Bow Wow Continues To Call New Music “Trash”

Bow Wow recently shared his thoughts on the latest music releases, expressing his candid opinions about the industry’s current musical landscape. According to the renowned rapper and actor, the new music in today’s landscape leaves much to be desired, to put it mildly. “Al of this sh*t trash,” Bow Wow began. One person asked on the livestream, “How do you think its so easy for new artists to get famous?” Bow Wow responded, “All they have to do is get out of their bed and get on their laptop. It’s easy because of the internet, they utilize the internet. Sh*t takes work” … “In a way you still have to respect what they’re doing, the music might be subpar, but you still have to respect it.”

In his unfiltered commentary, Bow Wow doesn’t mince words when characterizing the state of modern day music. He describes it as “trash,” and has said this a few times before. As HNHH previously reported, he’s said that labels need to focus more on artist development. His willingness to be straightforward and critical about the current music scene can be seen as a reflection of his commitment to the art form and his dedication to upholding the standards he holds dear. As a veteran in the music industry, Bow Wow feels as though he can also be a speculator on how it’s transformed over the years. His perspective is valuable, not only because of his extensive experience but also because it showcases the passion and discernment that musicians bring to their craft.

While some might perceive his comments as controversial, it is essential to consider that opinions on music are highly subjective. What one person finds appealing, another may find “trash.” Bow Wow’s comments serve as a reminder of the ever-shifting nature of the music world. While some listeners may agree with Bow Wow’s assessment, others may strongly disagree. On X just last week, Bow Wow offered more details into his reasoning for why he feels like artists are not making great music anymore. “They cant talk. I don’t understand wtf they saying,” he said. “Be dry as hell in interviews. Y’all know I take the stage serious! I don’t even wanna get on they stage presence. Rapping over vocals shit is sloppy out here man. We gotta clean this s**t up. Get better or get tf out the way.”

Fans even agreed with sentiments such as “it’s not fun to see artists drop anymore,” one person said. Another commented, “Labels don’t believe in rollouts or building the anticipation like they used to.” “That’s over with now .. these labels are openly telling artist to already come to them established and popping and already platinum.” What are your thoughts? Let us know on HNHH!

Megan Thee Stallion Settles 1501 Entertainment Lawsuit After Years Of Battling Label

After over three years of litigation, Megan Thee Stallion finally reached a private settlement in her case against her former record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. Moreover, she sued the company for an “unconscionable” record deal, alleging that they blocked new releases and failed to support her as they were contractually obligated to. Legal representatives for 1501 announced on Thursday (October 19) that they finally came to a compromise with the Houston rapper. According to these attorneys, they “mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences” and will “amicably part ways.” No matter how you slice it, this is a long-awaited and necessary resolution to this conflict.

Furthermore, 1501 Certified Entertainment elaborated a bit further on their feelings about this settlement with her. “Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses,” they stated. In addition, the statement included a remark from label president Carl Crawford. “[We] wish Megan the very best in her life and career,” he expressed. However, as of writing this article, it’s still unknown what specific considerations went into Megan Thee Stallion’s settlement, including whether there was any monetary exchange or other legal or contractual stipulations.

Megan Thee Stallion At The 2023 MTV VMAs

For those unaware, the “Bongos” MC accused 1501 Certified Entertainment of roping her into an imbalanced record deal in 1028 as a young artist. Apparently, this was far from the industry standard when it comes to artist freedom and financial considerations. Megan Thee Stallion maintains that a Roc Nation management deal in 2019 opened her eyes to the “cr*zy” nature of the agreement thanks to the assistance of “real lawyers.” Since then, multiple other complaints emerged, such as 1501 not counting projects as albums (which affects the terms of her deal) and that the label mishandled royalties and charged excessive amounts for marketing and promotion.

Meanwhile, even though a judge ruled in December that this required a jury trial for resolution, it looks like that’s no longer the case. The 28-year-old artist even hinted at this settlement during a recent Instagram Live session. “I have no label right now,” she expressed. Megan Thee Stallion Reveals That She Isn’t Interested In Signing To A Label

Megan Thee Stallion is still dealing with the fallout from a high profile legal battle with her former 1501 label. In particular, she’s accused label head Carl Crawford of making decisions in an attempt to deliberately sabotage her career and withholding money that she was owed. Clearly, that’s affected Megan’s approach to the music industry. Now that she’s returned to releasing new music she’s elaborating on her approach to labels going forward.

Megan took to her Instagram live to share updates with fans and that included an explanation of how her new music is being handled. “This part of my album is very much so funded by Megan because we’re trying to get off… Y’all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now,” she begins. Megan has only been a part of two new singles this year. The first was an appearance on Cardi B’s “Bongos” which was released through Cardi’s label Atlantic. Her other single is from the soundtrack for D*cks: The Musical, an upcoming film she’s acting in. That song was released through production studio A24. Check out the clip from her Instagram live below.

Megan Thee Stallion Going Without A Label

She went on to explain where the funds for her new music are coming from. “And we’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me. Motherf*cking Hot Girl Productions! The next sh*t y’all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain and Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We are in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one.”

