Following two high school seniors, Seth and Evan, they set out on a mission to find liquor for a party and ultimately lose their virginity. Some of Denzel Washington’s best work is when he depicts a real person. In The Great Debaters, he takes on the persona of debate coach Melvin B. Tolson of Wiley Coach. Not only does Washington star in it, but he also directed the 2007 film. This is one of his more important roles as the movie circulates around an all-Black college that defeats Harvard University in an academic debate. The plot is based on a true story, in which Denzel delivers a performance that shines a light on an essential fact in Black History and American History.

8. Inside Man (2006)

Some may want to see the bad guys get away, and some don’t. In Inside Man, Washington was up against a criminal mastermind he was no match for. It’s safe to say that Washington is comfortable portraying a police officer. However, this time, he isn’t dirty. Also, he once again works with director Spike Lee. This is their fourth movie together as they have collaborated on Mo’ Better Blues, Malcolm X, and He Got Game. This might be their best one yet.

7. Philadelphia (1993)

Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks joined forces early in their career. Long before they became the men they are today, the two starred in Philadelphia. Hanks plays a gay man suing his employer for firing him because he has AIDS. Washington portrays his lawyer, who was initially unwilling to take the case. This is one of the first big-screen Hollywood films to shed light on many certain shunned issues. Philadelphia touched on LGBTQ issues, HIV/AIDS epidemic, and discrimination.

6. Training Day (2001)

Training Day might be Denzel’s most popular role. Everyone remembers Alonzo screaming, “King Kong ain’t got s*** on me!” Time and time again, Washington proves that there isn’t a role he can’t conquer. Playing a dirty cop, you hated him and were relieved when he was murdered. Washington made you feel a way with this role, as many people will always discuss Training Day when discussing the actor’s career. The two main actors in the film, Washington and Ethan Hawke, won Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

5. American Gangster (2007)

There is not a role that Denzel Washington can’t play. Whether he’s a fighter, pilot, coach, or cop, Washington makes it look effortless. He does it again in American Gangster as he plays notorious Harlem crime boss Frank Lucas. In another biopic for Washington, he embodies Lucas. It’s almost as if the characters and the setting aren’t new to him. After all, he is from New York, so he may be familiar with tales of Lucas’s street life moves. 

4. Glory (1989)

In 1989, Denzel received his first Oscar for his role in Glory. He won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Private Silas Trip. In Glory, the film focuses on Black men’s contributions to the Civil War. It was one of the first big-screen Hollywood movies to shed light on Black soldiers then. This was just the beginning for Washington.

3. Malcolm X (1992)

The way Denzel portrays real people is unmatched. In Malcolm X, he acts and narrates the story of the late-great activist. From the slick back hair to the speech, Washington makes for the splitting image of Malcolm. With Denzel portraying one of the most influential figures in history, he may have had similar views to Malcolm. The film earned Washington an Oscar nomination.

2. Fences (2016)

Decades later and he still knows how to give life to a character. In 2016, Denzel shone as Troy in Fences, with Viola Davis playing Rose, his wife. The film received several nominations and took home a few awards. In fact, Washington himself won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play.  Fences was originally a play that first opened in 1985. It was revived in 2010 on Broadway. Washington and Davis starred in the play as well. Washington also won Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture for the film.

1. Remember the Titans (2000)

Denzel Washington simply excelled as Coach Herman Boone in Remember the Titans. Based on a true story, Washington embodies Coach Boone’s hard-nosed leadership attributes. It’s easy to get sucked into this film as you might even believe Washington really coaches high school football or has before. Remember the Titans is easily one of the best sports films ever.  A movie about a team coming together during the time of segregation is powerful to see. Washington leads the way with an all-time performance.

