Rob Gronkowski Wants To Play Flag Football At 2028 Olympics

Rob Gronkowski has announced that he would be open to unretiring from football if it meant playing at the 2028 Olympics. “Hopefully there’s no tryouts and they just accept me. But I’m in. I’m going for that if there is flag football in the Olympics in 2028. USA going all the way!” Gronk told TMZ. The tight end retired in 2022. Furthermore, he has said on multiple occasions that he’s done for good. This is despite unretiring once before.

Flag football was one of five sports approved by the IOC executive board this week. It will debut at the 2028 Olympics in LA. The other sports approved were cricket, lacrosse, squash, and baseball/softball. Despite the perception of American Football being, well, an American sport, it actually enjoys immensely popularity around the world. Furthermore, the inclusion of flag football, as opposed to full contact football, mitigates many of the safety concerns involved with the inclusion.

DanceSport Federation Laments Exclusion Of Breaking From LA 2028

While Gronk may be excited for flag football, one governing body isn’t happy with the announcement. The World DanceSport Federation said it was “profoundly disappointed” that breaking had not been selected for the 2028 Olympics. Breaking, the competitive sport form of breakdancing, will make its Olympic debut in 2024. However, it will have to wait until Brisbane 2032 for another shot at inclusion. Karate, motorsport, and kickboxing were also considered but ultimately not approved for LA 2028.

Paris 2024 will feature the first Olympic breaking tournament, which has been slowly filling out its qualifiers over the last few months. At the World Championships last month, both Olympic spots were earned by challengers to the sport’s status quo. In the b-boys event, Victor “Victor” Montalvo, the 2021 champion, took down reigning champion Philip “Phil Wizard” Kim to regain his title. That earned the US a spot in next year’s Olympic field. Meanwhile, the b-girls final saw 16-year-old Dominika “Nika” Banevič of Lithuania take down breaking legend and 2021 champion Ayumi “Ayumi” Fukushima. Nika continues a stellar 2023 that saw her win the 2023 European Games. Furthermore, her win at the World Championships means that India “India” Sardjoe of the Netherlands receives the berth from the European Games.

Rob Gronkowski Rules Out NFL Return

Rob Gronkowski is a no-doubt Hall of Fame. After being drafted 42nd overall in the 2010 draft, Gronk went on to win four Super Bowls and put up over 9000 receiving yards. Gronkowski also led the league in receiving touchdowns in his sophomore year. He retired in 2022 after a second season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gronk goes down as an all-time great both in the league and at his position.

However, there was speculation as to whether Gronk would stay retired. He had briefly retired during the 2019 offseason before ultimately choosing to follow Tom Brady to Tampa. While a reunion with Brady seemed like Gronk’s strongest route back, Brady retired in early 2023. Additionally, recent comments by Gronk shut the door on a potential return. with Brady’s retirement earlier in 2023.

Gronk Says “No Chance” Of NFL Return

Speaking with TMZ, Gronkowski shut down any rumors that he might be returning to the NFL. “There’s no chance anymore,” Gronkowski said, “I’m happily retired.” Gronkowski went on to say that he had instead taken up Pickleball in his spare time, boasting about how he beat his brothers Chris and Gord who “play with pros all the time”. “I’m still competing, I’m still winning, so I don’t even need to go back to football.” Gronkowski’s statement left no room for interpretation, just in case any NFL front offices thought they could get him back.

However, Gronkowski’s declaration does not mean that he’s completely stepped away from football. Gronk is set to serve as a team captain for the Arizona Wildcats Spring Game. Gronkowski is tied for ninth in career receiving touchdowns at Arizona. The event will see him face off against his brother Chris, who spent time as a running back at Arizona. The game will take place on April 15. The Wildcats will look to improve on a poor 5-7 2022 season. Gronkowski has also expressed his willingness to join the broadcasting booth. Specifically, he has previously stated that he would be happy to join Tom Brady when the former QB begins as an analyst for Fox in 2024. But one thing is clear, Rob Gronkowski will never suit up for another NFL game.

Rob Gronkowski Rips Aaron Rodgers For MVP Take

Rob Gronkowski has been making a ton of media appearances as of late. During these appearances, he has mostly talked about coming back to the NFL. Overall, he seems to be quite bored at home and just wants to get back on the field with a new team.

Additionally, he has stated that he would love to play with Josh Allen. He is from Buffalo, so playing for the Bills would be ideal. They even offered him a deal this season, however, he ultimately turned it down. Perhaps next season, he will finally bite.

Now, Gronk seems focused on something Aaron Rodgers said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers claimed he has another MVP in him, and that he will likely play next season.

“Do I still think I can play? Of course. Of course,” Rodgers said. “Can I play at a high level? Yeah. The highest. I think I can win MVP again in the right situation. Right situation, is that Green Bay or is that somewhere else? I’m not sure, but I don’t think you should shut down any opportunity.”

Rob Gronkowski Reacts

Gronk took issue with these comments and made that clear on Up & Adams. In the clip down below, Gronkowski notes that Rodgers shouldn’t be focused on MVPs. Instead, he should want to win another Super Bowl.

“I’m totally fine with everything he said except for one major part — and that’s the ‘MVP again,’” Gronkowski said. “Bro, why are you thinking MVP? Don’t you want Super Bowls?”

Gronkowski certainly makes a good point here. Over the last few years, it has seemed as though Rodgers has been more focused on personal achievements rather than team ones.

Rob Gronkowski Speaks

Recently, Gronkowski spoke with Kay Adams on her show Up And Adams. During the appearance, Gronk was asked which quarterback he would love to play with. Of course, Adams made sure to note that he can’t say Tom Brady. Subsequently, Gronk explained just how much he loves Josh Allen.

“In a dream world, I’ll go with my hometown team, the Buffalo Bills, once again,” Gronkowski said. “If you just watch Josh Allen go out there and play, he plays the game freely. It also looks like he’s having the most fun out there out of any QB in the whole NFL. And on top of it, he knows how to extend a play. I love watching a quarterback that looks like they’re about to get sacked by three defensive linemen then somehow escapes the pocket and runs around, jukes a linebacker behind the field and then just whips the ball down the field 50 yards for a touchdown. Just his play is unbelievable and electrifying.”

Overall, the Buffalo Bills are a phenomenal team. They have a real chance of going to the Super Bowl this year, and as a Buffalo native, we’re sure Gronk would love that. It will be a tough road, however, they have the talent to get it done.

Rob Gronkowski is retiring. Again. One of the greatest tight ends of all time is calling it a career at the age of 33. Gronk made the announcement on social media.

“I want to thank the whole entire first class Buccaneers organization for an amazing ride, trusting me to come back to play and help build a championship team,” Gronkowski said in his statement. “I will now be going back into my retirement home, walking away from football again with my head held high knowing I gave it everything I had, good or bad, every time I stepped out on the field.

“The friendships and relationships I have made will last forever, and I appreciate every single one of my teammates and coaches for giving everything they had as well. From retirement, back to football and winning another championship and now back to chilling out, thank you to all.”

Gronk who retired after his stint with the New England Patriots returned from retirement at the call of Tom Brady. Gronk’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he would not be surprised if that happened again.

“It would not surprise me if Tom Brady calls him during the season to come back and Rob answers the call,” Rosenhaus said. “This is just my opinion, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Rob comes back during the season or next season.”

If it truly is a wrap, Gronk will finish his career with four Super Bowl wins, a four-time All-Pro, and five trips to the Pro Bowl. He also was named to the 2010s All-Decade Team and the 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. He also has the most career touchdowns by a tight end in postseason history.
