Druski Walks Back His Gold-Digging Comments About Ex Rubi Rose
Druski always has a one-liner ready. It’s the reason he blew up on TikTok, and why he’s one of the most recognizable comedians on the internet. Druski knows how to get a laugh, or to drop a quotable that will stick in the heads of listeners. Sometimes, though, the talent can backfire. The comedian sat down for an interview with V103 Atlanta on July 31, and his comments about his ex-girlfriend, Rubi Rose, proved to be more viral than he anticipated. Druski subsequently got on Instagram to clarify that he was joking.
Let’s start with the V103 interview. Druski was asked about his brief but notable romance with model and rapper Rubi Rose. He spoke highly of Rose, but when asked what the biggest lesson he learned from the relationship was, he had jokes. “When you have a beautiful woman, of that caliber,” he explained. “You better have them pockets ready… You don’t know when you’re gonna have to be pulling that wallet out.” The comedian went on to say that there’s no ill will between him and his famous ex, though. “She is a beautiful girl [and] she’s doing great in life,” he asserted.

Druski Clarified That His “Pockets” Joke Was Not True
“Have them pockets ready” quickly spread through social media like a wildfire. Some were amused by Druski’s comment, others were annoyed that he would suggest Rubi Rose took advantage of his wealth. In an effort to stave off additional controversy, though, the comedian took to Instagram. He posted an IG Story clarifying that he was messing around during the radio interview. “In the last interview I did, I spoke about my recent relationship,” he wrote. “And to be real I was trolling.” Druski went as far as to claim that Rubi Rose paid for a lot of their adventures as a couple. “She spent more money in the relationship than I did,” he added.
Druski’s comments have provided the most insight into the celebrity romance yet. Both him and Rubi Rose had been vague about what happened in the aftermath of their break up. Rose simply announced that she was single during a street interview in June. Druski, on the other hand, danced around the topic during an interview on the BET red carpet. “I don’t know, man,” he said. “You know, I’m just here blessed and highly favored, man, you know.” Based on the net worths of Druski and Rubi Rose, though, it seems like both of them are going to be just fine.

JPEGMAFIA Obliterates Drake With Multiple Disses On His New Album
JPEGMAFIA truly does not care. He does what he wants, and he doesn’t apologize. It makes sense, given combative album titles like All My Heroes Are Cornballs (2019) and SCARING THE H*ES (2023). Peggy is bold as ever on his new release, I Lay Down My Life for You, but the sonic experimentalism will definitely be taking a backseat to the combative bars. JPEGMAFIA decided to hop aboard the Drake hate train, and deliver some absolutely brutal insults on the cuts “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” and “New Black History.” The rapper goes as far as to coin the phrase “No Drizzy.”
“It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” is not solely a Drake diss. There are bars aimed at entitled fans and jealous rappers, but the ones aimed at the 6 God are unmistakable. He flips Drake’s 2018 song “No Friends In the Industry” while spotlighting the allegations that the Toronto rapper has been with underage girls. “I can count all of my industry friends on my hands. And my n**gas, they be in demand,” JPEGMAFIA spits. “Obviously, rappers, they know what it is. If I show you a Drac’, I ain’t playin’ with kids.” The use of Drac’ the firearm as a double entendre for Drizzy is another reference, to Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” diss. It is worth pointing out the song’s title evokes DMX’s first album. DMX, of course, was a rapper who very much despised the 6 God.

