Snoop Dogg on ice? Not really. But he may hit Canada for a few more hockey games as he has joined an ownership group that is targeting a purchase of the Ottawa Senators.

According to The Athletic, Uncle Snoop has aligned with Neko Sparks, who has been chasing the hockey franchise since January 2023. If successful, Sparks would become the first Black owner in NHL history.

Sparks won’t be just with Snoop, he also has Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a member of the ownership group.

The Senators are not short of suitors, additional bidders include a group led by actor Ryan Reynolds and real estate mogul Christopher Bratty who are looking to bring together $1 billion to buy the team.

The Ottawa Senators finished this season with a 39-35 record and 86 points.

We’ll see who gets to the puck first.

Snoop Dogg Is In A Bidding War With A Canadian Movie Star Over Ownership Of Ottawa’s NHL Team

Of all the names you’d expect to see in a bidding war over a National Hockey League team, Snoop Dogg and Ryan Reynolds might not be the unlikeliest, but the news is sure to raise at least a few eyebrows. The Athletic reports Snoop has joined an ownership group bidding on the Ottawa Senators opposite Ryan Reynolds’ group, which is reportedly bidding $1 billion for the club and supposedly includes its own musician, The Weeknd. Snoop’s proposed partner in the investment, an indie film producer named Neko Sparks, wants to be the NHL’s first Black owner.

With Snoop as his partner, that goal could be within reach; Snoop’s sweeteners for their deal include his services as an analyst — Chance The Rapper’s recurring SNL character Lazlo Holmes springs to mind here — as well as a rinkside fixture throughout the 2023-2024 season. Certainly, the opportunity to see Snoop in person could boost attendance; likewise, his hilarious sideline commentary at previous hockey games has spawned numerous memes, which could help viewership of televised games.

On Instagram, Snoop reiterated his interest, writing, “Amazing what Neko Sparks is trying to do in Ottawa & I’m looking forward to being a part of that ownership team. I wanna bring hockey to our community.” He already sponsors youth football in his hometown and loves taking part in basketball, boxing, wrestling, and even video gaming events, so if anyone has both the clout and the experience to get Black people watching hockey en masse (again, see Lazlo Holmes), it’s Snoop.

Snoop Dogg Joins Bid For Ottawa Senators Ownership

Snoop Dogg has become more than just a music icon. The legendary entertainer has always been a huge sports fan. Including wearing his heart on his sleeve for his Los Angeles Lakers recent playoff run. As well as stealing the show at this past year’s Wrestlemania. Now, Snoop is looking to extend his reach to more than just being a sports fan. The Rap legend is looking to become a sports franchise owner. However, it may be in the sport that everyone would least expect.

On Monday, Snoop made an Instagram post expressing his excitement about the possibility of becoming an NHL owner. The Ottawa Senators are the latest NHL franchise looking for new ownership. “Amazing what @neko_sparks is trying to do in Ottawa & I’m looking forward to being apart of that ownership team. I WANNA BRING HOCKEY TO OUR COMMUNITY,” Snoop captioned in a photo of Sparks being connected to the Senators. However, Snoop isn’t the only celebrity interested in becoming an owner of the NHL franchise.

Snoop Dogg Wants To Bring The NHL To The Culture

Candian megastar Ryan Reynolds is also part of a separate ownership bid for the Ottawa franchise. Reynolds already has some experience as a sports owner. As the ‘Deadpool’ star, along with Rob McElhenney, are owners of the National League soccer team Wrexham A.F.C. However, Reynolds has long desired a chance to become an NHL owner. However, it doesn’t seem that the franchise is leaning one way or another with the direction they are looking for new ownership.

Snoop is excited at the opportunity to be a part of the first Black ownership in the NHL. If the bid, including Snoop, becomes official, the move will be a massive milestone for the sport. However, nothing has been made official by the franchise or current ownership. But if it does become official, does a team owned by Snoop Dogg easily become the most popular in the league? What would the ownership mean for the Senators franchise? Let us know what you think in our comment section. For the latest news on HIp-Hop and sports, keep it right here with HNHH.

