IDK Leaves Off “Bravado + Intimo” Featuring Joey Bada$$, Gunna, & More

Maryland multi-talent IDK has been a Swiss Army knife for years, and it’s very apparent once again on his latest effort, BRAVADO + INTiMO. The idea behind this body of work is to show off his mixture of bold and demonstrative side, as well as his more intimate and personal persona. This is presented both in the title of the project and of the tracks. Some have “(B)’s” or “(i)’s” next to them, which indicates the type of the vibe and tone you will hear on said record. It’s split pretty much down the middle, and in a way, this is sort of double disc album. Leading up to its release, IDK put out four singles, three of which boasted features.

“DENiM” with Joey Bada$$, “TiFFANY” featuring Gunna, and the TheARTI$t-assisted “SUPERNOVA” were those cuts. Despite clean and accessible production that sounds pleasant to the ears, the performances themselves aren’t too memorable. He’s done more daring and replay-able things on projects like Simple. and F65, for example. The duality aspect is there, but the beats carry the experience for us at least. Overall, it may be a little to barebones on the lyrical front. IDK did say though, “My goal with this album was to simplify everything. With B.i., I just wanted to sing over beats that artists like MF DOOM would normally rap over and only rap when it felt the most natural.” We can admire his dedication to stick to an idea, but we feel he’s at his best when he takes more risks. Still, give BRAVADO + INTiMO a try and see what you think of it.

Westside Gunn Returns To Form On DJ Drama-Assisted Album “Still Praying”

Westside Gunn really doesn’t have much to prove anymore at this stage of his career. Many already respect his unconscious work ethic and craftsmanship and the length at which he’s done so. However, it is fair to argue that his quality has seen a dip as of late. He’s definitely has had his hits since the turn of the 2020’s decade such as 10. But in just 24 hours, his fans are back on the bandwagon so to speak. The Flygod dropped a bombshell last week when he said he was going to be dropping twice in seven days. 11, part of the Hitler Wears Hermes series, got things started on Halloween and we must say it was a tremendous opening set.

But the magic didn’t run out on those five tracks because Westside Gunn and DJ Drama cooked up something equally special with Still Praying. This the third album within the Pray for collection, and it’s arguably the best one yet. This offering takes things back to the classic WSG era where he hopped on dusty yet luxurious boom bap beats. As a curator, he’s been pretty underrated. But with Still Praying, it’s hard to say that because the instrumentals are extremely layered and textured. They will put you in a trance more often than not. We feel Westside is back, so do the fans, and we think you will agree with the masses once you spin it.

Kodak Black Is Back & Opening Up On “Dieuson Octave”

Kodak Black is a deceptively versatile artist. On the outside, it may not seem like it and it also sounds like he wouldn’t be. His warbly and sometimes flat-out indiscernible voice doesn’t come across as something you can copy and paste outside of the trap subgenre. However, we have seen him work with the likes of Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, and Anuel AA. But outside of features, he can tap into other tones and subjects. He’s not just about debauchery, violence, and flexing. Over time we have heard Kodak get deeply personal and honest. In fact, it was just around this time last year that we heard the Florida talent painfully rapping on When I Was Dead.

After taking some time to release a posse mixtape with his Vulture Love collective, Kodak Black is back on that energy with Dieuson Octave. For those who don’t know, the title is his government name. As such, the Pompano Beach resident is giving listeners a peek into his mind and his life experiences. He ponders and speaks out loud about the things that weigh on him too. Whether it’s his past, relationships (intimate or not), or loneliness, he’s an open book. In typical fashion, there wasn’t much of a rollout for Dieuson Octave. There was just one track released ahead of the eight-song tape and that was “Catch Fire.” What’s more is that it was dropped off on Halloween, one day ahead of the project. Still, fans should be able to appreciate Kodak’s personable approach and newcomers will learn more about the man behind the rap superstar.

Freddie Gibbs Strikes Back With Gritty Album “YOU ONLY DIE 1NCE”

Freddie Gibbs is back. The rapper may best be known for his collaborations with Madlib, but his solo material has always benefited from having a conceptual edge. It may seem like he’s telling traditional stories over hard-hitting production, but there’s always something more eclectic and ambitious under the surface. YOU ONLY DIE 1NCE is a perfect example. The album is a sequel to Freddie Gibbs’ release YOU ONLY LIVE 2WICE, and like the title suggests, it focuses on mortality. The lead single, “On the Set,” was a weighty tribute to fallen rappers like Biggie and Nipsey Hussle.

