Top 10 Best Athletes Of 2024

This past year was absolutely massive for the sports world, and some of the best athletes of 2024 came from an array of disciplines. Overall, the NBA and the NFL reigned supreme, at least from an American perspective. However, sports like hockey, and Formula 1 saw huge surges in viewership. Baseball was also a huge story this year, thanks to the Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ultimately, dynasties were born, and other dynasties grew strong. Although some may have been disappointed with the outcomes of championship games, you cannot deny that numerous athletes put on spectacular performances. So without further ado, here are our top 10 best athletes of 2024.

10. Luka Doncic

To begin our list, we have none other than Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic who, in tandem with Kyrie Irving, led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals this past year. Overall, Doncic proved himself as one of the best players in the entire National Basketball Association. Although his team came up short in the end, Doncic has pretty much ascended as the most likely heir to the face of the NBA throne. When LeBron James eventually retires, players like Doncic will ensure that this league remains in good hands. It is only a matter of time before Doncic hoists the Larry O’Brien trophy.

9. Lionel Messi

Subsequently, we have Lionel Messi who should forever be a mainstay on these kinds of lists. Although his year was relatively quiet compared to 2022 when he won the World Cup, Messi has remained the GOAT of soccer. His past season with Inter Miami led to even more legacy building and when you compare his current play to Cristiano Ronaldo’s, it becomes clear who the better player is and has always been. What more can you say? Messi is the greatest soccer player on the planet and when all is said and done, he will have a very strong case as the best to ever step on the pitch.

8. Max Verstappen

While some of you out there may not consider Formula 1 a sport, such a take would be coming from a place of ignorance. These drivers are athletes through and through, and the best of the best over the last four seasons has been Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver picked up where Lewis Hamilton left off. After Hamilton won four championships in a row, Verstappen has matched that, even though his competition is considerably weaker. This season was one of his most difficult as the Red Bull car slowed down in the middle of the season. However, Verstappen outperformed his equipment and gave some impeccable drives that ultimately saved his championship campaign.

7. LeBron James

You cannot mention the best athletes of 2024 without also giving some love to none other than LeBron James. LeBron is set to turn 40 years old at the end of December, and somehow, he has been able to fend off father time. Admittedly, the start of this season has been a bit of a rocky one for LeBron. His age is finally catching up to him, but at this point, who cares? LeBron has given us over 20 years of high-level basketball and in 2024, he continued to grow his records. Moreover, he gave us more myth-building that will last generations. Not to mention, he got his son Bronny drafted into the NBA and even got to share the floor with him. If that is not special, we don’t know what is.

6. Lamar Jackson

Best athletes of 2024
LAS VEGAS, NV – FEBRUARY 8: Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens poses for a portrait after winning MVP at the 13th Annual NFL Honors on February 8, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Todd Rosenberg/Getty Images)

Next up on our list, we have the NFL MVP himself, Lamar Jackson. Once again, Jackson had another exceptional regular season. Although his Baltimore Ravens came up short against the Kansas City Chiefs, this was the furthest Lamar had ever gone in the playoffs, and it seems like he is on the cusp of greatness. In the 2024 regular season, Jackson has continued his MVP-level play, and the Ravens look like a team that could definitely make it to the Super Bowl. Regardless of whether or not they win it all, Jackson is a top-three quarterback in the NFL, and his accomplishments throughout 2024 speak for themselves.

5. Connor McDavid

A best athlete of 2024 list would be completely out to lunch without an entry for Connor McDavid. Sure, hockey is not very popular compared to basketball and football. However, one of the best players in their respective sport would be Connor McDavid. The Edmonton Oilers captain led his team to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they eventually lost in seven games to the Florida Panthers. That said, the series itself was a special one as McDavid was able to lead his team back from an 0-3 deficit. He was on a tear at one point in the Finals, and he showed the world that he could be the best player in the biggest moments. Had he won the Cup, he would be higher than fifth on this list.

4. Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics won the NBA Finals this past year in five games against the Dallas Mavericks. It was an easy series for the Celtics, and while Jaylen Brown won Finals MVP, there is no doubt that Jayson Tatum was sensational, especially in the close-out games. Throughout the season, Tatum was making an argument for himself as the best player in the NBA. Upon winning the championship, Tatum has continued to play at a high level and has been dominant to start the 2024-25 season. The Celtics are already the championship favorites, and if Tatum wins a Finals MVP, then he may just become the true face of the league, whether the haters want that or not.

