Screenshot 2024 08 15 at 8.45.52 AM

On the heels of the monumental moment for breaking in Paris, Red Bull BC One announces its highly anticipated 2024 USA season, culminating at Los Angeles’ famed Venice Beach. A hub to some of the most transfixing street performers, the sunny backdrop of Venice Beach will welcome the nation’s best breakers to battle it out with one goal in mind – winning the illustrious National USA Cypher (aka the national championship) crown and advancing to the global stage to represent the U.S at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in December.

“Before Paris, the biggest international breaking competition you wanted to win was Red Bull BC One, which has been around since 2004,” says two-time Red Bull BC One World Champion and Olympic medalist, Victor Montalvo, better known as B-Boy Victor. “Paris was the first look at competitive breaking for many people around the world, but the breaking scene has grown significantly since the 80’s. Red Bull BC One has not only played a pivotal role in my success and breaking journey, but it’s also the best event to tune into if you want a real look into the true spirit of the dance. I hope breaking’s new revival attracts even more fans to the competition.”

The official 2024 season will consist of two “Regional Cyphers” (regional qualifiers) to determine who will compete at the National Final in Los Angeles. The Regional Cyphers – Cypher East and Cypher West, will take place in Philadelphia on September 7th and Denver on September 20th, respectively. The breakers participating will comprise of “wildcards” (special invitees) and winners of the Red Bull BC One City Cypher series – local competitions in Detroit, Boston, Minneapolis, Miami and New York City that were open to breakers of all levels.

Sixteen b-boys and eight b-girls will take center stage at Cypher East and Cypher West, putting their best moves and creativity to the test, across a series of bracket-style rounds, where a panel of prominent figures in the breaking scene will vote on the regional champions to advance to the National Final.

With a new global audience having watched the best breakers battle it out in Paris, the 2024 Red Bull BC One season doubles down on its commitment to foster the continued growth of breaking, championing trailblazing figures and communities that have played an integral part in the dance sport’s rise to prominence and global acknowledgement.

Text Messages Between Kanye West And His Dentist Reveal Potential Nitrous Gas Addiction

Screenshot 2024 08 15 at 1.14.15 AM

Kanye West continues to make headlines and rarely with any good news, but this time his health could potentially be at risk. Candid text messages between West and his dentist that were unveiled by West’s former chief-of-staff reveal that his claims that the fashion/music mogul is addicted to nitrous gas could be valid.

Milo Yiannopoulos told the world last week that ‘Ye was facing an addiction issue and alleges that ‘Ye’s dentist Thomas P. Connelly is the primary blame for the problem. Yiannopoulos believes that Connelly is gassing West up to “[diminish] Ye’s mental faculties so that… his business associates could extract millions of dollars from him.”

Connelly and West both deny Yiannopoulos’ claims, but the recently revealed text messages tell a different story.

A group text between Yiannopoulos, West and Connelly became public this week and the correspondence was strictly about nitrous oxide aka “laughing gas”, with Connelly going as far as saying that the potentially hazardous gas should be legalized.

“This needs to be a long term goal,” the dentist writes. “Get recreational nitrous legalized.”

It was Yeezy’s reaction to Connelly’s statements which has his fans and critics alike discussing the likelihood of his addiction.

“Tom,” Kanye West writes. “You said you’d bring them by today. Checking in.”

See the entire text exchange HERE

Yiannopoulos says that he confronted Connelly about the installation of nitrous tanks in West’s L.A. home and said that the dentist claims that the tanks were ’empty”.

Connelly continues to say that there was no wrongdoing in supplying West with the nitrous oxide and claims that Yiannopoulos’ allegations are “not only factually incorrect but also intentionally misleading.”

Kurious Announces MF DOOM-Executive Produced Album, Shares “Unknown Species”

unnamed 98

Kurious, the uncommonly gifted rapper from New York City’s Upper West Side, has announced today his newest album, Majician, the nickname his peers blessed him with a generation ago. Due out October 18th on Metalface Records and Rhymesayers Entertainment, the LP, which was executive produced by his longtime friend and collaborator MF DOOM before his passing and produced by Mono En Stereo, is a mesmerizing blend of technical wizardry and personal introspection that substantiates the legacy he’s long deserved.

In 2016, Kurious flew down to Grenada and it was there that he played DOOM “Unknown Species,” the urgent track that now serves as the opening salvo on Majician. Over more trips to Grenada and eventually the United Kingdom, the LP took shape, two kindred spirits chipping away at a block of marble together. “I don’t have another creative partner in life,” Kurious says. “He’s that for me.” So it’s only natural that this project, the last document of their remarkable chemistry, would find a home with Metalface Records. Pre-order vinyl, CDs and cassettes via gasdrawls.com and rhymesayers.com, as well as additional exclusive merchandise.