“On the Set” is actually the last song on the album, which means the rest of the songs build up to it. The placement was not accidental. Freddie Gibbs waxes poetic over this somber collection of songs, like with the meditative “It’s Your Anniversary” or the menacing “Ruthless.” Gibbs manages the rare feat keeping the tracklist both cohesive and varied. “Brick Fees” sees the rapper rattle off bars over a measured beat, and “Wolverine” may just be the best song on the whole album. There’s nothing flashy about the music or Freddie Gibbs’ rhyme scheme, but the earnestness on display is what has always allowed the rapper to stand out from his peers.

Lil Uzi Vert Soars With Eclectic New Album “Eternal Atake 2”

Hats off to Lil Uzi Vert. The rapper has managed to orchestrate a stellar rollout for his new album Eternal Atake 2 in the span of a couple weeks. He dropped inventive promo videos and a teaser song that served as a theme to the “Uzi the Earthling.” The theme isn’t on the album, but now that we have Eternal Atake 2 it’s understandable. Lil Uzi Vert’s latest is a fascinating mashup and styles and sounds from the different album cycles. It’s not a culmination, per say, but it feels like it takes the Eternal Atake sound and applies elements of PINK TAPE for something wholly unique.

“We Good” kicks things off with a bold, cinematic sound, before transitioning to the more aggressive sounds “Light Year (Practice).” Lil Uzi Vert handles most of the songs on the album himself, which feels like an especially bold choice in a hip hop landscape predicated on extensive features. “Not An Option” is a wonky banger with an earworm beat, while “Black Hole” leans into the extraterrestrial aesthetic laid out by the artwork. The biggest surprise in the tracklist, though, is Lil Uzi Vert’s collaboration with Big Time Rush, “The Rush.” It shouldn’t work, and it wouldn’t work with most rapper, but Uzi has the eclectic mix and the ambition to pull it off. Another Uzi Vert success.

Central Cee Announces Release Date For Debut Album “Can’t Rush Greatness”

Central Cee has spent the last few years building one of the biggest profiles in U.K. rap on an international level, whether through hot singles like his most recent effort, “One By One,” and his blockbuster collaborations. But folks still have their skepticisms, given the fact that he doesn’t have a studio album under his belt among his various smaller projects. Well, Cench is going to change all of that very soon. He will drop his debut studio album Can’t Rush Greatness on January 24, which is a fitting title. As such, we know of at least one major hip-hop LP that will kick off the second half of the 2020s decade.

Not much else is known about this new album, other than a presumed cover art and this release date. As far as Central Cee’s sonic direction, amount of tracks, whether or not it will include previous singles, and other questions, we can only guess. Hopefully it’s a solid effort reflective of his skills, effort, and talent. The London native has stayed busy elsewhere throughout his career too, such as a recent Air Max 95 collab. But we’re sure that he’s been just as focused on this new body of work.

Central Cee Announces Can’t Rush Greatness Release Date

Of course, not every corner of the Internet is down to hear this Central Cee project, an impossible feat for any artist. Some fans still remember his viral Bantu knots which caused a lot of controversy earlier this year, or just don’t like the music that he puts out. But regardless of this criticism, the 26-year-old has a lot more greatness to pay attention to and seek motivation through. We’ll have to see what Can’t Rush Greatness provides, and how it resonates with his audience and others worldwide.

Meanwhile, this new album rollout comes with a bit of a recent publicity push, despite this being more of a negative look for some. Fans went wild over cheating allegations involving Ice Spice and Central Cee, though that narrative already died out. Maybe folks will have already forgotten about this by the time Can’t Rush Greatness rolls around. But they certainly won’t forget the album itself if it’s heat, and we’re excited to hear what’s in store.

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre Unveil “Missionary” Tracklist With Star-Studded Support

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are making their studio album return with Missionary, their new collab project dropping on December 13. Now, we have the condom-themed cover art and tracklist for the record, indicating its playful vibe and teasing the featured guests that will be on it. They are the following: BJ The Chicago Kid, Dre on the mic, Alus, Jhené Aiko, Tom Petty, Jelly Roll, K.A.A.N., Sting, Method Man, Smitty, Cocoa Sarai, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dem Jointz, Stalone, and Fat Money. As you can see, there are some expected picks, some surprises, and overall a whole lot of variety on this forthcoming LP.

