Kodak Black Is Back & Opening Up On “Dieuson Octave”

Kodak Black is a deceptively versatile artist. On the outside, it may not seem like it and it also sounds like he wouldn’t be. His warbly and sometimes flat-out indiscernible voice doesn’t come across as something you can copy and paste outside of the trap subgenre. However, we have seen him work with the likes of Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, and Anuel AA. But outside of features, he can tap into other tones and subjects. He’s not just about debauchery, violence, and flexing. Over time we have heard Kodak get deeply personal and honest. In fact, it was just around this time last year that we heard the Florida talent painfully rapping on When I Was Dead.

After taking some time to release a posse mixtape with his Vulture Love collective, Kodak Black is back on that energy with Dieuson Octave. For those who don’t know, the title is his government name. As such, the Pompano Beach resident is giving listeners a peek into his mind and his life experiences. He ponders and speaks out loud about the things that weigh on him too. Whether it’s his past, relationships (intimate or not), or loneliness, he’s an open book. In typical fashion, there wasn’t much of a rollout for Dieuson Octave. There was just one track released ahead of the eight-song tape and that was “Catch Fire.” What’s more is that it was dropped off on Halloween, one day ahead of the project. Still, fans should be able to appreciate Kodak’s personable approach and newcomers will learn more about the man behind the rap superstar.

Icewear Vezzo Shares 12 New Cuts From His “Live From The 6” Recording Sessions

“If you’re competing with me, it’s a waste of time and money. You should save up instead. We don’t want the same things. I’m not running out. I’m not paying attention. Plus, I’m not that fun. #LiveFromThe6 #Two #ComingSoon👿” That was Detroit rapper Icewear Vezzo about three months ago promoting (Part Two) of his 2024 album, Live From The 6. The project, out via Quality Control Music in February, featured DaBaby, Babyface Ray, YTB Fatt, and Chuckie CEO. Vezzo delivered some pretty dark, cutthroat, and earnest tracks about the lifestyle he leads and how it’s a byproduct of his hometown. Across the 13-song project, the 11-year veteran comes across as braggadocious and intimidating, which is pretty on brand.

That quote we mentioned at the beginning probably best describes Live From The 6 and its subsequent hard-hitting sequel, (Part 2). Out today, October 30, the 12 new records keep the continuity alive. Also, given that it’s out on the eve of Halloween, it’s just as perfect on its own for the spooky season. Once again, Vezzo is extremely serious on each record. “Walk Down” with Bankroll Freddie and the epic opener “Musty” are two of the prime examples. We have to applaud his work ethic this year by getting this out just eight months removed from part one. It’s consistent with how he’s been since he burst onto the scene and we love to see him keep that up for himself and his fans.

G Herbo Enlists Chris Brown, Meek Mill, & Lil Durk For “Big Swerv 2.0”

G Herbo has built a reputation for himself over the last 10 years as one of the main voices of the Chicago drill subgenre. That longevity has certainly paid dividends and bolsters that claim even more. His consistency is also another reason why he deserves that title, as he has had a new project at the ready practically every year. 2024 has been no exception, as he dropped of Big Swerv, a 14-song effort in early September.

The goal was a little bit different for Herbo this time around, focusing more on the pleasures in life rather than its cons. “I want to talk about having fun, I want to talk about traveling the world, and living life, and fashion, and stuff that everybody loves, that everybody can relate to,” he told HipHopDX prior to its release. He succeeded in that regard, and it seems that G Herbo has really been loving this release because he’s adding to it by bringing out Big Swerv 2.0. This deluxe tacks on seven more records, three of which are collaborations. He shows off his more sensitive side with Chris Brown on “Play Your Part.” Then, with the Meek Mill and Lil Durk team-ups, Herbo gets into his introspective and motivational bag that he’s known for. Check out the new additions for yourself with the DSP links.

Juice WRLD’s Estate Releases An Extended Version Of “The Pre-Party” Including Two Tracks

Juice WRLD’s team is preparing to release the late Chicago rapper’s third posthumous album, The Party Never Ends. It’s also supposedly going to be the talented spitter’s final project, so this may very well be a bittersweet moment for his fanbase. It was speculated that it would be out sometime in 2024, but not too long ago, his estate would confirm it. The celebratory tape will land on November 22, so we are just about a month away exactly. To tide listeners over, they released a tandem of songs called The Pre-Party back in early September.

They included “World Tour (Aquafina)” and “Lightyears” with Young Thug. Both were previewed years prior, so it was a nice treat for some of his most loyal supporters. It seems like these singles will most likely be loosies given the title of the EP. However, Juice WRLD’s reps are back with handful of new cuts, labeling it as The Pre-Party (Extended). For this drop, “Cavalier” and “Both Ways” are the ones to see the light of day. Similarly, these tracks focus on similar topics of fame, such as finding it and flexing it. The standout for us the dark and intimidating “Cavalier,” which sees Juice remembers the grind, which included driving a small commuter car known as the Chevrolet Cavalier, which hasn’t been in production for over 15 years. Check out the songs with the links below.

They gon’ make me blow my fuse

Got my hand on my tool, pop a couple of blues
Then I pour up a pint ’til I take me a snooze

Real Boston Richey Delivers A Sequel To His Hit “Help Me” On New EP “Go Richey”

Real Boston Richey hasn’t been as active in 2024 as in years prior, but he’s made up for it in a different way. At the end of May, the Tallahassee, Florida talent dropped his “Help Me” single and it blew up. The song was trending on YouTube in its first few days thanks to an early explosion in views. What’s really wild is that almost five months later, and the video for it is still ranking extremely high. The Freebandz signee has racked up over 23 million plays, which equates to the 14th top music video.