JPEGMAFIA Coins The Phrase “No Drizzy” On His Album
Then there’s the “No Drizzy” line. The song “New Black History” sees JPEGMAFIA and Vince Staples trade bars over a glitchy instrumental. Staples is predictably excellent during his verse, but Peggy goes for the throat on his. “‘Specially when ya’ll cashing out for PDF’s and rapers (No Drizzy),” he raps. “I hope ya’ll paid attention, no really, I’m dyin’. I killed myself, tell them to kill me (Hey).” Oof. “No Drizzy” comes from the same place as “No Diddy,” which took the internet by storm earlier this year. The phrase was a way to denote sus behavior, while referencing the horrid allegations leveled at Diddy.
JPEGMAFIA equating Drake with Diddy is perhaps the most devastating diss made by anyone not named Kendrick Lamar. This, of course, is nothing new for the rapper. JPEGMAFIA has been a Drake hater since day one. “I been randomly dissing Drake for like five years,” he told DJ Booth in 2019. “Don’t know why. I guess, because [it’s] Drake. He’s so big that yeah I have been dissing him for five years, just because like he’s big as f*ck.” Peggy’s disses are a bit more heated on the new album, though, so there may be more to the hating than internet trolling. When Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams” diss dropped on May 3, JPEGMAFIA tweeted: “I’m no longer the biggest Drake hater. Kendrick Unbelievable.” We agree, but the rapper is giving Dot a run for his money.

Lil Yachty Claims Drake Leak “Supersoak” Will Never Get An Official Release
Lil Yachty had a lot to say on the Flagrant podcast. The rapper has developed a reputation for being Drake’s best friend in the music industry, so naturally he was bombarded with 6 God questions. One such question pertained to the recent collaboration between Yachty and Drake, “S.O.D. (Supersoak).” The song was played by Kai Cenat during a recent Twitch stream, and fans have been eager to know when the official version will be released on streaming. According to Lil Yachty, the answer is never.
Lil Boat revealed he was the one who sent “S.O.D.” to Kai Cenat. “I sent a song to Kai to leak,” he told host Andrew Schultz. The rapper then explained the reasoning behind the Twitch pivot: him and Drake couldn’t get the sample for the song cleared. “We couldn’t get the sample,” he added. “So I just let Kai play it.” Schultz asked whether “S.O.D.” would ever see the light of day, and Lil Yachty said no. He was ultimately, pleased, however, by how much attention the song got from the leak. “It’s everywhere,” the rapper noted.

More questions surfaced. Schultz was puzzled as to how an artist of Drake’s stature couldn’t secure a sample clearance. Apparently, it came down to religious beliefs. “S.O.D.” samples an IG post, and the person who made the post didn’t approve of the song’s lyrical content. “He went down like a Christian path,” the rapper explained. Lil Yachty claimed he didn’t get a chance to make the influencer an offer, however, before he was turned down. “I don’t even think we got into money, ” the rapper recalled. “He was just like, ‘no.’ It was crazy.”
The influencer wasn’t alone in his dislike for “S.O.D. (Supersoak).” Soulja Boy hopped on IG Live and accused Drake of dissing him on the song’s hook. “Drake, you up here talkin’ about some S.O.D. super soak,” Soulja said. “Boy, stop playin wit me, boy. That better be a f*cking shout out, n*ga.” Soulja Boy even made reference to Drake’s recent battle with Kendrick Lamar. A battle that Lil Yachty regretted discussing during a previous podcast appearance. During his Flagrant appearance, he said he’ll avoid speaking about Drake’s business in the future. “I just wish I had never spoke on it,” he told Schultz. “I wish I hadn’t said anything about it.”

Waka Flocka Flame Doubles Down On Trump Support After Mocking Biden Fans
Waka Flocka Flame doesn’t pretend to be a political expert. The rapper knows what fans look to him for, and he makes it his priority to be energetic and entertaining. That said, Waka has become increasingly more vocal about his ideology. He decided to clarify where he stood, politically speaking, during a string of tweets on July 31. He not voiced support for Republican nominee Donald Trump, but he described why and urged those who disagreed to be civil in their reaction.
Waka Flocka Flame made it clear that he doesn’t prescribe to the MAGA extremism put forth by some facets of Trump’s followers. “Trump still my president,” he stated. “I don’t have to stand with a red hat or dance or stage for money in my pockets. Didn’t push me this direction.” The rapper then noted that one shouldn’t attack someone for having a different set of beliefs than them. “This is my choice like I choose not to eat pork,” he explained. “But do that make me hate pork lovers or disrespect their character…” He proceeded to list the different ways in which he aligns with Trump’s policies. Once more, while noting he is nothing more than an entertainer with a voice.