Missionary comes out via the Snoop Dogg-owned Death Row Records and Dr. Dre will be responsible for the album’s production. It’s a bit of a spiritual sequel to their 1993 classic Doggystyle, and its first single – “Gorgeous” with Jhené Aiko – drops tonight at midnight (Thursday, October 31). In fact, this is all part of a pretty prolific run for Tha Doggfather these days, as he recently featured on EARTHGANG’s latest offering, Perfect Fantasy. There are a lot of reasons to be excited about his output right now.

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre’s Missionary: Features & Artwork

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre recently spoke on the creative process on Stephen A. Smith’s show. “Be original,” Snoop remarked. “Right now there’s so much copycatting, mimicking, sounding alike, and imitation. Find your production, your sound, find your ear for who you are, and be original even if it ain’t hitting. Stay you.” “Find your collaborators,” Dre added. “I don’t like the fact that there are nine different producers on one album. I like the idea of one producer on an album. Continuity is everything.”

Furthermore, this discussion of chemistry and continuity made a lot of fans even more excited for Missionary, even if they might disagree with Dr. Dre’s take. Regardless, we can’t wait to hear what Snoop Dogg and company have in store on December 13. In addition, plenty of other recent reflections and statements reminded us of why this moment could be so exciting. Kendrick Lamar recently revealed that they were at fault for his first public display of tears, and their magnanimous place in hip-hop will be a treat to witness.

Westside Gunn Sets The Stage For New Album With Stellar “11” EP

Westside Gunn is on a creative roll. The rapper has been hyping up the release of his upcoming album Still Praying for months. The album is set to drop on November 1, and will boast features from his usual Griselda crew. Here’s the thing, though: Westside Gunn wasn’t content with just giving fans an album. A day before Still Praying is set to drop, the rapper dropped off an EP. 11 is a tight five song collection, but the quality of the bars and the production ensure that this is not merely leftover album cuts.

11 starts off on a high with “STONE.” The production is menacing and slow, a perfect tonal balance to strike given that the EP dropped on Halloween. It’s the second song, though, that really makes this a top notch Westside Gunn release. “BIG DUMP BALLAD” spins an absolutely mesmerizing soul sample while the Giselda superstar waxes poetic about his life and his troubled past. The bars are strong, and the ad-libs are present as ever. “UNCLE HOWDY” is a glorified interlude, but the songs “CAIN TEJADA” and “PAULIN PAULIN PAULIN” close out 11 on a staggering high. “PAULIN PAULIN PAULIN” is especially strong, with its drum-less beat and reliance on Westside Gunn’s impassioned delivery.

Tyler, The Creator Reveals His Favorite “Chromakopia” Moments

Tyler, The Creator unveiled his new album Chromakopia earlier this week, and already he’s been met with heaps of praise. Most listeners have been thoroughly impressed, with many even arguing that it’s some of his best work yet. Recently, Tyler himself took to X to reflect on the project, and to reveal some of his own favorite moments on it.

“At 1:54 of ST CHROMA, that siren and low end together feels like a blast wave after an explosion,” his post begins in part. “The ’20 thousand on me…’ part of RAH TAH TAH, the delivery is from a d*mb joke of mine but i couldnt get it outta my head, why not record it.”

Tyler, The Creator Shares Lengthy Post About Chromakopia

“Second post hook section of NOID. willows harmonies and thundercat bass feels ethereal,” his post continued. “The bridge of DARLING I is just…” Tyler went on, listing several additional favorite moments including “the chord on the 5th bar of HEY JANE,” that bridge on “I KILLED YOU,” “last verse of THOUGHT I WAS DEAD,” and more. Obviously, Tyler has a lot of highlights, and he’s not the only one. According to DJ Akademiks, the project is on pace to move 250K album-equivalent units in its first week despite missing three days of tracking due to its odd release date. Reportedly, it could even debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

While the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, there are some fans who took issue with his rumored J Cole diss on “I Hope You Find Your Way Home.” He appeared to reference Cole bowing out of the Kendrick Lamar beef after dropping “7 Minute Drill,” which many thought was old news. What do you think of Tyler, The Creator revealing his favorite moments of his new album, Chromakopia? Do you agree with him or not? What’s your favorite moment from the project?
