Victoria Monet & Lucky Daye Make Magic On Her Debut “JAGUAR II” Album: Stream

As many of our favourite male MCs have made note of lately, the women of hip-hop and R&B have been holding it down in 2023. Things have definitely heated up for the men in the latter half of the year, but the fairer sex has consistently been dropping hits and conquering the charts in both genres. This weekend, it’s Victoria Monet’s debut JAGUAR II album that’s taking the spotlight, with features from Lucky Daye and Buju Banton previously arriving as singles.

The former opens the 11-track project with “Smoke,” while the latter appears on “Party Girls.” Besides those two titles, “On My Mama” has also been all over social media this summer, especially now that Monet has graced us with an accompanying visual. Elsewhere on JAGUAR II, the songbird connected with Earth, Wild & Fire as well as her 2-year-old daughter, Hazel, on “Hollywood” before closing the LP out with “Good Bye.”

Victoria Monet’s Debut Album Will Take You to “Hollywood”

During an interview with Teen Vogue, the mother of one spoke candidly about her creative process as an artist. “I definitely, internally, always am in competition with no one but myself,” Monet explained. “I guess it’s healthy to want to be better and progress, but I try to keep it out of my mind when I’m actually in the studio because your brain gets busy, so I try to stay in that moment. But now that the project’s done, I can sit back and be like, ‘Yes, I think it’s better than Jaguar.’”

Burna Boy Saves The Summer With “I Told Them” Ft. J. Cole, 21 Savage, RZA & More

Nigerian sensation Burna Boy has once again taken the music scene by storm with the release of his highly anticipated album, I Told Them. This 15-track masterpiece is a blend of Afrobeat rhythms, R&B melodies, and hip-hop influences, showcasing Burna Boy’s signature style that has continued to shake up the world. In the past few weeks, Burna Boy’s built up the anticipation with a handful of singles. He held down the summer with the release of “Talibans II” alongside Byron Messia and shared the 21 Savage-assisted banger, “Sittin On Top Of The World.”

I Told Them finds Burna Boy diving deeper into hip-hop influences more so than in the past. In addition to 21 Savage, he enlisted J. Cole who appears on “Thanks,” which is apparently one of two collaborations they have together. Additionally, he called on British rap titan Dave, who he previously collaborated with on “Location,” for their new collab, “Cheat On Me.” However, it doesn’t stop there. The Wu-Tang Clan’s presence is felt across the project as both RZA and GZA appear on the project on “12 Jewels” and the title track, respectively.

Burna Boy’s Reign Continues

In the past few years, Burna Boy’s helped usher African sounds into the United States. His consistency transformed him into a trailblazer in the music industry, one that has undoubtedly played a role in major labels’ newfound interest in Afrobeats. Since the release of projects like African Giant and Twice As Tall, Burna Boy has continued to elevate his career through his global appeal, especially with his ability to integrate different sounds into his own.

During a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Burna Boy explained the significance of the title. “This one is for the part of my own home and the people in my own home who didn’t believe or doubt it, or still doubt, or any type of thing. And not just them, it’s like everyone that ever heard me speak in the past or when I’d first started,” he explained. “You can go back to my old tweets and stuff. I basically predicted everything that’s happening now. So this is basically that. It’s fun to tell people something is true, and they doubt, and then they end up seeing it. There’s no greater feeling.” Check out the project above.

Shaq, AKA Diesel, Drops New EDM Album “Gorilla Warfare”

In addition to being one of the most beloved NBA legends ever, Shaq is also a DJ. For those who may not know, he goes by the DJ name Diesel. Overall, this is an appropriate name as it plays off the whole “Diesel” nickname he had while in the league. Although he may have started his music journey as a rapper, he has done a nice job transitioning over to the EDM world. His sets are chaotic and fans always seek them out. If you see Diesel at an EDM festival, you know it is going to be a very fun time.

That said, the artist has been working on his craft quite a bit as of late. He has been showing off new songs at shows and has even released a couple of singles. Recently, however, Shaq decided to drop a brand-new album for all of his devoted fans out there. As you can see, the new project is called “Gorilla Warfare” and it contains 10 tracks. Although it may be a quick listen, there is definitely a lot to unpack here.

Shaq Is Back As Diesel

This style of EDM will probably get compared to Dubstep. There is a lot going on in these tracks, although this is made for those festival crowds. If you like a lot of texture and computer sounds, then this will be for you. However, if you are more into hip-hop and want to hear the man rap, you are likely to be disappointed. That said, this is a solid listen for those who are just genuinely curious.

