Foushee Pays Homage To A Loved One With “Pointy Heights”

Foushee is an incredibly fascinating talent that needs to continue to get more attention. The New Jersey native with roots in Jamaica pretty much combines her eclectic background into her music. You will never hear her not try something new whether it be on a single, project, or feature. On her latest record, Pointy Heights, Foushee is toying around with alternative in so many ways and that’s partially thanks to her varied production team. Steve Lacy is the biggest name here, and perhaps has the most influence on the direction of the sounds. However, there’s also BNYX, Jean Baptiste, Carter Lang, and more.

What’s also fun about this project is the connection that it has. Pointy Heights is a reference to her grandfather. “pointy heights is a mile & a half long area located right outside of old harbor jamaica founded by my grandfather pointy. they called him pointy bc he was pint sized 🙂 this album is dedicated to him, the fam & the community”. Leading up to the release, Foushee did share quite a bit of it’s brief 10-song 27-minute long tracklist. Four were dropped off from the end of July up until the 11th of this month. Those include “still around”, “war”, “100 bux”, and “feel like home” were all included in the roll out. Again, they all manage to sound drastically different from one another. Across it, you hear elements of doo-wop, alternative rock, and more. See why we and many others are co-signing Foushee’s new release with the links below.

Talib Kweli Teams Up With Producer J. Rawls For “The Confidence Of Knowing”

Talib Kweli is a legend in the hip-hop game thanks to his wide range of talents and ability to work with so many different artists. The Black Star and Reflection Eternal affiliate has been pretty active over the last two years in terms of singles and projects and this weekend he’s continuing that trend. Talib Kweli has just dropped off The Confidence Of Knowing, which is being advertised as album number 10.

However, he’s not releasing this 13-song effort alone, though. Columbus, Ohio underground producer J. Rawls is here too. Here, he’s tasked with laying down East Coast beats on every cut and there’s a nice mixture of sounds to be had. Of course, on top of that, Talib is bringing some food for thought and clever bars like these on one of the lead singles, “Native Sons”. “Bragging about material objects with people starving, bruh / And that’s why the phrase “eat the rich” is so popular / Please, these elitists can never defeat the populace“. There’s also some solid guests on the docket. IDK, Rass Kass, Blu, Planet Asia, and Jimetta Rose are a few of the multi-talented sidekicks. Overall, there’s a lot to like and Talib is showing that he’s still got more than enough juice for the 2020’s decade.

Babyface Ray Keeps It Real & Chill On “The Kid That Did”

Babyface Ray might not be a rapper that’s on everyone’s radar, but to us, he’s really making a nice statement with The Kid That Did. This is the Detroit, Michigan native’s latest project and it comes on the heels of 2023’s Summer’s Mine. In terms of singles, it was led by quite a few. The roll out began back in March with “Money On My Mind” and “Shy Kid”. Then, things would continue a couple of months later with a July two-pack of “Ghetto Boyz” and “Rubberband Man”.

Finally, Babyface Ray would wrap things up with “Count Money” and then Wavy Navy University on Monday. Overall, we feel that the laid-back veteran is sounding perhaps better than he ever has. Throughout the 20 songs here, he’s dropping some simple yet effective lyrical gems, keeping things real with the listener. Furthermore, the production is excellent and that helps when you have stars like Boi-1da, DJ ESCO, and Pooh Beatz in the fold. It’s wavy and crisp and it also feels kind of fresh while also paying some respects to the sounds that have been created in the blue-collar city. There’s a lot of standout tracks, with some our favorites being the Veeze-assisted “Wavy Navy University” and “Watching My Page”.

Terrace Martin Drops “Nintindo Soul,” His Second Album Of 2024

Terrace Martin is best known for his work on Kendrick Lamar’s last few albums, most notably 2015’s To Pimp A Butterfly, but he is also a talented solo artist in his own right. The jazz-fusion extraordinaire returns with Nintindo Soul, his second album of 2024. The album features several singers and rappers, including Arin Ray, Cautious Clay, Buddy, and JasonMartin (formerly known as Problem) to name a few. Martin’s Dinner Party bandmate 9th Wonder makes an appearance as well on the track “Forever,” which was released as a single.

Terrace Martin’s latest effort is the follow-up to Grounded, his previous full-length release, as well as the three EPs he’s delivered in 2024. It sounds similar to the Dinner Party releases (Dinner Party is the supergroup composed of Martin, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, and the aforementioned 9th Wonder). This album favors a more neo-soul sound than jazz. It also sounds like the background music at a small get-together, and much of Martin’s music as a solo artist has a similar sound. Terrace Martin’s music has a generally pleasant aesthetic, and this album is no different. It is easy to listen to. Moreover, it is even easier to like. If you’re a fan of neo-soul, jazz, R&B, or all three, you are sure to enjoy his latest release. If you do like this one, check out his other releases this year. Stream Nintindo Soul below.

Jay Worthy & MadeInTYO Release First Joint Album, “Time After Time”

Rapper Jay Worthy and singer MadeInTYO came together to release a new joint album. Time After Time is their first collaborative effort. It comes as Jay Worthy’s third album of 2024, and MadeInTYO’s second. The album is in line with the music Worthy typically makes, with sparse, vibe-heavy production. For those who are only familiar with MadeInTYO for his viral track “Uber Everywhere,” it may be a surprise to hear him rap over production like this. However, he has embraced the sound in recent years and has found a pocket that works for him. The two have some real chemistry on this album, and keep it just brief enough for fans to want to hear another release from the two in the future.

