Da Beatminerz Are Not Suffering From “Stifled Creativity” On Their First LP Two Decades Later

“We started working on this album in 2009… the focus was to stick to our core sound. We just wanted to bring back our traditional way of attempting a classic album. Everybody has their own type of hip-hop that they love. Well, this is ours”. Those were the words of Mr. Walt, one half of the producing tandem, Da Beatminerz, speaking about their album, Stifled Creativity, according to The Source.

Mr. Walt and DJ Devil Dee have been in the business for about 30 years at this point. So, the former’s comments about what type of rap they love and what they like to stick to are accurate. Across the 22-track escapade, you are going to hear what this duo has perfected up until this point. From stellar sample flips and disc scratching, Da Beatminerz are just further cementing their talents here. Even taking 20 years off in between albums cannot stifle their creativity. If you want to check out their insane boom-bap beats, as well as lyrical genius KRS-One, Ras Kass, and more, see the links below.

Your Old Droog’s Latest Album Is A “Movie” & It’s One Fans Will Want To Rewatch

Sometimes, not everyone can make their first, second, or even third album their most complete. To be honest, it is quite rare for anyone to do it, even the certified legends. That seems to be the case for Ukranian American spitter Your Old Droog, in his opinion anyway. The Brooklynite has been one of the more prolific voices in the East Coast underground and he prefers it that way. “I don’t really have interest in fame or the idea of celebrity, according to a feature from Variety. All of that hard work has seemingly culminated into Your Old Droog’s newest album, Movie.

“On the outside and on the inside, I feel like I mastered certain things, like certain recording techniques, writing techniques. I feel like I mastered ad libs in late 2022… in terms of how I record them, my process of selecting them and editing”, Droog mentioned. “I had a conversation before I worked on this album with El-P, where he was like, ‘Be okay with people missing you for a while. Just put everything into your 12 best songs.’ So, I internalized that before I was making the record, and just said, let me not do so much — let me do exactly what’s needed. I feel like I did”. We certainly feel that way, as Droog talks about all sorts of life experiences. This tape truly describes his life, aka his Movie.

Producer SAINT JAME$ Begins His Career With A Bang As He Drops “BY ANY MEAN$”

The East Coast, like any other corner of hip-hop, has a distinct sound. It is grimy, rugged, but sometimes smooth and easy going. Those are all of the styles you are going to get on BY ANY MEAN$, the debut album of producer SAINT JAME$. He is cut from the similar cloth that Griselda is from, and that is why you are getting artists of that familiar ilk all over this project. From Conway the Machine to Boldy James, and Rome Streetz to ElCamino, the gang is all here.

BY ANY MEAN$ is a tight listen, spanning just 10 tracks with a scant run time of just 28 minutes and change. For someone looking to get their name out there like SAINT JAME$ is, you would think making longer instrumentals would be the move. However, he still manages to be memorable. Many may not know, but this project was in the works for quite a long time. In fact, SAINT JAME$ explained his gratitude for everyone that was involved and thanked for them for their years’ worth of patience. “Shouts out to @coachbombay3000 for believing in me, this project, being patient and for the guidance and support”, JAMES said.

“Peace, Love and respect to all artists who graced the project. I am humbled and grateful that I had the opportunity to work with some of the dopest artists to EVER rap… A reminder to those who need to hear it, believe in your vision, trust the process and don’t let a setback make you give up. Make your dreams happen BY ANY MEAN$ possible!!!!”. Those words cannot be truer and we wish SAINT JAME$ all the success in the world moving forward.

James Fauntleroy & No ID (The 80s) Revive “The Pursuit” 13 Years Later

James Fauntleroy and legendary producer No ID are giving fans what they want this summer. They are combining their talents on an EP, but not in the way that you think. This is not a brand-new release by any means. In fact, this tape that is out now is about 13 years old. It is called The Pursuit, and it is a production of the duo’s group known as The 80s or The Cocaine 80s. If you have not heard of this collective before, let us give you a little history lesson for some background.