3. Caitlin Clark

No athlete on this list has been more polarizing than Caitlin Clark. However, Clark has certainly earned her place at number three as she has completely transformed the WNBA since being drafted first overall by the Indiana Fever. For many, Clark’s ascension to fame began in the NCAA Championship Game against LSU where she went toe-to-toe with Angel Reese. This past year, Clark got her revenge in the Elite Eight against LSU. Many predicted that she would come into the WNBA and immediately become one of the league’s best players. While it took her until after the Olympics to get her footing, Clark catapulted to a Top 5 player and won Rookie of the Year. Additionally, every single game she played in had a sold-out crowd, and the TV ratings for Fever games were competing with some NBA match-ups. Regardless of results, no athlete had a larger impact on their league than CC.

2. Patrick Mahomes

Best athletes of 2024

What more can you say about Patrick Mahomes? Overall, he is already one of the best quarterbacks to ever do it. In just seven seasons, he has managed to win three Super Bowls including two back-to-back championships. Moreover, the Chiefs looked primed and ready for a three-peat. There isn’t much else to say about Mahomes at this point. The only person he is chasing down right now is Tom Brady, and that is certainly going to take a while. However, in terms of pure talent and creativity, Mahomes might be the best quarterback we have ever seen. Teams fear him, and opposing fans absolutely despise him. But at this point, you just have to sit back and appreciate greatness.

1. Shohei Ohtani

Our number-one athlete for 2024 is none other than Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his first season with the Dodgers, Ohtani was able to win his first World Series, and based on the team’s upcoming roster moves, he may just win another. Having said that, 2024 was truly the best year of Ohtani’s career. Due to surgery, he decided not to pitch. Instead, he focused on hitting, and it worked out well for him. His home run/stolen bases record was truly impressive, and there was no doubt that his production was fueling the Dodgers to new heights. He elevated his teammates, and come playoff time, Ohtani showed that he’s also fantastic in the clutch. No athlete was as captivating as Ohtani. He will be the face of Major League Baseball for years to come.

Patrick Mahomes & Travis Kelce Have Each Of Their Homes Burglarized

When you are as big as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, you are bound to run into some problems. Whether it be over eager fans or nasty hate and criticism, it just naturally comes with job. However, we are sure that both would rather deal with that over what we are about to reveal. According to a report from TMZ Sports, the quarterback and tight end tandem had their homes burglarized last month.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says that Mahomes’ pad in Belton, MO was broken into first. This all went down on October 6 at midnight, which is when local police got to the scene of the crime. As for Travis Kelce, his house, located in Leawood, Kansas, was robbed around 7:33 p.m. on October 7. It seems this was the plan for the criminals to orchestrate these break-ins in this manner because the Chiefs were on “Monday Night Football” that night.

The Contents Stolen At Patrick & Travis’ Homes Are Still Up In The Air

It was a matchup with the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. As it stands, police have not been able to disclose what was stolen at Mahomes’ home. However, there is a recent update from TMZ which details what was taken from Kelce. They say it was $20,000 and some damage to his back door.

Given how scary these things are, the future Hall of Fame pass catcher and Taylor Swift decided to stay at a hotel that night. The pop star was in attendance for that game as well. Sources close to the story say that there was a major crime spree going on during the burglaries. Our best goes out to Mahomes, Kelce, and their loved ones during this time and hopefully, justice will be served soon.

WR DeAndre Hopkins Traded to KC Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs always find a way. With his receivers all in injured status, the champs have pulled off a trade to bring star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to catch balls from Patrick Mahomes.

According to Ian Rapaport, Hopkins will be traded to the Chiefs for a 5th-round pick that can become a 4th. Additional details are unknown. The Chiefs will take on the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday.

Patrick Mahomes Says Taylor Swift Has Started ‘Drawing Up Plays’ For The Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs were already an emerging dynasty coming into the 2023 season, with some immensely popular players among football fans, headlined by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. However, once Kelce started dating Taylor Swift, they saw a whole new group of fans flooding in, as Swift’s extremely loyal (and massive) fan base became heavily invested in the Chiefs as they went on another Super Bowl winning run.

As the 2024 season gets set to start in Kansas City on Thursday night, with the Chiefs facing one of their top challengers in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens, all eyes are on Mahomes, Kelce, and how Kansas City will begin another title defense. Among those watching will be Swift, as she and Kelce have become a serious couple, with Kelce a fixture at Swift’s Eras Tour shows in Europe, and even showing up on stage in London. When that happened, plenty of people (including myself) made the joke that Kelce has to return the favor and get Swift some snaps for the Chiefs, and while that won’t happen, it might not be all that far-fetched that Swift will have an impact on the field this season.

Patrick Mahomes recently sat down with NBC’s Chris Simms and, naturally, the conversation shifted to Swift towards the end, where Mahomes talked about how “genuine and cool” Swift has been, despite being the most famous person in the world. He also noted she’s gotten very into football, going so far as to start drawing plays in her spare time (~22:50 of the below video).

“And then meeting Taylor and realizing how genuine and cool she is,” Mahomes said. “I mean, that’s been special to me, because she is, like you said, the most famous person in the world, she could not be. And she’s really interested in football and she asks a lot of great questions. She’s started drawing up plays, so we might have to put one in.”