Let us know what you think of this Diesel project, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will be sure to keep you informed of all of the biggest releases from the biggest artists in the world.

Giggs Has “Zero Tolerance” On His New Album

UK rap legend Giggs is back for his eighth studio album, Zero Tolerance. This comes off the heels of his last release almost three years ago being Now Or Never. The man has been making classics over the course of his whole career and rappers from the states are always trying to work alongside the SN1 (Spare No One) rap crew leader. Some of the biggest names in the rap genre have been blessed to hop on a track with Giggs.

For example, Drake famously nabbed two features from him on his 2017 playlist, More Life. “KMT” and “No Long Talk” were some of the heavy-hitting bangers on that tracklist even to this day. Drake did his best to respect the UK rap culture by changing the inflection in his voice to sound like a Brit, and it was met with some backlash and some love. Unfortunately, no collaborations between them made it onto this tracklist, but there is some heat here for sure.

Giggs Brings Out The Big Guns

Giggs’ 18-track album has plenty of quality, in part to some of the features. Diddy joined him for the lead single to this project on “Mandem.” Furthermore, he grabbed 21 Savage for “By Chance” which is a great combination. Giggs also uses 21 in an indirect way as well. On the opening and title track, he also samples the same song by Azoto called “Rainfall.” That song was flipped by Metro Boomin and 21 on their song “Umbrella” from HEROES & VILLAINS.

What are your thoughts on this new album, Zero Tolerance, from Giggs? Was it worth the three-year wait for you? Is Giggs a top-tier UK rapper? What is your favorite song of his or from this project? Genesis Owusu Takes You On A Trip With “STRUGGLER”

Experimental and alternative hip-hop artist Genesis Owusu has returned with another quirky album experience. This new project STRUGGLER details a story that maybe not one other artist would ever think to address. What is that you ask? Well, Owusu details the tale of a cockroach avoiding being squished by God and eventually, he begins to question why he is doing this. The Ghana-born and Australian-raised idiosyncratic artist is no stranger to thinking outside the box, and that is no different on STRUGGLER.

The beats and production choices are vibrant and feature lots of different drum patterns. The tracklist is 11 songs and it has a run time of 38 minutes and change. Owusu has two other projects to his name, those being Smiling with No Teeth and Missing Molars (Swnt Deluxe) which is the expanded version of No Teeth. Both were released in 2021 and it gave an immediate impression that Owusu is not your typical alternative rapper.

Where Did Owusu Get His Inspiration?

What is more interesting is the inspiration behind this new effort here. Owusu spoke with CD 92.9 FM about the journey to make this story come to life, “I feel like I kind of came to it almost as if like a like I was writing a fiction, like a short story, rather than like me documenting my life.” He continues, “So I kind of feel like it’s a world that lives on its own. I separated myself from it, and in doing that, I can make it as fantastical and as literary and otherworldly as possible.” Genius also says that he discovered this idea from absurdist literature and Franz Kafka’s, The Metamorphosis. This book also tells the tale about a cockroach and information on that is readily available.

What are your thoughts on this new album, STRUGGLER, by Genesis Owusu? Which songs are sticking with you the most? How do you feel about Owusu telling this tale of a cockroach and the inspiration he found for this project? We want to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave all of your thoughts for us in the comments section below. Sett Drops A 29-Song Double Disc Album “Life Of A SlimeCrook”

Southern trap artist Sett burst onto the rap scene just a little bit ago, but he is here with plenty of music for the masses. In fact, it is a two-disc project with 29 songs on it, a tall task for a new artist to tackle. However, with a co-sign from Atlanta legend, Gucci Mane, he was able to grab some big names for his debut album, Life of a SlimeCrook. Those include Gucci, NLE Choppa, producer Tay Keith, and Rob49, among others.

The subjects tackled on this effort are nothing too different from the typical trap topics. Violence, money, and bragging are all here, along with Sett’s commanding tone. Some songs that stuck out were the songs featuring Choppa and Gucci. “Cottonwood to South Vegas”, which talks about where Sett is from, and “Break Out Date Cake” are energetic and head-knocking bangers.

Hardrock Is “1of1” On His New Album

Obviously, there are so many artists and rappers that do not get to see the light of day for most music fans. But, a good deal of these underground gems are putting out some interesting and quality material. Today, we finally take a look at Hardrock, an eclectic rapper and singer from the South that has a fascinating skill set. He has put out a few projects since he started in 2021 and he just released his fifth called 1of1.