Waka Flocka Flame Was Awarded By The Trump Administration
“I just want my rights,” Waka Flocka Flame asserted. “My freedom, equality, men/women to pay for bad policing. Women to have rights and make choices for self, teachers to be paid more, and the list goes on. But hey I’m just a lil o entertainer with a micro voice I know no1 is listening.” It’s a measured explanation, especially compared to the aggression of other rappers who have endorsed Donald Trump. Lil Pump has been waving the Trump flag for years, and has resorted to questioning the racial background of Kamala Harris. Waka Flocka Flame’s plea for understanding, however, does contradict his behavior during a July concert.
On July 2, the “No Hands” rapper singled out Joe Biden supporters and mocked them during his show in Utah. “All Joe Biden voters, get out of my concert,” he stated. “We going to see y’all at the bingo game. We’re gonna party right now for motherf*cking president T24!” The footage of Waka Flocka Flame went semi-viral, and many fans criticized the rapper for isolating fans who paid to see him perform. It’s also worth noting that Waka was awarded by the Trump administration back in 2021. He was given a lifetime achievement award for his philanthropical work with the Chicago organization Daughter of Destiny.

Drake Rocks “Free Vybz Kartel” Shirt To Celebrate Kartel’s Release From Prison
Drake has always had a contentious relationship with dancehall. The rapper was criticized for exploiting the Jamaican genre during the making of the “Find Your Love” video way back in 2010. That said, he has repeatedly voiced his adoration for its artists. He has collaborated with numerous dancehall legends, and helped to boost their profile with American listeners. It’s been a while since Drake dabbled in dancehall in his own music, but the rapper’s recent Instagram post confirms that he’s still very much a supporter. He celebrated the release of Vybz Kartel by rocking a “Free Vybz” t-shirt on Instagram.
This is not the first time Drake has shown off his “Free Vybz” merch. The rapper posted a photo of the shirt on his Instagram Story back on April 2. “Up 2 Di Time,” the rest of the text on the shirt reads. “Free Kartel, free world boss.” The timing could not have been better. Vybz Kartel was sprung from prison on July 31. The Jamaican deejay was convicted of murder back in 2011, but the Privy Council in the United Kingdom overturned his conviction back in March. The Privy Council cited juror misconduct and bribery as the main causes, according to Rolling Stone.

Drake Cites Vybz Kartel As A Huge Musical Influence
Drake has advocated for Vybz Kartel’s release for most of his career. The rapper praised the deejay during a 2016 interview with Narduwar. “Vybz Kartel is one of my biggest inspirations, one of my favorite artists,” he explained. “You want to talk about a guy coming out of a place that has their own thing, their own culture, and absolutely just taking over. The one person to idolize.” Drake proceeded to single out Kartel’s ability to transcend era, and maintain longevity within Jamaican culture. “I been to Jamaica,” he explained. “And no matter what, people are always holding up Vybz as an icon.” The Toronto artist also revealed that PARTYNEXTDOOR shares his admiration for Kartel.
Drake and Vybz Kartel have never collaborated on a song, for obvious reasons. The former did link up with Kartel’s longtime producer, however, in 2022. Rvssian posted photos alongside the 6 God on IG, fueling rumors that they were going to cook up music together. Sadly, nothing from the sessions has seen the light of day. The closest fans have come to getting an OVO and Vybz Kartel collaboration was the PARTYNEXTDOOR single “Not Nice.” The 2016 song featured a sample of Kartel’s “Real Bad Gal,” which was unreleased at the time. Hopefully fans will get an official Drake and Kartel song, since the latter is a free man.

