The Weeknd & Lily-Rose Depp Drop Provocative Track “Dollhouse”

The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp have been catching a whole lot of flack for their roles in The Idol. Overall, the show has been getting some putrid reviews. Moreover, some feel like their acting leaves a lot to be desired. Having said all of that, the first season came to an end on Sunday. It was a weird ending, to say the least, as some felt like the decisions made by Jocelyn were simply nonsensical. Either way, the show is now over, and it remains to be seen if a second season is in the cards.

During the finale episode, there was a song that played during a very pivotal scene. The song was sung by Jocelyn, and it contained some raunchy lyrics and the choreography to match. Subsequently, The Weeknd decided to release the song, much to the delight of fans. One thing we don’t hear in the episode is the fact that Abel actually as his own verse near the end of the song. Ultimately, his addition to the song is a breath of fresh air.

Overall, this is a song that is meant to shock you with some of the lyrics. Although, some are just going to roll their eyes seeing as though the show has already had plenty of these moments already. Either way, it is clear that the song is catchy, and the chord progressions are peak Mike Dean. Interestingly enough, Mike Dean is in the show, which serves as a nice cameo that will get music fans more invested in the show.

SPINALL & Wizkid Keep The Summer Hot On “Loju,” Their New Song

SPINALL and Wizkid are among the two most prominent and celebrated figures in the Afrobeat genre, expanding further into dancehall, pop, and much more. In fact, the latter in particular just became the first African artist to score three platinum-certified singles by the RIAA. Moreover, they have plenty of tracks together, whether as solo releases or as part of larger projects from either creative. However, this newest single that they dropped this week, “Loju,” might just be one of their best collaborations yet for many fans, and hopefully serves as an entry point into them for many others. After all, the two Nigerian artists cook up a lot of chemistry here and show off their penchant for charismatic and infectious melodies.

Lyrically, SPINALL and Wizkid focus on wanting to have a good time with a lady, having a fun party, and some other playful and summery references. While it might not seem like a lot at first glance, this is one of those songs that conveys its easy-going message through its song without even needing to read into the lyrics. As such, they reinforce the themes with some sweet lines and words of longing and joy. Wizkid opens “Loju” up with a catchy intro before the even catchier chorus, and introduces some other interesting melodies to switch things up. Hopefully there’s much more to come from these two in the future, and with how they’re progressing and going farther as two of the biggest in the genre, it would only make sense.

Meanwhile, the instrumental creatively incorporates some faster percussion hits in certain sections that inject “Loju” with some more energy. Between the crisp afrobeat rhythm, atmospheric synth pads, and wailing lead melody, this is an easy add on any summer playlist. Lil Uzi Vert & Travis Scott’s “Aye” Off “The Pink Tape” Is A Moshpit Banger

Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape proved itself to be quite the versatile project: metal headbangers, rage, synth-led bops, and some softer cuts. Overall, fans of any style of theirs will probably find at least a couple of tracks to latch onto on this gargantuan and highly-anticipated project. However, there’s one song here that’s meant for the moshpit frequenters, and that’s “Aye” featuring none other than Travis Scott. Of course, this explosive track is exactly what fans expected from this team-up, and it’s actually been a long time coming. Not only is this a previous leak, but it’s also their first official collaboration since the 2018 single “Watch.”

As far as their performances, the two MCs follow a similar vocal and melodic path when it comes to their flows. Rather, La Flame follows Lil Uzi Vert’s flow at first, and includes some switch-ups and more high-pitched vocalizations throughout. In Uzi’s case, they bring the energy to almost overloading levels with their shouts, emphatic lines, and rough tone. They show off plenty of chemistry here, even if Travis Scott has a pretty cringe griddy bar in there that doesn’t show him at his best pen game by any means. Even though the Philly MC isn’t going full lyrical miracle either, both artists bring an infectious energy to “Aye” that will have you shouting that repetitive chorus as well.

Meanwhile, the instrumental here is dramatic, hype-fueling, and addictive. The gorgeous strings that start the track off actually change pitch at a certain point, making the beat just a little more dynamic. Along with a slow-tempo trap beat with minimal hi-hats and snares (plus booming bass), it’s exactly the kind of track to throw elbows out and jump to at a show. Fredo Bang Declares “Free Melly” In New Song

The YNW Melly double murder trial has been one of the biggest hip-hop stories of the year so far. In addition to all the regular case developments, the court mentioned plenty of rappers in their proceedings so far, whether for their involvement or in reference. One that is allegedly involved in the murders Melly stands accused of committing is Fredo Bang. Prosecutors argued that the Baton Rogue rapper picked the Florida MC up after he allegedly fatally shot YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. Now, he came through with a track in support of Melly, aptly titled “Free Melly” as many fans online are clamoring.

