Simone Biles Wins Sixth World All-Around Title

Simone Biles added yet another medal to her ever-growing cabinet, securing the all-around title at the World Championships in Belgium. A decade after winning her first World title in the same city, Biles beat reigning World champion (and Beyoncé fan) Rebeca Andrade by 1.633 points. The medal was Biles’ 34th across the World Championships and Olympics, and her 21st gold. The two medals she has now won at the World Championships make her the most decorated gymnast of all time. She had entered the Championships tied with former Belarusian gymnast Vitaly Scherbo.

Furthermore, Biles’ time at the Championships is far from done. She is set to compete in four individual events over the weekend – vault, bars, beam, and floor. She is the gold medal favorite in at least three of them. Watching her perform, with only the smallest of errors in her floor routine, you wouldn’t think that she had returned to competitive gymnasts three months ago after a two-year hiatus following the Tokyo Olympics. Biles has already confirmed her spot at the Paris Games next year and will now look to push her medal tally to even greater heights.

Andrade, Runner-Up To Biles, Wants To Meet Beyoncé

Rebeca Andrade will have to settle for silver in the all-around at least as she was unable to hold off the resurgence of Simone Biles. However, Andrade captured the hearts of much of the audience as she fought valiantly at this Championship. A Beyoncé superfan, Andrade’s floor routine for the Championships was set to “Break My Soul” from RENAISSANCE. Her silver medal performance at Tokyo 2020 featured a floor routine set to “Single Ladies”.

“Whoever is able to help Rebeca meet her, it would be very interesting. Rebeca is [a] super Beyoncé fan,” her coach Francisco Porath told Olympics.com. RENAISSANCE is a fitting phrase for Andrade, who will compete for Olympic gold next year. Her World Championship in Liverpool last year came after years of ACL tears before the Olympics. Furthermore, her risk of re-injury means that she has had to be incredibly selective about when and where she competes.

That innocuous visit spiraled into a journey filled with twists, flips, and unparalleled achievements. Fast forward to 2023, this pint-sized powerhouse, with her impeccable routines and unyielding spirit, not only accumulated countless medals but also amassed a net worth of $16 million, as outlined by EssentiallySports.

Simone Biles Leads Team USA To Seventh Consecutive World Gymnastics Title

Team USA has secured its seventh consecutive World Gymnastics title behind the efforts of Simone Biles and her teammates. Despite a dominant performance in qualifying, the medal event was closer than expected, with the US beating Brazil by 2.199 points in Antwerp. The team gold broke the tie that Team USA had held with the Chinese men’s team for consecutive World golds. Meanwhile, that same Chinese men’s team had to settle for silver behind Japan.

However, the championships are far from done for Biles and company. Biles is favored to win four individual golds – all-around, vault, beam, and floor. Meanwhile, Shilese Jones has her eyes firmly set on the bars gold. However, beyond medaling and everything else, there is also the motivation of putting in strong performances as selection for Paris 2024 approaches.

Biles Eyeing History At Homecoming Worlds

“Back to where it all started, see you soon Belgium,” Biles told her Instagram followers via a story post after qualifying for Worlds. As alluded to by Biles, Antwerp will be something of a homecoming. A decade ago, she made her Worlds debut in the city. She cleaned up in her first-ever event, grabbing gold in the all-around and floor, silver in the vault, and bronze in the beam. Furthermore, qualification meant Biles became the first woman to be selected to represent the US at six World Championships.

Worlds also represents a chance for Biles to secure her place in Paris next year. Olympic places are available on all apparatus, as well as for the all-around champion. Furthermore, Biles is a firm favorite to qualify somewhere as she has shown that her time away has not left any rust on her performance. However, the world of gymnastics has only gotten better in recent years. This means that Biles will likely face some tough competition if she wants to take home the gold in Belgium. After an off day tomorrow, Biles will be in action on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Simone Biles Wins Three Golds In Dominant Return To Gymnastics

Simone Biles has returned to competitive gymnastics in style. In June, Biles announced that she would be competing at the U.S Classic, also known as the Core Hydration Classic, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. It marked the first time Biles had competed since taking a bronze medal in the beam event at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Earlier in that tournament, Biles had withdrawn from the Team All-Around after suffering from the “Twisties”. After the tournament, Biles announced she would be taking an extended hiatus from competition.

Biles chose not to speak with the media on the August 4 training day but waved at fans and appeared in good spirits as she joked with teammates. The US Classic serves as the final qualifier for the US Gymnastics Championships that are due to be held later this month in San Jose. It is believed that Biles’ ultimate goal is to rejoin the US Olympic Team. This would see Biles head to the 2024 Olympics. The games are are set to take place less than a year from today in Paris, France. Despite being away from the sport for two years, Biles wasted no time in dominating the competition.