Kanye West’s Netflix Doc Sparks Lawsuit Over Unearthed Footage

Fans got an intimate look into Kanye West’s come-up last year when Netflix released Jeen-Yuhs. From directors Chike & Coodie, the documentary explored Ye’s early days as a producer trying to get a deal as a rapper. The wide-ranging doc also provided a BTS glimpse into his 2020 presidential campaign. However, the documentary has now led to a new lawsuit against Netflix and the directors. Per TMZ, a Chicago woman is suing the streaming giant and Chike & Coodie after they used footage of her dancing in an “altered state” for the documentary.

The woman behind the suit, Cynthia Love, appeared in the music video for Kanye’s “Through The Wire.” In the court documents, Love claims Chike & Coodie exploited her when they used an extended clip of her in the documentary. She’s spotted at the beginning of Ye’s video dancing inside a restaurant. Love alleges that she received $20 for her cameo. She added that she “​​altered state and not capable of providing consent” to being filmed. Furthermore, she’s upset that extended footage of her appearance made its way into the documentary. 

Cynthia Love Vs. Netflix

Cynthia Love explained that the footage of her dancing inside the restaurant with Ye is a representation of the past – something she’s moved from. Love explained that she’s remained sober for 18 years and turned her life around completely. She said that she’s had long-term jobs and repaired relationships that were harmed. On top of that, she said that the documentary has revealed her past to those who weren’t aware of that part of her life, and watching those moments have forced her to re-live those days that she has since put behind her. 

In her suit, Love also suggested that Coodie reached out after Netflix released the doc. She said that he texted her son, claiming that he assumed she died. As you could imagine, that extra bit of effort may have helped Netflix and Coodie & Chike dodge this lawsuit. Love claims she suffered emotional distress from the footage, which also took a hit to her reputation. She’s currently seeking Netflix and Coodie & Chike for a minimum of $30,000. Jonathan Majors Dropped By Manager After Domestic Violence Allegations

Jonathan Majors is still struggling to overcome his domestic violence allegations. The recent arrest of the Avengers actor sent shockwaves through the world of pop culture. Law enforcement confirmed that his alleged victim was his girlfriend. According to reports, the couple was in a taxi when an argument broke out between them. TMZ alleges that Majors’ girlfriend saw another woman texting his phone, which led to an altercation. Furthermore, the reports suggest that Majors became physically aggressive when his girlfriend attempted to view the alleged text messages on his device.

The Creed III actor allegedly slapped his girlfriend when she attempted to check his messages, and then placed his hands around her neck. Furthermore, it was reported that law enforcement was called to the Chelsea area in Manhattan on Saturday morning, March 25, in response to this incident. Subsequently, Majors’ girlfriend was taken to a nearby hospital by authorities due to visible injuries on her face and body. Majors’ lawyers shared alleged messages from the woman that would clear the actor’s name if they’re legitimate. However, that doesn’t seem to be stopping people from dropping him left and right.

Majors’ Major Losses

The latest loss that Majors is suffering is that of his management. The actor and Entertainment 360 supposedly “mutually agreed” to part ways, which is another way of saying that he was dropped. Additionally, Majors has also lost his PR firm. According to Deadline, he has already shot season 2 of Loki. So, he will likely still be appearing in that. There have also apparently been zero talks at Marvel about removing Jonathan Majors from his role as Kang. That is a very small silver lining for Majors, as it is likely that his career hangs in the balance, regardless.

In the alleged text messages released by Majors’ lawyer, the actor’s girlfriend tells him that she told police not to charge him. “Please let me know you’re okay when you get this. They assured me that you won’t be charged,” she said in the text. “They said they had to arrest you as protocol when they saw the injuries on me and they knew we had a fight. Jeremy Renner: Body Cam Shows Paramedics Saving Him

The news of Jeremy Renner’s snowplow accident on New Year’s Day and the severe injuries he sustained shocked fans and industry members alike. Renner has since begun to make what some describe as a miraculous recovery. However, the event itself was quite harrowing for the actor. He has been undergoing a process of recuperation and has recently begun disclosing details, including the revelation on social media that he had sustained fractures in 30 bones. Furthermore, the 911 call pertaining to the accident has been released to the public.