The Chiefs offense is willing to try just about anything if they think it can work, so I don’t think this is just lip service by Mahomes about possibly putting in a Taylor play. We’ve seen the Chiefs try all kinds of wild designs, from spinning huddles to behind the back passes and more, so don’t be surprised if we learn after a game that a redzone TD came off of something drawn up by the biggest pop star in the world.

Travis Kelce Booed During Mavericks-Timberwolves While Patrick Mahomes Gets Standing Ovation

Sunday night, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-107 to take a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals, and they did it with a couple of NFL stars sitting courtside. Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce both sat courtside during last night’s Western Conference matchup. The Chiefs duo, who have won three Super Bowls in the previous five years, appeared to be enjoying themselves immensely as they watched Kyrie Irving and Luka Dončić show out in crunch time once again for the Mavs. Meanwhile, as Kelce and Mahomes appeared on the Jumbotron, fans at America Airlines Arena enjoyed themselves immensely by booing Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.

As the spotlight turned to Travis and his teammate Patrick Mahomes, who was seated courtside, the crowd’s reaction was a mix of applause and jeers. Travis, seemingly taken aback but still sporting a grin, was the unexpected focus of attention. When his QB was revealed, the audience reacted much more warmly. There was a lot of applause, and Mahomes got up to hype the crowd. He was surrounded by admirers, and his wife Brittany was by his side. Overall, the crowd did not feel Kelce at all, but they were happy to see the best quarterback in football.

Travis Kelce Booed And Patrick Mahomes Cheered At Mavs Game

Before the game, the Mavs apparently made fun of Kelce on Twitter by saying, “Our guy Pat and @taylorswift13’s boyfriend in the house!” Who knows why the Dallas audience was more welcoming to Pat than to Travis Kelce, but it could have something to do with Mahomes’ being a Texas Boy. The quarterback stood out at Texas Tech. Mahomes has also been a frequent guest at Mavs games and recently picked them to make it to the NBA finals. He is clearly a Mavericks fan. As for Kelce, the hate probably comes from his elevated celebrity status due to his involvement with Taylor Swift.

Also seated with Travis and Pat Mahomes was their new teammate, Hollywood Brown. Brown is the latest target for the superstar quarterback, and he got some bonding time with his team’s two leaders. The Mavs are up 3-0 on the Timberwolves. Patrick Mahomes will more than likely be present in Dallas for Game 4. Overall, we can understand if Travis Kelce doesn’t show up again.

Patrick Mahomes Picks The Dallas Mavericks Making the NBA Finals Over The Minnesota Timberwolves

The NBA’s Western Conference Finals begin tonight. The Minnesota Timberwolves face off against the Dallas Mavericks in what looks like an incredible matchup. The star power is there as the series will feature rising stars Anthony Edwards, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic. The Dallas Mavericks have been frequented by Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes on a number of occasions this season and in the playoffs. Today, the MVP QB put himself on the record. He picked the Dallas Mavericks to move on to the NBA finals.

Today, while making an appearance on First Things First on Fox Sports, Mahomes talked some hoops with Kansas City Chiefs superfan Nick Wright. The quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and his spouse, Brittany, watched game three of the Mavs’ NBA postseason second-round match from courtside at the American Airlines Center. Mahomes is a Texas boy, so it’s understandable that he has some ties to the Mavs. Patrick Mahomes is standing firm behind his favorite NBA team and thinks Luka and Kyrie have what it takes to get it done.

Patrick Mahomes Is Standing With The Dallas Mavericks

Nick Wright, a Chiefs superfan, asked Patrick Mahomes if he thinks his Mavs can finish it off. Patrick Mahomes gives credit to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who he says are led by Anthony Edwards, who has been “dominant.” He also gave credit to the Wolf’s defense, which has been their calling card throughout the playoffs. The superstar QB says it’s going to be a hard series, but Dallas has what it takes. He credits the Mavericks trade deadline moves as one of the big factors in their success. he says the trades added another level of athleticism to the roster. Patrick Mahomes says if Luka plays like Luka and Kyrie plays like Kyrie, then the Mavs will get it done.

The Mavericks vs. the Timberwolves should be the best playoff matchup so far. It will be interesting to see how the Mavs deal with the size and length of the Wolves, whose swarming defense sent the MVP and the defending champs home. Overall, this matchup is shaping up to be a must-see TV for NBA fans. Let’s see if Mahomes’ prediction comes to fruition.

Patrick Mahomes Weighs In On Viral NFL Vs NBA Debate With Surprising Take

Patrick Mahomes has weighed in on the viral debate as to whether NFL players could play in the NBA and vice versa. The drama began when Austin Rivers argued take 30 NBA players could immediately succeed in the NFL while NFL players could not do the same in the NBA. Expectedly, the take resulted in plenty of backlash from professional football players. While watching the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder’s playoff matchup on Saturday, however, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a surprising take.