Snoop Dogg Among Stars Honoring Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson is a country music icon. Born in 1933, Nelson’s music career began with a failed record in 1956 while he was working as a radio announcer. However, just two years later, he would get a job as a club singer in Houston. By 1961, Nelson was making a name for himself with music that went against the traditional sound of his new home, Nashville. Nashville would become the place that Nelson was best associated with as his stardom grew.

Nelson has since gone on to record 99 albums, 73 of them solo. His most recent album, I Don’t Know A Thing About Love, was released in March 2023. He has also appeared in over 30 films, as well as writing and co-authoring numerous books. His last film role was in the 2018 musical film, Paradox. Willie Nelson also loves weed and thus, is one of the most vocal advocates for marijuana legalization. At the time of writing, 31 US states have either decriminalized or legalized weed. Sadly, this does not include Nelson’s home state of Texas.

Stars Show Out For Willie Nelson’s 90th

To celebrate Willie Nelson turning 90 years old on April 29, the music world showed out for a special concert at The Hollywood Bowl. The concert was called Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90, A Star-Studded Concert Celebrating Willie’s 90th Birthday and featured a host of big-name musical stars. Speaking to PEOPLE about the event, Nelson said “I have been so fortunate this far that I just hope for things to continue the way they are. I think it would be too much to ask for anything more than what I already have experienced.”

While everyone from Beck to Dave Matthews performed, perhaps the most special guest was Snoop Dogg himself. Snoop and Nelson share a special bond thanks to their mutual love of marijuana. “I love Snoop. He and I are great friends — have been forever. It was a lot of fun just hanging out and getting to do some things — Snoop and I,” Nelson told PEOPLE. The pair performed Nelson’s 2012 hit Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die together at the concert.

Snoop Dogg, GaryVee Drop New Single “Please Take A Step Back”

Snoop Dogg has released a new collaboration with an unexpected partner. GaryVee, who is credited as an artist on the song alongside Snoop, is a serial entrepreneur and internet marketing expert. The two have joined forces to release a new song titled “Please Take A Step Back.” Snoop Dogg is going to be featured in Gary’s new NFT collection. The song is intended to serve as a source of musical inspiration for the upcoming collection, as well as the theme for Gary’s well-known YouTube vlog series.

GaryVee had a lot to say about the project. “As a fan, Snoop has been a part of my life for 30 years. I could not communicate to you what 18-year-old Gary is feeling right now,” he said. “The idea of taking a step back has been something that’s been woven through my content for 15 years. Every time I say ‘patience’ in my content, that’s saying take a step back.” The artist went on to explain the importance of taking a moment to figure out who you are. “Every time I’m saying ‘be empathetic and care about the other person’, every time I’m saying ‘be self aware, know yourself,’” he continued. “What I’m really saying to people is take a step back, take a breath, take a beat, and figure out who the f*ck you are.”

Snoop and Gary Give Life Lessons

According to a press release for the song, it will also welcome participants to the 2nd annual VeeCon. The conference plays host to many programs with discussions about world business leaders. The conference will also host performances from “superstar” artists. The program will be held in Indianapolis in late May. It is unclear if Snoop plans to attend or perform. There will, however, be an animated video for the song. It is slated to drop on May 9th.

The lyrics on “Please Take a Step Back” may come off as a little bit corny to some. Others, however, may find it refreshing. On the track, Snoop raps about following your dreams, setting goals, and financial literacy. It isn’t exactly what you would expect, but you never know what’s going to happen in 2023. Oddly enough, because of the way that Snoop performs the lyrics, the message really gets across. At the midway point of the song, GaryVee has some words of inspiration that play as a sample. “Recognize that you can attack the world in a totally different way,” he says. “Because you were lucky enough to be born during this era.”

Quotable Lyrics:

Now take a few steps back back, adjust ya cap,
Integrate, calculate, ’bout to whip you into shape,
Re-invest in real estate,
And try to stack a hunnid different meals on ya plate,
Deals on ya plate,
Ha, yea it’s true that dreams become true,
If it happened for me, then it could happen for you
