Doja Cat Speaks On Sam Hyde Drama & Relationship With Her Fans

Doja Cat recently sat down with Ebro Darden on Apple Music (which you can watch here), and they had a whole lot of topics to talk about. She released her album Scarlet earlier this year, has had a lot of other success and evolutionary moments in her career, and also faced satanist accusations that she called “tacky.” However, one of the most interesting parts of this conversation have to do with the “Paint The Town Red” hitmaker’s more scandalous controversies as of late. One of these stems from her use of a shirt featuring Sam Hyde, a controversial comedian who is infamous for his political views and social leanings. The other relates to Doja’s relationship with her fans, whom she refuses to tell that she loves them because they don’t really know each other.

Furthermore, let’s start on that first point. She claimed ignorance when it comes to Hyde’s controversies, and said that she never intended to cosign, promote, or acknowledge any line of thought in particular, especially ideologies that are more destructive. However, Doja Cat also believes that people took this too far, and that her fame numbed her to negative opinion. “It didn’t affect the world in a way where we have to look behind our backs,” she told Ebro.

On the other hand, we have her connection to her fanbase, which has gotten a lot better in recent weeks. Still, many fans think that the Los Angeles native is not as appreciative, thankful, or considerate when it comes to her die-hards as she should be. Regardless of the responses to her comments, she maintained in this new interview that she never presents any negativity; just an acknowledgement of reality. “One thing that I do want to set straight is that you’ll never see a direct quote of me saying, ‘I hate my fans,’” Doja Cat shared. “ Not once. But it’s a really big misquoted thing where everybody is saying, ‘She hates her fans.’”

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old recently praised Nicki Minaj, so fans hope that a collab is on the way. With this and these new interview comments in mind, it’s heartening to see her move past a lot of what’s dogged her this year. Hopefully that upward trend continues. A fan account for Doja Cat posted a fake apology on social media, Tuesday, purporting that the singer addressed her recent controversy regarding the wearing of a shirt featuring alleged neo-nazi internet personality Sam Hyde. The Twitter page, UpdatesOfDoja, captioned the statement as if it had been deleted: “Doja cat really should’ve kept this.” The response reads: “You guys, I literally had no idea who that man was. I got that shirt from a thrift sale. I thought it looked cool cause he was holding a gun and I had a single called ‘Gun’ coming next month. Sorry.”

Doja Cat Wears Shirt Featuring Alleged Neo-Nazi

Doja Cat has shocked the internet once again as she posted a selfie featuring a picture of far-right and alleged neo-nazi internet personality Sam Hyde. Hyde is best known for his far-right politics and as a common far-right meme. Hyde’s picture, the very picture that appears on Doja’s t-shirt, is often used by far-right trolls to falsely attribute mass shootings in the United States to Hyde. In 2017, Hyde donated $5000 to the legal fund of Andrew Anglin, founder of the neo-nazi news outlet, The Daily Stormer. He was also sued for harassing a Jewish woman in which he said that $5000 was “nothing” to him.

Doja has an infamous history of flirting with the far-right and its politics. She has openly expressed her past using sites like Reddit and 4Chan. Doja has since deleted the post, replacing it with the same selfie but with the image of Hyde cropped out. However, she has not released any sort of apology or statement regarding the original image. Fans online expressed their disappointment over the post.

Doja Cat Continues To Dominate Hot 100

Despite her questionable fashion choices, Doja’s popularity shows no sign of running out of steam. “Paint the Town Red” went to #1 for the second time in its eight weeks on the chart. Meanwhile, Scarlet debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 this week. Doja is yet to have a #1 album in her career. Planet Her, her last album before Scarlet, peaked at #2. The #1 spot on the album chart is currently held by Rod Wave’s Nostalgia, which has topped the charts the past two weeks. Nostalgia usurped Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts at #1, which had debuted at #1 the week before Wave’s album.

Earlier this year, Doja also broke a Spotify record. Just after the release of “Balut”, it was reported that Doja had become the most-streamed female rapper on the music streaming platform. Her 65.7 million monthly listeners put her above Nicki Minaj, who had previously held the record. It remains to be seen if Doja can hold onto the record when Nicki releases Pink Friday 2 next month.

Doja Cat Posted A Picture Wearing A T-Shirt Featuring Alleged Neo-Nazi Comedian Sam Hyde

Doja Cat‘s fourth album, Scarlet, has garnered much acclaim, with fans and critics lauding her musical versatility, as well as her rap skills. However, she hasn’t quite made the best choices in this particular era. While she’s apologized and backtracked on comments she made about fans, Doja has once again found herself in hot water after sharing a controversial selfie on her Instagram account.

In the selfie, Doja is wearing a shirt that contains a picture of Sam Hyde, a comedian with alleged ties to the alt-right, and has been accused of being a neo-nazi.

For context, Hyde donated $5,000 in 2017 for the legal defense of Andrew Anglin, founder of the neo-nazi and alt-right publication, Daily Stormer, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Anglin was reportedly sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center after allegedly orchestrating a “troll storm” against a Jewish woman in Montana, and Hyde was said to have told the LA Times that $5,000 was “nothing” to him.

Doja has since deleted the post, and replaced it with one of her appearing to wear the same shirt, with the portion with Hyde cropped out.

At the time of writing, Doja has not issued an apology, nor has she offered any indication that she was unaware of who Hyde was before posting the original picture.
