P-Valley Star Brandee Evans Joins Sheryl Lee Ralph in ‘The Fabulous Four’ an Upcoming Comedy Film

Star of P-Valley, Brandee Evans, just joined Sheryl Lee Ralph for a new film, The Fabulous Four.

Evans, best known for playing Mercedes Woodbine, is boarded into a cast that tapped Ralph to star alongside acting icons Susan Sarandon and Bette Midler with Megan Mullally, which is being billed as a comedy being released on July 26, 2024.

Here’s the drop as reported by Black Film and TV: the film “follows three longtime friends (Ralph, Sarandon and Mullally) who go to Key West to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college friend Marilyn (Midler).” Now, with all four friends back together, “sisterhoods are rekindled, the past rises up again in all its glory, and there are enough sparks, drinks and romance to change all their lives in ways they never expected,” based on the logline. Evans will play Ralph’s daughter.

Evans will be reprising her role as Mercedes in the new season of P-Valley, which is one of Starz’s hit series alongside the Power franchise. Back in 2021, Evans was quoted by Shadow and Act in an interview:

“I don’t think on TV you’ve really seen what happens truly at home on any show that you try to compare us to, and we’re going to continue to break that barrier. This isn’t anything you’ve ever seen before, P-Valley stands alone in that sense,” she said.”And it’s shot from a woman’s gaze, which I think is so beautiful and Katori [Hall] is going to continue on with those female directors this season as well. It’s a beautiful moment when you’re able to see it through a woman’s eyes and mostly with a woman’s perspective on the show.”

Sheryl Lee Ralph Once Advised Lauryn Hill To ‘Rethink’ The ‘Fugees’ Band Name

Sheryl Lee Ralph‘s career is currently surging as a result of her role on Abbott Elementary, but she’s also an industry vet with decades of experience under her belt. That experience has served her well as a mentor for the show’s creator Quinta Brunson, but that doesn’t mean her advice is always 100 percent correct.

Appearing on Good Morning America, Ralph revealed one time her advice missed the mark as she mentored another rare talent in the entertainment field, Lauryn Hill. The two were cast together in Sister Act 2 when Ralph advised Hill against naming her then-new hip-hop trio “Fugees.” Recollecting the conversation, Ralph gave effusive praise to her then-teenaged co-star while jokingly self-deprecating her rare show business miss.

“That was one of the best times because I got to work with this enthusiastic, bright, talented young woman,” she said. “When I tell you, I look at Lauryn Hill, I remember Lauryn Hill telling me, ‘Ms. Ralph, I’m going to have a band, and the name is going to be the Fugees,’ and I was like, ‘Baby you will definitely have a band, but you may need to rethink that name.’ And she said, ‘Ms. Ralph, you oughta get it, Fugees. Re-fugees,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, I get it, but, rethink it.’ But she was absolutely right.”

This makes me wonder… Do you think Quinta can rap like some of her comedian friends? Just a thought.

Judge Joe Brown Shuts Down Speculation About Allegedly Assaulting Sheryl Lee Ralph

The internet is known to spark a rumor or two, but Judge Joe Brown is snapping back. The famed television judge is familiar, considering his show has been on the air for decades. Brown is known as a no-nonsense character who abides by the law, but a recent story by an actress thrust his name into infamy. Iconic entertainer Sheryl Lee Ralph recently visited Way Up with Angela Yee and revealed that many years ago, she was sexually assaulted. She also noted that her assailant was a famous television judge.

“I’m at a very public place. I was suited,” she said. “I was handling my business for the television show I was on at that time. We were on the same network. This man walked in grabbed me by the back of my neck, turned me around and rammed his nasty ass tongue down my throat. And everybody at the network saw it.” Ralph further shared she called the mayor of New Orleans at the time, for help. Moriel was ready to send the authorities over immediately, but someone stopped Ralph from moving forward.

Judge Joe Brown Denies Allegations

“The mayor of New Orleans at the time was Marc Morial,” Ralph also said. “I called Marc Morial, he said ‘you want me to send the police there right now? ‘Cause we will fix his—you know what—right now.’ Somebody at the network tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘Please don’t.’ Do you know that they did not want any bad press around their show and did not care what had just happened to me?” It didn’t take long for the internet to weigh in, and soon, Brown’s name was entangled in scandal. However, he emerged with a statement via Twitter denying any involvement.