Go Richey, Go Richey, Go Richey! Ironically, that’s the name for his new EP, although, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t try and make that pun on purpose. Jokes aside, though, Real Boston Richey has two new songs following the aforementioned track’s success. One of them is “Go Richey” and the other is in fact a sequel to “Help Me”. It does a solid job connecting the themes to the original, as he seems like he’s wanting to settle down with one woman as opposed to messing around with a few. While it might be more of a tender cut, it’s still got some outrageous bars. Just trust us and listen for yourself with the links below.

Quotable Lyrics From “Help Me 2”:

I be adding that money to Cash App, every time I hear you moan
Bet I caught me on, whenever I’m trickin’, that’s just what I’m on
Read it or leave all the money up in your purse, when you wake I might be gone

Benny The Butcher & 38 Spesh Recruit Busta Rhymes For “Jesus Arms” Two Pack

Benny The Butcher and 38 Spesh may have never been on the same label, but they sure do have an unbreakable connection. Their history spans several years, with countless grimy and hard-hitting collaborations. Sometimes, they come together with joint projects, and they have been doing that since 2008, if you can believe that. It all started with Cocaine Cowboys, released under T.C.F. Music Group. Typically, when you see that label, –run by Spesh– Benny’s Black Soprano Family, LLC is usually attached to their collab tapes.

What we are trying to say is that these two have another record coming out soon and it’s a sequel. On October 18, STABBED & SHOT 2 will hit DSPs over six years after the original Stabbed & Shot. This will just be another day at the office for Spesh and Butch, as both prolific MCs have multiple LPs out in 2024. For the former, this will bring his total to five, and three for the latter. To promote STABBED & SHOT 2, they are here with a two-pack featuring “Jesus Arms” and “Brick Specials”. The former features Busta Rhymes, who is one of nine different guests on this upcoming 16-song set. Check out the tracks with the links below.

Higher than a hiker that’s climbin’ a mountain of weed
Blessed like it’s God in the flesh, you’re not in my league

Sampha Somehow Makes “Lahai” Even Better With Four New Deluxe Cuts

Sampha doesn’t emerge from his cave very often, but when he does, it’s such a pleasure to witness him out in the wild. Even with his limited catalog, the London multi-hyphenate possesses one of the strongest amongst the rest of the talents in his playing field. Late last year, the feature powerhouse put out his sophomore album Lahai, which focuses a lot on family and big picture questions. He told NME, “I was just wondering about life and big questions, feeling the need to hold onto something or portray a bird’s eye view of my life because I felt like every day was going into every day”. The project certainly sounds as expansive as it’s themes, with sweeping and transformative instrumentals that evoke a sense of wonder and imagination.

We are almost exactly one year removed from it coming out and to help celebrate, Sampha has come through with the deluxe version of Lahai. There are four “new” songs to be had including the previously released “Satellite Business 2.0” featuring fellow UK artist and femcee, Little Simz. If there is a better fully fleshed out version of an interlude, we would like to hear it because this may be the best of its kind. Others include a more “aggressive” version of “Dancing Circles” with a “(2.0)” version, as well as “Re-Entry” and “Sensory Nectar”. Sampha says all of these tracks were either teased at shows and are evolutions of those live performances or are from the vault. Hint: These cuts make it even better.

Kamaiyah Delivers An Easy & Breezy Listening Experience With “Before We Party”

Kamaiyah has a cult following and it’s for good reason. Overall, the Oakland, California native can give you all sorts of vibes at any given moment. She can go from funky West Coast bangers to more vibey and slowed down cuts. The latter is what she was delivering on her latest mini album, Figuring Out My Emotions. Overall, it was about all of the feelings she had dealt with recently. Her being able to switch up her style so effortlessly also leads to an exciting unpredictability factor. It seems that whenever she experiences some sort of mood swing, she becomes inspired to drop something new. That could be what has led Kamaiyah to drop off this new seven-track tape, Before We Party.

To us, this project feels like it’s here to tide fans over for something in the LP format. Part of our reasoning actual comes just from the title itself. However, the tracks are also contributing to that. Given that it’s just over 18 minutes long, Before We Party appears to be here for the vibes and no more than that. But to be honest, that’s not a bad thing, especially when its Kamaiyah the one bringing them. She’s someone you can almost always go to for crisply produced and fun tracks. That’s exactly what this is, and it does it very well. Kamaiyah sadly never got the same love as some of the bigger femcees, but that doesn’t bother us. She’s consistent as they come and it’s why we keep coming back to her projects no matter how big or small.

Hunxho Gives Us Two Emotionally Charged Cuts With “Part Of The Plan” & “Hold Me Down”

2024’s XXL Freshman Class has some potential. It’s not always easy to predict who will and who won’t breakout in the future. But with this year’s edition, there a couple that we are starting to see the vision with One of those is Hunxho, an Atlanta native who is already developing a pretty recognizable melodic delivery. His sound is also a nice blend of traditional trap with some hints of introspection, emo rap, and R&B. We would argue that all of these elements are on these two new tracks from Hunxho, “Part Of The Plan” and “Hold Me Down”.

The six-year veteran has been dropping quite a bit since achieving the honor, with six singles and a mini project making up the releases so far. The latter of them, Before The Album, had some solid ideas at its core, however, there are some slight mixing errors that we noted. Hopefully, when the real LP arrives, Hunxho will be able to correct them. “Part Of The Plan” and “Hold Me Down” sound like they were put together pretty flawlessly, including the messaging of each one. The former is a mini commentary on the “bulls***” state of music, as well as his goals and ambitions. “Hold Me Down” is a love cut in which Hunxho is yearning for a deep connection. Overall, both have a lot to like, so spin ’em below.
