Kevin Gates Drops Nearly Featureless Record “The Ceremony”

Kevin Gates is one of the more interesting characters in the rap game. He is unapologetically unfiltered in interviews and it usually leads to hilarious moments. Some are more questionable than others, though. However, he is also someone who cares a lot about being a role model for the younger generation. While “Thinking with My D***” might not be a glowing representation of him, Gates is a huminatarian at heart.

Which was why at the end of last year he received a prestigious award from the New Orleans mayor for his efforts. He addresses some of those topics on tracks like “Protect Children” off his brand-new album The Ceremony. However, the main themes are about the celebration of his career, hence the title. Interestingly this is only Gates’ fourth studio album out of the many projects he has dropped in his career.

Listen To The Ceremony By Kevin Gates

Gates relentlessly teased this tape for months and even put together a listening party for it nearly a week ago. The rollout for the album began back in May of 2023 with “Do It Again.” After that point, Kevin would put out five more singles. That includes “Yonce Freestyle” with the only features, B.G. and an unhinged Sexyy Red. Check out the full-length above from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, The Ceremony, by Kevin Gates? What tracks are you gravitating toward the most so far and why? Who had the better feature, B.G. or Sexyy Red? Isaiah Rashad And Spotify Team Up To Bring Four Live Versions Of “Cilvia Demo” For Its 10th Anniversary

Isaiah Rashad is one of the more celebrated/underrated rappers from the last 15 years or so. The Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) signee has been dropping wavy, low-key bangers since 2014 and has worked with some of the premier talents. He does not drop too often, sadly. Rashad’s last full release came all the way back in 2021 with The House Is Burning. Only his third project, the Chattanooga native recruited heavy hitters Lil Uzi Vert, Duke Deuce, Smino, Jay Rock, and more.

While it is a big album and a solid release, his first might be his best. That would be Cilvia Demo put out in 2014. Rashad dropped the project nearly 10 years ago to the day, January 28. To commemorate this amazing achievement streaming giant Spotify collaborated with him to revive his classic. The reason they wanted to do this is because of the DSP’s new series.

According to HipHopDX, this new venture is called TEN. On top of dropping just the music, Spotify is also doing its version of NPR’s Tiny Desk in a way. They are inviting artists to perform live in front of fans and other artists. Spectators get to ask the performers questions too. Rashad gave some background on the making of Cilvia Demo and it sounds like it was a success. Above you will only find these live versions on Spotify. Additionally, you can watch the full performance with the YouTube link.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, Cilvia Demo – Spotify Ten – 10th Anniversary, by Isaiah Rashad? Do you think this is a good idea for Spotify to do this, why or why not? Bryson Tiller Builds On “SLUM TILLER” Series With “VOL. 3”

Bryson Tiller continues his nice run as of late, coming through with a handful of new tracks for your weekly rotation. If you remember, albums used to drop on Tuesdays. Now, we all know Friday is the day. But, the Louisville, Kentucky multi-hyphenate is bringing the old tradition back with “Tiller Tuesdays.” The now-31-year-old Bryson is delivering on that promise once more with SLUM TILLER VOL. 3.

This also follows up on the series of short EPs he began back in late August of 2023. The trio of volumes brings the total track count to 14 now. Before these new songs, Bryson put out the second installment about two months ago, as well as two singles “Lost Intro” and “Sex You Up” with Patoranking. Those appear to be building a separate tape named after the Tuesday-themed drops.

Listen To SLUM TILLER VOL. 3 By Bryson Tiller

VOL. 3 delivers four new cuts with Big Sean and the second appearance from Che Ecru. There is a nice mixture here in terms of the direction of each track. Bryson and Sean bring a more lyrically-focused cut. PSP sees the T R A P S O U L creator as a straight banger. “Slumdog Interlude” is more of a spacey vibe. Finally, “Night Cap” is a melodic expedition that works to perfection with a nice guitar-backed instrumental. Tiller still has plenty to deliver and it is good to see him active again.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, SLUM TILLER VOL. 3, by Bryson Tiller? Is this the best installment in the series so far, why or why not? What track from VOL. 3 is your favorite and why? Do you think Bryson will drop this project on other DSPs? Or, should he keep it on Soundcloud only? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Kyle Dion Is Fun, Serious, And Everything In Between On New EP “If My Jeans Could Talk”

Sometimes the most entertaining artists are not the most popular ones. Not to say Kyle Dion does not have a passionate fan base, though. But, he is not raking in some of numbers that the biggest artists do even though they tend to be mediocre. You would think he would be bigger than he is, especially after listening to his newest project. Kyle Dion, the Coral Springs, Florida R&B singer is back after a near three-year hiatus. He dropped his last project, Sassy, on September 17, 2021.

While this is not a LP, Dion is not short changing anyone on this EP, If My Jeans Could Talk. It features eight tracks with no features and three singles released ahead of it. Kyle spoke about his newest work and the inspiration behind it with Rated R&B. “I’m a bit more vulnerable, a bit more real, and a bit more carefree. I didn’t worry if anyone would like it, but instead focused on how it made me feel, and how I love it and how I wanted to create it for myself, for Kyle. But, I feel this is a project to give to my fans to let them know that I am back and here is an appetizer before my 3rd album.”

