KAYTRANADA Releases Of Pair Of Lowkey Jams With New EP “Lover/Friend”

Haitian-born producer KAYTRANADA has firmly established himself at this point in his career. Ever since bursting onto the scene back in 2016 with his debut album, 99.9%, his trajectory has only gone up from there. What helped immediately stand out to listeners was how willing he was to produce for different genres. Over time, KAYTRANADA has gotten better with each release. He has become an expert in basically every sound he has dabbled in. From house, hip-hop, dance, funk, R&B, and electronic, he can do it all.

This year was the first time he came out with a collaboration project. For many, it went over pretty well. KAYTRANADA and the always-colorful Aminé routinely brought out the best in each other. KAYTRAMINÉ featured the infectious “4EVA” with Pharrell Williams. It was an immediate summer hit. Additionally, tracks like “Master P” with Big Sean, and “EYE” with Snoop Dogg were solid as well.

Queen Naija is a talented singer, there is no disputing that. She is back to put her skills on full display with a brand-new, 10-track EP, After the Butterflies. Over the course of 2023, Naija had been releasing a single here and there to keep her fans satisfied. Drake Fans Thank Joe Budden For “Scary Hours 3”

Drake dropped his eagerly-anticipated new EP Scary Hours 3 recently, delivering six new tracks to his fans. The release came only weeks after the hitmaker unveiled his latest full-length album For All The Dogs, and fans were under the impression that he’d be taking some time off. They were quickly proven wrong, however, and jumped to theorize as to why Drake changed his mind.

Back at the beginning of October, Joe Budden shared his thought on For All The Dogs during an episode of his podcast. He had some harsh words for the LP, revealing that he thought Drake missed the mark. “I miss the Drake that was rapping for the rappers,” he explained.

Fans Think Joe Budden’s Criticism Inspired Drake

Famously, Drake fired back with a lengthy Instagram comment, dragging Budden for his critique. This resulted in a bit of back and forth, subliminal dissing, and more. While some thought Budden went too hard on the Toronto native, others think his criticism was just what Drake needed, and inspired him to drop Scary Hours 3.

The EP’s getting praised on social media for its straightforward bars, which are just what Budden said he felt like For All The Dogs was missing. Of course, he also took some shots at the personality on his track “Stories About My Brothers,” painting a similar picture of Budden that he did in his aforementioned Instagram rant. “Imagine us getting our validation from an ex-musician searching for recognition/ Same story every time, they heckle in repetition/ I’m top of the mountain, these n***as still down at base camp, they planning they expedition,” he spits.

Drake Has Something New On The Way

“I’ll say this to you: I’m not… I feel no need to appease anybody,” Drake says. “I feel so confident about the body of work that I just dropped that I know I could go and disappear for, whatever, six months, a year, two years — even though I’m not really, like, into [laughs] I’m not really into the super lengthy disappearances for the sake of mystery, but… you know, ultimately, it’s coming to me in a way that I haven’t experienced maybe since, like, If You’re Reading This, where it’s just kind of like, I feel like I’m on drugs. I feel like I’m in that mental state without doing anything. I did those songs in the last five days.

“I didn’t have one bar written down for those songs on the night that For All The Dogs dropped. It’s not like I’m picking up from some unfinished sh*t, you know, this is just… it’s happening on its own. And, you know, who am I to fight it, right? And to fight back against the right thing would be… you know.” Let us know how excited you are for the EP, in the comments section below. 38 Spesh & Elcamino Team Up For Gritty New EP “Martyrs Prayer II”

As brief as EPs can be, sometimes they are truly the distilled and absolute best parts of an artistic link-up. Here to prove that are rapper Elcamino and rapper-producer 38 Spesh, who take up bar-spitting duties and behind-the-board responsibilities respectively on Martyrs Prayer II. Moreover, if you are a fan of Griselda, you’ve probably heard these names before; if you’re not but you love hip-hop of the Golden Age, you should check this out. It’s a concise, skillful, and often reflective and dense collection of six tracks, which equal all killer and no filler. Spesh’s production is dusty, nonetheless versatile, and punchy, whereas the They Spit On Jesus MC is a compelling and narratively talented spitter.

Furthermore, Martyrs Prayer II‘s title indicates a somber reflection on lives of crime and struggle, which is definitely reflected on a few bars and beats. Just look at the languid bass on “No Drums” or the wistful keys on “Streets Don’t Love Us” for indications of that, in addition to Elcamino’s wordplay and picture-painting. Of course, this chemistry between him and 38 Spesh is hardly a shocker, as they have collaborated on full-length projects to great success before. For example, there’s the 2020 record Sacred Psalms, plus many other one-off tracks.

Meanwhile, as pretty prolific figures within rap, it’s also not surprising that this is just one of their various musical endeavors form 2023. For 38 Spesh, one instance of this is the aptly titled Conway The Machine collab album, Speshal Machinery. All we can hope for is that it’s not the last thing they drop for the next couple of months, because this confident, grounded, and vintage take on boom-bap is always a welcome treat. If you haven’t heard Martyrs Prayer II yet, find it on your preferred streaming service- and if or once you have, let us know what you think about it in down there in the comments section. Omar Apollo Drops A Heavenly EP With “Live For Me”

If you are looking to get into artists like Daniel Caesar, SZA, Kali Uchis, and others, you have to check out Omar Apollo. While he does not have the mass appeal of those aforementioned singers, he has a stunning voice. On top of that, he possesses a great ear for production. Combine both of those qualities and you have yourself a terrific do-it-all musician. Omar is finally back after a year-long bridge between his last project. That would happen to be his album, Ivory. He tapped, you guessed it, Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis as his only two guests.

Ironically, though, Apollo was not really inspired by these artists. He drew from a wide pool including names like Prince, Alicia Keys, and Sly And The Family Stone. Omar’s name has been blowing up recently, too. He opened for SZA during her SOS Tour and appeared on the latest Caesar project, NEVER ENOUGH. Based on all of the names we listed, he pulls from plenty of sounds to make him sound unique. The Indiana-born singer dabbles in genres of alternative R&B, pop, soul, bedroom pop, and more.