James and No ID are just two of the artists responsible for bringing this idea to fruition back in the early 2010s. Chicago rap genius Common, as well as Los Angeles-bred singer Jhené Aiko, joined along for the ride. This quartet is known for the smooth and stunning R&B cuts with an alternative flare. What you are seeing in front of you is the first of four EPs, as The Pursuit began the string of EPs from 2011 to 2013. The last of them was The Flower Of Life and since then, we have not received any new music from this talented act. Hopefully, with The 80s bringing The Pursuit to streaming this weekend, maybe they will revive the other subsequent EPs. You can check out the long-awaited fan-favorite tape with the links below and relive the magic that was created all those years ago.

G-Eazy Divulges On Why He Is “Freak Show” On 7th Studio Abum

Gerald Earl Gillum, popularly known as G-Eazy, has come through with Freak Show, ending a three-year album hiatus. The 35-year-old Oakland-based rapper and singer, like past projects, is bringing a mixture of genres to the table. You will hear pop-punk, pop rap, emo, some rock, and everything in between, which is pretty impressive given there are just 12 songs to be had. Leading up to this seventh studio effort, G-Eazy did share quite a bit of the tracklist before this weekend. To be exact, a third of the LP was released over the last three months.

It started with the fan-maligned “Femme Fatale”, a sex-positive and hedonistic anthem featuring Coi Leray and Kaliii. That would be followed up by “Lady Killers III”, continuing the series after the second dropped in March. Then, G-Eazy delivered his most personal track out of the crop with “Love You Forever”, which is about his deceased mother who passed back in 2021. Finally, “Anxiety”, which is the now the closing track to Freak Show, sees him wrestle with his inner voice. Overall, G-Eazy troubled but unapologetic about what it took to get to this point. In fact, he spoke with USA Today, according to People, about that very overarching message. “It’s an album about self-acceptance. It is honest. It’s revealing of how I got here, who I’ve been, the stories of the come-up and some of the hardships and some of the missteps and some of the flaws along the way”.

KAYTRANADA Produces Groovy & Sexy Dance Jams For Maeta’s “Endless Night” EP

The summer of 2023 was all about KAYTRAMINE. In 2024, the hottest months of the year beloing to Maetranada. That is the unofficial name of singer/producer duo Maeta and KAYTRANADA. The former is a Indianapolis, Indiana native and Roc Nation signee. KAYTRANADA is the world-renowned multi-genre instrumental genius who works with everyone. These two talents have a work history together, joining up for a couple of tracks over the last couple of years. However, Endless Night is the first time that Maeta is leaning on the Canadian for a full body of work. This is not an LP, rather a seven-track EP with zero features.

To be honest, that does not really bother us. When you have a beautiful voice like Maeta, and the colorful production of a KAYTRANADA, that is all you need really. The 24-year-old balladeer was very thrilled to drop Endless Night, according to her team. “I’m so excited for this project to be out. I just want everyone to have fun, dance and be free this summer!”. Well, they certainly will be as both are making it easy as ever to float away and loose themselves on the dancefloor. There is never a dull moment on this EP, even with the sultrier takes on dance. The presence of R&B is strong still and in a good way. Of course, fans just a got full listening experience from KAYTRANADA a couple of weeks ago with the highly-praised TIMELESS. But for Maeta, this project comes a year after her LP When I Hear Your Name, which featured Ty Dolla $ign, James Fauntleroy, Lucky Daye, and more.

Peso Pluma Teams Up With Cardi B, Quavo & More On New Album “EXODO”: Stream

Guadalajara, México’s own Peso Pluma has had one of the hottest streaks of any artist in the Hispanic and Latin American music sphere in recent years, momentum that he’s got no plans to slow down. Moreover, he just released his 24-track juggernaut of a star-studded album in ÉXODO, which is much like his last album GÉNESIS in this regard. However, this one boasts some more interesting crossover collaborations with the likes of Cardi B, Quavo, and Rich The Kid, who appears on the single “Gimme A Second.”

