Lizzo Celebrates Pride By Performing With Drag Queens In California

Lizzo has had a rough go of it recently, but she’s not letting anything keep her down. The pop star recently made a post about how tired she is of the constant comments about her weight. Although she has achieved tremendous success, she still faces persistent negativity about her body. This is particularly true on social media. In late May, Lizzo took to social media to express her exasperation regarding the ongoing scrutiny of her weight. Instead of recognizing her artistic achievements, some individuals persistently fixate on her body size. Lizzo revealed that she had come across a tweet questioning how she could maintain a larger physique despite her lively and energetic stage performances.

Understandably, Lizzo expressed her annoyance at encountering such comments on a daily basis. “I JUST logged on and the app and this is the type of sh*t I see about me on a daily basis,” Lizzo wrote. “It’s really starting to make me hate the world. Then someone in the comments said I eat ‘lots of fast food’ I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO… I’m tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some bullsh*t. Yall speak on sh*t y’all know NOTHING ABOUT and I’m starting to get heated.” Luckily, Lizzo doesn’t let the hate keep her from living her life, even if it might get her heated sometimes.

Lizzo: “Happy Pride, B*tch!”

Lizzo made a bold statement in support of the LGBTQ community at her recent concert in Thousand Palms, California. This particular show marked the beginning of Pride Month. In a video shared on her social media accounts, Lizzo energetically waved a pride flag while passionately. While doing so, she declared, “Drag should not be criminalized.” Surrounding her were drag performers Kim Chi, Angeria Paris Van Michaels, Kahanna Montrese, and Tenderoni, a drag king. Lizzo’s accompanying caption expressed her enduring solidarity. She used emojis of the transgender flag and rainbow flag to convey her wishes for a joyful Pride Month.

This display of support is in line with Lizzo’s previous vocal affirmations of her alliance with the LGBTQ community. When Tennessee passed a law against drag performances, Lizzo chose to perform in the state and create a safe space to celebrate drag artists. In response to Nebraska’s prohibition on gender-affirming healthcare for young transgender individuals, Lizzo empathized with the plight of these young people. She offered herself as a sanctuary where they can be their authentic selves, dismissing discriminatory laws as inconsequential. Through her words and actions, Lizzo continues to advocate for acceptance, self-expression, and the rights of the LGBTQ community. What do you think of Lizzo’s latest show of support for the community? Let us know in the comments!

Lizzo Kicked Off Pride Month By Standing Up For Drag Performers In A Big Way On Stage In California

We’re officially a few days into Pride Month, and at the top of it, Lizzo made a statement: At her June 2 performance at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California, she made it clear she’s all in on supporting the LGBTQ community.

In a video shared on Lizzo’s social media accounts yesterday (June 4), Lizzo waves a pride flag around as she shouts into the mic, “Drag is not a crime,” presumably in reference to recent anti-drag laws. She was surrounded by drag queens Kim Chi, Angeria Paris Van Michaels and Kahanna Montrese, along with drag king Tenderoni (as Billboard notes). Lizzo also captioned her post, “You’ve always had my back, and I’ll always have yours. [transgender flag emoji][rainbow flag emoji] Happy Pride [rainbow flag emoji][transgender flag emoji].”

This is just the latest recent example of Lizzo vocalizing her support for the LGBTQ community. After an anti-drag law was passed in Tennessee, Lizzo said on stage in April, “In light of recent and tragic events — recurring events, I was told by people on the internet, ‘Cancel your shows in Tennessee’ and ‘Don’t go to Tennessee.’ […] Why would I not come to the people that need to hear this message the most? The people that need to feel this release the most. Why would I not create a safe space in Tennessee where we can celebrate drag entertainers and celebrate our differences? And celebrate fat Black women.”

Then, in May, after Nebraska passed a law banning gender-affirming healthcare for transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people under the age of 18, Lizzo said, “It really breaks my heart that there are young people growing up in a world that doesn’t protect them. Let me be your safe space tonight. Young people, don’t let anybody tell you who you are, don’t let any law tell you who you’re not. You are who you are. I see you. You are valid. You deserve to be here in any form. These laws are not real. You are what’s real.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Megan Thee Stallion & Mariah Carey Are 2023 Pride In The Park Headliners

Megan Thee Stallion and Mariah Carey are the latest icons to headline the stage at the Los Angeles-based Pride Month concert. An annual staple, Pride in the Park includes a range of live shows. Musicians, artists, and other entertainers all show up to entertain attendees. Sadly, the event was canceled two years in a row due to the COVID pandemic. In 2022, the celebration made its triumphant return to LA State Historic Park. It featured performances from artists like Christina Aguilera and Anitta. This year promises to be no less exciting with headliners like Meg and Mariah. Both artists have rabid fanbases and a large presence in the LGBTQ+ community.

Mariah has not been the subject of much drama recently, but Megan Thee Stallion has certainly been making headlines. She has recently been embroiled in a highly publicized legal battle against Tory Lanez. In 2020, she accused Lanez of shooting her in the foot. The two had been leaving a party together and got into an altercation, resulting in the injury. It was a long road for Meg, but it was worth it. As of December, a jury found Lanez guilty of the crime. Subsequently, he has now filed a motion for retrial. If the original verdict is upheld, Lanez will be looking at 22 years of prison time. He will also face deportation to his home country of Canada once his sentence has been served. The outcome is still unknown, but Meg is already moving on. She has announced that she is working on new music and now has several large headlining gigs lined up.