Overnight, 1501 Entertainment hit back at Megan. She’s requesting in court that the labels money be handled by a third party in the short term until their legal bindings are untangled. 1501 is describing the move as  “bad faith and solely for harassment.” What do you think of Megan releasing her new music independently? Let us know in the comment section below.

Charleston White Claims He Maced Sauce Walka & His Label Crew

Charleston White is building up quite the combative reputation these days, although he’s always been well-known for his antics. Moreover, this discussion largely centers around his actions at the Influencer Boxing Championship, during which he attacked various people. One of these incidents got a lot of attention online because the media personality maced his opponent following an altercation. Now, it seems like he’s clarifying that he actually has a lot of skills in this department and previous experience. For better or worse, it’s exacerbated this narrative and only gives more context to his aggression and behavior.

Furthermore, Charleston White recently hopped on social media and claimed that he once maced fellow Texas native Sauce Walka. Not only that, but he also claimed to have maced pretty much the entire crew that comprises Walka’s label, The Sauce Factory. “I’m going mace-cr*zy,” White said at the beginning of his bizarre online rant making these allegations. In addition, he boasted about “checking every rapper that got in [his] face” with no security. Whether it’s advisable or not, it’s doubtful that he’ll bring the heat down.

Charleston White Alleges That He Maced Sauce Walka & TSF

After news of his macing antics went viral, the controversial figure addressed it on social media. “N***a, I don’t do no motherf***ing bar fight,” Charleston White exclaimed. “N***a, I don’t want no motherf***ing bar fight. I am an amateur professional boxer. You don’t put your motherf***ing hands on me outside no motherf***ing boxing ring. I’m a sanctioned fighter, n***a. I’m a sanctioned fighter and you trying to fight unsanctioned. N***a didn’t know that I got them motherf***ing mace boxing gloves. He lucky I don’t press charges. That’s assault, n***a. What he want me to do, press charges? Nah, n***a, you just keep them hands off of me until we get in the ring.”

Meanwhile, this surely brought a lot of attention and extra hype to these boxing matches. Whether it’s the best way to promote series like these remains to be seen, but there could be more altercations in the future. Hopefully they aren’t as legitimately dangerous and White can focus on his real boxing skills. On that note, keep checking in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Charleston White.

Irv Gotti Says JAY-Z Carried Roc-A-Fella

Irv Gotti says that JAY-Z didn’t need any help with the success of Roc-A-Fella and that Dame Dash was just “along for the ride.” He spoke about the iconic record label during a recent appearance on the Drink Champs podcast.

“I don’t think Jay likes Dame,” Irv Gotti said during the interview. “Did I say something that people don’t know already?” From there, he added: “Jay didn’t need nobody. [Dame Dash] started Roc-A-Fella with Jay and Biggs, so he should get credited. I’m saying the making of the records, I don’t know what you want me to say. Jay didn’t need nobody. Jay was picking the beats, Jay was rapping over the beats, Jay was making things. It was all Hov. Dame was along for the ride. It was a great ride.”

The topic of JAY-Z and Dame Dash arose while discussing the Book of Hov exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library. N.O.R.E. referenced rumores that Dame Dash’s name was allegedly removed from the event. “Our goal, with The Book of Hov tribute exhibition, is to provide a behind-the-scenes look at a Hall of Fame songwriter and performer, successful business person, and a consequential philanthropist who has never forgotten the lessons he learned on the road to success,” a statement on the exhibition’s website reads. “And the borough where his journey began.” The exhibit will run through October of this year.

Irv Gotti Praises JAY-Z

JAY-Z and Dame Dash’s relationship has had rocky moments several times over the years. In 2021, JAY-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records sued Dame Dash over an attempt to sell Reasonable Doubt, as an NFT. Elsewhere in his appearance on Drink Champs, Gotti discussed working with Nas, the YSL case, and much more. Check out the interview above.

Lil Baby Signs Rylo Rodriguez To New Label, Glass Window Entertainment

Lil Baby has signed Rylo Rodriguez through his new label, Glass Window Entertainment, in partnership with Capitol Music Group and Motown Records. Rodriguez previously inked a deal with Baby’s record label, 4 Pockets Full (4PF), and Virgin Music in February 2020. Baby’s label now goes by Glass Window Entertainment.

DJ Akademiks initially broke the news of Rodriguez’s signing by sharing a video of Baby signing a contract and handing it off to Rylo Rodriguez. “I’m overly excited for Rylo and for his fans and the world to really get to see him on a larger platform,” Lil Baby added. “It’s been a long time coming with Rylo and even longer to go! We got work to do and money to get! Thank you to Motown/Capitol Music Group and Universal Music Group for trusting my process and I’m looking forward to a wonderful partnership!”

Baby previously explained why he’s confident in Rodriguez’s future success during an interview with XXL in 2021. He said of the artist: “One thing about Rylo, he reminds me so much of me. He doesn’t call me for anything—studio time, beats—he doesn’t call me for anything and he turns in the work and the work is always proper. So, anytime you have somebody who can do that on they own and handle they own business, you’re already like, 70 percent winning. Once they deliver the rest of the music on time, it’s just like, perfect. I can definitely see him up next. Only thing he gotta do is keep his formula and just keep putting out music and he got it.” Rodriguez signing with Glass Window Entertainment comes following the release of his latest project, Been One.