Biles came away from the event with four medals – three gold and one bronze. Throughout proceedings on August 5, Biles showed just how little her time away from the sport had affected her. She won the All-Around gold by 5 points, a wild result in a sport measured in tenths of a point. Elsewhere, she picked up golds in the beam and floor events as well, while taking bronze in the uneven bars. Biles will now shift her attention to the aforementioned US Championships later this month. Furthermore, she will likely look to compete athe World Championships in Belgium at the end of September.

However, Biles didn’t win everything during the event. Biles will come away from the event $200 poorer after losing a bet to Zoe Miller, the uneven bars champion. The 17-year-old, who is set to join the prestigious LSU gymnastics team when she heads to college, twerked for the audience after completing her gold medal uneven bars routine. It appears that Biles had bet Miller on whether she would do the dance after her routine. I just lost $200 to @_.zoemiller for doing that dance celebration,” Biles posted to her Instagram. “OMG OKAY GIRL,” the caption continued.

Simone Biles Has Glorious Return To Competitive Gymnastics

On August 3, 2021, Simone Biles took bronze in the balance beam discipline at the Tokyo Olympics. A week earlier, Biles had suddenly withdrawn from the Team All-Around after suffering from a condition that gymnasts refer to as “the Twisties”. After still earning her medal in the beam event, Biles announced she would be taking a hiatus from competitive gymnastics. “I say put mental health first. Because if you don’t, then you’re not going to enjoy your sport and you’re not going to succeed as much as you want to. So it’s OK sometimes to even sit out the big competitions to focus on yourself, because it shows how strong of a competitor and person that you really are — rather than just battle through it,” Biles said of her decision.

A little over two years later and the face of US gymnastics is back. On August 4, 2023, she took part in the Core Hydration Classic just outside of Chicago. Everyone knew it was going to be a special event as Biles hit her signature Biles I floor move during the day’s training ahead of the actual meet on August 5. After solid rotations on the uneven bars and beam, she absolutely slayed on the vault. She hit three separate attempts at the Yurchenko double pike – a move only Biles has ever managed to land in competition.

Biles Prepares For First Meet In Two Years

“That was the first time she is doing it since podium training at the Olympic Games, on the hard landing,” coach Laurent Landi said of the skill after training. “Today’s been good. We wouldn’t be here if we had seen any hesitation,” Cecile Landi said when asked if Biles was still having issues with specific skills or hesitating on any twisting elements. “It’s her will to be here and as long as she tells us she’s good to go, we will continue. I had dinner with her and she told me she really wanted to give herself a chance to do it,” Landi said. “After her wedding, after everything was over, we saw a shift in her training and commitment to being back. She really wants it for herself. She’s a married woman. She’s mature. We are here to support her.”

Biles chose not to speak with the media on August 4 but waved at fans and appeared in good spirits as she joked with teammates. The meet also serves as the final qualifier for the US Gymnastics Championships that are due to be held later this month in San Jose. It is believed that Biles’ ultimate is to rejoin the US Olympic Team in time for the 2024 Olympics that are set to take place less than a year from today in Paris, France.

Simone Biles Claps Back At Wedding Day Hairstyle Haters

It was undoubtedly a weekend full of love, as several noteworthy celebrities tied the knot. Not only did Sofia Richie and her beau Elliott Grainge exchange vows, but Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and NFL player Jonathan Owens were also married in Houston. The latter ceremony took place on Saturday (April 22) and was a quaint courthouse affair with close family and friends. The 26-year-old made sure to share plenty of content with her fans on social media following the wedding, though some internet trolls had unkind comments to make about her hairstyle of choice for the big day.

Biles certainly kept it simple, wearing her shiny black inches back into a high ponytail with beautiful waves hanging by her shoulders. Around her face, some baby hairs and edges sit, unlaid, which is markedly a serious problem for some. “I’m happy for Simone Biles Owens, but mfs acting like her edges didn’t look bad is annoying,” one person wrote on Twitter. “It’s not hating to point out something factual???” they added. Thankfully, the love for the Ohio native came out on top of the hate, with many others speaking out in defence of her simple style.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens Tie the Knot

“Simone Biles is one of THEE top gymnasts we’ve ever seen, has overcome situations of abuse and other obstacles in her childhood, has defined her own success and found love and is now happily married,” one of them pointed out. “And y’all worried about her hair..?!” The newlywed caught sight of this sweet message and took time out of her day to respond. “I think they also forget I live in HOUSTON, TEXAS and I sweat those out!!” Biles pointed out.

“Soon as we stepped outside for pics,” she added. “But they can keep complaining, idc idc idc,” the athlete’s message ended, making it clear that she’s completely unbothered by the discourse surrounding her hair, or anything else to do with her and Owens’ special moment.
