Knicks News: What Does The Mo Bamba Signing Mean For Joel Embiid?

The Sixers signed Mo Bamba on Wednesday, adding the former sixth-overall pick to their rotation. Bamba was traded midway through the 2022-23 season, leaving Orlando for the Lakers. However, he played just nine games for LA and was officially waived in late June. Bamba has never really lived up to his sixth-overall selection, especially considering the other players taken in that 2018 draft. In fact, Orlando eventually replaced Bamba with the guy taken one pick after him, Wendall Carter Jr.

However, he will provide some depth behind MVP Joel Embiid at the center position, especially if the Sixers let current backup center Paul Reed go in free agency. But an interesting thread that can be pulled with the Bamba signing is where this leaves recent rumors connecting the New York Knicks to Sixers starter Joel Embiid.

Could The Knicks Make A Play For Embiid?

It’s no secret that the Knicks want Embiid. They have reportedly been eyeing the MVP center for some time and are reportedly serious about potentially trying to swing a massive trade for him. While the Sixers have been fairly adamant that there’s no way Embiid will be leaving the team, the Knicks remain hopeful. Now, the Sixers have gone and signed a serviceable player at Embiid’s position. Naturally, the intention is for Bamba to play behind Embiid. But could he play instead of him?

Furthermore, the Sixers are in a state of flux. They are currently trying to work out a trade for James Harden, who has made it clear he wants out of Philly. Meanwhile, the Knicks are in the perfect place to make a ridiculously lucrative trade for Embiid. They have nine first-round picks between now and 2030. They could also have two more first-rounders, depending on how badly the Wizards and Pistons play for the next couple of years. Additionally, they have a stable of young talent that the Sixers could immediately utilize. So while the trade is unlikely, it’s possible at the very least. And now the Sixers have stacked up at the position affected most by it.

Lakers Swap Patrick Beverley For Mo Bamba

Patrick Beverley has consistently been one of the more interesting characters on the Los Angeles Lakers. Overall, he is a player who prides himself on his defense. However, he hasn’t been the defensive player that the Los Angeles Lakers were hoping for this year. With that being said, it has been reported that the Los Angeles Lakers were looking for opportunities to potentially trade him. After all, it is the trade deadline, which means every single team in the league is looking for ways to improve its roster. As a role player, there is always a risk of being traded, and Pat Bev was feeling that.

Another name that had been popping up around the league is none other than Mo Bamba of the Orlando Magic. Bamba hasn’t been getting a ton of playtime with the team and they’ve been trying to find some potential trade suitors. Overall, that task has proven to be quite difficult. Regardless, the Magic remained active at the deadline as they looked to sell off some of their assets heading into the off-season. Today, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic hit a collision course and made a big move.

Lakers Acquire Bamba

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Patrick Beverley has been sent from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Orlando Magic. Subsequently, Mo Bamba will now be going to the Lakers. This is yet another huge move for the Lakers as just last night they traded Russell Westbrook to the Utah jazz. In return for Westbrook, they were able to pick up Malik Beasley as well as D’Angelo Russell and Jarred Vanderbilt. Now the purple and gold will be looking to finish up their season strongly with a whole cast of new players, including Rui Hachimura and now, Mo Bamba.

While this next stretch of basketball will prove to be difficult for the Lakers. Their new lineup promises to be a lot better than its last. Overall, the team is trying to be a lot better now as LeBron James wants to make the playoffs. If for some reason they don’t make the postseason, yet again, then there is a very real risk that LeBron just opts out and looks for a trade in the off-season. Mo Bamba & Austin Rivers Fight On And Off The Court

Last night’s NBA game between the home-team Minnesota Timberwolves and the Orlando Magic got pretty rough and rowdy. Officials ejected Mo Bamba and Austin Rivers, along with three other players, after a brawl broke out in the third quarter on Friday (February 3). While other players such as the Magic’s Jalen Suggs also contributed, Bamba and Rivers spurred most of the altercation. Moreover, Rivers ran up the court towards the Magic bench, where Bamba confronted him. As things escalated quickly, they threw punches and eventually a whole host of people were going at it. In fact, the two star players kept fighting off the court.

“Orlando 90 Timberwolves 75,” one fan tweeted. “Wretched night for Wolves & we had a fight. After ejections, Mo Bamba came charging down hallway at Austin Rivers. Bamba got to home locker room door & security was pushing back Rivers. The foul-mouthed insults hurled were loud & impressive.” Still, press asked both players about the incident afterwards. On his part, Bamba declined comment, while Rivers claimed he acted in self-defense. However, things got even more heated on Instagram, where both players gave accounts of what happened. For example, Bamba implied that Rivers had it coming with a meme on his Instagram story.

Meanwhile, Rivers’ response was much more pointed at the Sheck Wes song’s namesake. “Buddy I went at you 1 on 5 !!!” he wrote on his IG story. “U needed ur team mates other wise u would of been chocked out. Talking about find out. We only know u from an old rap song…not hoops. STFU. And Orlando my city. Ask around an actually find out. They don’t mess with u there….Facts!” He ended his message with a couple of shushing emojis.

However, there’s a bit of bad news for anyone who wanted to see this develop in a later game. Friday’s game was the last matchup between the Timberwolves and the Magic in the 2022-23 NBA season. While these players won’t be able to resolve their differences on the court, let’s hope they don’t resolve them with a fight again. Let us know what you think of Mo Bamba and Austin Rivers’ fight transcending the court in the comments below. Also, as always, stay up to date on HNHH with the latest NBA news and highlights.