“If I had been there on my own, that would have been a horrible way to die”, Renner said in an interview. “But I wasn’t alone. I was with my nephew, Sweet Alex, and then the rest of the calvary arrived.” The actor had been trying to save his nephew when he was run over by the snowplow, causing the extensive injuries that almost took his life. Now, new video has emerged of the aftermath of the incident.

Renner Is Lucky To Be Alive

Fair warning, some may consider the video above graphic. The footage of Jeremy Renner’s accident comes from the body cams of police on the scene. It was obtained by TMZ. While it does not show much, there are point of the video where Renner can be seen on the ground surrounded by paramedics. Any graphic details and faces are blocked out. Then, once Renner has been loaded into an ambulance, the police officer surveys the scene. In this moment, a pool of blood can be seen where the actor was laying. It is a terrifying scene, and Renner is absolutely lucky to be alive.

Renner recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he recounted the incident in gory detail. “It’s like a giant metal-like cookie roller, right? And it just missed every vertebra, did not hit any organs, membrane did not swell,” the actor said. “My eye did pop out, that’s weird. But I got pretty lucky that none of the organs got messed up.” However, Renner said that his only thought was about whether or not his nephew was traumatized. However, in the latest guest list upset, Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette, is now officially on the guest list. “She got the invitation,” the My Pet Agency owner said to Page Six. “It’s an event in honor of the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld. Choupette is obviously a central part of the legacy.” Choupette, a blue-cream tortie Birman, is rumored to be one of the late Lagerfeld’s heirs. The designer, who died at 85 in 2019, left an estimated $125 million fortune.

Additionally, Choupette is included in the May 2023 Vogue cover story in honor of the late designer. In a preview of the issue shared with Good Morning America, Naomi Campbell holds the fabulous feline on a Parisian bridge. Campbell is wearing a black Balmain trouser suit, white shirt, and Lagerfeld’s signature black tie. Page Six added, “The cat model looks extra fluffy in the photo as she looks straight at the camera, curling up her feet as she relaxes in the supermodel’s arms.”

Kanye West BBC Documentary Promises “Revelations” About Recent Events

The upcoming BBC documentary on Kanye West, We Need To Talk About Kanye, will reportedly do more than just sum up the artist’s recent controversies and public image. Moreover, the film’s producer Jeremy Lee recently spoke to Variety and detailed what it will consist of. While we already knew it would chronicle Ye’s antisemitic tirades and 2024 presidential election, it will apparently divulge much more information. Of course, it’s likely that it will take more steps to provide the truth rather than add context to fluff up or justify his actions. However, given what little we know of the project so far, anything could happen.

“Underpinned with world-class journalism and unique access to members of Ye’s inner circle, this is a revelation-driven film which sheds new light on recent events,” Lee stated. Also, he confirmed that Kanye West knows of the documentary, but will not be involved in any way. “Ye’s recent behavior has prompted both condemnation and a re-evaluation of his place in popular culture. With recent events as a starting point, the documentary and accompanying eight-part podcast series [The Kanye Story] explore Ye’s two decades in the public eye amid a rumored YE2024 election campaign.” Said election campaign has reportedly ended.

Furthermore, Variety also reported that BBC sold the doc to various countries after ordering it in February. Networks in Finland, Belgium, Australia, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark already secured rights to the project. Moreover, investigative journalist Mobeen Azhar took the helm in the movie, who also explored Britney Spears’ conservatorship in the film The Battle For Britney. In addition, The Kanye Story will further explore Kanye West’s career with help from top music industry executives. As such, this documentary reportedly aims to shed more light and context into what Ye’s recent questionable behavior means for the past, present, and future of his career.