“There’re false rumors being spread that I mistreated a certain lady ≈ 25 yrs ago, he wrote. “I categorically deny both the accusations & acquaintance with the lady. Those rumors started with certain identified parties & spread. They ought ‘Cease & Desist’ or contemplate a Defamation Action.” Ralph never named her assailant or Brown during or after the interview. Additionally, Brown didn’t outright name Ralph, either.

Continuing To Defend His Name

Judge Joe Brown also answered his followers who popped up in his comment section. He thanked supporters for encouraging him through the rumors and answered fans who had questions about the controversy. Meanwhile, Ralph hasn’t responded to the speculation, nor does it seem she will name the assailant. Watch the clip of Sheryl Lee Ralph detailing her story above.

Sheryl Lee Ralph Doesn’t Care If You Think She Lip-Synced ‘Lift Every Voice And Sing’ At Super Bowl LVII

Sheryl Lee Ralph owns the limelight. The Abbott Elementary standout soaked up her first career Emmy win last fall, accepting flowers from Kid Cudi and another gift from Beyoncé. Ralph didn’t let 2022 before asserting her star power in different way, as she starred in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 show.

And so, no, Ralph was not here for anyone trying to dim her light at Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, February 12. She performed “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” the Black national anthem, before the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off against the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Ralph was extremely excited to be part of such a historic moment, boosted by the fact that Super Bowl LVII was the first-ever Super Bowl to feature two Black quarterbacks in Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and Philly’s Jalen Hurts:

But there were a few haters who speculated that Ralph lip-synced her powerful performance.

“Does it matter? Does it matter? No. Thank you,” Ralph told The Hollywood Reporter in response to the criticism.

She added, “It’s just so amazing that they chose me. And then the Eagles are in the Super Bowl. I mean, come on. You know God must be a woman because all of this is just too perfect.”

Ralph noted to THR that the significance of signing in a Super Bowl in which the Eagles were competing in mattered to her because “Abbott Elementary takes place in Philadelphia. My husband is a senator in Philadelphia. And this year the Eagles [went] to the Super Bowl — I had already been chosen to sing.”

Unfortunately for Ralph and all Philadelphians, the Eagles fell to the Chiefs 38-35.

Sheryl Lee Ralph Performed A Soulful Rendition Of ‘Lift Every Voice And Sing,’ The Black National Anthem, To Lead The Super Bowl

These days, Sheryl Lee Ralph is best known as Barbara Howard, the elder teacher on Abbott Elementary. She has already won multiple Emmys for the show, both for her individual role and as a member of the cast.

But as the “original Dreamgirl,” who won a Tony for her portrayal of Deena Jones in the Broadway musical, her vocal chops shouldn’t be overlooked. So when she was tapped to open this year’s Super Bowl with a soulful rendition of “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” aka the Black National Anthem, she rewarded that choice, showing off her range and getting things started off right. The pre-show also included a performance of “America The Beautiful” by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

For those who might be wondering why this year deserved such an honor, it’s because Black history has been made. This is the first-ever Super Bowl to feature two Black starting quarterbacks facing off, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.

In a fun connection, the Super Bowl Halftime Show will be performed by Rihanna, whose Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 Show on Amazon Prime featured Sheryl Lee Ralph as a model. Her resume continues to grow and impress, making for an inspirational career second act.

Chris Stapleton Is Set To Perform At Super Bowl LVII’s Pre-Game Events With Babyface And Sheryl Lee Ralph

Future football Hall of Famer Tom Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be out of the runnings, but that hasn’t slowed down the hype around Super Bowl LVII. The teams playing in the final game are still unknown at this time, with four teams still fighting it out in their respective conference championships. However, at this moment, what we do know is this year’s featured entertainment.

Last year’s halftime show featured an all-star medley performance by rappers Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent alongside singer Mary J. Blige, and producer Dr. Dre featuring their chart-topping hits. This year, Oscar-nominated singer Rihanna is slated to up the mantle. The “Lift Me Up” singer has remained tight-lipped about her upcoming set, leaving fans to speculate what she has up her sleeve.

Now, further details are being released about this year’s pre-game festivities. The national anthem (“The Star-Spangled Banner”) will be sung by country music star Chris Stapleton.

Legendary R&B singer and producer Babyface will sing “America the Beautiful,” while multi-hyphenated Emmy Award-winning actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph will sing the Black National Anthem (“Lift Every Voice and Sing”).

Super Bowl LVII will take place on February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
