MF DOOM Collaborator Egon Blasts Lawsuit Claiming He Stole Rapper’s Notebooks

MF DOOM’s legacy and its proper preservation hangs in the balance in a legal battle between his widow, Jasmine Dumile Thompson, and his former collaborator and label executive, Eothen “Egon” Alapatt. Moreover, the latter claims that the former’s lawsuit against him for allegedly stealing DOOM’s notebooks from a Los Angeles studio is “baseless and libelous.” Egon’s attorney Kenneth Freundlich expressed in a court filing on Tuesday (November 14) that this year-long narrative falsely represents his client’s character and misunderstands the situation. For those unaware, Thompson claimed that Egon unrightfully bought 31 “rhyme books” of original material, ideas, “musings, and other creative ideations” from the aforementioned studio’s landlord.

This was when DOOM was out of the United States, as he left for his birthplace of London in 2010 for a show and was not allowed reentry into the U.S. based on immigration issues. Furthermore, Thompson and her legal team allege that Egon never consulted with MF DOOM about this purchase. When he asked for them back, she claims, the former Stones Throw manager “delayed, obfuscated and deflected” while refusing to return them. Not only that, but the New York MC’s widow claims that Egon actively went against his wishes that they remain “secret and confidential.” Instead, he wants them to go to into a public archive.

MF DOOM Performing In London In 2013

On the other hand, in Tuesday’s legal response, Egon and his team admitted to assuming ownership of MF DOOM’s notebooks, but denied that he was their legal owner when they came into Egon’s possession, which is why he bought them from the L.A. studio’s landlord, which also had a lot of unpaid rent. If not for this, they allege, then this entity would’ve put the pads up for purchase or destroyed them altogether. In addition, they claimed that Egon reached out to DOOM to get these back to him, but that he never followed up and “seemed to have completely forgotten his prior discussion” with the executive. One thing that this response confirmed is that Egon will only return the notebooks if a digital version of them goes to an archive, of which his attorneys suggested “the Cornell Hip-Hop Archive, the Smithsonian, or another accredited archive of their choosing.”

Meanwhile, Freundlich claims this initiative would preserve and champion “precious artifacts of hip-hop history.” “Scholars and researchers [can] study DOOM’s creativity and further entrench his creative genius– not just in hip-hop, but in [United States] history. Rather than accept [Egon]’s generous offer, plaintiffs chose to continue their hurtful, and defamatory attacks against [him] by filing this frivolous complaint.” For more news and the latest updates on MF DOOM, stay logged into HNHH.

In the interview, he discusses playing instruments, in particular flute, on a variety of other artists’ work. “I’ve actually played some wind things that I’ve put out in the world that I called myself another name under different artists that are out there that, you know, I was just kinda testing it out in a way. From known artists, and they’ve been cool about keeping it secret.” The revelation of his other alias had fans digging through old material looking for where he might pop up. According to HipHopDX, Andre contributed instrumentation to James Blake’s 2019 song “Where’s The Catch?” which he also features on. Check out the full interview below.

Suge Knight Claims He Took The Fall For Dr. Dre’s Gun Charge

For fans of 90s hip-hop, Collect Call With Suge Knight has been a revelation. The podcast is only two episodes into its run but there’s already been numerous major reveals. Much of it has had to do with Tupac, which makes sense with his alleged murderer’s trial currently occupying headlines this year. One of the first attention grabbing stories Suge told related to Tupac and Warren G. After Warren claimed he played a role in getting Pac out of prison, Suge refuted the story and claimed that the two never even liked each other in the first place.

In the recently released second episode, Suge once again spoke on the process of getting Pac out of prison. This time he revealed the identity of a mystery woman who called him every single day to advocate for Tupac. Her name is Keisha, and she played a crucial role in setting the events of Tupac’s career in motion. If it weren’t for Keisha, you guys wouldn’t have heard All Eyez On Me or all the other hits he did,” Suge says during the podcast. But his newest revelation is about another artist. Check out the newest episode of Collect Call below.