Meanwhile, this film’s focus on Kanye West’s 2024 presidential campaign recently took a turn. “Right now, I am living my life,” he allegedly told a documentary producer he hired, according to a Daily Beast report. “Like I’m concentrating on the school, The Donda Academy, and my new wife, and my kids, and that’s it. Disney Gets Backlash For “Lilo & Stitch” Casting

Disney’s run of live-action adaptations for their animated classics has been mixed. 2017’s Beauty and the Beast? Totally forgettable. 2019’s Dumbo? I bet you forgot this movie happened. 2019’s The Lion King? Memed to hell and back because CGI animals can’t show emotion. 2020’s Mulan? Meh. 2021’s Cruella? Did surprisingly well.

But that hasn’t stopped Disney from making these films because they are the company with more money than God. The Little Mermaid, led by Halle Bailey, premieres later this year. Also reportedly in the works is The Princess And The Frog. But one project that may have slipped under the radar is a live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, the charming movie about the Hawaiian girl who adopts an alien. That was until Disney announced who would be playing one of the main characters.

Disney Casts Light-Skinned Actress For Famously Non-White Role

Nani is a pivotal character in Lilo & Stitch. She is Lilio’s older sister, who is trying her best to care for their family after the death of their parents. The original film perfectly balances showing Nani as overbearing from Lilo’s perspective while also highlighting the sad reality of this twenty-something thrust into the role of both sister and mother. Nani does her best and eventually comes to finally realize her sister’s uniqueness and a better way to interact with her.

In an announcement made April 13, it was announced that Hawaiian-born actress Sydney Agudong had been cast Nani. There was just a small problem – Nani (and Lilo) are indigenous Hawaiians. They are some of the few prominent non-white characters in Disney’s animated films of that era. Adudong is very light-skinned, as countless side-by-side comparisons have shown. Safe to say that fans were less than impressed. There was widespread criticism of Disney “white-washing” the role, which uniquely represents contemporary Hawaii. Hawaii’s indigenous population have long asked for white tourists and families to not visit or move to the islands. This is due to the increasing displacement of the indigenous population to make room for tourism and housing for white relocators. The replacement of an indigenous character with a white-passing actress is in its own way a reflection of Hawaii’s problems.

Dracula Is A True Monster In “The Last Voyage Of The Demeter”

The past few years have been full of variations on Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula. The iconic vampire has been sent to us via email, become an evil mastermind on Netflix, and even become an anime anti-hero. Most recently, Dracula is a campy Nic Cage in the horror-comedy Renfield.

But we are now about to see not a man, but a beast. This adaptation comes from Universal, who released the first trailer for The Last Voyage Of The Demeter. The film is inspired by a single chapter of the original novel, as Dracula’s coffin travels from Romania to London. André Øvredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark) handles directorial duties in this seaborne horror.

“The Last Voyage Of The Demeter” Brings True Horror To Dracula

The Last Voyage Of The Demeter follows The Demeter, a trading ship carrying private cargo between Romania and London. Under the watchful eye of The Captain (Game Of Thrones‘ Liam Cunningham), the ship sets sail with one final addition, British-educated doctor Clemens (Corey Hawkins of The Walking Dead). However, as night falls, a creature unfurls itself from a casket and begins to stalk the crew. Those who survive the initial assault must find a way to kill the creature before the ship reaches London. Also among the cast are Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale, The Fall, Game Of Thrones), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad), and Javier Botet (REC, Mama, Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark) as Dracula.

Unlike other adaptations, The Last Voyage Of The Demeter has no interest in showing us a human-like Dracula. Instead, the film focuses on a purely bestial and monstrous creature who has nothing but a hunger to be sated. It is set to be a bloody, and visceral, fight for survival. Furthermore, as the trailer implies, this version of Dracula has the ability to “infect” individuals. That unnerving ability adds a tantalizing splash of paranoia to the film’s tone. Expect no mercy in this brutal, bloody, and tense take on the classic vampire. The Last Voyage Of The Demeter sails into theaters on August 11.
