PinkPantheress Embraces Her Inner Barbie On “Angel”

PinkPantheress, the It Girl of bedroom pop is back with a new song called “Angel.” The singer’s third new song of the year is also the third song released from the soundtrack to Greta Gerwhig’s upcoming Barbie movie. The track features production from frequent Lady Gaga collaborator BloodPop a follows many of the sonic motifs PinkPantheress has been flirting with for years. The combination of acoustic guitar and strings with a stable consistent beat gives it a vintage 2000s pop feel.

PinkPantheress is the third artist to officially drop her contribution to the Barbie movie following Dua Lipa and Karol G. The full soundtrack will drop alongside the film next month. The list of stars lining the soundtrack is a who’s who of recent stars from a number of genres. Recent breakout stars like Fifty Fifty and GAYLE line up alongside superstars like Khalid and Lizzo. For many, the most anticipated new song comes from Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. The pair are linking up for the second time this year and sampling AQUA’s classic song “Barbie Girl.”

PinkPantheress Gets Angelic

Both of PinkPantheress’ previous singles have made big splashes in their own ways. Her collaboration with Ice Spice “Boys a liar Pt. 2” has been one of the biggest hit songs of 2023 so far. It was both artists’ first taste of the top 10 of the Hot 100, though Ice Spice was back a few months later with her “Princess Diana” remix. Her other new release “Way Back” sees her teaming up with EDM legend Skrillex and rapper Trippie Redd.

Those songs followed her Take Me Home EP which dropped late last year. The tracklist was short but contained a viral hit in the original “Boys a Liar.” She dropped her debut mixtape To Hell with It in 2021. It introduced many to her style of very short songwriting and lo-fi poppy production. “Angel” is her first new song this year that isn’t a collaborative effort. What do you think of the new PinkPantheress song and the entire Barbie soundtrack so far? Let us know in the comment section below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Johnny, my baby, tell me all the details for tomorrow
Johnny, my baby’s hands, they grip my fingers when they’re cold
He could be the one to make me never freeze again because

The Weeknd Drops “The Lure” And “World Class Sinner,” Featuring Lily Rose-Depp

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, The Weeknd revealed his plans to release new music in conjunction with each episode of HBO’s The Idol. Alongside a photo from the show, he announced that he would be kicking off this initiative this week. He did so by dropping Jocelyn’s pop song titled “World Class Sinner” and the theme score called “The Lure.” Jocelyn, for those who have not watched the show, is Lily Rose-Depp’s character. She is a pop star on the rise who is readying a new single for release in the first episode. In an Instagram post, The Weeknd shared his excitement for fans to hear the soundtrack.

“I was planning on dropping the whole soundtrack for idol by the finale, but I’m too hyped…” Abel said in his Instagram post. “Instead, I wanna drop new music from the show every week with each episode. I’m excited for you guys to hear what we’ve been cooking and all these new incredible artists that are a part of this show… this week… Jocelyn’s pop song ‘world class sinner’ and ‘the lure’ (theme score)… episode 2 this Sunday.” So, it looks like the songs from the previous week’s episode may be dropping the week after they air. That means that we can likely expect whichever songs are in this week’s episode to drop next Friday. For the time being, however, fans can enjoy the show’s first two offerings.

The Weeknd And Lily Rose-Depp Are Word Class Sinners

The first two songs that The Weeknd dropped from The Idol may not please his fans. However, that is not because they are bad – they are just not extremely focused on The Weeknd as an artist. “The Lure,” a dreamy score for the opening of the show, does feature some of Abel’s vocals near the end. “World Class Sinner,” on the other hand, is almost entirely Lily Rose-Depp. She sings about how open-minded she is, sexually speaking. “You can pull my hair, touch me anywhere,” she coos on the chorus.

While the music may be good, many fans complained about the explicit nature of the show. Some had some very strong insults for the first episode. However, The Weeknd contends that people just don’t understand it. In fact, he compared it to the response when he first released music. “When I first started making music, it was the exact same thing,” Abel said. “It was provocative, and I knew it was going to be tough for people. And a lot of people didn’t like it. Not to compare it, but I feel that this is kind of like that again. This is not going to be for everybody, and that’s fine. We’re not politicians.” What do you think of the new tracks? Sound off in the comments below to let us know!

Quotable Lyrics:

‘Cause I know that you
Don’t really know how to handle it
So get down on your knees and
Get ready to become my b*tch

Metro Boomin Didn’t Try To Outdo “Sunflower” In New Soundtrack

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has taken over everything since it came out. The film has received rave reviews and continues to pull in huge box office numbers. On top of that it has a number of promotional tie-ins including a soundtrack executive produced by Metro Boomin. In a recent interview with Variety Metro talked about the shadow of the first film’s soundtrack. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse preceded this film and had a soundtrack that featured “Sunflower.” The collaboration between Post Malone and Swae Lee went on to be a massive hit song. In developing a soundtrack for the sequel Metro Boomin made it clear he wasn’t trying to outdo the success of that song.

“‘Sunflower’ was a great record — was it 17 times platinum or something like that, something insane? And things like that don’t happen often, so I didn’t even want to go into it with the mind of how am I going to top “Sunflower”?” Metro explained. In fact, the song is now 18 times platinum which is just one in a long list of commercial accomplishments it made. The track spent 33 weeks in the top 10 of the Hot 100. It also ended up as the 4th best-selling song of 2019. “So more than trying to make a song that’s 20 times platinum, I just wanted to focus on making a great album and a listening experience from top to bottom that you’re just going to want to keep playing,” he added.