Hardrock definitely lives up to the title of this latest effort, attacking a wide range of atmospheric and cold productions. His voice is a blend of Future, Young Thug, and Playboi Carti, which makes for every track to be an unexpected journey. The opening cut “poet” is one that talks about where he’s come from and the way he approaches is like someone reading a poem with some gorgeous piano keys and string sections throughout backing his speech.

Jean Dawson Continues To Push Boundaries With “DESTRUCTION FOR DUMMIES, PT. 2 JEAN DAWSON AS “NIGHTMARE”

Up-and-coming alternative phenom Jean Dawson picks up right where he left off a year ago with CHAOS NOW*. The Californian is back on the scene with another refreshing set of tracks on a three-song EP called “DESTRUCTION FOR DUMMIES”, PT. 2 JEAN DAWSON AS “NIGHTMARE.” The title is almost as long as the run time of this latest effort with it being just under the nine-minute mark. “NO SCOPE,” “X-RAY,” and “VEXED” are the song titles and they all provide a unique listening experience. The instrumentals are fairly minimal and add to the tone of the project.

The mood is sad, lonely, despondent, but also very beautiful in an odd way. For example, on “X-RAY,” he uses clever wordplay to refer to him feeling invisible to other people, similar to how an X-ray is a hollow look at a human skeleton. “You think you see me? Really? / No one near me / Think you feel me? ([?] I know) Really? (All I know) / What’s the feeling? (How’s he knowin’?) Is it thrilling? (No).”

Jean Is A Budding Star

This, along with the rest of his musical catalog is an adventure that continues to evolve. Jean has not hit the mainstream, but for fans, it might be better for it. His unique approach is what makes him so intriguing and he has not even been around for too long. In an interview with Zane Lowe, he had this to say about his creative process, “I think I’m a product of indecision, and I love that.” He continues, “Trying to bridge that gap of understanding is something I’ve tried to do actively, but at the same time not having a science to it and not being afraid to fall on my face.”

What are your thoughts on the EP, “DESTRUCTION FOR DUMMIES”, PT. 2 JEAN DAWSON AS “NIGHTMARE,” from Jean Dawson? Is he one of the best experimental artists in the world right now? Who would you like him to work with in the near future? We want to hear what you have to say, so be sure to put all of your thoughts in the comments section below. Dro Kenji Comes Through With 17-Song Album “WISH YOU WERE HERE”

Dro Kenji has just released his eighth project of his early career, WISH YOU WERE HERE. His start in rap began around 2019 with his first single “Rokstarr.” Then, he began to gain some steam and got some notoriety from the record label Internet Money. The label liked what they heard from the youngster from Virginia and signed him. From there he went on to put out his first single under Internet Money with “100 Rounds.”

Now, he has eight projects under his belt in such a short span and his sound is very reminiscent of a few major voices. Two of the most recognizable are the late and great Juice WRLD and XXXTentacion. He appears to have a lot of influence on Kenji’s take on emo and trap rap, which is not bad by any means. Kenji definitely has all the tools to be another star in the space and this new album is a great listen.

Bryson Tiller Comes Through With Soundcloud Mixtape “SLUM TILLER VOL. 1”

Bryson Tiller has a reputation in the music community that comes and goes, just as much as he does. He will consistently be praised and then there will be a time when people forget about him. It is understandable though, because the Kentucky singer and rapper does not drop new material that often. However, when he does it is usually high quality and that is what we have here with this new mixtape.

Yes, you heard that right, a new project from Tiller! Pen Griffey, as he goes by in some of his songs, definitely delivers on this Soundcloud exclusive. It is a concise tracklist that is only five songs that maybe reaches the 13-minute mark. On August 18, the artist shared the news that he was going to drop a mixtape called SLUM TILLER VOL. 1 through a Twitch stream. It was a little interesting to hear that it would only be on this platform because it is not the best outlet for bigger artists to share their new stuff, but it is better that we have something from Tiller.

Bryson Is Back

The 30-year-old talent delivers on every track here. It has vibes similar to T R A P S O U L, which is what got him the co-sign from Drake. “NUMB,” “Coy,” “Big Spender,” “Stay Gold,” and “Resolution” are the track names and all of them have a unique sound which is another welcome sign. This could be the start of the return of 2015 Bryson and we are hoping for that and then some.

What are your thoughts on this surprise mixtape, SLUM TILLER VOL. 1, from Bryson Tiller? Have you had a chance to check out this project? If so what track is your favorite? Do you think Bryson is coming back with a new album soon? We want to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