Suge Knight On Taking A Gun Charge For Dr. Dre

In the new episode, Suge discusses taking the fall for Dr. Dre. “I stopped Dre from getting a lot of time for beating up a gang of b*tches and all the shit he was doing that made me… you know,” he begins. “I gave him the business manager number. The guy calls the business manager. The business manager wires the money for Dre’s guns to a guy who will give him the guns. A year or two later, on my birthday, they arrested me. The feds.”

Ultimately while Suge had the option to let Dre face his own consequences, he ended up taking the fall. “I gave him the business manager number. The guy calls the business manager. The business manager wires the money for Dre’s guns to a guy who will give him the guns. A year or two later, on my birthday, they arrested me. The feds.” What do you think of Suge Knight taking the heat for Dr. Dre on a gun charge so he could keep making music? Let us know in the comment section below.

Chrisean Rock Claims She Bought An Island, Reveals Its Name

Chrisean Rock is someone who always knows how to make headlines. It doesn’t matter what is happening in the world, Chrisean will somehow become the center of attention. Overall, she has been in the news a lot lately thanks to the Tamar Braxton situation. Although she claimed to go on a social media break after the incident, it seems as though she lied. Instead, she is back to her old ways and is speaking out on her Instagram. This has led to some interesting revelations that have to be discussed.

One such revelation came last night, and it is definitely a doozy. As of late, Chrisean has been under scrutiny after saying she bought a house in cash. Some people are claiming that she lied and that in reality, she is only renting the place. However, there are a lot of people out there who do, indeed, believe her. Regardless, it seems like houses aren’t the only thing Chrisean is buying. In the video below, she claims that she has actually purchased herself an island.

Chrisean Rock Reveals Her Latest Purchase

There are very scarce details on this purchase and how much it actually cost her. However, it must have been a lot of money if it is a decent-sized area. As for the name of the island, Chrisean is calling it “Chrisean Chrisean Chrisean.” Overall, this is a pretty appropriate name, albeit one that lacks a lot of creativity. Whether or not she will ever show us this supposed island, remains to be seen. No matter what, there are going to be questions as to the authenticity of this claim.

Who Is Featured On Drake’s ‘Scary Hours 3’?

Drake has used his features as a compass lately. His and 21 Savage’s joint (and newly Grammy-nominated) album, Her Loss, resulted in their supporting It’s All A Blur Tour. Cut to October’s For All The Dogs, and Drake’s “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole not only became Drake’s record-tying 13th-career No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — and J. Cole’s first — but also spawned the title for Drake and Cole’s 2024 joint tour, It’s All A Blur Tour — Big As The What?

Put more simply, it’s only natural to wonder who will be featured on Scary Hours 3 immediately upon Drake confirming its impending arrival is tomorrow, November 17.

Who Is Featured On Drake’s Scary Hours 3?

As of this writing on Thursday morning, November 16, Drake has not revealed features nor a tracklist whatsoever. We could lean on the his past Scary Hours projects to make a hypothesis, but that doesn’t help because 2018’s Scary Hours had no features, while 2021’s Scary Hours 2 featured Lil Baby and Rick Ross. So, the third installment could go either way.

Who Produced Scary Hours 3?

According to the cinematic, orchestral-backed trailer posted to Drake’s Instagram, the credited Scary Hours 3 executive producers are Drake, OVO’s Noel Cadastre, and perennial NBA All-Star Kevin Durant, also recently revealed as a NOCTA campaign star.

Will André 3000’s ‘New Blue Sun’ Album Be On Spotify?

Earlier this week, André 3000 announced that he’d be making his return with a brand new solo album titled New Blue Sun.

His album is set to drop this Friday, November 17 at midnight. For those who might be wondering, it also will likely be available to stream on Spotify, as it is listed being one of the options on the pre-save link from Sony.

It is also available for pre-order currently, but only as a digital download.

