Lauren London says she’s still dealing with the death of her late partner, Nipsey Hussle, who was shot and killed outside of his store, Marathon Clothing, in 2019. She reflected on his tragic passing during an interview with Radhi Devlukia on the A Really Good Cry podcast, earlier this week.
“I still feel like a mess, that’s the thing,” she admitted, as caught by Billboard, “I guess I have to ask my friends how far I’ve come because I still genuinely feel like I have not arrived anywhere… I feel like I’m really heavy a lot, but again, I have to counter that to just, like, the grace of God, because if it was up to me, I would be sliding in here on my stomach, but I also don’t want to take away from the work that I’ve done from then until now. So, I don’t wanna do that, ’cause I’m good at doing that.” She added that her kids and her community have been an immense help. “God just placed people in my life that can kinda just usher me in and teach me and guide me. I always say the prayer of strangers held me up,” she said.

Together, London and Hussle shared one son and had children from previous relationships. Speaking about their grieving process with Devlukia, London explained that she’s been encouraging the family to express their emotions. “It’s so different with both of them, because one’s 14, the other one’s 7, so you know. I’m always, like, a container for whatever emotion they have,” she said on the show, “I’m just like, ‘It’s OK to feel all these things, you know? I’m holding it for you, I feel you, I understand, I hear you.’ But also, playing his music, I’m always telling them to journal as well, like, write him a letter, tell him how you feel.”

During their conversation, she recalled how she met the late legend Nipsey Hussle, with whom she would form a beautiful relationship with before his tragic loss. Even though this love story has a devastating ending, what has endured since then is a deep feeling of love, dedication, and constance that this recollection embodies.
“I do remember how we met,” Lauren London said of Nipsey Hussle. “I was on a set. At the time, he had dropped this Crenshaw mixtape that all the ladies on set were listening to. They were all from L.A., we were in L.A. on this shooting. I was like, ‘It would be really cool if I, like, got them his mixtape and all like, you know, the Crenshaw stuff.’ And so I had reached out to a friend of mine, Danny, like, ‘Hey, do you know Nip? Could you reach out and see if I can get a discount on some of this stuff? ‘Cause I’m kind of buying in bulk.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah.’
“So Nip never reached out,” Lauren London continued. “His manager then reached out to my friend. I didn’t get the discount, either. So I was like, oh, okay! *laughs* I guess he’s not trying to give me it, it’s fine. And so then, I bought the stuff, gave the girls their rap gifts. I end up following him on… I don’t even remember what social media it was. See, my memory is so wack. Maybe it was Twitter? Or… At the time, it was Twitter. I don’t know, I don’t remember. Instagram, maybe. So I follow him and he DM’d me, like, ‘Hey, thank you.’ Yeah, he was in my DMs. ‘Thanks for the support, appreciate you, send me your sizes so I can send you a personal box.’
“Then he gave me his number,” she concluded concerning Nipsey Hussle. “So then I text him, because I was like, I don’t do DMs. Yeah, I thought he was fine. First of all, me following him, I was like… He took the bait. *laughs* No, yes, I always thought he was very attractive. I actually had friends that knew him that were like, ‘I think you guys would get along!” Years before that. But, you know, I was just on my, like, single mom stuff.”
Nipsey Hussle was known for his work ethic and his integrity. He was arguably more known for these aspects than his music, despite rising to fame as a rapper. Nipsey’s death in 2019 was tragic on many levels, but perhaps the most tragic was the fact that his only son would grow up without a father. Kross Ermias Asghedom turned eight years old on August 31. His mom, Lauren London, celebrated by posting a rare photo of him on Instagram. Fans were immediately struck by how much Kross looked like his late father.
It’s easy to see why. Kross looks like the spitting image of Nipsey Hussle, right down to the features and hairstyle. London posted the photo alongside a touching poem. “My little wise one,” she wrote. “You are the hope and promise. God shines through you. Happy 8th Birthday to my baby.” The comment section was flooded with support for the family, and glowing comparisons between Kross and his father. “Lil Nip,” one user wrote. “Watch what his father do through him,” another write. “His time is coming and we will see Kross rise high.”
Nipsey Hussle talked about the joys of fatherhood several times during his lifetime. The rapper made a point of being a positive role model and consistent force in Kross’ life. “I think the definition of fatherhood is consistency,” he asserted. He also noted that a father needs to be thorough, and make sure that he’s laying the groundwork for his family to strive. He said something similar during a sit down with Steph Curry. “Every day when I take [my daughter] to school, we have a little convo that we have before she gets out of the car,” Nipsey told the NBA superstar. “[It goes] like ‘what is integrity?’ ‘Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.’”
This mindset is something that has lived on beyond Nipsey himself. In 2023, Kelly Rowland cited Nipsey Hussle’s words when discussing the way she raises her own sons. “I wanted my boys to have integrity and I got that from Nipsey Hussle,” Rowland told Parents Magazine. “I want them to be the kind of men who are proud of themselves. Late artist Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Blacc Sam, recently submitted an accounting report, unveiling his estate’s assets. The report revealed that Nipsey’s two kids, Emani and Kross, are his only beneficiaries. According to him, the estate has a total of $11 million. Nearly $7 million of that is housed in various bank accounts, while the other $4 million lies in interest of various companies, a 2012 Chevy Suburban, and more.
Blacc Sam also revealed that Emani and Kross will split the assets 50/50. Kross’ mother, Lauren London, will receive a share of the assets on his behalf, making her part-owner of Nipsey’s various businesses. The report comes amid his estate’s ongoing legal battle with Emani’s mother, Tanisha Foster. Foster has been pushing to gain more rights over their daughter following the late artist’s family being granted physical custody.

I take her to school, and I continue to do the things a parent would do with their child. I am very unhappy that the guardians will not take my calls. They have blocked me on their cell phones. I have to go through a third party or Emani to communicate with the guardians.” During a court hearing in September, she was granted more visitation rights with Emani.

However, Patty has to buy the farmland. Later, in the movie, she has to sell it back to Ellie.

In 2013, Lauren starred in this romantic comedy movie as Sheree. Baggage Claim is one of those predictable romantic comedies where a girl falls in love with a guy she meets in an unexpected way.