Later on in the interview, he clarified his ambitions for the soundtrack. “So there might not be a “Sunflower” or a song that’s like 15 or even 10 times platinum or anything like that, but there might be a bunch of songs that people really love and make and integrate as a part of their everyday lives.”

The soundtrack features an impressive roster of collaborators from the hip-hop world and beyond. Future, Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, and 21 Savage make up just some of the many artists lending their voices and work to the various songs. Let us know what you think about the Across The Spider-Verse soundtrack in the comments below.

Metro Boomin Reacts To His Cameo In “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse”

Metro Boomin reacts to his cameo appearance in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse in a new video that has surfaced on social media. In addition to handling the soundtrack of the film, Metro lent his voice to a minor character.

In the video, Metro can be seen laughing as the crowd cheers him on in response to the cameo. Following the release of Across The Spider-Verse, Metro sat down with Variety for an interview in which he discussed voicing the character.

He told the outlet: “That was fun too. It was another door to open, to peek through. Whether there is some more opportunities to do things like this in the future, it just makes a light bulb go. But it wasn’t difficult to integrate. I was coming by for a screening and Phil and Chris were just like, ‘come by to the screening an hour early, and we could just run some lines downstairs.’ But they ended up writing these lines for a Metro Spider character, which really blew my mind. And at this point, I’m still not thinking it’s going to land in the movie. So we just read the lines before the screening one morning, and everybody just bust out laughing. But then for them to animate the character and put him in the movie with my dreads and the bandana, it was just so surreal. Especially coming as I’m a lifelong Marvel and Spider-Man fan.”

Metro Boomin Taps Nas To Aid On New “Spider-Man” Soundtrack With “Nas Morales” Song: Stream

Metro Boomin season is once again in full effect thanks to the Atlanta-based producer’s work on the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack. It’s an undeniably sad time of year for the creative as he mourns the one-year anniversary of his mother’s shocking and untimely death. He shared a heartfelt tribute to her on social media to commemorate the occasion but has otherwise been pouring his heart and soul into various projects while working through his grief.

The animated film’s soundtrack finds Metro linking up with some of the industry’s finest, including 21 Savage, 2 Chainz, and Offset. While many titles on the 13-track effort are joint ones, the closing song, “Nas Morales” finds Nas operating solo over an infectious beat from the Savage Mode hitmaker. His lyrics include various spider references, such as “Shoot a web, glidin’ through the sky, through the air / Dancin’ through the buildings, Fred Astaire, bunch of skyscrapers everywhere” on the chorus.

Metro Boomin Says His Future Collab Album Is “Next Up”

Metro Boomin says that his collaborative album with Future will be his next project. When asked what he’ll be working on after the release of his Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack, Metro further teased the upcoming joint album.

“So now that the soundtrack is out… when’s the album with Future,” one user asked Metro on Twitter. He replied: “Next up,” without giving any additional details.

Metro first teased the idea of dropping a full project with Future following the release of the rapper’s 2022 album I NEVER LIKED YOU, on which Metro is noticeably absent. Speaking with Ebro Darden, he explained why the two didn’t link up for the album. “Let me tell you why. [Future] actually finished most of the album at my studio in LA,” he told Darden at the time. “That’s my brother, but we’re working on some things. At first, we were going to put a couple of songs with me and him on the album, but we had took them off because I had talked to him. I was like, ‘Look, the last time anybody’s really heard a song from me and you was ‘Mask Off.’ So instead of us randomly throwing one or two songs we did on here, we got to wait and just give them a joint.’”

Things cooled off for a time as Metro worked on the Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack, but earlier this year, he confirmed that the collaborative album will drop by the end of 2023.

Metro Boomin On His Future Collaboration

Metro and Future have worked together numerous times over the years. While performing together at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena in January, Metro reflected on their relationship. “You know, Pluto, that’s my brother. We’ve been at it for a long time. This whole superhero moment, it’s like the beginning of our phase two,” he said. “We haven’t had a song out since ‘Mask Off,’ they’ve been on our heads. With this, and then the whole State Farm thing, it’s starting to slowly put people on notice: we crankin’ that shit back up too.”

Miles Morales returns this Friday with the release of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. However, it’s the film’s soundtrack that has many non-Marvel fans ecstatic. Metro Boomin will bring on some of rap’s most revered lyricists for the upcoming Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse soundtrack. The St. Louis producer shared Weezy’s Spidersona on his Instagram post. “The best rapper alive Lil Wayne is confirmed for the @spiderversemovie soundtrack available everywhere June 2nd!!” he captioned the post. Afterward, he confirmed Metro also confirmed Nas as a feature on the forthcoming effort.

As impressive as the features are already, it wouldn’t be a Metro Boomin effort without a collaboration from 21 Savage, who he also confirmed would appear on the tracklist. Additionally, A$AP Rocky, who he apparently has loads of music with, will also appear on the project. We’ll also find Metro Boomin and 2 Chainz connect for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse OST. At this rate, it seems like Metro won’t be releasing a single, leaving us waiting until Friday’s release date.

Nas, 21 Savage & A$AP Rocky Confirmed

The star-studded tracklist will certainly have bangers to ride out to this summer. Even though it’s been a few months since Metro Boomin released Heroes & Villains, his upcoming soundtrack for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is already shaping up to be an incredible follow-up by the features alone.