During the broadcast, Dave Pasch and Hubie Brown revealed that Mahomes shared his take on the matter while sitting courtside. “Patrick Mahomes, unsolicited, just turned to Hubie and I and said Lu Dort could play in the NFL,” Pasch said. Dort, who is listed at 6’4, 220 pounds, finished the game with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists as his Thunder fell 104-101 to the Mavericks.

Rivers made his original comments on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. “Where the best athletes in the world are, that’s us,” Rivers said. “I could take 30 players right now in the NBA and throw them in the NFL. You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA.” One of the most prominent NFL voices to speak out against him was former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones. Doing so resulted in a back-and-forth between the two on social media.

Patrick Mahomes Assists Logan Paul On Monday Night Raw

This week’s Monday Night Raw took place in Kansas City. Whenever the WWE visits a city that is home to an NFL franchise, you can expect to see some star players from that team show up during the broadcast in the crowd. Recently retired NFL center Jason Kelce has made a couple of in-ring appearances over the past couple of months. The WWE and the NFL have a lot in common, so it only makes sense for them to link up with one another. The WWE brought out Patrick Mahomes and US champion Logan Paul this week, and it was out of control. The Super Bowl champion gave Paul a big assist with some Super Bowl flair.

Logan Paul, the reigning US champion in the WWE, is not resting on his laurels. His recent victory at WrestleMania, where he outshone WWE Legend Randy Orton and the great Kevin Owens in a triple-threat match, is just the beginning. Paul is determined to make a name for himself in the world of wrestling, and his performance on Monday Night Raw was a promising glimpse into his future success as a villain.

Patrick Mahomes Gifts Logan Paul Super Bowl Ring Brass Knuckles

Patrick Mahomes entered the arena with Paul and his crew, and Paul was dining on his championship belt. During Paul’s segment on Raw, Paul, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh were all in the ring at the same time, putting a beating on Jey Uso. Paul slid out of the ring and approached Patrick Mahomes, who was sitting in the front row. Mahomes gave him some assistance using a pair of brass knuckles. After Mahomes took out his three Super Bowl rings and gave them to Paul, the quarterback threw them on, gave Mahomes a quick pat on the back, and stepped back into the ring.

Paul got ready to deliver a devastating blow to Jey Uso with the Super Bowl ring brass knuckles. Unfortunately for Paul and his crew, Uso saw it coming and got out of the way at the last moment. Paul’s teammate McDonagh took the punch and all of those diamonds to the face. Jey Uso dodged a bullet and laughed it off. Overall, Patrick Mahome’s appearance on Monday Night Raw was pretty entertaining. We hope it’s not his last appearance with the WWE.

Patrick Mahomes And His Wife Attend While Start To Their Team’s NWSL Season

Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany were present for the opening game of the NWSL season, which took place in Kansas City. The KC Current, which is part-owned by the Mahomeses, were hosting the Portland Thorns. The game also marked the opening of the Current’s new stadium, which was partially funded by the Mahomeses.

However, any expectations of a calm opening day were blown out of the water by a nine-goal thriller. The Current led 3-0 at halftime and 5-1 after 70 minutes. Despite this, the Thorns came heart-breakingly close to a massive comeback as they scored three times in the final 20 minutes but ran out of time, with the game finishing 5-4 to the Current. The game included a broken record for the Current, with 16-year, 4-month year-old Alex Pfieffer becoming the league’s youngest-ever scorer.

Emma Hayes Apologizes For Calling Teammate Relationships “Inappropriate”

Elsewhere, incoming USWNT manager Emma Hayes has apologized for calling relationships between teammates “inappropriate”. “I want to be clear to everybody in the room, I don’t want to create any more clickbait headlines for you guys. I think sometimes that becomes the case when we have honest conversations about things. Of course, I’m disappointed about that. Of course, Jess and I have had a conversation today as I have with other players in the team. They know exactly who I am and what my intentions were. But I have to expect that — I’m supposed to be the most well-trained, non-clickbait coach and I let myself down yesterday. I didn’t think it was right for me to use the term ‘inappropriate’ for the players,” Hayes said.

Hayes had called teammate relationships “inappropriate” while responding to a question about player-coach relationships. However, despite the subsequent “clickbait headlines” it spawned, her stance was rooted in nothing but team cohesion. One player’s in the team, one’s not in the team. One might be in the last year of their contract, one might not be. We all know, those of us that have been in the women’s game for a long period of time, those things have been happening in dressing rooms. Longer term, it would be ideal [to get to a place] where you don’t have to deal with that. We’re dealing with human beings. We do talk about it internally,” Hayes reasoned.