Boosie Badazz Slams Empire Records For Not Paying Him For Yung Bleu

Boosie Badazz slammed Empire Records on Instagram Live, Saturday, accusing the label of failing to pay him for signing his artist Yung Bleu. Boosie has a distribution deal with Empire Records.

“You wouldn’t play with me like this, bro,” Boosie began, before demanding a meeting. “Pay me my fuckin’ money, bro. Y’all forged my fuckin’ signature, bro. Now you and all parties involved will receive paperwork. If not Monday, then this Tuesday, it’s just this, okay? Now you all hit back. Now. You wanna hit back now? What up, bro?” Check out the full clip below.

It’s far from the first time Boosie has voiced his frustration with Empire. He previously threatened to take them to court following Bleu’s 2019 departure from Boosie’s Vandross Music Group. He’s clarified that he has no issue with Bleu himself in the situation.

Bleu addressed the contractual dispute during an interview with HipHopDX in 2020. “I came to Boosie and told him I still wanted to rock with the brand but not signed to Columbia no more,” he explained at the time. “I just wanted to rock independently, without a major label and Boosie was cool with it. He just wanted me to give him his profit and participation on the albums that I had left with him and I did.”

Boosie Fires Back At Empire

Bleu continued: “I was going to do that either way, whether we had a contract or not, because I had albums still left with him and he ain’t have to let me go. He ain’t have to let me go free and go sign a deal, you feel me? But he did. I respect the man and we got a different type of relationship. I’m still Bad Azz, though. I’m Bad Azz for life.”

Erica Banks Claims 1501 Owes Her Money In New Snippet

Erica Banks is the next in a long line of artists to take issue with her label. A new unreleased snippet of her music emerged where she called out the label. “And they owe me some money, they greedy,” the song’s lyrics read. She followed up the snippet by saying that she is no longer with the record label. Each of her 3 most recent projects were released on 1501 Certified including her breakout 2020 mixtape Erica Banks. Her debut studio album 2022’s Diary Of The Flow Queen was also released on the label, but it could be her last.

In the comments under the post, many pointed out Megan Thee Stallion’s similar issues with 1501 certified. “Meg tried to tell it but she was so pressed to be the new head female of that label she ignored it..well a lesson learned,” one comment read. “Megan Pete baby add this to your court docket and y’all team up to take his a*s straight to the bank because everybody need to see this label for what it really is and you can tell they have absolutely no respect for women!!” another comment says.

Erica Banks Takes Shots At Her Label

Erica Banks recently received some praise from high places when Ice Spice gave her her flowers. In response to the praise Banks’ called Ice Spice “everything.” The interaction started when it was announced that Banks’ would be joining Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta.

The biggest story of the year so far for Erica Banks has been her ongoing beef with recent XXL freshman Finesse2Tymes. After the pair had a short-lived relationship they started a beef. The conflict saw the pair exchanging increasingly NSFW shots back and forth publicly. While the beef ultimately didn’t lead to anything particularly dramatic Banks seems to have had no problem moving on. She was recently on Twitter flirting with fellow rapper Sukihana. What do you think of Erica Banks calling out her label? Let us know in the comment section below.

Conway The Machine Confirms Drumwork Album Release Date

Conway The Machine is one of the most prolific artists in rap music right now. After already being involved in numerous musical projects so far this year he just announced the release date for another. His label, Drumwork, is about to release a new compilation album showcasing their various talents. The album is a similar premise to those from numerous other artist-led labels. Dreamville, YSL, G.O.O.D. Music and many others have made similar compilations in the past. Drumwork’s project is officially scheduled for release on July 7th.

Conway The Machine’s Instagram post served as both an announcement and a preview. The new project includes a documentary series on the label, which fans got a taste of. In the video he posted various artists explain how the label initially came to be and how they all turned hard times into great music. The first single from the forthcoming project dropped earlier this month. “Elephant Man” saw Conway teaming up with Goosebytheway, SK Da King, Heem B$F, and Rome Streetz for a banger posse cut.

Conway The Machine Stays Busy

Conway The Machine has already release two full albums in just the first half of 2023 alone. Back in March he dropped the album Pain Provided Profit. The project was a short outing that saw Conway teaming up with frequent-collaborator Jae Skeese. He followed it up with a more fleshed out new solo album in May. WON’T HE DO IT featured Benny The Butcher, Westside Gunn, Juicy J, and many of the Drumwork artists expected to appear on the upcoming album.

Conway The Machine recently amazed both his fans and his fellow rappers. A video posted to Instagram saw the rapper heading to the studio directly after being released from the hospital. Fans couldn’t believe that Conway could have leg surgery and then turn around and get back to work so quickly. It’s not surprising he’s been releasing a lot of music given his dedication to keeping busy and recording. What do you think of the forthcoming Drumwork label album?
