38 Spesh & Elcamino Team Up For Gritty New EP “Martyrs Prayer II”

As brief as EPs can be, sometimes they are truly the distilled and absolute best parts of an artistic link-up. Here to prove that are rapper Elcamino and rapper-producer 38 Spesh, who take up bar-spitting duties and behind-the-board responsibilities respectively on Martyrs Prayer II. Moreover, if you are a fan of Griselda, you’ve probably heard these names before; if you’re not but you love hip-hop of the Golden Age, you should check this out. It’s a concise, skillful, and often reflective and dense collection of six tracks, which equal all killer and no filler. Spesh’s production is dusty, nonetheless versatile, and punchy, whereas the They Spit On Jesus MC is a compelling and narratively talented spitter.

Furthermore, Martyrs Prayer II‘s title indicates a somber reflection on lives of crime and struggle, which is definitely reflected on a few bars and beats. Just look at the languid bass on “No Drums” or the wistful keys on “Streets Don’t Love Us” for indications of that, in addition to Elcamino’s wordplay and picture-painting. Of course, this chemistry between him and 38 Spesh is hardly a shocker, as they have collaborated on full-length projects to great success before. For example, there’s the 2020 record Sacred Psalms, plus many other one-off tracks.

Meanwhile, as pretty prolific figures within rap, it’s also not surprising that this is just one of their various musical endeavors form 2023. For 38 Spesh, one instance of this is the aptly titled Conway The Machine collab album, Speshal Machinery. All we can hope for is that it’s not the last thing they drop for the next couple of months, because this confident, grounded, and vintage take on boom-bap is always a welcome treat. Nigerian Afrobeats artist Rema is one of the most popular names in the lane. He has only been around since 2019 but he has had a meteoric rise to notoriety. Right now he sits at over 34 million monthly listeners on Spotify. You might have heard one of his songs on the radio recently. “Calm Down,” especially the version with pop star Selena Gomez has been one of the biggest hits of the year. It lands on the latest edition of his debut project, Rave & Roses Ultra. The undeniable grooves and melodies on the song have made it a global phenomenon. At the time of writing this, it sits at nearly 1.1 billion plays.

Another song you will hear his voice on is Ice Spice’s new track, “Pretty Girl.” It sees the femcee do a total 180° to fit Rema’s style. While many casual listeners most likely only know these two cuts because of the names attached to them, you might want to hear more of his material. However, there is one newer member of the team, Benji. You might want to start getting used to hearing this guy’s name because he possesses serious range. This is HNHH‘s first time covering this artist’s solo material, so let us give you a quick rundown of who Benji. is. According to his Spotify profile, he was born Ian Benjamin Welch.

Benji. hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with music playing a major role in his earlier years. Over time, he became a self-taught musician, producer, artist, and live performer as well. A lot of his sound draws inspiration from soul and hip-hop, psych-rock as well as funk. We briefly mentioned that this is the first time we have talked about his solo work. But, Benji. did land on the “Bobby Boucher” single with Spillage Village.

Omar Apollo Drops A Heavenly EP With “Live For Me”

If you are looking to get into artists like Daniel Caesar, SZA, Kali Uchis, and others, you have to check out Omar Apollo. While he does not have the mass appeal of those aforementioned singers, he has a stunning voice. On top of that, he possesses a great ear for production. Combine both of those qualities and you have yourself a terrific do-it-all musician. Omar is finally back after a year-long bridge between his last project. That would happen to be his album, Ivory. He tapped, you guessed it, Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis as his only two guests.

Ironically, though, Apollo was not really inspired by these artists. He drew from a wide pool including names like Prince, Alicia Keys, and Sly And The Family Stone. Omar’s name has been blowing up recently, too. He opened for SZA during her SOS Tour and appeared on the latest Caesar project, NEVER ENOUGH. Based on all of the names we listed, he pulls from plenty of sounds to make him sound unique. The Indiana-born singer dabbles in genres of alternative R&B, pop, soul, bedroom pop, and more.

On this latest EP, Live For Me, Apollo goes into his bedroom pop and alternative R&B side. It is a tight four tracks and runs just under 16 minutes. Sematary Returns With New EP “King Of The Graveyard”

Sematary is back just in time for October with a new EP, King Of The Graveyard. He kicked things off right with the EP’s lead single last week, giving fans a taste of what was to come. The single is joined by a haunting accompanying music video which takes place in, you guessed it, a graveyard.