As far as the content of the album is concerned, Jay Worthy and MadeinTYO find themselves waxing poetic about street life, boasting about their success, and showing appreciation for their lives. The album works in contrast to Worthy’s previous release Magic Hour, an out-and-out G-Funk album. However, it is not dissimilar to other music in his discography, particularly his releases with Sean House as part of LNDN DRGS. MadeInTYO’s TYO 808, an album he produced himself and released earlier this year, leaned closer to the sound of their joint release. A spacy, woozy, almost cloud rap-like approach. Worthy is a prolific artist, and this is the latest in what has been a highly successful year for the Canadian rapper. If you listen to this and want to hear more MadeinTYO production, we’d recommend Ransom’s SMOKE & MIRRORS EP. Stream this new release now.

Eminem Returns With “The Death Of Slim Shady (Expanded Mourner’s Edition)”

Eminem couldn’t stay away. The rapper has made a habit of dropping deluxe versions of his albums after the dust has settled on the initial release. He basically dropped a whole other album when he put out the “Side B” collection for Music to Be Murdered By. The Expanded Mourner’s Edition of The Death of Slim Shady is a bit more streamlined, though. There are only five more tracks, and one of them is a skit with Steve Berman. Not much to say on the skit front. You know what Berman sounds like.

The rest of the songs on the Expanded Mourner’s Edition are fun. It’s fantastic to hear Eminem rap with Westside Boogie and Gun on “Fuel,” especially given the song’s propulsive beat. There’s a lot going on, but fans of dense bars are going to get their money’s worth. “Like My Sh*t” is a cool collaboration with FIFTEENAFTER, especially given how different the sounds of both artists are on paper. It doesn’t totally mesh together, but it’s still listenable. Much better is the 2 Chainz song “Kyrie & Luka.” Eminem and 2 Chainz may seem like another odd pairing, but they clearly have fun feeding off each other’s energy. We’d go as far as to call it the standout bonus track here.

Kenny Mason Shows Surprising Versatility On “4daPUPS” EP

There hasn’t been a term coined for the kind of rapper Kenny Mason is. He occupies the same space as breakout stars like JID and Isaiah Rashad, which is to say, lyrical but endlessly melodic. There’s a smooth element to Mason’s music that sets him apart from most emcees his age. It was the case with his catchy 2020 single, “Chevron,” and it proves to be the case with the 4daPUPS EP. Mason decided to drop this brief three song project on Soundcloud, so it will unfortunately fly under the radar of most fans. That said, it’s well worth your time.

The opening track, “Scary Sh*t,” is classic Kenny Mason. The beat is spooky and soulful, and the vocal loop is destined to get stuck in your head. “Scary Sh*t” has an infectious tempo, and the rapper keeps pace with a flow that feels both urgent and incredibly at ease. It’s a great table setter for the reflective songs that follow. “Proud” slows things down, and gives Kenny Mason’s lyrics a chance to take center stage. The guitar loop gets a little ponderous, but it’s still solid. The final track, “Leap Straight Off,” is going to be a surprise for most. Mason decides to go alternative with it, and deliver an acoustic ballad right out of the Nirvana playbook. It’s jarring, but it showcases how versatile the rapper can really be.

ShittyBoyz Continue To Drop Eccentric Bars On “3 Man Weave” Album

ShittyBoyz are not for everyone. The name kind of says it all. Some listeners are going to put off, some are going to fully buy into the absurdity of the trio and love the music. One thing’s for certain, the trio is never going to change. 3 Man Weave is more of the same wavy, eccentric hip hop that ShittyBoyz have built their name on. It’s a little long, and can be repetitive, but the standout cuts are so catchy that they will stick in their head whether you want them to or not. This is evident from the hard-hitting opener, “07 LeBron.”

The artwork and the title of the opener may lead you to think that 3 Man Weave is some focused concept album about the basketball court. It’s not. ShittyBoyz quickly stray from this theme, and proceed to delve into any topic they please. It mostly works. “Polynesian” has a chilled out beat that brings out the best in terms of the trio’s flows. “Big Dawgs” takes on more of a West Coast sound, with an aggressive Tommy G feature to boot. “Brand New” and “Live from the Lab” are the clear standouts here, though. They use lush, 80s samples as the foundation for aggressive ShittyBoyz bars, and the combination never fails. It’d be nice to hear the trio on a whole project with that production. As it stands, though, 3 Man Weave is an entertaining showcase for ShittyBoyz to refine their formula.

SleazyWorld Emotionally Shares His Debut LP “More Than A Shooter”

SleazyWorld Go, Grand Rapids, Michigan rapper, is known for his “Sleazy Flow” records. The original and remix with Lil Baby have over 300 million streams combined. However, he is looking to give fans more outside of some streaming darlings. He isn’t necessarily a lyrical MC, but the 26-year-old is divulging in what has made him become the artist and person is today on his own terms. That tasked is being carried out on SleazyWorld Go’s debut album, More Than A Shooter. Even though, he’s now six projects deep, this is being billed as the inaugural studio effort.

We can see why it’s taken him four years to get to this point, though, thanks to a heart-wrenching IG post. A few weeks prior to releasing it, Sleazy revealed that he was overcome with emotion for the first time in a long time putting this together. “I ain’t shed no tear since I was a kid but I cried making this album 🥲.. not because I was sad but because I realized how far I came, what I went through to get here & how much I lost after it all💔”, he began.

“It’s bitter sweet cause I lost love ones I never thought I would lose due to this lifestyle and what came with this street s***, success, money & fame😔😔. I hope my story can help any youngin thats where I was once in my life. In the hood.. with no hope but had a dream.. a dream to be more than what they seen growing up… Keep pushing, keep striving, keep believing in yo self”.