Mariah And Meg Pay Tribute To LGBTQ+ Fans

Both Mariah and Megan took to social media to announce their co-headlining gig. They expressed excitement about the opportunity to perform, acknowledging their fans in the community in the process. “I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of LA Pride 2023,” Mariah said on her Instagram. “I am happy to be back in-person celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community here in Southern California and throughout all of the lands!!!” Meg also made a statement expressing her appreciation of the event’s inclusivity and diversity. “I can’t wait to headline LA Pride in the Park and celebrate the phenomenal LGBTQIA+ community,” said Meg. “This incredible event advocates diversity, inclusivity, and equality, so I’m honored to perform and have a blast with all of the Hotties in attendance.”

Both artists seem to be in good places in their lives, respectively. Mariah recently celebrated her 54th birthday on vacation with her boyfriend and her kids. She was beaming in videos and pictures posted to her Instagram, where she showed love to her fans and family. In Megan’s case, her comeback is in full effect after she took a small hiatus during the court case against Lanez. Though the battle is ongoing, the December verdict was a huge win for her. What better way to celebrate than performing at Pride?

Megan Thee Stalion And Mariah Carey Will Headline Los Angeles’ 2023 Pride In The Park Celebration

Pride Month might be in June, but the city of Los Angeles has already announced the headliners for its annual Pride In The Park celebration taking place June 9-10. It’s just not Pride without a diva or two, and this year’s selection of Pride performers has that covered with Megan Thee Stallion and Mariah Carey leading the show on Friday (6/9) and Saturday (6/10), respectively.

Carey posted the announcement on Instagram, writing, “I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of LA Pride 2023,” she wrote. “I am happy to be back in person celebrating with the LGBTQIA+ community here in Southern California and throughout all of the lands!!! Let’s come together to celebrate love, inclusion, and Pride.”

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Meg said, “I can’t wait to headline LA Pride in the Park and celebrate the phenomenal LGBTQIA+ community. This incredible event advocates diversity, inclusivity and equality, so I’m honored to perform and have a blast with all of the Hotties in attendance.”

The theme for this year’s Pride In The Park event is “All Out With Pride,” and future performers will be announced in the coming months. The 2023 Pride In The Park celebration will take place at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on 6/9-10. You can find more information here.

Lil Nas X’s Facebook Was Hacked With Anti-Pride Messages, But He’s Actually Amused

As a committed online troll himself, Lil Nas X can certainly appreciate a good zinger — even if he’s the butt of the joke. Although he was shut out at the Grammys this year, he was able to turn that misfortune on its head, and while he certainly doesn’t seem to like also not receiving any BET Award nominations, he was able to take the disappointment in stride. More recently, Nas’ Facebook page was hacked, just in time for the start of Pride Month. And though the culprit left an anti-Pride message, Nas seemed more tickled by the intrusion than upset.

“F*CK PRIDE MONTH,” wrote the hacker. “I faked being gay bitch. Ty for the $.” When a fan account screenshot the message and shared it on Twitter, Nas himself replied, writing, “i’m screaming because this is something i would actually say.”

He isn’t exaggerating at all. In 2020, shortly after coming out in the wake of his supernova rise to fame, Nas joked that he was never gay in the first place. “i said it to build up fuel for aprils fools day,” he winked. “ha got u guys.” Of course, the joke was short-lived; just thirteen minutes later, he tweeted, “ok i’m gay again.” Meanwhile, in 2021, he addressed the criticism he’s received from trolls saying he only came out for attention, tweeting, “y’all love saying i’m being gay for success but can’t name 5 successful gay male artists in the last 10 years to save your life.”

Nas isn’t letting the haters get him down, but maybe his collaborator Jack Harlow had a point. By now, it’s a bit much, and if Nas’ orientation bothers folks so much, maybe they could just, like… stop paying so much attention to him and find something else to do.

Lil Nas X Kicks Off Pride Month With Hilarious Advice For LGBTQ+ Allies

Today is June 1, which means it’s officially the start of Pride Month. There are certainly many celebrations to come over the next few weeks, and Lil Nas X is getting the party started early on Twitter with his signature sense of humor.

He started the day by announcing an opportunity for his followers, although it seems unlikely he’ll actually follow through on his promise. He wrote, “happy pride month. i will be having sex with 100 lucky fans to celebrate.” Shortly after that, he offered some advice for allies, which their LGBTQ+ friends will certainly like: “for pride month if you have friends who are part of the lgbtq+ community let them know that they are loved. give them all of your money.”

He also responded to a Pride Month tweet from the NFL, writing, “unfollowing. this is sad that y’all support that lifestyle.” A couple minutes later, he did a 180, tweeting, “after further consideration, i changed my mind, i now support the community and am now too also a homosexual.”

It seems like there will be more to come from Lil Nas X aside from cracking jokes on Twitter: A couple weeks ago, he declared he wants to do “something special” for Pride Month.

Lil Nas X Hints At Doing ‘Something Special’ For Pride Month

Lil Nas X is one of the most successful and visible gay music stars of the past couple years, thanks both to hits like “Old Town Road” and “Montero (Call My By Your Name)” and to his willingness to speak out about being gay. Now, he has suggested that he might have something in the works for Pride Month, which is celebrated in June.

Taking to Twitter this afternoon, he wrote, “i wanna do something special for homosexual month in a few weeks.”

Since coming out, Lil Nas X has discussed his sexuality on a number of occasions. Recently, for example, he talked about the possibility of alienating his straight fans, saying that this doesn’t bother him anymore: “At first I was really afraid of alienating any of my straight fans. But then it was kind of like, if they feel offended, they were never really here for me. They were here for whatever version of myself they made up in their head.”

Over the weekend, he also teased the video for his next single, “Sun Goes Down.” He wrote of it, “in the ‘sun goes down’ video i go back in time to visit a younger version self who’s struggling inside, hating himself, & doesn’t want to live anymore. i try my best to uplift him. can’t wait to share this song and video with you guys on friday. this one is really special to me.”
