Orlando Magic Announce Shaq Jersey Retirement

The Orlando Magic have announced that Shaq’s jersey will be the first to be retired by the team. “On behalf of the DeVos family and myself and all of us here at the Orlando Magic, we want to congratulate you as we make you the first jersey number retired in the history of the Orlando Magic. You had a great career here at the beginning of your career and we had some great times!” Magic CEO Alex Martins told Shaq on Inside the NBA. Furthermore, the jersey retirement is set for February 13.

Shaq was the Magic’s first-overall pick in the 1992 Draft and helped turn the team into a serious contender in the mid-90s. Addtionally, that included a Finals run in 1995, Shaq’s third season in the league. However, Shaq’s time in Orlando would only last until 1996 when he joined the Lakers in free agency. Shaq would later say that he felt like a “big fish in a dried-up pond” in Orlando. After leaving the Magic, Shaq would go on to win four NBA titles – three with the Lakers and one with the Heat.

Shaq Speaks On Jersey Retirements

Jersey retirements have been something that Shaq has actually spoken on in the last few weeks. The Hall of Famer recently said that he doesn’t necessarily agree with league-wide retirements of certain player jerseys. “I hate the fact that they hang up other people’s jerseys. I hope I’m not disrespecting anybody by this term. This thing is ours. This is what we built. Michael Jordan ain’t never play for the Heat. Bill Russell ain’t never play for the Heat. You did your own thing with your little Celtics family and Chicago family. But this Miami thing? I was one of the original championship families… this is our thing. So, I don’t like that personally,” Shaq said.

Furthermore, Shaq, whose jersey is retired by the Heat, was opining on the retirements following the news that the team would be retiring Udonis Haslem’s jersey in January. Haslem’s jersey will be just the sixth jersey retired by the Heat. The other jerseys of Heat players that have been retired are Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and Shaquille O’Neal.

Shaq to Become First Orlando Magic Player to Have Jersey Retired

Shaq will be the first Orlando Magic player to have his jersey retired. Shaquille O’Neal was surprised with the jersey retirement via Alex Martins, CEO of the Orlando Magic, and his pal Ernie Johnson during Inside the NBA.

“When someone asks who was the first player to officially put the Orlando Magic on the map, the answer is simple — Shaquille O’Neal,” Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins said. “He took this franchise to new heights, both on and off the court, and his legacy is still felt within our organization today. On behalf of the DeVos family, we are excited to honor Shaquille by raising No. 32 into the rafters of the Kia Center, where it will remain forever.”

Shaq has previously retired jerseys with the Los Angeles Lakers (No. 34) and Miami HEAT (No. 32). He was the No. 1 overall pick by the Magic in 1992 and spent his first four seasons with the franchise, becoming rookie of the year, four-time All-Star, and led the team to their first NBA Finals in 1995.

“It was a great four years there,” Shaq said during Inside. “I just wanted to come in and just make a name for myself. … I’d like to thank the city of Orlando, like to thank the Orlando Magic organization. Appreciate you very much.”

The retirement ceremony will be Feb. 12 when the Magic take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. The game, retirement and Inside the NBA will be on TNT.

Udonis Haslem Explains Shading Bill Russell

However, Haslem himself has found himself in hot water this week for comments about Bill Russell. Haslem explained why he had once said “F-ck Bill Russell” during a huddle speech. “I had to repent that. I love Bill. There’s no disrespect to Bill. I love Bill. He just caught that stray,” Haslem admitted. However, he went on to explain that it wasn’t a pointed comment. Instead, it was an off-handed remark as part of a large rallying cry about the Boston-Miami rivalry.

“Will you ever see a Miami Heat jersey in hanging the Boston rafters? Ever? In life? I wouldn’t give a f-ck if a Miami Heat player was on the basketball. Who’s that motherf-cker on the basketball? What’s his name? Jerry West. That motherf-cker played for the Heat, he would never hang in the rafters. He would never. They would never hang Jerry West’s Miami Heat jersey in the Boston rafters. Never in life. Respect to Bill Russell. I love him. Why the f-cker he got to hang in here?” Haslem explained.

Shaq Bet Money On Episodes Of “Maury” During His NBA Career

Shaq recently revealed that he used to place huge bets on who the father was in episodes of Maury. “Every morning at 10 a.m., we’d wake up with thousands of dollars and we’d watch The Maury Povich Show. And we’d make bets on who the father is … Every day. So, like, we watch it, we let them talk, and then we pause and then we pull that money out. ‘I’ll bet you a thousand he’s not the father!’ So, that was my thing,” Shaq told The Big Podcast.

Maury broadcast over 5500 episodes between 1991 and 2022. Meanwhile, Shaq’s career spanned from 1992 to 2011. That means that feasibly, Shaq could have won and lost hundreds of thousands of dollars just from watching the popular, if controversial talk show.

Shaq Sides With Giannis On Pacers Game Ball Dispute

However, Maury isn’t the only controversial topic that Shaq has weighed in on recently. Speaking with TMZ, Shaq said he sided with Giannis Antetokounmpo in the debate over who should get the game ball from the Bucks recent game with the Pacers. “I think by the letter of the law, if you’re playing at home, you should get the ball in both circumstances. But, you know I think Giannis had the right to be upset. [Speaking as Giannis] ‘Hey, We’re in Milwaukee, I just made history, I want the ball.’ And you know, he went after the ball,” Shaq explained.

Tensions flared between Giannis and members of the Indiana Pacers after the Pacers seemingly took the game ball from Giannis’ record-breaking night. A scuffle ensued in the corridor outside the visitors’ locker room as Giannis confronted Tyrese Haliburton amongst others. This led to two versions of events. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said the team took the ball to mark Oscar Tshiebwe’s first career points. Meanwhile, Giannis said he went looking for the ball to mark Damian Lillard moving into fifth place on the career three-pointers list. However, both Giannis and Carlisle agreed that the confrontation was “unfortunate”.