Kanye West And JAY-Z’s Unreleased 2007 Collab “Buildings” Leaks Online
It’s been a strange week for Kanye West music. The rapper announced that his new album, Vultures 2, will drop August 3rd. Then, a few hours after, he took the date down from his website. Fans have been waiting to hear the second installment in the Vultures trilogy for months, and they have to keep waiting. On the bright side, a Kanye West song has mysteriously leaked online. It’s not from Vultures 2 sessions, but from the Graduation sessions back in 2007. If that doesn’t sweeten the pot, the inclusion of JAY-Z will.
The leaked song is titled “Buildings.” Kanye West has never mentioned the song, and no snippet of it had ever been released prior to July 31. That said, fans can now listen to the entire four minute collab online. JAY-Z kicks off the song with a predictably excellent verse. The most interesting part of his verse is that some lines, particularly those referencing Cuban cigars and “doing donuts” in a lambo, were eventually repurposed for the single “Otis” in 2011. The contemplative, finally-made-it feel of the song is perfectly suited to name-dropping designer labels, which is what JAY does here. A few months later, Hov would drop American Gangster (2007).

Kanye West And JAY-Z Reflect On Rap Stardom
Kanye West wins the song, though. The production is clean, with crisp piano keys littered throughout, and his verse is filled with clever bars. “Just tryna eat dog, tryna stay fresh,” he raps. “Now I got meals and I’m tryna eat less.” There’s even a reference to 50 Cent, who West was famously beefing with back in 2007. “Yeah mommy, I see you G, on the treadmill, bumping 50,” he spits. “Oh, I get it. You tryna loose that G-G-G-G-U-T.” There’s a ramshackle quality to West’s delivery, and given how polished the rest of Graduation is, one has to wonder whether he would’ve re-recorded his vocals. Regardless, the rawness is fascinating as a sort of studio time capsule.
The strangest part of “Buildings,” though, is Kanye West’s prediction of the future. The rapper was on top of the world in 2007, and hearing him reflect on his status is akin to hopping in a time machine. “As I caught a glimpse of my future,” he raps. “I got that feeling, knowing one day I’ma crush these buildings.” Kanye West wasn’t wrong. Listening to “Buildings” is going to be a bittersweet experience for anybody who misses the old Kanye. It’s a reminder of how relatable his music used to be, and a stark contrast to the music and statements in the present.

Drake’s New Album With Conductor Williams Is Reportedly Dropping Soon
Drake can’t stop. He announces breaks from the music the way other rappers announce retirements, and none of them stick. The last time the 6 God claimed to be taking personal time, he dropped the critically adored Scary Hours 3. It sounds like he’s getting back into a similar headspace. There hasn’t been a lack of Drake material in recent months, but Ebro dropped a bombshell during the July 30 episode of the Ebro In the Morning podcast. He claimed that the Toronto rapper is going to be dropping an album very, very soon.
Ebro didn’t play coy with his seemingly exclusive information. He came right out on the podcast and made it clear that Drake is in full-on rapper mode. “I heard Drake’s got a project this year,” he told his cohosts. Laura Stylez chimed in, teasing fans with an impending release date. “I heard that it’s coming sooner than we think,” she asserted. The most exciting bit of information, though, came from the third host, Peter Rosenberg. He claimed that Drizzy has been in the studio with Conductor Williams, and the two have been churning out songs together. “I also heard that he has a whole project’s worth of music done with Conductor Williams,” Rosenberg noted. “Which is the opposite [of recent Drake songs], very hip-hoppy.”

Drake And Conductor Williams Worked On FATD
Fans of For All the Dogs know the magic Drake and Conductor Williams can make together. Williams was responsible for producing “8AM In Charlotte,” which is considered to be one of Drake’s best songs of the decade. He also produced “Stories About My Brother” on Scary Hours 3. The song also contains some of Drizzy’s best rapping in years. If the claims made by the Ebro In the Morning crew are true, than fans will be getting lyrical Drake. It’s possible that not all of Williams’ beats make the final cut of the album, but given their track record, we hope most of them do.
Conductor Williams detailed his working relationship with Drake during a 2023 interview with Complex. “[Drake] is a crafts person,” he said. “And also a person of the arts. That was the main bond. The respect was mutual in that way. He made it so comfortable for me to be myself to where I start sending him the ideas that I’ve always had.” The producer then claimed that Drizzy was one of the greatest artists of his generation. “You got the greatest, one of the greatest artists,” he asserted. “Again, I’m going keep saying this, one of the greatest of my generation inspired to write. Let’s catch lightning in the bottle.”