However, at first glance, the lyrics here don’t reference or talk about YNW Melly’s case at length; he most notably denied giving information in the case. Rather, the 27-year-old got into his storytelling and narrative bag, providing a lot of detailed descriptions of his rough street life and taking down his opposition. Sure, there is one sole mention of Melly, talking about how they’ve been close for a long time and his refusal to talk to the police or court. Other than that, “Free Melly” is a portrait of Fredo Bang’s day-to-day, or instead some of his darkest and most contentious moments. There are some sharp lines here that are meant to hit you in your core rather than make you evaluate the wordplay, and he switches from more easy-going flows to rapid-fire bars.

Meanwhile, the production her is reminiscent of something that NBA YoungBoy would ride with pride (after all, they’re both from Louisiana). Breezy guitars and piano mesh with a mid-tempo trap beat to create a surprisingly bright sonic pallet for the MC to float over. We’ll see how the rest of the trial progresses, and whether or not this song turns into an anthem for it. Flo Milli Teams Up With 2Rare, Maiya The Don, & Kari Faux For 7-Eleven Banger, “Anything Flows”

Sampha Returns With “Spirit 2.0,” First Song In 6 Years

Sampha has made his long-awaited return with his first new song in six years. The English singer dropped “Spirit 2.0” for fans on Wednesday. He worked with Yaeji, El Guincho, and Ibeyi’s Lisa-Kaindé Diaz, among others on the effort. Sampha previously previewed the song during recent concerts in New York and London.

“It’s about the importance of connection to both myself and others, and the beauty and harsh realities of just existing,” Sampha said of “Spirit 2.0” in a press release. In the song, he sings, “Now I’m drifting into open skies/And I ain’t scared as before.” Check out the full song below.

He continued in the press release: “It’s about acknowledging those moments when you need help—that requires real strength. I hope people can enjoy that feeling of someone being there for you, even if that person doesn’t have the answers. Just calling someone up without overthinking… letting go and just dancing… wanting to see past the mundanity of things and appreciating the magic of it all, from birds nests to spaceships.”

Despite not releasing any solo music since his full-length debut album, Process, in 2017, Sampha has collaborated with numerous other artists in the time since. He’s appeared on Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers (“Father Time”), SBTRKT’s The Rat Road (“L.F.O.“), and Stormzy’s This Is What I Mean (“Sampha’s Plea”), among others.

As for upcoming releases, Drake recently teased on his Instagram Story that the two have something in the works. “@sampha and me cooking up something cr*zy,” Drake captioned a photo of the two of them. “Weird you lost your London accent, but whatever people evolve I guess.” Sampha has yet to confirm any details on a new album, but back in April, he released a vinyl repress of his 2013 EP, Dual, and wrote on Instagram: “Once again thank you for those who are still listening.. Although he seemingly came out of nowhere, it would be a mistake to dismiss him. His flows are some of the cr*ziest we have seen in a very long time. Moreover, he is someone who picks incredible beats, predominantly from BNYX, who we absolutely love. Needless to say, Yeat is on the right track.

Just yesterday, we wrote about a couple of snippets that he shared with his fans. For the most part, the artist has been getting experimental as of late. However, his latest snippets were more in line with what we usually hear from him. Now though, it seems like he is about to collaborate with one of the biggest artists in the world. We are talking about none other than Travis Scott. He has been hard at work on UTOPIA, although he seems to also be working with Yeat.

This title in and of itself tells us this is going to be an album with a very distinct sound. Additionally, he announced that he has a new tour on the horizon that will certainly get fans excited. To top it all off, he dropped off a song called “Big Hammer.”

Overall, this is a song that is going to polarize people, pretty well-off rip. There are some harsh production choices at play here. Furthermore, we don’t actually hear James Blake’s singing. Instead, we get some vocals that contain a unique flare to them. It is something that fans probably wouldn’t have expected from the British musician. While some may love this new direction, there will be plenty of others who will want him to go back to his old ways.

The Weeknd Previews Song With Lil Baby On IG Live

The Weeknd has been inundated with heavy criticism as of late. Overall, it is all thanks to his role in the new HBO series The Idol. Although the show seemingly had potential, it has been a complete mess. The plot lines have been incomprehensible at times, while the acting hasn’t been great. The artist has been quick to defend the show on Twitter, however, people don’t like how Abel is coming across. Needless to say, the whole series is on the verge of cancelation, with the last episode of the season airing this Sunday.

One strong point of the series, however, has been the music. Every single week, The Weeknd has dropped a song from the soundtrack. Overall, these songs have been quite good and have even had some strong features on them. Recently, the artist revealed that a couple of the new tracks would even feature Lil Baby. This has gotten fans excited, as Lil Baby and The Weeknd typically make a good team. Of course, we saw this with “Hurrican,” a single from Kanye’s Donda album.
