl commercial, airing now on social media sites and major TV networks nationwide.

Mahomes will star in a colorful and high-energy cavalcade through Disneyland park in California. Guests in Disneyland park can watch the celebratory cavalcade as they travel past Sleeping Beauty Castle and down Main Street, U.S.A., at 1:30 p.m. PT.*  Before the cavalcade, Mahomes will spend the morning with family and friends experiencing some of the park’s most popular attractions, interacting with beloved Disney characters and generally having the time of his life at The Happiest Place on Earth. And even more special this year, Disneyland Resort is joining in the celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary, honoring its incredible storytellers, creators and fans. The Disney100 celebration at Disneyland Resort is now in full swing and features a new attraction, two stunning new nighttime spectaculars, dazzling décor, special food and beverages, and more!

It will be another incredible day after Mahomes monumental evening Sunday when he led the Chiefs to a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the biggest game of the year, one that included two Black starting quarterbacks for the first time in Super Bowl history (Mahomes and Jalen Hurts). He threw three touchdown passes including two in the fourth quarter to propel his team to the win and catapult himself into Disney history with his inclusion in the national TV spot and visit to Disneyland Resort. It was the second championship in the last four years for Kansas City.

Mahomes is now a member of the fraternity of NFL megastars who have been a part of Disney’s long-standing Super Bowl tradition that began in 1987 when New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms first appeared in the commercial following his team’s Super Bowl victory.

SOURCE SPORTS: Michael Irvin Pulled From Super Bowl After Woman’s Unspecified Complaint In Hotel

Several reports hav confirmed that NFL legend and commentator Michael Irvin has been yanked from covering the 2023 Super Bowl following a woman’s unspecified complaint at the hotel where the former Cowboy was staying.

Irvin responded to the allegations on Dallas’ “Shan & RJ” show on 105.3 the Fan on Wednesday(February 8), saying, “Sunday night … when I came into the hotel, they asked what I did and I said, ‘I just went straight to the room,’” Irvin said. “But I guess I had met somebody in the lobby. Talked to somebody in the lobby for about a minute and then I went to my room. And then after I got up there, they said they had to move me in the hotel. I said, ‘Move me in the hotel for what?’”

Irvin went on saying, “They said, ‘Well, last night you walked in, you talked to somebody.’ I said, ‘I didn’t talk to anybody. I went straight to the room.’ And then they showed it on camera that I did talk to somebody. I talked to this girl for about a minute. I don’t know what — they didn’t show it to me. They told it to me. I didn’t see it. But that’s why they moved me, because I guess the girl said I said something to her within that minute that we talked, and so they moved me.”

The NFL Hall Of Famer remained adamant about his innocence, stating that there was no physical contact beyond a handshake.

Irvin is a famed sportscaster for ESPN and a football legend in his own right, with the Cowboys famed wide receiver being inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2007.

SOURCE SPORTS: #BHM: Doug Williams First Black QB To Win Super Bowl 35 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2023 02 03 at 9.53.51 AM

As we wait to see the Kansas City Chiefs play the Philadelphia Eagles for the Super Bowl LVII crown, it is important to remember Black History Month runs in tandem with this unofficial American holiday. Despite declining viewership due to the Kaepernick controversy, the NFL is still one of the most-watched sports in the country and is dominated by African-Americans who currently make up two-thirds of the league. With that much Black representation in the NFL comes a lot of Black History including the first Black Quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl.

In 1988, it was Broncos legend and future Hall-of-Famer John Elway versus a then-unknown Redskins backup Quarterback Doug Williams.

Prior to the 1987 season, Williams had not played in multiple NFL games in a season since 1982 as a Quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Williams spent a period of time playing for the USFL team, the Arizona Outlaws, but following the folding of the USFL, Williams was picked up by the Washington Redskins.

For the 1988 championship, the Denver Broncos took on the Washington Redskins. Both teams took four losses in the regular season but the Redskins had more wins thanks to a tie game the Broncos had during the season against the Green Bay Packers.

Elway was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl game and won the Most Valuable Player award as well that season. The Broncos had been to the Super Bowl the year before but lost to a different NFC East team, the New York Giants, so the city was thirsty for another shot at glory.