Listen To If My Jeans Could Talk By Kyle Dion

One of the singles is “Hang Me Out to Dry” and it is one of the more somber cuts on the tape. It sees Kyle sing about a frustrating relationship where both parties are not doing the best job of staying together. However, he feels that he is still being screwed over because there is a lack of communication. Other highlights include the intro track “Gimmie,” with its nice guitar shreds and easy-to-follow rhythm. One of his strengths are his falsetto vocals and they are all over this project. If you are wondering, they sound great. So far, this has the potential to be one of the best EPs of the year.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, If My Jeans Could Talk, by Kyle Dion? Is this the best body of work he has ever put out, why or why not? Which tracks are you gravitating toward the most and why? Does he deserve more attention in the R&B lane, or is he properly rated? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. UMI Releases New Ep “Talking To The Wind” That Reflects On A Unique Time In Her Career

It has been quite some time since HNHH has talked about Seattle, Washington-bred R&B/Soul artist UMI. A lot has happened over the past year or so for the 24-year-old singer. Vulture recently put out a feature piece the day she came through with her brand-new EP, talking to the wind. It is a four-track offering that had half of its songs released months before. Those two were “happy im” and “why dont we go.” UMI is not the most active name in the space, at least in the past couple of years.

But, as we mentioned, she has gone through quite a bit of turmoil. In her particular case, it has to do with the falling out with her now-former RCA-affiliated label, Keep Cool Records. This new ep is UMI’s first release since leaving after it was her dream in high school to join it. In her conversation with Vulture, she gave her reasoning as to why it was time.

Listen To Talking To The Wind By UMI

“I wanted to leave because I knew it wasn’t serving me anymore. I didn’t feel like there was any excitement at my label for me.” However, even though the label was ahead of UMI’s schedule and it took a chunk out of her, it was the right thing for her career. “My ego definitely was like, ‘F*** you, you’re gonna drop me?’ And then I was like, UMI, you wanted to leave and you’ve been hinting at that for a while, so why are you mad?” Furthermore, she explained the meaning of the title. “The EP was made during that unknown time. When I felt lost during that process, I spent so much time outside letting the wind just touch me and heal me. The wind kept telling me, ‘UMI, just trust.’” Hear what UMI has to say with the links above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, talking to the wind, by UMI? Is this the best body of work she has ever put out, why or why not? Which tracks are you gravitating toward the most and why? Mick Jenkins Tacks On Two New Tracks And Instrumentals To His Terrific 2023 Record “The Patience”

Mick Jenkins, an excellent wordsmith hailing from Huntsville, Alabama, is undoubtedly one of the most clever lyricists we have going in modern hip-hop. Also being raised in the south side of Chicago gave him the blue-collar grittiness that he displayed on his critically acclaimed album The Patience. Released on August 18, 2023, it featured a trim 11-song tracklist with standout features and performances. Now, it has just received a deluxe edition.

Let us just say that it somehow improves it. The new additions include “2011” and “Perm.” On top of that, Mick adds instrumentals for the original release. Furthermore, he adds some color to the cover art, which could be a nod to the waviest song about “color theory” on “Roy G. Biv.” If you listen on Apple Music and use Lossless audio, the deluxe sounds a bit louder compared to the previous edition.

Listen To The Patience (Deluxe Edition) By Mick Jenkins

However, tracks like “Pasta,” “Show & Tell” with Freddie Gibbs, “Farm to Table” featuring VIC MENSA, and more still sound great. Everything still sounds lush and the penmanship is still there on the new tracks. “2011” is another storytelling cut that sees Mick recalling where he was in his life and with his music career. “Perm” is the bigger banger of the two with great bars like these. “You seeing ballerinas if n****s is spinning the block / We stay on our toes, two hands on the clock / No bustdowns, that’s the neighborhood watch / Play Sasquatch, won’t see me in the spot.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new deluxe version of The Patience by Mick Jenkins? Is this the best body of work he has ever put out, why or why not? Out of the two deluxe tracks, which one is better? Does Mick deserve more credit as an MC, or is he properly rated? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Two standouts in the underground scene have just come together for a brand-new collaborative tape. Brooklyn, New York rapper Hus KingPin, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina producer 9th Wonder present to us The Supergoat. For Hus, this is his tenth project in less than a year. 2023 was another massively productive year for the wordsmith.

From February 7 to December 15, Hus KingPin put in his head down and hustled to get out nine tapes. Two of them were joint efforts. Bolio EPetersen saw he and M.W.P. work alongside each other. Then, SmooVth, who is also featured on this new project, joined Hus on Paid In Full. For 9th Wonder, this follows-up his gargantuan 55-song instrumental endeavor, Bladey Mae (Grandma’s Blades), which was a Christmas Day release.

Lil Tecca Expands Tracklist To 17 With “TEC (Bonus)”

Auto-crooner and rapper Lil Tecca came through with his first project in nearly two years with TEC. It followed up his two part series We Love You Tecca from 2021. While the Queens, New York product was not saying or doing anything starkly different compared to previous releases there were a good deal of tracks that stuck. Additionally, there were some notable features.

Tecca brought on Kodak Black for some killer melodies on “HVN ON EARTH.” The vocal chipmunk vocal chops that make up the hook were fantastic. Of course, how can you forget about 500lbs? One of his best songs ever, he busted some terrific flows that just stuck.

Well, to bring back some hype around the record, the 21-year-old is back with a bonus version. This comes nearly four months after TEC‘s initial release. Lil Tecca only brings one song into the fray, bringing the total to 17. “Down With Me” is more of a slow jam that sees him reflect on the stages of becoming a famous artist.