In addition, there are other Latine superstars like Arcángel, Anitta, Junior H, Natanael Cano, Oscar Maydon, Gabito Ballesteros, and many more on here. After all, the tracklist contains a diverse display of styles and also indicates that the “Igual Que Un Ángel” creative’s artistry will take him to further highs.

Kehlani Is In Their “Happy Place” On New LP “CRASH”

Kehlani has built up a lot of excitement surrounding her fourth studio LP and seventh overall project, CRASH. There are a couple of reasons for that, with one of them being the terrific lead-off tracks. You have the undeniable groove on “After Hours”, as well as the explosive yet sultry “Next 2 U”. In addition to the well-executed singles, Kehlani expressed how they were in a such a healthy place mentally during the creation of CRASH. “For once, I’m not attached to some story or some public thing or some trauma or some deep explanations. I have nothing but joyful things to say… I’m in such a happy place”, they told Zane Lowe.

You can tell that right from the opening track “GrooveTheory”, which starts out mellow and then transitions into a slower and more contemporary R&B sound. There was certainly a lot of care put into this body of work, with Kehlani showing lots of love to their producers. “Thank you to everyone who stayed up till morning, traveled to every city, everyone who took a passport stamp for me. Thank you to everyone who let me make 5 versions… to every creative, musically & visually who treated this baby like it was their own”. Speaking of the sounds on this record, you are getting a whole bunch of them. From country to amapiano, as well as singer/songwriter and synth pop, there is no point of stagnation. Kehlani was truly free throughout this entire creative process, and it has produced one of her best works to date.

Cory Gunz Brings Along A Plethora Of Guests For Short Project “Loosie Pack 3”

Cory Gunz has always possessed great flow patterns and clever one liners throughout his long and steady career. The East Coast spitter might not be your go-to for hits and bangers. But overall, the veteran is the perfect artist for the headphones. You can just close your eyes and lock into his lyrics and digest what he is putting down. Across his new mixtape, Loosie Pack 3, Cory Gunz is doing just that and doing it effectively as well.

As you could probably guess, this is a part of an ongoing series that The Bronx songwriter has. This now trilogy got its start just last year. The first of which dropped back in September and brought on the talents of Black Saun, Pax, Styles P, Whispers, and more. Then, just two months later, Cory Gunz would bring out Loosie Pack 2. The second seven-track offering had the likes of Nino Man, Snyp Life, Fuego Base, Whispers again, and RMK. As for Loosie Pack 3, Gunz includes probably the highest number of diverse guests. Here, you get Jim Jones, Jaewon, Mulaarie, Dashii, Large Amount, Chris Rivers, Whispers (yet again), and RMK. Since this is a mixtape and a set of Loosies, like the tape says, Cory is giving you a simple formula of solid rapping.

Fana Hues’ “Moth” Is Serene & Hypnotic From Front To Back

For most hip-hop fanatics, neo-soul singer/songwriter Fana Hues might not ring a bell. However, those who checked out Tyler, The Creator’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, you might know her from the two-parter, “SWEET / I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE”. If this is the amount of knowledge you have on the Pasadena, California artist, then we encourage you to check out her solo discography. Fana Hues possesses an incredibly soothing voice, as well as a great ear for instrumentals. Just like her vocal abilities, the sounds Fana Hues goes for on Moth are hypnotic and serene. They play perfectly alongside her topical focus and the delivery of said themes, making for a satisfying listening experience.

If you are wondering if the title of Moth is a possible acronym for anything, it actually is. According to an interview with Essence, Fana Hues explains that it translates to “Matters Of The Heart”. Also during her chat with the publication, the 28-year-old talks about what this project is all trying to convey. “This album is definitely me putting the mirror up to myself and seeing where I’m at, where I want to be and how to get there”, she says. In another sit-down, this time with Rated R&B, Fana also speaks on how it pertains to the actual insect while expanding on aforementioned journey. “Moths fly through darkness constantly searching for light even at the risk of harm. I’m always en route on a journey to find the reason for a feeling in its purest form, even if it hurts”. From its layered meaning to the songs overall, Fana has a great record on her hands.