As for the Redskins, before there were thoughts of a Super Bowl, Williams was competing with ‘Skins quarterback Jay Schroeder throughout the regular season for the starting job. According to Redskins.com, a lackluster performance from Schroeder in the final game of the season and stud level play in the same game from Williams became the deciding factor of who would be the starter going into the post-season.

Things started out slow for Washington in the Super Bowl. The Denver Broncos got out to a quick start with a 10-0 lead, but Williams and the Washington Redskins rallied scoring 42 unanswered points against the back-to-back AFC champions. Williams threw for 340 yards passing and 4 touchdowns earning him Super Bowl MVP honors.

Amar’e Stoudemire Battery Charges Against Daughter Dismissed

amare

Back in December, social media was shocked when Amar’e Stoudemire’s mugshot was posted following his arrest. The retired NBA player was arrested for allegedly slapping and punching his teen daughter following her graduation from the University of Miami.

Apparently the charges have been dropped…

CBS News reports:

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office on Tuesday confirmed to CBS Miami that misdemeanor battery charges have been dropped against Amar’e Stoudemire, the former NBA star who had been accused of punching and slapping one of his teen daughters last month.

In an emailed statement, the state attorney’s office said “the case was dropped due to the failure of the victim to cooperate in the prosecution of the criminal case.”

He also released a statement following his arrest.

“Over the last 24 hours, an incident at my family home led to my being charged with assaulting my daughter. It is an allegation based on a report that does not square with the facts. I am of the Jewish faith, today Jewish people all over the world celebrate Hanukkah and hear the story of how we fought wickedness. I believe that ‘whatever is hateful to you, do not do to others.’ As the investigation unfolds, the facts will show the allegations to be groundless as my daughter’s medical condition is not the result of being assaulted by a father who is nearly 7 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds. I could never see myself assaulting any person, especially my children. I respect, protect, and love my family, particularly my children. As a father, I ask for your grace as we secure our space and privacy.”

Shannon Sharpe addressed his courtside altercation at the Lakers/Grizzlies game on the most recent episode of Undisputed.

“I want to apologize for my behavior,” Sharpe said. “For the last six and a half years, I’ve preached accountability and responsibility. And I take full responsibility for what transpired. It does not matter what Dillon Brooks said or how many times he said it.”

The hall of fame tight end added: “Me being the responsible person. Me having the platform that I have and having so many people look up to me, I was wrong. I should have lowered the temperature in the arena. Instead, I turned the temperature up, and I let it get out of hand.”

He then apologized to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, to the Lakers organization, and to the fans for “any harm or unwanted attention” he brought. He even apologized to Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant.

For those who might’ve missed it, Shannon Sharpe got into it with what seemed like the whole Memphis Grizzlies team on their Friday night game against the Lakers. Sharpe apparently told Dillon Brooks he was too small to guard LeBron, to which Brooks responded “f**k you.” Sharpe responded, and that’s when the whole team got involved.

SOURCE SPORTS: Season 29 Of Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel Debuts January 24

The HBO Original series Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel will return for its 29th season on Tuesday, January 24 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT). Winner of 36 sports Emmy® Awards, the new season will debut on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max.

REAL SPORTS examines the role Hall of Famer Brett Favre is alleged to have played in redirecting millions of dollars away from the poorest residents in the country’s poorest state to his own projects. David Scott reports. Producer: Max Gershberg.

When Damar Hamlin collapsed on Monday Night Football, it was a shocking event that stunned audiences on national television. The sight of a healthy young athlete going into sudden cardiac arrest was hard for most people to comprehend. Yet, sudden cardiac arrest happens more than 100 times per year to high school athletes around the country.  Since only 16 states mandate automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at high school sporting events, the result of these occurrences is often tragic. Soledad O’Brien reports. Producer: Nick Dolin.

Five years ago, REAL SPORTS met Reichen Posey and Jordan Murphy, two survivors of separate mass shootings – Sandy Hook and Aurora, respectively – who bonded over football. Today, Posey is a 6’2” 240-pound defensive end that finished a standout junior season at Murphy’s old high school, where Murphy also serves as an assistant coach. Soledad O’Brien reports. Producers: Katie Melone, Stephen Lorenzo.