While Outkast fans might have been hoping for a rap record, he’s made it very clear that it won’t be what they expect. “I don’t want to troll people,” André said during a recent interview with NPR Music. “I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, this André 3000 album is coming!’ And you play it and like, ‘Oh man, no verses.’ So even actually on the packaging, you’ll see it says, ‘Warning: no bars.’”

As for what the album will sound like, it has been described as “an entirely instrumental album centered around woodwinds; a celebratory piece of work in the form of a living, breathing, aural organism,” according to a statement. Basically, he won’t be giving any lyrics at all.

When Will Drake’s ‘Scary Hours 3’ Be On Apple Music?

Time means nothing to Drake. On Wednesday afternoon, November 15, Drake released his and J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter” video. Less than 24 hours later, he has announced Scary Hours 3 will release tomorrow, November 17. The project will arrive just six weeks after For All The Dogs, his latest No. 1 album and 13th in his career (per Billboard). Generally, Drake has taken a liking to giving people little-to-no warning that a project is on the way. See: March 2021’s Scary Hours 2 and June 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind.

Remember when Drake openly contemplated retirement? That was cute. We’ll get real-time insight into what’s on Drake’s mind now when Scary Hours 3 presumably hits Apple Music (and all DSPs) at 9 p.m. PST and midnight EST (November 17).

In the Instagram video confirming Scary Hours 3, Drake says, “I’ll say this to you: I feel no need to appease anybody. I feel so confident about the body of work that I just dropped that I know I could go and disappear for, whatever, six months, a year, two years — even though I’m not really, like, into [laughs] — I’m not really into the super lengthy disappearances for the sake of mystery, but…”

He continues, “You know, ultimately, it’s coming to me in a way that I haven’t experienced maybe since, like, If You’re Reading This, where it’s just kind of like, I feel like I’m on drugs. I feel like I’m in that mental state without doing anything. I did those songs in the last five days. I didn’t have one bar written down for those songs on the night that For All The Dogs dropped. It’s not like I’m picking up from some unfinished sh*t, you know, this is just — it’s happening on its own. And, you know, who am I to fight it, right? And to fight back against the right thing would be, well, you know.”

PinkyDoll Claps Back At Critics Of Her Music

PinkyDoll has responded to people criticizing her foray into music. “Y’all saying I don’t got no bars. Y’all saying I can’t rap,” Pinky said before rapping along to her song “Ice Cream So Good”. The track was created earlier this year as a promotional endeavor with FashionNova. It was widely panned for being incredibly generic and also having the additional cringe factor of being a literal advertisement.

Pinky’s response came after she recently previewed her new song “Yes Popcorn”, another reference to her NPC streams. Once again, it was widely panned for its generic beat and weak hook. In the clip Pinky previewed, all can be heard is an autotuned hook that repeats “Yes Popcorn” and “Gang Gang” over and over. “As a child I thought 2023 would have flying cars, robot maids, and teleportation. Not…whatever the f-ck the sh-t is,” one person derided the track on social media.

People Raise More “Light Skin Fishing” Allegations Against PinkyDoll

However, another criticism being leveled at the TikTok star is that she has done nothing to address the “Light Skin Fishing” allegations made against earlier this year. “She still using that light filter proudly 😂, one person noted on social media while reacting to Pinky’s response video. It was an appearance at the Streamys in August that initially started the controversy. Fans were quick to point out that Pinky was much darker IRL than she appeared in her content. This led people to speculate that the content creator was utilizing lighting and makeup to lighten her skin to garner more attention online. While Sinon is a Black woman, there have long been arguments that lighter-skinned Black women find more success compared to their darker-skinned counterparts.

Pinky later addressed these claims in a conversation with TMZ. “Well you know, when I go into the sun, I get a little darker. But I love to be a Black woman, what can you do?” she began. “I think they are just hating.” The interviewer quickly moved on to a different topic without challenging Pinky’s answer. However, nearly six months later, it’s clear that Pinky intends to do nothing about the hotly-debated criticism being leveled against her.