[WATCH] Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock and Mike D Talk About Their Fake Gold Record For ‘Paul’s Boutique’

Screenshot 2024 08 14 at 9.44.10 AM

This week on SiriusXM’s Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Conan is joined by Ad-Rock and Mike D of Beastie Boys, who discussed how they learned their gold record for Paul’s Boutique was a fake and how they feel listening to their late partner, MCA aka Adam Yauch, when listening to their old Beastie Boys recordings.

“We had a gold record on the wall”, says Ad Rock. “It was our record “Paul’s Boutique” and I was looking at it and I could see it has our label and I could see that it has, whatever, like nine songs on the one side and I was looking at the actual gold record. It only had four songs on it and I was like, “Wait, wait. You guys,” and so we opened it and we put the record on a record player… and it was somebody doing piano versions of Barry Manilow.

Theyu also discussed the feelings that arise when they hear the voice of the late Adam “MCA” Yauch when listening to the Beastie’s older recordings.

I think enough time has gone, there was definitely a period of time where it just, I couldn’t even open up a computer music file, something that we are working on, because I would just get too sad the process would bring me right back to making, ’cause we really worked with Adam up to very close to the very, very end because that’s what made him happy.”

Quando Rondo Pleads Guilty In Federal Drug Trafficking Case

Quando Rondo Charged in Multi-Page 49 Count Indictment

Several reports have confirmed that Quando Rondo has plead guilty in his federal drug trafficking conspiracy case.

Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman, entered his plea yesterday(August 13) after his legal team came to a plea agreement to a lesser charge in June. Bowman was facing 20 years behind bars when he was arrested last year with 18 other co-defendants on charges of weapon possession, drug conspiracy and participating in gang activity.

The new agreement only requires Bowman to serve five years.

A press conference followed the hearing, where Rondo apologized to his family and fans.

“I really wanna give an apology to the city of Savannah,” he said. “And I wanna give an apology to my family and friends, loved ones and most of all my daughters for taking all my family and all my loved ones through this stressful point.”

Bowman was originally charged with 14 counts including possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, as well as conspiring with others to possess and distribute drugs including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana. He was also charged with two counts of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s controlled substances law, one count of participating in criminal activity affiliated with a street gang, and one count of illegal use of a cell phone to facilitate a drug deal.

He posted a $100K bond shortly before X-Mas last year.

Rondo’s sentencing is scheduled for December 12 in federal court.

Today In Hip Hop History: N.W.A. Released Their Second Project ‘100 Miles And Runnin’ 34 Years Ago

TodayInHipHopHistory:N.W.A.ReleaseTheirSecondProject'MilesAndRunnin'YearsAgo

On this date in 1990, “the world’s most dangerous group” dropped their second album and only EP, 100 Miles And Runnin on the Ruthless/Priority label.

This was also the first release by N.W.A. sans their lead songwriter and most celebrated emcee O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson, after a contract dispute forced the now famed rapper/actor to make his infamous departure from the group. This 5-track project was the first to throw a dart in the beef between Ice Cube and N.W.A., which led to the Cube’s legendary “No Vaseline” diss.

Even without Cube, 100 Miles reached platinum status in just under two years and for the first time, the crew could thank radio play for helping push the album.

The EP’s title track is probably the most memorable of the project, being that the songs appears on the EP as well as on N.W.A’s Greatest Hits. “Real Niggaz”, one of the project’s most celebrated b-sides, also appeared on the group’s final album, Niggaz4Life.

Salute to Dj Yella, Mc Ren, Dr. Dre, and the late Eazy -E for this timeless piece of Hip Hop history!

Chinx’s Murder Suspect Sentenced to 23 Years for Manslaughter

Screenshot 2024 07 17 at 10.55.20 PM

Quincy Homere, one of the two men convicted in the murder of Chinx, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. After sentencing, Homere released a statement to the court.

“I’d like to express my condolences to the family and anyone else that was affected by what happened here,” Homere said. “I don’t believe there’s words that can express the way I feel about what transpired here.”

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz also shared a statement:

“Quincy Homere was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for killing Lionel Pickens Jr., a successful rapper, husband and father who was mercilessly gunned down in 2015. Homere fired numerous rounds into Pickens’ car while he was stopped at a red light in Briarwood and then fled, leaving the young man for dead. Nothing can undo what happened, but I hope today’s sentence brings some solace to Pickens’ loved ones as they continue to grieve.”

According to Billboard, Homere, 32, pleaded guilty in a New York City courtroom on Monday (July 15) to first-degree manslaughter.

Chinx’s widow, Janelli Caceres, told Fox 5 NY‘s Lisa Evers that she is grateful to the NYPD, the Queens DA, friends, and fans for keeping his memory and music legacy alive.

Homere and another suspect, Jamar Hill, were arrested and charged in 2017 with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to New York Police Lieutenant Richard Rudolph, the pair allegedly “hunted down Chinx like an animal”  over a dispute that arose. At the same time, the rapper and Homere were both incarcerated at Riker’s Island in 2009.