The 22-year-old performer is seen dancing along to the unapologetically spooky track, fittingly adorned with a crown while he waves around a weapon. Heavy production meets distorted vocals and ghoulish ad-libs, making the track the perfect addition to Halloween playlists everywhere. The new EP follows Sematary’s collab with Blp Kosher which he dropped off in June, “Huntin Wabbits.” It also follows his January release, Butcher House. The 12-track project saw features from Buckshot, Hackle, Turnabout and more.

He also tapped Turnabout for his new King Of The Graveyard EP, teaming up with the 19-year-old producer for “3AM Gang.” Sematary stays true to his roots with this latest project, combining menacing lyrics with gothic themes and reminding listeners that he’s a true “grave man.”

Sematary chatted with Complex at Summer Smash back in June, revealing that the highlight of his year so far has been landing a Chief Keef feature. “I got a Sosa feature on my song,” he told the outlet. “With Zac FTP for the FTP album. It’s called ‘F*ck The World.’ I got Chief Keef on my sh*t, so no one can ever say sh*t about me now. Like he made all of this, there ain’t no any of this without him. Megan Thee Stallion Hints At Cardi B Collaborative EP & Tour

Megan Thee Stallion says that she has considered the idea of dropping a collaborative EP with Cardi B and would even be down to tour together. She discussed the possibility during an interview with Complex published on Tuesday.

“I literally think that’s the route that we’re going,” she began. “So I’ve done two songs for her. And now I feel like I’m in a space where I know exactly what songs I want her to do for me. So we’re really building a little EP already. We’re gonna have enough music that we need to go on tour together. Me and [Cardi] going out together will be so amazing. We are already so cool. And I feel like we got similar fans. So if she wanted to do a little EP, I would definitely be so down to do that, but we are making enough music to already have that.”

Megan and Cardi most recently worked on the single, “Bongos,” which they performed together at the MTV Video Music Awards, last week. They also dropped one of the biggest songs of 2020, “WAP.”

Megan also spoke more broadly about the new music that she’s working on. Echoing similar comments she made while speaking with ET for a separate interview, she described herself as entering a “new chapter.” “I’m making music that I really, really love,” she said. “I’m making music that I’m not about to have to fight with anybody about. But with this album, I feel like I’m getting to the meat. I’m getting to the bones. It’s my story, and I’m telling it. I’m so excited because it’s just turning the page into like this new chapter of my life and I feel like the Hotties are gonna be so excited to hear it.”

Little Brother Releases Two-Track EP “Wish Me Well / Glory Glory”

Durham, North Carolina rap duo, Little Brother, has just made a triumphant return. In fact, it has been four years since the release of any new material. The last time we got music from Phonte and Big Pooh was back on August 20, 2019. It came in the form of an album called, May the Lord Watch. It was a 15-track 37-minute-long project with no features. After that, we have not heard anything from them.

However, the legendary East Coast group is having a little celebration coming up next month. The special occasion is for their debut album which has now been out for two decades. They felt it was only right to throw a block party for one day on October 7. Little Brother announced this back on August 8 on their Instagram. The name if the event is “Made In Durham: A Little Brother Block Party.” Some special guests will also be a part of this full-circle moment, including Big K.R.I.T.

It has been a busy year to say the least for Brooklyn’s own, Ransom. The storied career of this hip-hop artist will go down as one that is iconic but also underappreciated. A true wordsmith and intimidating MC, Ransom has been pumping quality since the late 2000s. Already this year, the prolific rapper has put out two EPs and an album to boot.

The first of which was the LP, Directors Cut 4. It featured artists such as Nicholas Craven, Che Noir, Tali Kweli, and more. Then, after that, only a couple of weeks went by before we were delightedly treated to Ransom’s first EP of the year with Deleted Scenes 2. That was a full collab effort with Nicholas Craven in the booth. The song titles were cleverly named after movie titles of different genres.

D4VD Quickly Follows Up His First EP With “The Lost Petals”

To put that in perspective the song is off of his first-ever EP, Petals to Thorns, which was released on May 26, 2023. That is only three and a half months roughly of the song being out.

It is an incredible feat for the 18-year-old to say the least and he is only going up from here.