Shaq Speaks On Draymond Green Suspension

In the same interview with TMZ, Shaq also touched on Draymond Green’s recent “indefinite suspension”. Shaq has the outlet that he believes the appropriate suspension for Draymond Green after his ejection against the Suns is just two games. “I don’t think Draymond said, ‘Hey, I’m going to punch this guy just ’cause he’s pulling my jersey,’” Shaq said. Green is currently one game into an indefinite suspension. Per the NBA’s statement on the decision, the suspension “takes into account Green’s repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts.” Furthermore, “He will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play,” the league added. Green received his 18th career ejection, and third of the season, for striking the Suns’ Jusuf Nurkić in the face with a spinning backhand early in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game.

Many people have said that the punishment for Green was too harsh. “😆This fool is my favorite basketball 🏀 player, WTF Is wrong wit him. 🤷🏽‍♂️that was a mistake, I will apologize for him. 🤨come on it’s a physical game,” 50 Cent wrote on Instagram. However, the league has held firm in keeping Green sidelined for the time being.

Steve Kerr Speaks On Draymond Green Suspension

Meanwhile, Steve Kerr, Green’s head coach, has also spoken on the suspension. “The one who choked Rudy, the one who took a wild flail at Jusuf, the one who punched Jordan last year — that’s the guy who needs to change. This is not just about an outburst on the court. It’s about his life. It’s about someone who I believe in, someone I have known for decades, who I love for his loyalty. There is a lot of this that has to happen with people who are experts in this field. My role in this is to support Draymond as best I can. We want to give him the space, time and assistance he needs to make a significant change. We’re not qualified to offer some of the things he needs,” Kerr said.

However, some believe that the Warriors are no longer in a position to help Green. Sources who spoke to ESPN this week said the Warriors had “lost their leverage” with Green after failing to adequately punish him for punching Jordan Poole last season. Stephen A. Smith said on First Take that “no one would blame” the Warriors if they sought to trade Green.

Zion Williamson Issues Response To Shaq & Charles Barkley

Zion Williamson has been going through it as of late. Overall, ever since he entered the league, there have been concerns about his health. Mostly, this has to do with his weight, which has allegedly gone up to as much as 330 pounds. Ultimately, this is not good, especially when you are supposed to be a franchise cornerstone. Furthermore, things got particularly ugly when the New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the In-Season Tournament semi-finals. Since that time, everyone has been calling him fat, including Stephen A. Smith, Shaq, and Charles Barkley.

On Monday night, Williamson had himself a bounce-back game of sorts. He dropped 36 points and was flying all over the court. Furthermore, his team ended up beating the Minnesota Timberwolves who are a team that has been playing spectacular basketball this year. After the game, Williamson was asked about some of the criticisms that have come his way as of late. Although Williamson could have been upset, he was very diplomatic about it, instead. His answer definitely showed some maturity.

Zion Williamson Reacts

“If it comes from a great place and a place where they just wanna see me do better, thank you,” Williamson said. “But if it comes from anywhere else, everyone entitled to their own opinion. Can’t control that.” At the end of the day, Williamson will have to dig deep if he wants to fix his weight. Getting yourself right is absolutely no easy task. However, with the right trainers and the right regimen, Zion could definitely make it happen. At this point, it is just a question of motivation.

Hopefully, Zion Williamson will be able to live up to the hype. He has shown flashes of brilliance, and when he is healthy, he is a beast out on the court. Let us know your thoughts on the basketball star, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Shaq Shows Zion Williamson No Mercy, Pelicans Star Cops To Bad Performance

Shaq and Charles Barkley had no time for Zion Williamson’s poor showing against the Lakers in the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament. “Does not run hard — it’s not a diss, this is gonna be a lesson from one great big man to another guy that can be a great. Does not run hard. I had the same problem my first, second year — I thought I was running hard. Charles talks about this all the time, my talent’s gonna get me 20. When I start going to 20, 30, and 40, it’s because I started doing certain things,” Shaq said.

However, the Hall of Fame big man wasn’t finished “He doesn’t create easy points for himself. I saw a couple times when he had a couple times at the basket, he don’t seal, right? He doesn’t demand the ball … and he doesn’t have that look. Like, I’m not the greatest athlete ever, but I know a look when I see it. In every sport, I know a look. Tiger Woods had that look, Jack Nicklas had that look. He just doesn’t have that look. And he doesn’t rebound. He does not rebound,” he continued.

Zion Williamson Acknowledges Poor Showing

Furthermore, Williamson – who went 13/2/3 in the 44-point blowout loss – was the first to admit that he didn’t play his best game. “I got to be better. I got to be more aggressive, finding my shot. And I got to do more things to get my team going. I think I was too laid-back tonight, and I just can’t do that. And defensively I got to be better,” Williamson said.

On the other side of the ball, LeBron James had one of his biggest games of the year. LeBron looked ageless as he put up 30/5/8 to power the Lakers into the title game against Indiana. However, that’s now two games in a row that Williamson has struggled to break double digits. In the Pels’ quarterfinal win over Sacramento, Williamson was held to just 10 points. “I have a problem where I literally just try to hunt the best shot possible every time, but my teammates, they expect more from me. I expect more from myself. But I got to just trust my game. I just got to be more aggressive. I think if I’m more aggressive that energy will definitely carry over,” Williamson added.

From Icy Hot to Papa John’s, the former NBA champion knows how to get his face out there. He is worth hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to these endorsements, and he will continue to make money, by any means necessary. Quite frankly, it is a very honorable trait to have.
